::EDIT:: Solved (see page 3), thanks everyone for their help ::EDIT::
Hi,
My MT4G won't start - shows the startup logo and then doesn't do anything else.
If I power cycle + volume down, I get to this diagnostic (?) screen.
S-off
HBOOT 0.76.2000 (PD1510000)
MICROP 0429
Radio 26.09.04.26_M
Tried the recovery, factory default - nothing works (recovery shows me red triangle, factory default shows some progress bar on green background and then after it boots situation is the same.
I tried clearing the SD and copying PD15IMG.zip to it then restarting, says "parsing [SD ZIP]" and shows [1] RADIO_V2, if I update it shows some progress bar, and after the restart - still stuck... if I choose "no" it just allows me to boot which again doesn't do me any good.
ADB won't recognize the device.
How do I go from here?
Thanks,

Am I missing something?

Seems like your answer is how to root a working device - or am I not reading this right?
Similar problem I have after trying to flash a different ROM.
Download a fresh ROM to your SD card. Go to recovery(power button plus volume down) wipe cache/factory default, then wipe cache and dalvik. Do this 4 or 5 times. Then attempt to install the ROM.
My phone acts like a crack head for some reason and I have go through this WHOLE process 5 or 6 times to get it to fully load and work if I flash a new ROM.

What's dalvik? When I reset to factory, nothing seems to happen.

Any good link / instructions for that?
Thanks!
Quick update to the above ("lost me there") message:
I saw this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289 which has stock recovery images, but since adb won't recognize the device, it's not a big help (again, I might be missing something).
What exactly were you doing when this occurred? Dos you install a recovery from rom manager?
Hold the power button and volume down. Then use the volume button to scroll down to recovery. Hit the power button to select it.
Next you'll use the track pad to select items.
1. Wipe cache/factory
2. Wipe just the cache
3. Go to advance and wipe dalvik
Do those 3 steps a few times.
To install the Rom.
Choose the option "install zip from SD" find the Rom you put on there and select it. After its done installing DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE! Let it sit 5 minutes then restart. I noticed on mine if i back out right after install I have some lag and the damn thing will boot loop.

when flashing the PD151IMG from the bootloader, did you get any fail-PU errors?
The PD15IMG.zip is probably corupted.

Or you might not/or corupted part7-xxxxxxxxxx.bin

I don't think he has clockwork on his phone. Read the first post carefully

You dont have to have clockwork. Just use adb to push the file into the phone and that should work.

Hi,
I feel very bad asking but can you please help me with my Magic(32A) - Rogers.
Here is the story,
I bought the phone on ebay and the seller indicated that he rooted the phone before he sold me. So I thought okay as its rooted I can go to fast boot and just apply update.zip. So I did the below
1. switched off the phone
2. pressed home + power on and went to fast boot
3. did clean swipe
4. applied update.zip
It applied the custom rom(CyanogenMod 32a) and after that I am stuck on Roger's boot-up screen. So after this I removed my battery and I tried to going to fastboot and clicking Nandriod v2.1.1 restore and I get this error "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkop1". After that I did wipe and tried to apply restore but can "Error running nandriod restore. Restore not performed".
Can you please advise me of any options I have to restore my magic back.
Thanking you
FD
If you where not flashing the SPL you "should" still be ok if you can get into fastboot.
If you can just try to apply the ROM again, you might want to download another copy or different ROM (Hero maybe).
Clinton
do me a fav and power on holding down the vol down. see if you go into fastboot. if you do then you are not bricked. if so, see what your radio and spl is plus check if your (s) is off. if so you are rooted and you flashed the wrong board rom. if its on then your seller lied and you are not rooted. if so fallow the rooting guides that are posted here. if you need ne help just pm me and i will apply my skills the best i can. i want all to be rooted and experience the true right of freedom. lol. fosho. . . .
Partial hope
When I power it on and hold volume down I can get into fastboot mode and here is what I can see on the screen

Thanking you

ok ?. did you buy it rooted so you didnt have to do ne thing?? does it have RAv recovery or cm's recovery??
Thank you rocking_mod I was able to restore my phone. Here is what I did
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
And finally now the phone works again. Enough of action for one day.
Thanks again.

I'm guessing the ROM you downloaded was not compatible with your phone. As a side note, do NOT apply the Rogers update ontheir web site. It will upgrade your SPL to the dreaded perfect version.
I got the same error when I first apply the hofoion108.zip. I happened to press apply again somehow, and it had no errors at the second time. My phone can start with that rom later on.
I need help, i am in same situation as you freedonkey, but i don't know where to get the files you reffer to:
1. downloaded HoFo mod to renamed it to update.zip and copied it to SD card
2. used a recovery img and did a fast boot and loaded the img
3. after the reboot did a clean wipe
4. loaded the HoFo rom from the recovery mode.
The HoFo mod and which recovery image should i use and where to get it ?

ps: I am not sure, but i dont know what model is mine (i am kind of a newbie :/) i think it should be Rogers, but not sure, bought it in Portugal blocked to TMN phone company.
I also "soft-bricked" my Magic when installing a new ROM. I had wrong radio and didn't wipe before trying to install - all I was left was the HTC boot splash.
I was then, after a few days of reading & thinking, able to restore the device! I had bought it used so I had no warranty.
I used ADB to check out if the device was alive or dead. I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata) and flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6. After that I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel. It worked! After that (for a month) I've been playing with CM6 nightlies and RC's.
If you don't want root capablities, just the original ROM, there should be good info on that. But if you do, I would recommend to follow CyanogenMod instructions from their wiki - they're helpful and easy to follow.

Hey again Kantii,
I am sorry i am bit newbie, I figure out my phone is still alive sthoughout ADB as u did, but i don't know for sure how to:
1- I wiped everything that was left (kernel, boot, system and userdata)
- I actuall wiped it after i turned the phone on with Home+off buton, does that inclued kernel and system wipe ?
2- flashed new radio that would work with CM5/6
- CM = Cyanogen Mod ??? which of these files u recomend to me ? (Both radio and CM5/6 ?)
3- I flashed Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery, a 1.6 Donut ROM, gapps and new kernel
- Is Amon_RA 1.71 Recovery compatible with any HTC MAgic ???
I am really newbie about all this so I would appreciate all details! :|
thanks a lot for everything so far anyway
Sorry for long time no reply! I had not checked my mailbox!
You should wipe them in fastboot:
1. Turn your phone on by pressing back + power until you are in fastboot & see the skating droids. Another method to do this is turning the phone on by pressing volume down + power and then the back key.
2. Connect the device to your pc (make sure you see FASTBOOT USB on the phone display) and run CMD
3. type "fastboot devices" and check if your phone is plugged in correctly and you see the device ID.
4. Now you can wipe them correctly with fastboot:
4.1 type "fastboot erase [system/cache/userdata/boot/kernel/recovery all separately]" (without brackets etc, they are here to make reading easier)
4.2 Download:radio http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fi...es/?download=Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17.img
SPL http://briancrook.ca/android/3.22/hboot-1.33.2005.img
recovery http://rapidshare.com/files/387932922/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H-cyan.img4.3. Move the downloaded files to C:\ (and if you want, rename to Radio.img and Hboot.img and Recovery.img) so it is easier to use them. After that type "cd.." in cmd repeatedly until you are in C:\
5. Now you should be able to flash the radio, SPL and recovery images:
5.1 Type "fastboot flash radio Radio.img"
5.2 Type "fastboot flash hboot Hboot.img"
5.3 Type "fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img"
5.4 In each step wait until fastboot says it has finished - if you won't, you have to start everything again or may brick your device.
6. Now in your phone press menu to power down it. Then boot again to fastboot to confirm you flashed correctly:SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005
RADIO-3.22.20.177. Now power down the device again and boot to recovery by pressing home + power.
7.1 In recovery, check that it works correctly (no lag, no crashes, functions work properly)
8. Now you can install CyanogenMod 6 and enjoy fast FroYo on your Magic
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Upgrading_from_CyanogenMod_4.2_to_CyanogenMod_5/6
Good luck and hopefully you can restore your device!

Sorry, but 32b is out of my area
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
After that, test if you can get to fastboot or hboot (fastboot: back + power, hboot vol down + power). Then report back and search the forum for further help on restoring your device with new SPL & radio & recovery & ROM
Otherwise, if these won't work you could try JTAG.
Hope this helps,

It says Backup FAILED: could not run command
Is there any other way to root it?
make sure you are on the cupcake update (1.5) if you aren't downgrade. Im assuming you have a mytouch 3g so go to this link and do what it says. Then do the one-click method.
I'm on cupcake (Android 1.5) already. Do I still need to do the "unroot" first?

Last night I decided to do unlock and root, followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202883 , it worked, then I put [ROM] Alien ★ Build #3, didnt work, then I tried [ROM] CherryBlur v1.4d and I think wiped cache?
After it was done my phone doesn't start anymore.
It's stuck at Moto screen and screen blinks.
I tried fruit cake, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right.
Any help is appreciated, I'm out of ideas.
1. Does your phone say "unlocked" in the upper left hand corner of the black screen with the red "M" on it?
2. Does the circle around the "M" pulsate at all (in other words - does it show the boot animation?)
3. When you say that the screen blinks, would it be safe to say that it is actually rebooting, getting the same spot, and rebooting again?
4. What recovery mod are you using?
The answers to those questions will greatly assist in finding a solution to your problem. My guess would be that you are in a boot loop, which is not a brick. Boot up the phone while holding the volume down button. When you see the word "Fastboot", hit volume down until you see "Android Recovery", then hit the volume up buton.
Wipe Data
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Reboot the same way and get into Android Recovery.
Install Zip from SD Card
Choose Zip
Point recovery to the ROM of your choice
Install it
Reboot
Win
You probably just didn't wipe data, cache, and dalvik before installing the ROM, and got yourself into a boot loop because of it.
DK
thanks for reply,
1. yes it says unlocked
2. it doesn't pulsate, no animation, screen just go blank for 2 sec, then back to M logo
3. not rebooting
4. not sure?
when i hold volume down I can access the menu..
when i click "android recovery" it shows green android robot with exclamation mark in triangle.
It sounds like you have the stock recovery,

You need to reinstall RomRacer's recovery from the link provided in the response above this one.
There is a step in installing a new recovery that is often not followed, and that is manually removing the file...
/system/etc/install_recovery.sh
A quick look at RomRacer's thread shows that he didn't include this step in the install process of the recovery.
Basically, if you don't remove that file, when you boot up your android, it is going to flash the stock recovery over the recovery you have installed. For the time being... follow the instructions on RomRacer's thread to install his recovery, then boot the phone into that recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, reboot into recovery again and install the ROM of your choice.
This should break your boot loop and let you get into the phone. Luckily for you, most ROMs (all of them I believe) have the /system/etc/install_recovery.sh removed from them, so you don't have to worry about removing it yourself (unless you flash back to a stock ROM).
Good luck, let us know what happens.

You need to download moto-fastboot to your PC. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092). Extract the moto-fastboot zip to the root of your C drive. (C:\moto-fastboot).
Download the recovery file you need from the thread. The file you need is not the zip file. You need the .img file. Download one of the following if you are AT&T:

If you are not AT&T, download the relevant International file, etc.
Place the image file in your moto-fastboot folder.
Open a cmd prompt on your PC ( Start - Run - cmd - Enter).
Reboot your phone, and press volume down button. When you see Fastboot on the screen, press volume up button. Connect Phone to PC via USB.
Type the following at the command prompt (see this thread again http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500):
cd C:\moto-fastboot
moto-fastboot devices (You should see your device number. This is just a check to make sure your phone is being seen)
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-atrix2.img
moto-fastboot reboot
You should now be able to boot into recovery.
I'm on AT&T,
does it matter which img (colors?) to download?

Make sure you're specifying the correct path.
Wherever you placed moto-fastboot, make sure you're placing that in first.
Ex: If you placed it in C,
cd C:\
cd C:\moto-fastboot
moto-fastboot devices
If you're still seeing an unrecognized command, make sure you don't have any spaces or extra characters in whatever you named it.
Once you see your device is recognized, follow what CaelanT has said.
I'm a bit confused now...
Your original post says that you followed instructions found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202883
That means you've used fastboot to unlock the device and you've used fastboot to flash tenfar's recovery. Also.. that guide (as well as RomRacer's) both neglect to have you remove /system/etc/install_recovery.sh.
Anyway... go into the same directory you were in when you were following those instructions. That directory has fastboot in it. Put RomRacer's recovery in that folder, then follow romracer's instructions to install it.
After you have RomRacer's installed, boot into Android recovery and wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache, then flash a ROM. Done.

Got it working with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Thank you so much guys.
Now I have CherryBlur v1.4d.
Just wondering how it happened, so I won't do the same mistake again.
If I want to install new ROMs, do I have to-
Wipe Data
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik ?
before and after?

Before you install a new ROM, always Wipe Data, Cache, and Dalvik. At times when you upgrade a ROM you need to do that as well - not always though. The Authors usually say when they release an update whether or not you need to wipe data, cache, and dalvik, so just look for it.
Now that you are running RomRacer's recovery, you can backup your phone. So before you try something new, its always good to backup since you can just restore later if you need to.
Enjoy the ROMs, there are a bunch of food ones available in the Dev section, and a pre-beta of CM7 in the general section.

Fastboot won't work >256MB. It will work with smaller, and if you use fastboot you should replace all moto-fastboot comands with just fastboot.
Motorola gave us the ability to write > 256MB with moto-fastboot.

That's where I pointed you to with added instructions. Click thanks...............that will take less time than I took to post instructions.
Also, good rule of thumb when flashing a ROM is:
Wipe Dalvik
Wipe cache
Factory/data reset
Flash ROM
Wipe Dalvik
Wipe cache
Factory data/reset
Reboot
For Kernels:
Wipe Dalvik
Wipe cache
Flash kernel
Wipe Dalvik
Wipe cache
Reboot
It may not be needed all the time, but it takes a couple of minutes, and can save you many headaches along the way!
Cheers!
<edit> It really pays to read the dev posts more than once, and follow any links, reading those posts more than once. All the info 99% of us need is already on the forums. It is just not read and/or followed in the rush to balk phones up most of the time. I have done pretty much every mod on the Atrix forums multiple times. Only once have I had a panic, and that was actually last night flashing back to Aura from CM7 when I got stuck in a boot loop. I found the resolution which was to fastboot -w, and then flashed the boot.img from Aura and was good to go. Found all the help I needed in these forums.
Actually, I pointed him there first, I win! So thank me too. jk

<edit> post deleted......wtf ever.....next time I'll let you write the instructions for someone who obviously was struggling.
I'm pretty new here but as I documented the process of modding my own phone I thought I'd share it with you. I didn't invent any of these processes and this information is available from many different sources. I've tried to credit any source material that I've used verbatim. I am by no means an expert.
Please reply back with any corrections and I'll be happy to edit the post.
This guide describes how to take a HTC Desire HD (mine was fully patched with OTA updates including Sense 3.0), unlock it and install CyanogenMod onto it. It worked for me but it might not for you. I don't take any responsibility for you turning your phone into a brick!
Pro Tips
Remember, in any steps requiring the phone to be powered off, just give it a minute to make sure that it is properly turned off.
Understand what's happening! If you get what's going on, you've more chance of fixing it if it goes wrong. This process describes how to use HTCs official method to unlock the bootloader. This allows you to change the operating system on the phone. The phone contains a recovery system which we an engineer can boot into to replace the main operating system if it becomes unbootable. We are going to replace this stock recovery system with a modified one which allows us do fiddle about with the phone's internal partitions. Once we have the modified recovery system in place we use it backup the existing phone operating system and replace it with a modified one. We can also use it to restore the original one again if things go wrong.
Read all of the instructions properly first! Don't go off half-****ed!
As far as I'm aware you can't reverse the official HTC bootloader unlock (i.e put your phone back *exactly* as it was) and it may effect your warranty. You have been warned!
Unlock the Bootloader
INFO: You can use the HTCDEV unlock bootloader method from HTC as an 'official' means of unlocking the bootloader. Confused? Check out the official site: http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ I'm not going to describe it step by step here because HTC do that quite well enough themselves.
Quick tip. If when going from one step to another on the HTC website you come to a white screen, that may be because you've been logged out. Just go back to the first page, log in again, then go back to the last step you completed.
Another quick tip. Make sure you properly install everything HTC tells you to. We'll need it all later...
Installing recovery mode
INFO: The stock recovery mode itself is pretty basic and can't do much, so we need to replace it with a custom recovery image.
We're going to use the clockworkmod recovery image which you grab from here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4518713/archive/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-ace.zip (originally seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118865)
Make sure that the fast boot mode on your phone is disabled. You can find this in your power settings menu.
If the phone is connected via a USB cable then unplug it.
Power off the phone using the power button and leave it alone for a minute.
INFO: To flash the new recovery image to the phone, you need to reboot the phone into the bootloader so that you can select a new image to boot. The bootloader is known as HBOOT.
Boot into HBOOT by holding down the 'volume down' button and pressing the power button.
By default FASTBOOT is selected so just press the power button to access it.
Attach the USB cable and note that FASTBOOT changes to FASTBOOT USB
On your PC open cmd prompt and cd to the platform-tools directory of the android sdk. Mine is at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
Copy the .img file from the clockworkmod zip file we downloaded earlier to the platform-tools directory. Rename it recovery.img
Go to your command prompt and issue this command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
INFO: The recovery image will then be written to your phone, and as long as everything went well you'll get a message saying OK.
Ensure that BOOTLOADER is selected in the HBOOT menu and press POWER button to select it. Now you're back at the HBOOT menu.
Use the volume buttons to highlight RECOVERY and press the power button to select it. After showing you the HTC logo, the phone should boot into recovery mode!
Backing up your phone
Using the volume buttons to select move to the 'backup and restore' option in the menu. Use power to select and use the backup option. This backs up your current phone setup to the SD card.
Select power off to turn off you phone. Leave it a few secs - select reboot system now.
When your phone is backup and running, mount it in mass storage mode and navigate to the root of your SD card. See the folder called 'clockworkmod'? copy that along with everything in it to your computer and put it somewhere safe. That's your backup. If needs be, you can use this backup your phone back to the original state!
Installing CyanogenMod (other mods may vary)
Mostly taken from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide with some extra stuff that messed with me when I tried to do it.
Download the latest version of CyanogenMod from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=ace
Download the Google Apps for the device. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and the power button to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
And the option to wipe the Dalvik cache
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Choose zip from sdcard
Select the Google apps zip
These extra steps seem to have been required by people in this thread. All credit due to marsdta and theluckster for their suggestions. I've edited this guide to include the instructions here where they are more visible.
On your computer extract the ROM zip (e.g. update-cm-7.1.0-DesireHD-signed.zip) and there should be a file inside it called boot.img. This should be flashed automatically, however for some reason via the HTCDEV method it is not.
To do it manually, you need to enter fastboot mode, as per the instructions above:
Boot into HBOOT by holding down the 'volume down' button and pressing the power button.
By default FASTBOOT is selected so just press the power button to access it.
Attach the USB cable and note that FASTBOOT changes to FASTBOOT USB
Then on your PC, in the directory you extracted the zip file run:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Click to collapse
Once the installation has finished, select Go Back to get back to the main menu, and select the Reboot system now option. The phone should now boot into CyanogenMod.
Now wait for what seems like an incredibly long time with the phone showing the 'htc' screen.
INFO: The phone should now boot into CyanogenMod!
Restoring your phone - When things go wrong
OK, so you flashed a bad mod. Time to restore.
First up, put the backup you made in the previous step onto the root of your SDcard (if it isn't already there). Then, I came across this video which seems to explain things pretty well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUYGe8mmNWU
The basic gist of it is, boot into recovery mode, format the cache, data and system partitions, wipe the Dalvik cache, then restore the backup from your SD card.
Wow thanks a lot!
I personally have 1 problem:
Step 12 of the "installing recovery mode" when i type in the command in command prompt is says:
'error: cannot load recovery.img'
I placed it in the same folder as fastboot en renamed it "recovery.img".
I unlocked the bootloader succesfully btw..
Any thoughts?
I think you should contemplate using attn1's ace hack kit to gain bootloader unlock instead of voiding your warranty.

Well I've already unlocked the bootloader through htcdev.
But tried the Attn1's as well...ended up saying:
/data/local/tmp/goldcard.img: cannot open for read: No such file or directory
starting downgrade...
** The phone will now reboot into HBOOT.
** It will then check the file just sent.
** If everything is okay, the phone will
** prompt you to continue by pressing
** VOLUME UP. It will reboot, flashing twice.
The phone did not prompt me to continue by pressing volume up.
When i start clockwork recovery it states i should root my phone...
So a lot going wrong and i can't figure out what..
how long the htc screen? I'm waiting for a looooong time
Thanks for the tutorial. I've followed the instructions and managed to unlock the bootloader and install ClockworkMod, however after flashing CM7 and rebooting it is stuck on the H3G boot screen (isn't flashing CM7 supposed to overwrite the boot logo?). I'm trying to flash:
update-cm-7.1.0-DesireHD-signed.zip
gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
I've double checked /data, /system, /cache and Dalvik-Cache have been wiped before flashing but still no avail
Here are the versions from the bootloader:
***UNLOCKED***
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0029
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot

I am able to restore the backup, but flashing any other ROM just doesn't boot.
The guide is missing one key step . Flashing the boot image.
So after flashing your from boot back into boot loader and flash your roms boot.img.(just copy it over to your fast boot file)
Then run the command
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot . Done.
You'll have to do this every time you flash different roms. 4ext has a nice feature of doing this for those that have HTC unlocked you should try it out
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
Awesome, thanks marsdta! It is working now, good work!

I didn't set notifications on this post and forgot it existed till today. I've updated the guide with the information posted by marsdta and theluckster to make things clearer. Sorry about any confusion caused by missing that step out.
the boot screen shows cyanogen(mod)7 instead of the regular HTC sign!! Following each and every step I landed up here. And now I am stuck, cuz this boot screen has been there for like half-an hour....does it mean something is wrong or does it take this much time to load first???
Hello,
for HTC dev unlocked bootloader (about what is added after step 15 in "installing cyanogen" phase) : it seems that the boot.img must be flashed before installing the .zip from sdcard.
I got stuck for that. Could be worth to make it clear.
Great tutorial anyway, thank you !

It shouldn't matter. I've seen people do it both ways and it worked fine for them.
@ash win. Your in a boot loop. Did you do a full wipe before flashing? Could be just a bad flash. Go back and reflash the rom and boot.img. you should also verify the md5hash to make sure yous didn't get a corrupt download file.
Just finished the tutorial, works perfectly. Thanks for writing it.
Does this unlock you from the network, i.e. is this the alternative to paying £15 for an unlock code?
I do understand this is for modding and flashing to a new ROM, but I am wondering if it also unlocks the phone from your network (or maybe that is IMEI based).
This is not for any illegal purposes, just I fancy a new ROM and I am now out of contract, so happy to experiment with flashing.
