[Q] Cell standby

My cell standby is at 38% or higher at all times but time without signal at 0%.
This is the one thing always draining my battery and I was wondering if anyone had a solution for it.
If I use 2g network only it drops in half but I didn't get a 4g phone to sit on edge.

maybe its because if you have it set to "auto" then it switches back and forth between gsm and wcdma networks which may drain the battery(which im sure it does). since you have tried it on gsm only, try it on wcdma only and see what results you get. the only downside is if you drop out of a wcdma area, then it wont switch to gsm and you will get the limited service. where i live there is wcdma all around me so i leave it there unless i get on the road and travel then i put it on auto so i wont ever not have a signal.
How can I do that. In the stock rom it was in the settings menu but on cm7 its no longer there.

Tmobile might be throttling the speed or the towers close to you are being changed, recently tmo announced 48mb 4G and that might cause the lower speeds. And what ROM/Radio are you using?
Well I'm on CM7 and I doubt that It has anything to do With T-Mobile because I have another Phone which works perfectly fine with the speeds. This all happened when I switched Roms, I went from cm7.0.2 to royal Ginger and that's when it got slow. I Finally went to CM7.0.3 which is what I'm currently on and the problem still exists so I have to use my wifi

Try using a new Radio file. See if that helps. It's stickied in the top of the development section.

Network 3G and H swapping problems...

Hi
I have this problem and i think ive come across a few people with the same frustration.
Which is the constant switching of our galaxy s fone networks frm 3g to H.... Happens so constantly it disrupts and keeps me in limbo so many tyms i cnt even tether properly with this problem!!!!
Please olease is there any fix for this out? Ive looked everywher!!!!! And if not. . . please as a humble request can a dev please create something so that only H frequencies are chosen and are prioritized so that it doesn switch to 3g please?????

Ha.
Yeah mine does too sometimes.
A way I get past it is to tap back button and select again and it quickly loads up in h.

Could be a problem with XXJVS radio? I go back to XXJVR to compare results.
HSDPA is an extension of 3g. It uses the same frequency. The reason it is switching is to save power for better battery life. It switches to H when you are using the connection, but than switches back to plain 3g when it is idle.

Too much hassle to log. Hardly ever happens and when it does its an easy fix.

Yes ofcourse its an extension from 3G to H .... But i am still using the dam network n it still keeps changing to 3g and H is there no way to keep it on one of em?

That's just how dataconnection works. .if you want to keep your connection in H-mode constantly, you need to make your phone to ping something for every 3 seconds...like ping -t 3 8.8.8.8 in windows (if I remembered it correctly).
In short: connection is in H-mode as long there is traffic. .

In my experience (from reading stuff here and observing my phone) it seemed that constant switching between H and 3G drains battery faster than if we could force the phone to use only H. From your post, I understand this is not the case. I never thought that 'switching' was a battery save feature...
I'm using CM7, and although it switches to 3G for a short period of time very infrequently, most of the time I have an 'H' displayed, even when it's idle. I also don't notice any significant battery drain. Maybe my phone is just crazy, though.
I've had this since day 1 with my phone, through many different roms... it's frustrating as all hell and really hurts my battery life and my patience
The switching from 3G to H is not the problem and not the cause of the problem here - it's just the symptom.
It's because data is lagging and stalling further upstream, so the phone is simply returning to idle as it should.
The solution is to change carriers to something that gives more reliable data.

Very useful info .... I asked for a solution to stay on H i get a reply to disable to SAVE battery life which is clearly not most the prioritized issue here... But thank u.... Any one else with a solution to either stay on H or 3G????
i had a sony x10 mini pro and problems were similar... But then from control panel i selected 3G only ( only options were 2G and 3G) and when it was onnit it NEVER gave up H ... Constantly stayed onnit so if its possible on a fne **** that m preetty sure we cn do it on a galaxy s

Wouldn't the most likely cause of your phone switching back and forth be because you're losing connection? My phone stays in H when I need it, and leaves it when it doesn't. So...

Nope i have constant network on full bars... Keeps working only until the H starts swapping is the time my phone enters limbo and i lose connectivity

The problem is that it literally hangs between 3g and H changing constantly without loading anything. If I say for example on xda, touch a thread and it does this, it may stay in a changing to and fro for minutes and not load. But if I select thread again as soon as it starts doing it it opens to thread quickly and normal.

Be careful with radio updates, but I would try the latest t-mobile OTA kernel if you haven't already (and assuming you're on t-mobile in the US)

Yes, most definitely be careful with any kind of radio update, should've said that. Where could one find that kernel?

I just downloaded the first zip and also flashed it but idk it hasn't installed properly I c sill the 3g and H changing constantly and not been steady
That's cuz if your in a service area with H coverage the device will switch to H when you need data, it will idle on 3G since H would devour the battery. Its normal what your seeing bro.

Random loss of reception?

Anyone experiencing this? Sometimes ill be on the internet for an hour then randomly my signal will drop and after a minute or so it will come back. Also if I haven't used my phone for awhile and right when I'm about to Google something the internet cuts off then comes back a minute later.
Im trying to figure out if its my phone or T-Mobile fault. Its not roms or radios because Ive tried a few different ones.

The op may not have answered his own question. I have similar issues with my phone. Found a few little glitches with how my phone reacts to firmware. I need to write up my findings in a new thread. Pretty interesting stuff. I had a big issue that I was able to fix and it may work for a bunch more people too.

I domt think so, i have noticed, with stock, i get a strong 4g signal. BUt when i switch to different roms, the signal fluctuates.
I have tried: Darkside, creamed glacier, cm7, virtuous unity affinity quattro
Dclaw please share your findings!
Btw my gf also has a mytouch 4g but its stock unrooted and has the same problems as me.

Happens to me quite often. I'm running the latest radio and I think that's the problem for me. It never happened with the previous radio it had. Reason I haven't messed with it is because it works great in the city and I'm always on wifi at home. It bugs me because I send a text and signal drops to 0, "message not sent, will resend when data services are available." back to 3 bars, then resends.

I have the Panache here in Canada through Mobilicity, basically the same phone with a different name, and this is a known issue with the entire batch they sold. I'm pretty sure it's a phone issue on HTC's part that doesn't seem to have a fix for it. I can't remember what the reason was exactly but google Panache no signal or something like that and you should be able to find it.

Random lost of signal
Hi erverybody,
"dclaw_fantum" said he found a suggestions for that, but what is it? I am with Mobilicity (Canada) too and I have the same issue with my phone (also the panache). My friend is also with mobilicity but has a different phone and not any problem like this. It is strange because I am having full reception and it just turns of... totally. At least there should be a GSM signal or WCDMA signal, but it just turns off. Sad that HTC is not trying to fix this, as it seems an issue for a lot of people. Greetings.
It has to do with your Rom that your using or Radio either or can be your problem.
Sent from my M865 using XDA
MyTouch 4G with Wind here. Same issue.
Tried 3 different radios and 2 stock and one custom rom and I have the same problems.
I've been leaning towards the problem being a combination of the radio and the rom and how they interact with each other rather than just one of them as it doesn't seem to make any difference what combination of the two you use.
I'm not a developer though, so I might be way off...

Same issue here with a couple of stock MT4Gs on T-Mobile.
