hey guys, trying to do my first upgrade to get win 7 on my very slow buggy hd2, i am following the guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971478
and i am stuck on the first step, i have checked the SPL version, 1.42.00 i think it was, had phone on, connected up the usb, then downloaded and ran HSPL2_Run from my pc, and it fails on the usb connect, stuck on what to do
Edit>
I have now rebooted phone, held down the volume key and entered the coloured screen, connected usb, says usb at the bottom of the screen, and re ran the program, still no joy
Edit>
I have now tried using a different file on the link HSPL and i get past the USB connect and get a large loading bar but then get another error
Unknown error
Error Code: 0x80003
Always reference this code for eventual requests

Can't speak for anyone else's guides but this YouTube tutorial with links to the needed files was the one I used and it works perfectly...
hey mate, thanks for the reply, i spent a good hour trying all different things and doing them over and over and all of a sudden it worked, done all the things on the video, and now i have win 7 on my phone, i am sooo pleased with my self lol
only thing is my sd card is 2gig so will need to buy a bigger one when i got some cash, when i get a bigger one can i just use the pc, drag and drop the files on the card to the pc and then back onto the bigger card, or is all the needed files saved on the phone?
cheers
I think I did read something somewhere about someone using a partition tool to do something similar, but for all practical purposes you should assume a hard reset is required to allow WP7 to format and set up the card properly.

Ywe drag and drop will work with photos, videos, documents, and etc. Or you can use copy and past too.
As far as you putting the new card in I think all you have to do is put the SD card in your HD2 and then boot it up. I think it will be like the first time you booted because WP7 uses the SD card for it's internal memory so it will have to format your new card with RAID and place what info it has to place on it. Atleast that is what I have read, I do not use WP7.

It won't. There is no real file explorer for WP7 and I don't believe the filesystem is readable outside of WP7.
I believe you will also need to reflash WP7 to have the card work effectively in the OS.

You may be right, but I thought that you could still use drag and drop or copy and paste if you use the little USB mass storage hack for WP7. But I have never used WP7 on my HD2 so what do I know.

You can to some degree, but it's not as simple as good old WM and WP7 will most likely rename all of the files to add further complication. For a noob, best advice is to expect a hard reset
Well after a day at work, last night i was loving the win 7 on my phone, now i hate it....
Got so many issues with it,
1. Randomly reboots itself every 10 mins or so everytime, all day long and when it does it goes into a sort of safe mode with none of my settings saved, themes etc, and i have to reboot 2+ times to get my settings back, then it goes again after 10mins
2. when screen is locked for a few mins, when i go to unlock it and activate screen nothing happens, then the phone reboots.
3. During all these problems, every other time all the apps stop working, dont load up, reset fixes, not always.
4. Battery dies within an hour os so from full
Used [LEO_70]BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA-HD2_WP7_V4_(13.Apr) rom
any others anyone can cecommend or maybe even Android?
Also how do i install a new Rom, do i just run in on the 5th option of Magldr or do i need to delete it off first then install the new one? cheers

Your issue most likely isn't WP7 - which is normally quite stable - but an incompatible SD card. I'd suggest you bring forward your plans to get a bigger card - have a read around (there are several threads) to see which flavours of card are more likely to work well - and prepare to re-flash.
You should note that the selection of a suitable SD card does not seem to be an exact science - there is evidence to suggest that almost identical cards may have varying levels of success.
So the bad news is you are facing expense; the good news is that your experience of WP7 isn't representative.

i am a ardent fan of this site and a regular visitor since i brought my htc touch hd, i am living in Australia bought the phone when i went to India last month. this is my very first windows mobile, the phone was working like a charm till the time i accidentally reset the phone by clicking clear storage. i thought it was like emptying the recycle bin in windows vista, the phone asked me to type the numbers from 1 to 4 which i did and everything changed from that time. the phone is abnormally slow and often hangs, leting me down when i need it. of late i am not able to sync the phone with the system as it is not getting recognized my sd card.ophra does not work as like most of the applications. i tried to format my 8 gb sd card which came along the phone, but the fate is still the same. will a hard reset help me?
my rom is: 1.18.707.3(23358) wwe
radio version: 1.09.25.14
i am a novice person as far as phones are concerned, i don't meddle with it
help in this regard is much appreciated.

Yes, you should try a hard reset. Remember to backup any data that you have entered in the phone, hopefully you will be able to sync to do that. If I understand, you deleted the 'internal storage', am I right? Maybe some programs are storing executables, DLL files or other stuff there and all of them stopped working when you 'cleared' storage. Btw, where is that 'clear storage' option in the menu?
It's in System Settings I think.
Isn't Clear Storage a hard reset?
yeah its the one found in settings under the tab system, i think i did a hard reset by do it. thats what i found from the forums, while i was reading a few hours back. i dont know what to do now, also read it some where that installing .net 3.5 and change the settings using a reg editor, later install sd card tune up cab will improve the performance considerably. which registry editor do you suggest? thanks for your replies....
I had similar issue with my Touch HD, but it happend after i took a picture (one of many) with the camera. I did a hard reset, but that did not help. Try removing the SD card, because in my case the problem was that something had gone wrong with that picture and the phone could not read it properly and display it in the Photos and Videos section ot the TouchFlo 3D (or at least that what I think was the reason ). Anyway, that worked for me - glad if it works for you too.
P.S. Forget to mention that after deleting that picture (with SD card reader - I could not do it in the File Explorer on Touch HD) everything went back to normal.
omg i solved my problem atlast....... thanks to all who gave me suggestions about this problem. i hard reset the phone after formating my sd card. now the phone runs like a wild horse...faster than before.
Good to hear.......Now jump on that sucker and get moding......yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa
Hello
As i gave the title : HTC HD2 a lot of problems.
I have htc hd2 with official ROM 1.66 french, more than 75 mb free memory on the device.
SD card = 16 go
before writting here i tried a lot of combination!
1-formated my sd card by the pc (fat32 and sctor size is 16 or 32) or by the phone but i have the sames problems!
2-i did a flash and hard reset many times.
first, when trying to copy to my HTC HD2 using activsynchro or mindows mobile centre a lot of file can not be copied to the device with a error message from windows 7 such as device not connected. (false message because device is connected because i can browse the folders inside the device)
Second, i downloaded some correcting cabs from this site, like zoomer and bsb tweaks wich i can not install, the device tell me that installation is impossible either on the device nor on the SD card..
Third, i copied some photos in bmp format but i cannot see them on the phone.
forth, tomtom 7.918 can not see more than one map on the SD card (i have france and WE but he can not see both of them
I can continue to write here for more than 3 pages of bugs and problem with this device without speaking about the intelligence of htc to put the reset buttom below the cover of the battery, since it blocs every 5 min, the cover is never in its place
I have a kaiser and a touch cruise and i was very satisfied from htc but with this gadget (450€) i am starting to change my mind
there will be any solution?
Thank for help if any
if you notice carefully, most of the bugs you mention seem to be directly related to your sd card. i have a strong feeling that your device is fine but your sd card is faulty/fake. search this forum for more threads about problems caused by fake sd cards. i am using a 8 gb sandisk card since my kaiser and it worked fine in the kaiser as well as in the hd2.

You know if you put stuff on your SD card being connected to the computer, I think you need to "eject" the phone prior to see the files on the mobile/ its like this when i setup a USB connection as opposed to "active sync" or "windows mobile connection".
Anyway, yes lot of your problems seems to be not about HTC but other things...
However, yes, completely dumb design to have put the reset there especially as we have to use it very often.
I also find really stupid that "POWER ON" button on the front... What's happening if you completely turn off the device? Well it can be turned on by mistake in the pocket (happened lot of times to me). Then it "start", make some loud noise, then goes to the "pin unblocking code".
Well done, HTC, if the device is off, in the pocket, its possible to turn it on, make noise, block it by mistake...
dumbs...
Also its not possible by default to put vibration in the same time than ringing for incoming calls... how dumb, especially when this extremely loud device "outside" is becoming "quietly deadly" in the pocket (or quietly brillant :/ )
Or that we can't hear it when it's in the pocket in that leather HTC bag-
etc...
ActiveSync has never been very good for copying files... It's slow and sometimes fails to transfer certain files in my experience from using it with a Trinity, Diamond, Diamond2 and HD2... Use the disk transfer mode and you shouldn't have any trouble...
My Tomtom can see both of my maps so I don't know what you're doing wrong...
All the little problems I had with my HD2 vanished when I finally decided to flash a cooked ROM so youmight want to give that a go...
And not that it makes any difference, but I see that you're an SFR subscriber, so if you got the phone from them, you probably got the phone for less than 100€ like myself...

hello,
my phone is not done buy SFR but i bought it
Tomtom can see one carte one time, if i put them together, he does not do
I finally returned to my old sandisk 2Gb carte but i still have some problems and phone blocks and i need to do a reset!
Some things I have discovered about the DVP:
If you turn the dvp off and pull the microSd card out and start the phone back up then:
1. The phone will still work 100% without the microSD card. It just won’t remember anything after a reboot. This includes settings, typed words, etc.
2. If you take the microsd card out and do a hard reset, the phone won’t go through the normal setup. It will boot straight into WP7 without any tmobile customization. You basically get the Vanila version of WP7- complete stock.
3. Somehow after removing the microsd card, I was able to get web2go to work for a quick second loading up desktop google.com- after that, no other pages worked. I was forced to the page telling me to upgrade. No go on Web2Go here.
Removal of the sd card isn’t just some regular sticker you can put back on after you’re done. It’s some kind of painted sticker that shreds – think of it like a broken Christmas ornament where the paint is stripped. You bend the sticker, the stickers’ paint cracks.
---
Edit: after poking around a little more ive discovered:
1. DVP does not need a microSd card at all to be 100% functional. It operates without one completely fine in terms of performance, speed, etc.
This was how I tested it:
a. Put mSD card in.
b. Hard rest (factory reset under settings) the device
c. When the device restarts and goes to the blackout/dead screen, remove the battery
d. Pull the mSD card out.
e. Put battery back in
f. Push and hold power button to turn on and allow device to complete the hard reset.
It will begin with the full setup WP7 installation. All tmobile apps will be restored. Everything is the same except that no microSD card will be present; I have found this to not be hindering anything as far as my testing goes. Everything works including data, wifi and calls. Im pretty sure music storage would be a problem, but I didn’t test downloading more than 2 songs in market.
The microSD card is just storage. The device works 100% without it. Yes eventually you’ll be hindered by the amount of stuff you can put on the dvp, still that is a storage problem.
I have no knowledge how the dvp integrates with the sd card. But I guess it must be important since we aren’t to remove it.
BTW, after removal of the mSD card from the DVP, my computer can’t seem to recognize it. I can’t even format it since it can’t be detected. It’s so odd. I’ll try to dig more to see if I can make the mSD card useful in some other way.
Let me know what you guys think.
More Interesting things:
Without the microSd card, the device reports
405.03MB total
336.96MB Available
if my math is correct,
68.28MB is used to install the entire WP7 OS + some tmobile apps.
How cool!
What i dont understand is if there is internal storage (its obviously not RAM since it can now remember things after a reboot), why doesnt dell use it to store the OS and use microSD card to store apps, music, etc.??
That's awesome and gives us more hope for further digging. Were you able to use the device as storage device with the reg tweaks and see the folders? If so, how much capacity does Windows drive property show?
to get that sd card to show up on computer just format it using a dumb nokia phone

The OS is probably stored in ROM. Interestingly, the DVP is listed by phonearena.com as having 1GM of ROM, which is more than almost all other WP7 devices currently released. Of course, you have to take those specs with a grain of salt since phonearena.com also lists RAM as 512MB.
@notebookgrail,
you're gonna have to link me to the registry tweaks. id love to check it out!

It is early in the life of this OS, so EVERYTHING needs salt. The DVP may indeed have 512MB of RAM; this hasn't been conclusively disproven.

we need to find out how to use hardware buttons to do hard reset; if you are unlucky like me, when you replaced the sdcard and it went bad, there is no way for you to pop another card in and do hard reset on that card
htc and samsung phones all have a bootloader hard reset menu accessible during boot via combination of key presses, hopefully venue pro does have one

when I do that button combo on my DVP I see a "plug the phone into your PC" graphic. when I do so, Zune pops up and give me an error message (related to another issue) that it is unable to restore my phone. It looks like somehow Zune has an important role in performing the hardware master reset.
You don't see anything like this?

thats not the hard reset menu. htc has the bootloader option to perform factory reset in the case of the OS would not bootup, and also the option to connect the device to pc to perform restore (venue pro has this)
but since zune does not allow backup, the restore option is useless
If you set up your phone with a windows live account it gives you the option to remotely send a command erase your phone data and reset to factory defaults.
You need a windows live account and go to the windows live home screen.
mouseover "windows live" in the top left, then>devices>find this phone>erase

i was able to initiate the 32gb card using the setting->about->reset method when i first got the phone.
after a couple random crashes, the last time it was functional i was browsing the web, then the phone seemed hanged, then kicked me right back to the metro screen, but the phone no longer recognize the sdcard on the about screen; after reboot the phone got stuck on dell screen and would not startup, so i switch back to the original 8gb card, did not work either (boot-loop)
i pulled the card out, and it booted fine without any addition apps, and i try to initiate a reset, pulled battery, insert card, exact same symptoms with respected sdcards

I was under the impression that on e a card was initiated it could not be used again in another device...though I did read something about formatting on a Symbian device. When you pull the card that is crashing did you try to restart the device with no card? Try it. After that shut down and put the original card back in
This weekend I was driving along and my CoPilot stopped working. Then I noticed that a couple of other apps weren't working and that the camera said it wouldn't take photo's until I inserted the SD card. I've had an 8GB card in there for the last 18 months.
Taking the card out of the phone and putting it in the PC does nothing. The PC at first says the card needs formatting but if you say yes it just says, insert a card.
I took some pictures at a friends Stag Party and I really need to get these pics off the card. I don't care about anything else.
I've tried a few of these "recover your images from a corrupted or formatted card" programs but they all require the card to be visible to the PC for them to work.
Has anyone get any ideas? Please help me
You could try a differnt card reader/different pc and hope that it works then, but tbo if its borked then with paying lots for data recovery, I'd say your out of luck
Sadly, I think you might be right. Looks like that card has gone to silicone heaven to be with all the calculators.

I would try every usb plug you have on your computer. i had the same problem and i kept at it. it took me several days to finally get it to work & to be honest im not sure why/how it did but i was thankful none the less.
i used this program & like i said i just kept trying. what worked 4 me was i held the card in the computer but only half way which the computer then was able to see the card. if you format the card you will lose everything on it so if you want pics off it & you format it you wont be able 2 recover them.

Thanks for the advice I'll give it a shot.
I thought at least if I could get it formatted then I could use some picture recovery software to get the pics back. It's so frustrating because there are only about 10 pics that I'm even bothered about. Everything else it backed up
hopefully that program will let you see that card, it did with mine eventhough though computer wouldnt. odd i know. i wouldnt apply or mess around to much with that program if you dont know what your doing because you can make it more difficult to regain your images. i gave the link 4 version 5 but i used version 6. i couldnt find it earlier 2 post, sorry. they do have a data recovery program that i used as well but ill have to hunt it down 1st & then i'll post the link.
i bought a hacked 16gb memory stick off ebay (!%$#@&$) that became corrupted and i was able to recover some of my files using the programs below. hope this will help you out.
MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 6.0
MiniTool Power Data Recovery
Thanks a lot man. I'd managed to find those from your first link. In fact, Partition Wizard actually suggests the 2nd program if the first one doesn't find anything
I've run Partition Wizard against it. It took all night after starting it at about 9pm it finished at 8am this morning. It thought my 8GB card was a 2TB drive but hey, at least it could see something which is more than any other tool.
I didn't find anything using that one but I'm going to try the Power Data Recovery tonight. Fingers crossed.
Hello,
I recently bought a HTC HD 2 Tmobile from ebay .
The phone will not boot up.
When i start up the phone it leads me to the windows start up to the tmobile start up then back to the windows start up and stays there and i cannot do anything except take out the battery.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you are stuck in a boot loop. There is a few things you can try.
First check the battery pins and make sure you do not have any that are bent out of alignment with the others or that is being hindered in anyway.
Next you can download the official Windows Mobile ROM from T-Mobile. You will have to enter the IMEI number, look under the battery for it. Once downloaded you can try to flash it via USB. Just put your HD2 into the bootloader by holding down the volume down button while powering on your HD2 and then connect it to your computer via USB cable. You will have to have Windows Mobile Device Center or Active Sync installed on your computer so you can get the USB Sync connection you need. Go to here to find a link to both, just choose the one you need for the type of windows you use. Anyway once you have your HD2 in bootloader and connected the serial in the bottom white bar of bootloader should change to USB, this means you have the USB Sync connection. When you see the USB you can right click on the ROM you downloaded from T-Mobile and run it as administrator. I do suggest you let your HD2 stay off and charge for a little while first though to make sure you have more than a 50% charge.
If that does not work you can try running a Task 29 and then repeating the above mentioned steps to flash the ROM again.
If this does not fix your problem you probably have hardware issues causing the boot loop.
Thank you so much for the reply. I will try the things you have listed. Even though i am a bit lost haha. If these steps dont work , what are some of the hardware issues that may be the cause of this? And i know this is random but can you help me load android onto my hd2? I have 2 2gb micro sd cards do i have to get a bigger card? Which android os would you recommend? Thats quick and smooth? Thx!

the hardware issue would be overheating cpu, have to get a new main board via HTC warranty (if it is not voided due to water damage or dropped).
Android is easy to load. Fast/smooth you want a CyanogenMod7 ROM, you can find versions for SD or versions that you flash on the phone itself. You can either run Windows Mobile 6.5 then laucnch Android from SD (dual-boot), launch Android from SD with no Windows Mobile, launch Android flashed from internal storage, or flash Windows Phone 7 to internal storage and run Android from SD (dual-boot).
The tutorials are all in the HD2 Android forums and HD2 WP7 forums.
initially I would try a hard reset before getting too technical.
hold down volume up and down and switch on. keep holding volume buttons, when prompted press volume up. this will restore to out of he box settings ie remove all previous data on the phone.

As far as hardware issues go it is like XDA member orangekid said overheating is the predominant reason that comes to mind. Another thing is degraded prossesor connection or degradated flash/NAND chip connections. All of witch can only be fixed by main board replacement.
Yes I can help you "load" Android onto your HD2, just click the guide link ed in my Sig. I think everything you need to know is there. well except how to run Android fro SD card, hmmm maybe I should add that. Also you can go here for more links to very useful threads in the Android General Stickie Roll up thread.
Again I have to agree with XDA member orangekid, the CyanogenMod7 ROMs are pretty creaking awesome. But I do recomend the Hyperdroid ROM I have linked in my Sig. I have used it for my daily driver for months and the only real problem I have had is the latest update to the ROM the new updated market would not work properly I would have to go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications. Then find the market selerct it and then select Uninstall Updates. Oh and make sure you do not have the check box checked to aromatic update the market or you will have to do this everytime you use the market. I am currently testing the [17 Aug][SENSE3.0] Pyramid HTC WWE 1.35.401.1 - Real 3D [V2.1][RAF 1.9GB] ROM to sort of test the HTC Sensation's ROM and to check out HTC Sense 3.0.
As for your 2gig SD card no it will work but I do recomend you consider getting a 4 gig SD card. I have heard mixed results from 2 gig SD cards that people use to dual boot with. I personally have never used under a 4 gig SD card and have never had any trouble.
Thank you all for your replies.
I will Try out all the steps to fix my phone first. then i will try to load up android onto it and i will get back to you guys. i thanked all that have helped thank you so much. i will be back around sunday or monday with an update. wish me luck! oh one more question. would a 8gb be a good size micro sd card? or should i get a 16gb?
It really depends on how much space you'll think you'll need like, are you a person who takes a lot of pics or video, do you keep a lot of music on your phone? If you do then yes I would go with an 8gb. If not then you could really just use a 4gb sd card. I use a 8gb class 10 sd card myself and store a lot of pics, roms and backups and I haven't had the need to go back to a 16gb. Also you dont have to get a high speed card either, a class 4-6 is plenty.
If you decide to go the dual boot for Android I would look up a program found here on XDA called Rundroid. It will allow you to run many different Android builds from your sd card and is very simple to use. I would give the link but I'm not by a computer right now, sorry about that.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I dont want to comment on something and be wrong so with that I would take it to t-mobile and see if you can have it switched out under your warranty. I had a very similiar problem that it was stuck on the HTC/T-mobile splash screen and I sent mine in for repair through HTC. They fixed the issue and sent it back (for free), all I had to pay was shipping there. They do say that if they find something thats not covered under warranty like water damage/not the proper software they'll call and let you know if there will be a charge to fix it.
I will say that my bootloader and probabaly everyone elses dont look like yours. Just above the spl-2.08 mine says pb81120..also mine says Cotullahspl where yours does not. If you dont find what your looking for here on the site best bet is to send it in for repair. Even if T-mobile says you didn't buy the warranty or what ever you still may be covered through HTC. This also will apply even if you bought the phone used.
HTC repair can be found here.
were you not holding the volume down button when you turned on the phone?
I would just download/flash stock from that bootloader screen.
I was holdin the vol down and power and i bought it on ebay so.. idk if i have warenty.
Even if you bought the phone on ebay you still could have a warranty. In post 12 I linked HTC repair. If you call them you could find out if you do have a warranty on it or not. They'll ask if for the imei# and run it. Im not sure if its a two year or one year on the warranty but they'll be able to tell you that.
I bought a used HD2 on ebay as well. Mine was listed as broke and was stuck on the T-mobile splash screen. I asked for the imei# from the seller and then called HTC to find out if it still had a warranty which it did, so i bought it. I lucked out that my phone was covered under warranty, you may or may not have the same luck as i had.
Thank i did what you told me and they gave me a new motherboard on mine. Thanks alot
