Hi,
I feel very bad asking but can you please help me with my Magic(32A) - Rogers.
Here is the story,
I bought the phone on ebay and the seller indicated that he rooted the phone before he sold me. So I thought okay as its rooted I can go to fast boot and just apply update.zip. So I did the below
1. switched off the phone
2. pressed home + power on and went to fast boot
3. did clean swipe
4. applied update.zip
It applied the custom rom(CyanogenMod 32a) and after that I am stuck on Roger's boot-up screen. So after this I removed my battery and I tried to going to fastboot and clicking Nandriod v2.1.1 restore and I get this error "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkop1". After that I did wipe and tried to apply restore but can "Error running nandriod restore. Restore not performed".
Can you please advise me of any options I have to restore my magic back.
Thanking you
FD
If you where not flashing the SPL you "should" still be ok if you can get into fastboot.
If you can just try to apply the ROM again, you might want to download another copy or different ROM (Hero maybe).
Clinton
do me a fav and power on holding down the vol down. see if you go into fastboot. if you do then you are not bricked. if so, see what your radio and spl is plus check if your (s) is off. if so you are rooted and you flashed the wrong board rom. if its on then your seller lied and you are not rooted. if so fallow the rooting guides that are posted here. if you need ne help just pm me and i will apply my skills the best i can. i want all to be rooted and experience the true right of freedom. lol. fosho. . . .
Partial hope
When I power it on and hold volume down I can get into fastboot mode and here is what I can see on the screen
Sapphaire pvt 32A eng s-off H
Hboot-1.33.2009(SAPP50000)

Can you please advise me on what I can do next please. Is my phone rooted as it has "s-oof"? and what should my next steps be.
Thanking you
FD
ok ?. did you buy it rooted so you didnt have to do ne thing?? does it have RAv recovery or cm's recovery??
Thank you rocking_mod I was able to restore my phone. Here is what I did
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
And finally now the phone works again. Enough of action for one day.
Thanks again.

Congrats!
Always great to see when someone bring his mobile back to live
I'm guessing the ROM you downloaded was not compatible with your phone. As a side note, do NOT apply the Rogers update ontheir web site. It will upgrade your SPL to the dreaded perfect version.
I got the same error when I first apply the hofoion108.zip. I happened to press apply again somehow, and it had no errors at the second time. My phone can start with that rom later on.
I need help, i am in same situation as you freedonkey, but i don't know where to get the files you reffer to:
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
The HoFo mod and which recovery image should i use and where to get it ?
My phone specs so far are:

ps: I am not sure, but i dont know what model is mine (i am kind of a newbie :/) i think it should be Rogers, but not sure, bought it in Portugal blocked to TMN phone company.
I also "soft-bricked" my Magic when installing a new ROM. I had wrong radio and didn't wipe before trying to install - all I was left was the HTC boot splash.
I was then, after a few days of reading & thinking, able to restore the device! I had bought it used so I had no warranty.
I used ADB to check out if the device was alive or dead. I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata) and flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6. After that I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel. It worked! After that (for a month) I've been playing with CM6 nightlies and RC's.
If you don't want root capablities, just the original ROM, there should be good info on that. But if you do, I would recommend to follow CyanogenMod instructions from their wiki - they're helpful and easy to follow.

Thanks for the help kantiii, i will see what i can doo tonight when i get back home
Hey again Kantii,
I am sorry i am bit newbie, I figure out my phone is still alive sthoughout ADB as u did, but i don't know for sure how to:
1- I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata)
- I actuall wiped it after i turned the phone on with Home+off buton, does that inclued kernel and system wipe ?
2- flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6
- CM = Cyanogen Mod ??? which of these files u recomend to me ? (Both radio and CM5/6 ?)
3- I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel
- Is Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery compatible with any HTC MAgic ???
I am really newbie about all this so I would appreciate all details! :|
thanks a lot for everything so far anyway
Sorry for long time no reply! I had not checked my mailbox!
You should wipe them in fastboot:
1. Turn your phone on by pressing back + power until you are in fastboot & see the skating droids. Another method to do this is turning the phone on by pressing volume down + power and then the back key.
2. Connect the device to your pc (make sure you see FASTBOOT USB on the phone display) and run CMD
3. type "fastboot devices" and check if your phone is plugged in correctly and you see the device ID.
4. Now you can wipe them correctly with fastboot:
4.1 type "fastboot erase [system/cache/userdata/boot/kernel/recovery all separately]" (without brackets etc, they are here to make reading easier)
4.2 Download:radio http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fi...es/?download=Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17.img
SPL http://briancrook.ca/android/3.22/hboot-1.33.2005.img
recovery http://rapidshare.com/files/387932922/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H-cyan.img4.3. Move the downloaded files to C:\ (and if you want, rename to Radio.img and Hboot.img and Recovery.img) so it is easier to use them. After that type "cd.." in cmd repeatedly until you are in C:\
5. Now you should be able to flash the radio, SPL and recovery images:
5.1 Type "fastboot flash radio Radio.img"
5.2 Type "fastboot flash hboot Hboot.img"
5.3 Type "fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img"
5.4 In each step wait until fastboot says it has finished - if you won't, you have to start everything again or may brick your device.
6. Now in your phone press menu to power down it. Then boot again to fastboot to confirm you flashed correctly:SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005
RADIO-3.22.20.177. Now power down the device again and boot to recovery by pressing home + power.
7.1 In recovery, check that it works correctly (no lag, no crashes, functions work properly)
8. Now you can install CyanogenMod 6 and enjoy fast FroYo on your Magic
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Upgrading_from_CyanogenMod_4.2_to_CyanogenMod_5/6
Good luck and hopefully you can restore your device!

Not to thread hijack, but these instructions look well suited to my situation. At step 4.1 I get the error "FAILED (remote: not allow)". How to solve?
These instructions are only for Magic, but..
Post your fastboot details, please.
Hi my magic 32b is stuck on vodaphone splash screen.no fastbiot or recovery.but chargeable via usb and has blue light too.can u show me steps to softunbrick
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sorry, but 32b is out of my area
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
After that, test if you can get to fastboot or hboot (fastboot: back + power, hboot vol down + power). Then report back and search the forum for further help on restoring your device with new SPL & radio & recovery & ROM
Otherwise, if these won't work you could try JTAG.
Hope this helps,

Hello all,
I have been using the super one click method to root my HTC Magic Saphhire 32A.
It works well so far albeit need to alter some SU files in the program. Running of terminal emulator with the command prompt SU confirmed that I have the superuser rights.
Now the problem is whenever I use ROM manager to reboot in recovery, the phone restart, HTC logo shows, then the next screen I see is a big asterisk and a phone image, after this I pressed Home + power, the screen manage to switch to Android system recovery utility, BUT with only 3 options:
1) Reboot system now
2) Apply sdcard:update.zip
3) Wipe data/factory reset
And in the end of the screen, there is one line highlighted in red: E: can’t open /cache/recovery/command
After the phone been rebooted, I switched off the phone. And Pressed vol - with power button, same issue happen too with the asterisk sign shows on the screen. After unrooting it, the phone recovery mode are back to normal with the 3 androids in skates appear on the screen.
Have anyone face the same problem? Any ways to sort this out? I am planning to back up my stock ROM, and wanted to try out some cyanogenmod ROM. I tried Googled and read lots of forum post but left without a solution. Any helps are appreciated! Cheers!
p/s: I am a noob in Android OS. XD
I have the legend and these is a process of booting the recovery from there as update.zip. have you tried renaming the ROM update.zip and flashing it from there?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I fiddled with the ROm manger setting by choosing "delete recovery prior to flashing", and now it makes it worse.
I selected "reboot in recovery" in ROM manager and the phone reboot, but just stuck at the HTC start up screen.
I plugged in the phone while trying another recovery reboot, and it still stuck at the HTC screen, but with a red line on the top saying "fastboot USB". Gosh I think i am going no way with this...
E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/command
Same fault here mytouch 3g unlocked at&t 32b downgraded too cupcake and tried
getting E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/command
home and power button down still cant get you in recovery? you cant flash any other working rom?

Did you flash custom recovery with ROM manager? Or you just rooted the phone with 1 click method?
Sorry for the late reply. I am just back from overseas business trips. I used Clockmod ROM Manager and did a backup, tried reboot in recovery, and the phone rebooted itself but stuck at the HTC logo now.
I can confirm that the phone is rooted with super user permission.
The reason being the phone didn't manage to get into recovery mode might be due to the missing recovery.img in the phone. Pushing the img file to phone through Clockmod didn't work apparently, so I tried command prompt from PC fastboot flash recovery c:\recoveryxyz.img. It failed too with an error remote failed.
I tried using the terminal emulator in the phone and tried pushing the recovery image again and it didn't happen too. Can some one please help? Cheers!
Download ROM manager and you have option that says install custom recovery it will install Clockwork, and you have flash alternative recovery it installs amon ra's recovery i prefer most
Will try it tonight and revert for the result. Cheers!
I have tried flashing alternate ROM through ROM manager and for once it managed to boot into recovery mode. BUT the device hang right after that, I can't select any of the options and have to pull the battery out to force shutdown.
I tried using fastboot flash recovery *.img remotely through my PC while the phone is in fastboot USB mode, and my command prompt stated FAILED (remote: not allow)
Urgh, I think I might have missed something here... Could some one please help? Cheers!
p/s: my objective is to upgrade my stock ROM android 1.5 to cyanogen ROM. Cheers!

OK here is the thing did you chose right model of your phone? HTC magic is 32A and mytouch and something else is for 32B you maybe flashed the wrong one?
Thanks WoblyGoblin for taking your time to help. Yes, I have selected the correct phone model. I chose HTC Magic.
Did you install the recovery?

Please refer to the previous post for more info. Cheers!
Ok here is the solution for you use this guide but download this apk and this recovery.
If you dont have 1.5 android but 1.6 download Terminal emulator from market and when you start it type first:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
Hello mate,
i just tried the method and I am stuck at FlashRec backup recovery image step.
I clicked on backup recovery image, but there is a command prompt that says:" backup FAILED: Could not run command.
FYI, I am running on Android 1.5. On the edge of giving up rooting and loading a custom ROM now and without a MARKET apps on the phone.

And commands that i gave you?
yes mate, have tried flash_image recovery command from the terminal app and tries to restart in recovery without any result.
I have did a few research and read up and found out that I am stuck with the south east asia Magic model without the google based support, with no market apps and it is perfected SPL.
Quite upset by it. LOL!

Since I'm not sure the exact process you took I'd recommend the following:
(its a bit longer procedure to install 1.33.0013d that may help in future if you ever get stuck.. if you never get stuck it will work as well as staying on 1.33.0013 thus no harm)
To anyone else reviewing this this is a procedure from the above specs with clockwork recovery installed to install CM6.1 with a 2708+ kernel
1) choose wipe data/factory reset;
2) plug the phone into your USB and chose 'mount USB storage' from the 'mounts and storage' menu
3) On this post: Get update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip (from the '== Switching from 1.33.0013 to 1.33.0013d ==' section) some background of the 2.22.28.25 SPL and the 1.33.0013/d SPL is also on this thread
4) Get ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_S.zip from either the files section in the 2708+ thread or here (there are other places and kernels that mat work for you but this is a good place to start)
5) put both update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip and ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_S.zip on your sdcard
6) unmount the drive on your PC, and in recovery choose advanced -> Reboot recovery
7) flash update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip
At this point the phone will automatically reboot back into recovery do not attempt to manually reboot; also NEVER pull the battery when flashing an SPL or radio
8) when you are in recovery again choose more go to the mounts and storage menu and choose 'format system' then 'format data'
Now your system is clean, we have switched the SPL and we can re-install cleanly
9) flash update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip
10) flash ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_S.zip

can't flash update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip (bad)
Hi,
I know this is an older post but, I have the same phone and am having the same problem.

I also unlocked with s1c, downloaded ROM manager and flashed CWM recovery. I also tried to flash update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip which reported successful but then got stuck in a bootloop on the splash page. The only thing the OP tried that I didn't was flashing a different kernel. I've tried multiple time in both CWM and RA recovery with the same result and having to restore from my Nand backup.
Like a good noob I've been scouring xda and the web for solutions with clear instructions. Was delighted to find this post and instructions that obviously worked for another device with specs just like mine.
I've read and reread the instructions and the linked post, followed them exactly but when I get to the part where I flash update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip I get:
"can't open update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip (bad)"
"Installation aborted"
I've tried twice with two different SD cards redownloading the zip each time, same result. I've searched the forums but can't find anything that would give me a clue as to why.
I'd really like to run cyanogenmod 6.1 on this phone but nothing seems to work (at least I haven't bricked it yet)
Can I (should I) skip the update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip step? I'd really like to be able to use fastboot though. Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance
~Paddy Wack
So after closer examination I found the update-1_33_0013-to-1_33_0013d_S.zip from the link above is corrupted. I found a good version on an external site (megaupload) for anyone following the proceedure above, just google the filename to find an uncorrupted version.
Otherwise everthing worked fine, except after booting the new spl it rebooted into the reset rom. I had to go through setup and reinstall ROM manager to reflash cwm recovery and go from there.
Thanks for the useful and reliable instructions all.
Paddy

My MT4G won't start - shows the startup logo and then doesn't do anything else.
If I power cycle + volume down, I get to this diagnostic (?) screen.

Tried the recovery, factory default - nothing works (recovery shows me red triangle, factory default shows some progress bar on green background and then after it boots situation is the same.
I tried clearing the SD and copying PD15IMG.zip to it then restarting, says "parsing [SD ZIP]" and shows [1] RADIO_V2, if I update it shows some progress bar, and after the restart - still stuck... if I choose "no" it just allows me to boot which again doesn't do me any good.
ADB won't recognize the device.
How do I go from here?

Seems like your answer is how to root a working device - or am I not reading this right?
Similar problem I have after trying to flash a different ROM.
Download a fresh ROM to your SD card. Go to recovery(power button plus volume down) wipe cache/factory default, then wipe cache and dalvik. Do this 4 or 5 times. Then attempt to install the ROM.
My phone acts like a crack head for some reason and I have go through this WHOLE process 5 or 6 times to get it to fully load and work if I flash a new ROM.

What's dalvik? When I reset to factory, nothing seems to happen.
Do this 4 or 5 times. Then attempt to install the ROM.

Any good link / instructions for that?
Thanks!
Quick update to the above ("lost me there") message:
I saw this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289 which has stock recovery images, but since adb won't recognize the device, it's not a big help (again, I might be missing something).
What exactly were you doing when this occurred? Dos you install a recovery from rom manager?
Hold the power button and volume down. Then use the volume button to scroll down to recovery. Hit the power button to select it.
Next you'll use the track pad to select items.
1. Wipe cache/factory
2. Wipe just the cache
3. Go to advance and wipe dalvik
Do those 3 steps a few times.
To install the Rom.
Choose the option "install zip from SD" find the Rom you put on there and select it. After its done installing DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE! Let it sit 5 minutes then restart. I noticed on mine if i back out right after install I have some lag and the damn thing will boot loop.

when flashing the PD151IMG from the bootloader, did you get any fail-PU errors?
The PD15IMG.zip is probably corupted.

Or you might not/or corupted part7-xxxxxxxxxx.bin

I don't think he has clockwork on his phone. Read the first post carefully

You dont have to have clockwork. Just use adb to push the file into the phone and that should work.

Hello all!
Please help me
I have pretty good understanding of rooting procedures and custom roms, I have put custom roms on about 10 different phone models, including one previous HTC (CHA CHA)
Tried to flash custom rom, everything goes ok but the phone displays white logo with htc symbol and stays like that.
I still have access to bootloader and cwm recovery.
Sometimes cwm recovery displays message :
E: cant mount cache:recovery/command
E: cant mount CACHE:recovery/log
e:cant open CACHE:recovery/log
Sometimes it does not show though.
I've read that it may be beacuse of emmc chip which gets damaged during taking the battery off when the phone is working.
What to do now ? I tried flashing different roms but nothing happens, when flashing them from CWM i get no error messages,
but when i reboot I get the white screen with htc logo.
Please help ... ;(

Another curious thing, it says that it is s-on, but I did dev unlock before !?!?!?!
here is complete history of my actions
I got this desire HD from my friend, he wanted me to put some unofficial 4.0 rom on it.
I remember from when I had htc cha cha that you should first do dev unlock.
Trying to do dev unlock, I selected european RUU but ruu update program told me that it can not be upgraded.
Somewhere on forums , I've read that I could just continue with procedure. So I did.
I got the codes, sent them to HTC and they mailed me the bin file.I got the prompt about unlocking on the phones display, i choose to unlock it.
Then i flashed clockwork mod on it via terminal.
Then i downloaded custom rom and flashed it , but i just get white screen.
Bad thing is I have not made backup (
what to do now please help (((
You have to flash the boot.img separately when flashing roms on a HTC dev unlocked device. That's why it doesent start after a flash. Get it relocked and get S-OFF instead. Search "advanced ace hack kit attn1" on goggle and use it.
Get the ruu for your device and run it from fastboot menu then get S-OFF with advanced aace hack kit.

To flash a custom rom with an unlocked bootloader you have to flash the rom in CWM first and then flash the boot.img of the rom in fastboot.
Follow this:
Get the boot.img file from inside the .zip file and place it in the PC, somewhere where u can easily find it.
Put the zip in the sdcard
Boot in CWM. Full wipe and flash the rom
Go to advaced options and reboot bootloader
Toggle to fastboot and plug the phone to the PC (you will see fastboot usb in red)
Open a CMD as admin or Terminal as root in the PC
Navigate in CMD to the folder where the boot.img file is located
Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then reboot, and you should be ok....:good:
