Currently have the droid and not overly impressed. To be hones, aside from Google Nav, I'm already pretty bored with it. Seems like most people that opted for the Eris love it, whereas most Droid owners are mostly complaining.
Still in my 30 days with Verizon and am considering swapping out for the Eris, but not sure if it would be a step backward from a hardware perspective. I love the fact that it is HTC based and therefore the options of custom ROM's, etc. when made available is great. However, I'm somewhat skeptical about the seemingly dated hardware it is running on.
Any Eris owners that have some experience using both that can post why they chose the Eris? Is Sense UI that big of a deal?
Thanks in advance...
In my opinion the eris is a great phone so far. My buddy who is a iPhone user played with it today and he was very impressed by it. I do think the sence UI makes a world of difference. I have not used the moto droid yet, but if you not happy than I would think about switching. Goodluck
I love my eris, I only have 1 complant about it. The damn preinstalled apps that htc puts on there. I really feel that the inability to uninstall those apps go against the spirit of android and its open source roots
I would say that sense and all the other HTC improvements such as multitouch web browser are what the eris have going for it. The droid's processor would really be the only thing that I would like in my hero or your eris. The keyboard on that phone was horrible. I tried it out for a day and couldn't get to liking that hardware keyboard at all and software is worse than HTC. So it's interface or processor.
why are so many of these threads poping up?
Do you want us to convince you into getting the Eris?
Try to do your own research, go to a Verizion store and mess with the Eris or check sites like droiddog.com where they go through every last detail about the damn thing.

Whats so fancy about droidx? Friends talk it up over evo but still have not seen or tried their phone..

Meh...the difference is no custom ROM's or bootloader access on the Droid X.
~Jasecloud4
Nothing. Evo takes DroidX by pure usability alone.

So what u are saying is what you bought is all you get unlike evo? I like the fact you can root and get custom roms for evo.. it does beat our phone in video quality though.. Stopped at verizon after posted this and they are out so cant test for myself.. Went to youtube and they had a good benchtest for evo droidx and nexus 1.. Thanks for the response..
sent from my Evo
Yeah...the Droid X has this nifty feature called an EFUSE that automatically "bricks" the phone once it detects modification (to put it simply). Go over to the Droid X forum and notice how they don't have any custom ROM's listed.
The EVO has new ROM's and updates being posted every day.
~Jasecloud4
I dont know what I would be doing without this forum and everyone on here... Def not getting droidx now.. Thanks.. Im just glad when I got my tp2 I found this site.. thanks again for responses

Look up on youtube on the benchtest. I did droid x for search.. Im not sure if he uses 2.1 or what for bench for the evo but gets a 419 and but ran test on my froyo and got 1166 on quadrant? To me thats a big difference since he is trying to compare 3 devices.. Im stock 2.2 so how did the evo get suck low number.. Also I got in double digits on the graphic test on it and on the video I dont think it even got past 9fps? Any ideas or just trying to make droidx better?
sent from my Evo
Droid X came out before public availability of FroYo on the Evo so that's why the scores are low...when the Droid X gets froyo it'll outperform the Evo again.
Also its already been publicly stated by motorola that the efuse technology in the X doesn't brick the phone just prevents it from booting until a released software build is reinstalled.

My girlfriend just picked up the Droid X. Hardware-wise, I think it feels much nicer than the Evo. It feels a lot lighter and looks thinner because of the way it's shaped.
I'd still keep my custom ROMs though...
The evo needs root and custom roms IMO because its performance out of the box was terrible.
Droid X less so. However, digitally signed boot loader means I wouldn't touch it regardless.
Droid is nice phone but its antiquated already.... Are we forgetting that small tiny little fact that we have a front facing camera and WIMAX???? It might not be the best 4g signal but it still ahead of the game.. All the Droid X people will have to upgrade hardware once VZ goes LTE.. We will just need to updated WIMAX RADIO...lol

I forgot the only difference between WiMax and LTE is the band frequency which means we could enjoy all that 20>mb/s down goodness someday .
I tried the droid x at a local verizon a week or two ago; didn't impress me at all. Aesthetically, it looked like a kirf. Software wise, it was pretty ugly. I guess that may have been due to the store employee's setup, but it had this awkward green theme with the red eye that looked pretty nasty. Motoblur itself didn't really stand above AOSP imo; it was just kinda "there". Then again, the phone could be "alot" nicer with launcher pro and beautiful widgets.
But what wins it for me is , as xavier said, is the fact that the X is already outdated. Even though our phone might not be ''as" fast (do quadrant and linnpack scores absolutely translate to a better phone?), at least we have some features that will allow us to keep up with the phones released until it's time for our upgrade. I'd sacrifice the performance gain over long-term usability+peace of mind+convenience any time.

Thanks for these posts. I had heard that Sprint was probably going to be entering the LTE market and was wondering if the Evo would be able to take advantage of that technology.

LTE is not gsm. LTE is LTE. They are different. LTE can work on phones that have gsm or cdma radios.
EDIT: To further clarify things...GSM is only compatible with LTE technologies while CDMA is compatible with LTE and WIMAX

did you guys see the benchmark on linpack on the driod 2 runniing froyo.. scored like a 12 or something
sent from my satan fone
Ugh. The Droid X is sooooooooooooooo ugly. And soooooo choppy with motoblur.
Also, don't put any stock in quadrant. The I/O portion of that benchmark is so flawed. Cyanogen was able to score 3000+ on it by exploiting the very same aspect of quadrant that gives the Droid X a high score. Yes, the X does better in 3D graphics, but that doesn't make up for everything else that's wrong with it.
I'd pick the EVO any day over the X.
the physical buttons are retarded.
Should I go with Incredible? I have an upgrade due in November and don't really know what to choose. The Droid X has that super awesome big screen, outdated GPU but 2 or 3 roms only. The Fascinated has a beautiful screen and awesome hardware, but no Froyo. The Droid Incredible has both outdated CPU and GPU, but awesome roms, which are TOO awesome . I don't what to do! Should I wait for the new Incredible HD which will probably have awesome roms due to similarities to the EVO or some other mysterious phone? Switching carriers is not an option.
Sent from Eris with Froyo
I would suggest going with the Incredible.
It is getting a lot of attention from developers so there is a growing list of ROMs, themes, mods, etc.
Also there is a Seidio 3500mah battery available, and pairing this phone with that battery is an unstoppable beast. Instead of battery life in the "hours" you can expect "days"
The screen is awesome, size is perfect even with 3500, and options are unlimited.
IMO, right now it is the best device on the market. Maybe not the most specced out package, but the overall combined package makes this a great phone.
Go for it
Well u know the answers u will get having ask this in the Droid incredible section. I have had the DInc, X, D2, and I now own a fascinate. and I will be keeping the fascinate until we get some LTE phones. The fascinate has far better screen and hardware. The CPU/GPU is far better than u will find in the x, and way better than u will find in the incredible. But I will say HTC makes software that is unbeatable out of the box. Up to u. Your call. Having almost of those phones u see what I have stuck with
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I suggest you get the Fascinate. In my opinion, it goes in this order: Fascinate, Incredible, Droid X. The hardware on the Fascinate is the best you will find, and unlike the Droid X, it isn't locked down, so you can mod it however you want. I'm also pretty sure there are Froyo roms for the Fascinate (if that was the only thing keeping you away from it).
There's no Froyo roms on the Fascinate (hopefully that will change with the release of the Galaxy Tab). I think the Fascinate is first, second is Droid X, next is Droid INC in my book now. But we'll see what happens before my upgrade. Thanks guys for the tips!

If you want an incredible I would just wait for the incredible hd.
Its going to have a front facing camera..if anything I would wait till the begining of next year..phones will have dual core by then

I love the sexiness of the incredible that's what sold me because if you don't find it fast enough out of the box then overclock its not the same as having the better hardware out of the box but if you want something sleek and sexy that will fit in your pocket the incredible is the best
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible. This Droid Does More.
i'd also wait till the end of the year...
fascinate is nice but it's really not that much of an upgrade over the DInc. I personally would rather have the DInc over it.
The first problem with the fascinate is the LAG issue. there is a "fix" though but hopefully it's officially fixed through froyo.
by the time the fascinate starts seeing ROMs will probably be the same time the next batch of super androids will be coming out. the fascinate will not see many ROMs until froyo hits it.... not many devs want to waste there time on a outdated 2.1
the major problem i found with the fascinate is 2GB of internal memory....... i mean really? i enjoy the fact that i dont HAVE to install apps2sd with the incredible. I don't think i ever will honestly. I see no benefit, especially with titanium backup.
Anyways.. it's also "binged" out. i personally don't support that.
i just got an incredible, today actually and just got done flashing a new rom with evo framework. It's really cool that you can in essence have an evo, minus a few hardware differences. I upgraded from my vogue, and this is a night and day difference. It's really a solid phone, great to use, and has some really impressive features. All around its a great phone for usability.
Get an incredible, a free one from Best Buy. The Dinc is free on 10/29/2010.

Unless you specifically want a huge screen, I say stay away from the Droid X. 3 of my friends have it and it doesn't feel nearly as smooth as the Incredible. Not to mention, the Inc has Sense (which imo is much better than stock Android) but you always have the option to flash a stock Android ROM if you prefer. I suggest you wait till November 2nd to see what Samsung is about to announce. I think it's going to be the Continuum, but some (ignorant) people think it's going to be the Nexus 2.
Since you are up in November, maybe you can get the Incredible HD...assuming the rumors are true.

If this is true, THIS would be my choice over the Fascinate. Latest Generation Snapdragon with the new PowerSGX540 (same one in the Galaxy S) with 4.3 inch screen and front-facing camera(although unecessary) with HTC Sense and Kickstand? I really hope that this will come out either before my upgrade or in the 30 day period after my upgrade.

I have a year to go, but this would totally be my next phone. I am going to find a way to get it through my company so I can get it at the new activation price of (hopefully) $199 and still keep my Incredible SD.
Hopefully the timing works for you!
Go with Dinc for great root support.
Go with DincHD for awesomeness and good chances of root support
Hello, I have a droid 2 at the moment and I'm heavily toying with the idea of picking up a DX and selling my D2...would it be worth it or am i going to sort of downgrade?
I see that the DX has more roms and seems like more development too.
I got myself a DX and picked a D2 up for my sister at the same time, about 4 days ago. I have to tell you, I like my Rooted DX with ApeX 1.3.1 a LOT better than her D2. But it's whatever you will be happy with.
Come on brotha! The DX a "downgrade" from the D2?! How do you figure that?! Not to be all up in your kool aid - but you know Verizon isn't even selling new D2's anymore right? only refurbs. So I wouldn't call it downgrading to buy one of the most popular phones on the market.
Having ranted all that - honestly - same phone - a little different package. I know people are going to bust me on that - but come on - what's the difference? HDMI out? Wooo! I have used that uhh - none times in 4 months. 8mp camera? The X takes horrible pictures (well - not horrible. but not any better than the D2).
Going from D2 to the X is a complete waste when there are some Tegra 2 dual core processors right around the corner. If you are going to blow $300+, I say wait just a couple more months.
If you want to do something cool pick up an OG D1 that for $100 to tide you over. They are overclocking those to 1ghz and you will get REAL custom roms. cyanogen, bugless beast, ultimate droid etc.
I heard D1 is already getting a Gingerbread port. DX aint getting no kinda love like that. I'm trying to pick me up a D1 or an Incredible if you know anyone.
Just my opinion though.

The incredible is a nice phone. But the battery life is pretty bad. Get an extended and you'll probably be ok.
I am not saying that the Incredible is a better phone -but I would like to have it as a second phone so I could run CM and BB. I hear the Dinc has a semi functional ginger bread port also. Battery life does suck though.
Don't get me wrong -I really like the X. I don't think I could use a 3.7 screen anymore -but I sure wish we were completely unlocked.

Someone wrongly said that the D2 was discontinued. It may be true for the original, but the D2 Global .... with 1.2Ghz .... that's still very much on sale.
Its an even trade, speed & bad camera vs. beauty & good camera.

I think its all about what you are looking for, but in no way a downgrade. I think most people would say the D2 is a downgrade to the DX smaller screen and such. I guess you have to ask yourself the question is a hard keyboard a requirement. If it is not and you can handle the size the Droid X is probably going to meet or exceed all your expectations. I think it is one of the best Android phones out.
-McMex
I'm just used to owning hard keyboard devices but I've used the nexus one (that was my first full touch phone) and I didn't complain about it actually lol.
I've read some news recently about verizon possibly getting a new HTC device, but then again, Droid X is in my opinion considered the classier more stylish phone, so its re-sale value might hold out more when the new one's come out, that's also a factor for me.
I, like a few others, would advise you to wait. I'm loving my DX running Fission, but as soon as some of these dual core phones start popping up I'll be upgrading immediately.
I am worried about having to go down to a smaller screen. At first I thought it was necessarily big, but now when I use my old D1 it makes me realize how nice having such a large screen is. I did have to take my Body Glove off though. DX w/ Body Glove was just a little too bulky for me in my pocket. Taking away the cover made me love the phone that much more.
If we could get Bugless Beast on this phone I would be in heaven, and quite frankly would have no true reason to upgrade my phone. I'm just glad I ditched the Blackberry a few years back. Just to think, I almost got a Storm 2 over a D1. What an awful mistake that would have been.
Hello everyone,
I am in a dilemma of sorts. Currently, I own the HTC Droid Eris. While I enjoyed this phone for a while, it is really starting to show its age. Currently I am running the GSB gingerbread rom, and while that made it a little more bearable, my patience for the phone is running thin. It has problems playing a lot of the games out there right now, so I am itching to get a new phone.
That said, I have an upgrade available, and I was wondering if it is worth it to get the Droid X. My girlfriend has one, and I really like that large screen of it, and it seems like it is a pretty snappy phone.
My question to you is, should I get the X? I was looking at the Incredible 2, and I like that as well. Is it better?
Or should I wait for some of the newer phones that are coming out?
Thanks in advanced! I am confused on what I should do.

Personally I would not get the DX it is reaching its EOL soon. I would get a newer phone and one with an unlocked boot loader. That being said look for a phone with the features that you prefer ie touch or hard buttons, screen size whatever you prefer.

No it doesn't. The droid bionic was going to have a dual core but it was decided not to release it. The specs of the DX2 are exactly the same as the DX, except that it has more RAM and a 2gb sdcard instead of the 16gb

Actually, they're going to release the Bionic, just not when they said they would. They're "enhancing" it and releasing it possibly this summer or fall, though they could just stick the Bionic name to the Targa we've been hearing about too.
Another note about the DX2 is that while it's specs may be pretty good, dual-core and everything, it STILL lacks one very important detail that the Bionic was slated to include...4G LTE. The DX2 is a no-go on 4G, don't ask me why. Personally, I wouldn't buy a phone these days without a 4G radio. Maybe if 1 year contracts were around I would CONSIDER it, but buying a phone now with no 4G and then having to wait 22 months before I can get another (subsidized) is just not practical.
Get any phone with a Qaulcomm CPU, it's far better than anything Motorola is selling.
I have nothing against Motorola or Samsung (Samsung CPU's are better than Motorola, but Samsung is reluctant to issue updates when bugs/issues are discovered, I don't know why).
The Qualcomm CPU's even the older ones are superior in performance even at lower clock speeds, they are doing a better job engineering than either Motorola or Samsung.
I'm stuck with a Droid X for 2 years - I'm not complaining, I didn't pay for it, it does have a very nice screen, but if I were to buy a new phone it would be one with a Qualcomm (snapdragon) CPU.
Good Luck.

I do not believe that Outlaw Biker Knew that the G2x is MUCH faster than just a dual core Motorola processor would be. It's a dual core Nvidia processor and a single core NVida is almost twice as fast as the Motorola.
My best recommendation would be an HTC phone like Thunderbolt. It's newer, 4G and very fast, or if you are trying to save $, then go with an Optimus - both are Android, the Thunderbolt costs more and the Optimus costs less, but both outperform my Droid X.
