I have had my A500 tablet for about 2weeks and love it. I am still exploring it and getting use to HC but what I can not do is add my school email account which is an exchange format. I could do it on each of my other tablets (elocity, gtab) and I know those tablets were 2.2.
I have tried apps from the market that says you can use this or that to install email but nothing works. Any ideas would be appreciated. I would like to make this my go-to tab but with out this email account, especially during school months...
Thanks,
Touchdown is the App you want, and it works great on the A500. I use it for my corporate Exchange account. It has the best support for Exchange out of any programs I've tried so far, so give it a shot. There's a 30 day trial available, and if it works, I think it's only $20.

Just asking but if anyone has the Mytouch 3G from T-Mobile how would we set up Exchange Email?
lololololololol
Alright so I figured some info out the box the current mytouch only has POP3 and IMAP emails at the moment hopefully we'll receive an OTA with a redesigned Email app that will support exchange. Maybe if we were to get the Email apk from those who have the Magic? If anyone has it I would be more than happy to put it on my phone to test it out.
a couple of apps to sync with MS exchange
there's currently a couple of applications that sync with MS exchange.
- Roadsync: Sync mail and contacts. Free app. It works ok, but is a free beta, and taking a look to their website, is easy to guess that in the future won't be free.
- Touchdown: Nice design. Syncs Calendar, contacts & mail but this one is not free. Just 5 days to try.
Both apps work with push mail.
Let's hope in future updates, Google changes his mind and include Exchange mail in the native mail app.
In my opinion, this is the weakest point of this device for a kind of enterprise user like i am.
For now, i think thats all we got

The thing is, with the myTouch, it specifically states on the box that it supports "work" email, assuming it will, on release, support Exchange.
Well it doesnt say it on the box, but online it does say it on the website. Im using touchdown but not wanting to pay $25 to get my work email. But I heard maybe if someone has the Magic email.apk It would work, ill try it if anyone has the apk please post and ill try it so we can see if the same email app will work on the Mytouch 3G.

HTC coded their own version of the exchange sync and included it on the HTC Magic's released in Asia. From what I hear, it is completely functional and should be on the ones released in the US as well. When someone identifies that they have it available, please post a small review of its use in the US. This is the only thing preventing me from going to the Android platform permanently.
Does anybody tried to use TouchDown for Tablets in the XOOM ?, does it work OK ?, thanks

Best email program out there if you use Exchange. Nothing even comes close. This email program was the nail in my iPad's coffin.
Its pretty good. Way better than the native email app for exchange.

I use it everyday. Works great.

I have both RoadSync and Touchdown, and Touchdown is the best, hands down. It looks good and offers better end user configuration such as the ability to delete or not delete a message from the server when deleted on the device AND the option of not marking.the message as read on the server. I have it installed on my Xoom and Incredible. RoadSync is just a little rough around the edges, but it did work on my Xoom as well.
I uninstalled it. Too many crashes while composing and does not support drafts folder. Support said they are working hard to improve stability on Xoom and they were the ones to tell me it doesn't support the drafts folder - when you save message as draft, nothing shows up in drafts folder, although you can get to it with the drafts button displayed when you are composing a new message.
it actully works really well!
While I prefer the looks of the default exchange client it doesn't come close to the functionality of TouchDown. I highly recommend it!

Tried it...then uninstalled
I have three Exchange accounts, each of which requires a separate Touchdown profile because Touchdown does not support multiple Exchange accounts within a single profile. Accounts in the off-line profiles are not updated. Further, switching between profiles often causes the application to crash.
Customer support is great!
My biggest disappointment was that I cannot see the folder structure of my exchange account. I contacted support and they were very responsive. If anyone is interested here's what I wrote and the reply:
ME:
Dear support,
I downloaded the trial version of TouchDown upon recommendation in a forum. So far I am not really that impressed with the offered features. I was wondering if that is just a matter of updates until this will change:
1. On the main screen it reads "Emails: x (n unread) and
Appointment(s): y. Why can't I get to the emails/calendar when I tap on the summary info?
2. I haven't found a way to browse my exchange folders. I am sure that's a mistake on my behalf but it shouldn't be that hard to figure out!
3. Is there a way to (de)select all emails and delete/move them instead of clicking one after the other?
I understand that this is a new product for tablets but if I were to spend $20 on it I would like to see more features.
Thanks for listening!
SUPPORT:
Are you working on a Xoom? Are you saying that you see the email list but when you select and email it doesn't open? Or that you can't get to the Inbox?
You can choose what folders on Exchange to sync by going to settings>advanced>choose folders. Select what email folders you want to sync there. We are not a browser. We sync mail and you read it, forward etc...
There is a menu>more>select all function in the Inbox. You can then choose to delete or move.
Bottom line is that many features seem to be there but might be hidden and not intuitive. Don't think I'll pay $20 since I am fairly happy with the stock client.
The one thing I hate about touchdown is that he hasn't updated the UI since the days of Windows Mobile. It's just plain bad sometimes.

Agreed. The UI is painfully out-of-date. I banished it from my Xoom until they freshen up the design and usability.
I used Touchdown for a long time and it has by far has the most options. Tons O options. It was first to give you emails displayed as HTML instead of just text. The UI does need some refinement especially if using on a tablet (yes I know they have a tablet version now) and it is a hare buggy sometimes.
Since the Xoom I went back to just the stock email app. As it's faster/simpler than Touchdown and prettier. I don't like the fact that you can't tell the stock one to sync more than 30 days worth of emails though. (I have a couple saved folders, that I want it to sync all the saved emails in them). Plus the Stock calendar on the Xoom is much prettier than touchdowns calendar.
It Works
I'm using Touchdown and it works very well. It syncs my email, schedule and contacts. This is one of the apps that convinced me to keep the device.
Another touchdown user here, I'll agree with everyone else in that it's far more functional than the stock exchange client. I can deal with the UI because I go a free license from Moto.
Functional but in serious need of a facelift. Maybe one of our themers from XDA could take on the task.

I've been using Touchdown since I moved to Android. It has its quirks, but I could never use the stock client since it doesn't support push to folders under the inbox. You have to manually sync those folders.
Coming from BlackBerry, it was the closest I could find to their email functionality (I still miss the email experience from my old 8830). They update pretty often. Buy the license from the market, but download the beta off the website. Just Google "Touchdown beta"
Hi,
Just updated to 3.1 yet the Asus email app still will not show inline or embedded images in emails. It saves them as attachments.
Things i have tried
Sent the email from exchange to my gmail and viewed. Images will show
downloaded 3rd party app "Touchdown" Images will show"
when i click show pictures, images still won't load.
tried deleting my account and reloading it.. Nothing
updated from 3.01 to 3.1 and still nothing
Im running out of things to test as to how to fix this. This has to be a decent issue because it should affect everyone that uses the standard email app on honeycomb for exchange should be having this problem and if not can you think of anything you have done to fix it or that would be different to my setup.
Items to note:
My exchange account is on 2007
using stock ROM not rooted
I got the Honeycomb 3.1 update this morning and my first expectation was the email client got fixed! It was not. I'm kind of sad/dissapointed.
The email client still does not display the embedded pictures correctly.
I have 2 Exchange accounts, and the strange thing (from my own setup here), one of them actually works displaying the embedded pictures after the 3.1 upgrade.
The other one still does not work.
I believe the one that works is an Exchange 2003 account. The one that does not work is either Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 account. But I know its newer Exchange for sure.
Previously both did not work. So, they did fix something, but not all.
GMail client works great, no issue with the embedded image.
The other issue the email client still has, and not fixed, is that it still stops working after the tablet loses its connectivity for certain period of time. When the connection is established again, the email client will stop working and simply shows the spinning circle without any ending or fetch any new emails.
After the 3.1 upgrade, the same issue is still there... sad...
Its dissapointing in many ways because i bought this tablet for work purposes and the most essential iteam on the tablet fails to function correctly.
Its obviously able to be fixed because other email clients like touchdown dont have this problem. The reason i dont want to use touchdown is that i should not pay 20 bucks for the priverlage of this issue being fixed. Also thw stock widgets are much betterthan touchdowns.
Yes. Highly disappointing. May return this piece. I know Asus and their updates. Worse than Samsung.
Update? Why?
I really like the idea of the asus transformer, i did not want to get an ipad2 but when the simple things dont work the way they should it gets frustrating. Its not like the emailapp is re inventing the wheel. How can third party apps get it right but not ASUS.
Even my htc desire using htc mail works fine and show inline pictures without fuss.
don't be mad with Asus. The email client is Honeycomb built in native email client.
The one Asus built in only the home screen wigdet (that shows the number of unread emails).
What is the difference between the stock email client and third party email clients that make ebedded images work?
I noticed a issues log on google android website that this issue has been going on since 2008.
If google want to provide a os thats geared to business to steal market share from RIM you would think that something as simple as fixing this would be some kind of a priority.
Spoke with Asus. They were able to replicate the issue with their own exchange accounts. All they said was they don't control how the stock email client works nor can change it and it would be up to Google to fix it.
Android issue since before android was android:

Firstly hello. This is my first post on this forum.
I own an Acer A500 Icobia tablet running all stock programs.
The only thing that is doing my head in here is that I cannot work out how to search my exchange email folders.
In the Gmail app, there is a search icon which works flawlessly, but in my Exchange account, there is nothing there.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S which is using the Nexus S email app as the keyboard on the default Samsung app was broken.
effectively did not find any search function in it. i will do some checking around about it.
have a look at TouchDown TAB for Exchange, this one has a search function ... payable app but the trial for 30 days is free ...
Marcher
Thanks
I have tried maildroid but that only gave me mail back to the 23rd December.
K-9 wouldn't work at all (looks like no support for ex2010)
Will try Touchdown and see how that goes.
thanks again.
Ditto on Touchdown for Tablets ... I dont even have my Exchange acct set up in the email app any more. License was on sale in Amazon App Store, too
Has anyone had any issues with Exchange emails after the update. The old email client worked with no issues. Once I updated I must refresh manually to get emails. Everything is set to push - same way it was before. I've tried a reset on the tablet. Deleting and recreating the account and still have the issue. Tried with and without SSL and still same thing. Honestly I liked the older version better than this one.
I have had the same problem, actually. I saw that it was also complaining about the security policy, so I deleted and re-added the account. I did this last night, so I don't know if it's fixed the issue. (My tablet isn't with me.)
Joel
I had to delete the account and readd it to now everything seems fine.
I have had no problems with the update, works just fine.
Same issues here. It seems to update when it wants even though its set to push. I have deleted and readded acct which didn't help. Gave up and went back to touchdown which I was using previously.
Sent from my gtab 10.1 with wiz.
Similar problem here - it's constantly refreshing the whole inbox and then displays no e-mails at all.
After about 5 min., e-mails are back - but 5 min. later, all are gone again and the resync process starts.
Tried to delete and re-enter the account a number of times, no change.
Seems, the implementation is choking on my 1800+ inbox subfolders...
Touchdown HD works flawlessly!
Any ideas regarding that?
Best regards,
Klaas.
The Exchange connection is buggy. I've tried it on the Xoom, the original issue Tab and the TouchWiz Tab. Lots of problems.
I didn't want to use Touchdown but since the native email app isn't working that's what I've been doing. Touchdown works good, it's just that the interface isn't nearly as polished as the native email app.

Agreed, I havent used moxier mail personally but it is another alternative as well. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.moxier.mail.tablet.trial
There is the issue with the different versions of exchange.
I think my firm is on exchange 2010 and my email syncs fine without an issue

But does your email widget update properly if your tab is not touched for a few hours but connected to wifi?

I tried Moxier and the workflow isn't as good as Touchdown.
Mine is working now. Not sure what did it. I removed the weather and time widgets from my home screen (use beautiful widgets now) and for some strange reason when I went back into the market (it had been set up and used previously) it asked again which gmail account to use. Try going into the sync settings and confirm all entries for Google account or recreate google account and see if it works. Not sure why it would affect Exchange emails but now it is working.
