Hi all,
I updated my phone using the Motorola update manager, but my phone still prompted to download the latest update - I clicked yes, and WIFI only, but it just fails and comes up with an error message and a notification I can't remove. Does anyone know of a way to 'cancel' the update? Or am I stuck with this annoying notification and pop ups?
Thanks for any help
I have the same exact problem...I did the update via sbf... weird..
X3, same problem lol. On wifi it says update not available then says its currently downloading an update but does nothing
Well, then you know exactly what the problem is already.... if you SBF update, you aren't OTA updating, and the phone probably asked you to update OTA and you went ahead and flashed over it. I did that on my phone on Sunday, and had to flash back to 4.1.26 in order to OTA all the way up to 4.1.83, via 4.1.57 first. Follow the steps in order like you should and you won't have any issues - my phone works just fine on 4.1.83 after OTA updating it twice, and rooting it with GingerBreak!
Thanks for the responses guys.
If anyone finds a way of removing this problem without having to flash back and then upgrade again, please share the info!
Cheers.
I've installed gingerblur so the OTA route doesn't work (it gives me this ! mark and did nothing), so I have to use sbf method....I guess I could sbf it to 1.2.6 and then OTA it, but I suspect many of the system changes I made will be gone.

Hi,
Yesterday or so I read on the net HTC europe released a new rom. But when I try to update my Legens says there is no update available for my device. I tried with both 3g and wifi on as I read somewhere that could make a difference.
I used a goldcard to unbrand my vodafone legend but the last OTA update worked fine so I assume this cant be a problem now? (as far as I can see my Legend is totally stock).
Are there more people having this problem or now how to fix it?
I got an ota popup yesterday, downloaded and installed the update, and since then the phone has been restarting randomly all the time (no other difference that I've noticed so far), so I wouldn't be in a hurry to update if I were you
Update working for me..
I got the OTA update as well yesterday. Updated succesfully, legend works without problems.
I tried to update with my rooted phone, but the update stops after a while and an image of a phone with a question mark is shown.. Then the phone reboots like nothing happened.. Anyone else has this problem?
yeh it had the phone with the question mark and then it shows the phone without a question mark. i downloaded the update and installed it but when i checked the software info its still 1.405.4. my phone is rooted too
Same here, question mark ... no way to upgrade... we need Help from Paul
I gather these firmware updates are not documented anywhere what they fix?
So i got an icon on my notifications bar that said "DM" Device Management, and i know that meant that my update was being downloaded OTA. After about 1 minute, it went away. I already installed the JI6 manually through ODIN. So could that just mean that it was recognized that i already had the update, or did it "fail" because i had a manually installed ROM? Thanks for the help.....This is my first post by the way. I love XDA.
My GF just got her update notification today and it nearly bricked her phone. Mine is already updated through odin, so i figured i just let her phone update through ota. Well, the update failed on her and it caused her phone to get stuck on the Vibrant screen. This happened while we were out, but the good news is that the ota update fix the hardware lock. I used odin and flashed the update again and all is well. For the ones that knows how to use odin, I would highly recommend updating it yourself through odin.
Is there a limit to the number of times Sprint will push an OTA update to a specific phone?
I'm not receiving the MDL update anymore, and manually checking says I'm up-to-date, but I'm not being at MDC. I received it the first time and installed it, but as we all know, it broke root access and closed the motochopper exploit. So I reflashed the stock ROM and wiped everything, got the update again but ignored it. Well, I reset my phone again, and now that I actually want to install the update, Sprint doesn't seem to want to push it to my phone anymore.
Edit #1: Saw this thread: New Update is here! Here is how to force pull an OTA update. But I am still curious why Sprint isn't sending it to me automatically if anyone knows.
Edit #2: Woke up this morning and the update had been downloaded. *shrug*
Hello,
I am trying to update my Droid RAZR M to KitKat and it is failing to install OTA. The phone is unrooted, stock and it downloads the software update just fine, but when the phone restarts and shows the Android icon with a progress bar, it fails and the phone reboots saying "Update failed to install." Any ideas on what could be causing this? I have tried downloading the update 3 different times in case it could have been corrupted, but still no luck. Thanks in advance!

It looks like multiple users are having the same issue... https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/823965?start=0&tstart=0
Can anyone confirm the MD5 sum for the latest OTA update? Is it CCD6F2E0363C4155A77A12E50C6F0829

Has the phone ever been rooted? I understand that the saferoot method slightly alters the kernel, and that isn't reverted if you unroot.
If this is the case, SBF to the same or a newer firmware version and the update should work (but now you can also just SBF to KitKat itself).
That said: if you're locked, I'd recommend taking a long look at this before proceeding.

Thank you for this information. Yes, I am locked and the phone was rooted with Saferoot, but I had followed the unrooting procedure and was back on stock. I did not realize that the kernel was affected. Anyways, I downloaded the new KitKat firmware from http://sbf.droid-developers.com and flashed it successfully using RSD Lite. Everything worked out perfectly and I am very happy that I am now on the new firmware.
I know when flashing, firmware updates can be 1Gb - 2Gb file sizes. When you take that same update OTA, do they send down the entire firmware file, or just the sections that need updating? This 910V is the first phone I have never rooted, and have never taken an OTA update. When I bought it, it was on 5.0. I downloaded the CQC1 firmware and installed it updating it to 6.0, via Odin. It tried to update itself immediately after I rebooted. I disabled the updater until I did some homework, as the thing was relentless about updating and driving me crazy. I see now there is CQD1, CQE1, and CQF2 available. My problem is, I have a crap internet connection (1.5Mb) and am wondering if it has to download that hug file anyway OTA, if I wouldnt be better downloading it myself and installing it via Odin.... rather than an OTA update that gives me no info on progress etc....?
So:
1) OTA or download and install it/them myself
2) If installing myself, Where is the best place to download the huge file, without having to sign up or be throttled?
3) Is there anything in these newer updates that warrant updating, or any problems that arise from them? Or is it wise to just stay on CQC1 which is working without a hitch?
Thanks for any help.
