My mss picture viewing is really blurry. Is there a way I can enhance the picture view in MSS?
It might be your operator ask them about mms

A bit more info will be of great help.
FW version, service provider, mms app will all be helpful.
MMS viewing
I am using Xperia X10i, Droid 2.1.. Using with Tmobile-USA. I am not using any MSS app or anything. Straight thru the Messesing. I can send & Received, but when I try to view the images, it's so blury..
Thank you,
It's a TMO USA issue. They don't recognize the phone as it isn't listed in their database and the image defaults to 120x160.
I've tried to 'fix' the default mms app by decompiling it and recompiling after changing some settings but haven't had any luck. I've found that GO SMS Pro (free from the market and can replace the default messaging app) will allow 640x480 images. I've also tried the default 2.1 Cyanogenmod mms apk and was able to receive something like 2048x1536 sized images but the app looks pretty ugly as none of the contact pictures show up.

If I take a photo at 5 MP and try to send it via MMS, the phone compresses the photo, but 3G $hits itself and the photo fails to send.
But if i use a substantially smaller photo (100kb or less) its fine.
WTF google... does anyone know how to fix this?
Note I'm using ERE54B firmware and new radio, and I've tried 36B and even as far back as 27 with the same problem... I havent tried GPRS (2G) yet.
try handcent sms that cured mine and its free in the market !!
Yes I'm also having the same issue. The problem is that the photo isn't being compressed enough to be able to be sent (I believe most networks have a 300kb MMS size limit, although this may vary). The only way I can send an MMS here on T-Mobile UK is to either take the photo at 1 MP or take normally and then crop the photo which reduces the file size dramatically.
Is everyone having this issue using stock SMS\MMS app?

Yep same problem! I can receive and send small pictures but the default Messaging app doesn't compress the images or it does and doesn't compress it enough...
Thanks for the help guys. I worked out that only Handcent will work on Optus in Australia, and on the lowest setting (200kb).
Pretty poor really that the native app doesnt have allowance to compress photos right down like Handcent....
this seems to be a somewhat common problem. the messaging application does not resize or compress photos (enough) so they can be sent as mms. i can send photos taken inside the messaging app. and i can send saved iphone photos that have been sent to me. but i cannot send photos taken using the camera app as an mms.
does anyone know of a fix?
use Handcent SMS ... allows you to specify a max MMS message size.
i know. i tried it last night. but i dont see why i should have to use a 3rd party application when the stock messaging app should work.

I don't like using 3rd party apps for something that should be built-in either, but that's the workaround I've been using until there's a fix.
My friend has an iPhone 4. When he sends me a pic through mms i get "your phone is not compatible with this message type or size. portions of this message will not be displayed". he is just sending a picture he took not anything else. i reboot and ask him to resend and still no luck. the only thing that does work is when he zooms in on the pic then takes a screenshot of it then sends it to me.
Does anyone know why this happens? its pretty annoying.
i attached a screenshot of how it looks
Lol, check the size of pictures. I think mms only supports 640x to 320x
I have this probleme too when I send one mms picture to a old phone. I resize and works

Maybe try a different sms app like GoSMS? That's what I've been using and haven't had any issues with mms... plus it allows me to zoom into pictures which the stock text messaging app wouldn't allow.
That makes sense. It would be great if there wasn't any ristriction. Or like if would automatically resize the picture before it revives or something lol.

I also use handcent. It gives me the same problem. I'm gonna try the application you mentioned. Hopefully it works for me.

Interesting.... I've received pictures from my brothers iPhone 4 just fine. That's using the stock text messaging app.
So everytime I get a mms the picture wants to open is slideshow, which is really annoying. Has anyone found a way to make it open in gallery like normal? I don't want to long press and save and all that. I just want it to open in gallery when I touch it.
Same happened if I try to send a pic. It never sends and when I click on pic it opens like it is a video.

i downloaded handcent for just opening and sending pictures, it doesnt compress them as much when sending them as well. test it yourself, send a pic to yourself, see how low the quality is, now send a pic to yourself with handcent
I wondered if it was me only! Had the same issue. I had been using handcent for almost a year and thought I'd try the 'messaging' app as I like the split screen in landscape mode. . . Because of this wired slide show issue and the white background setting never really working and the inconsistent send issue (with mms) I switched back to handcent.
Works well! Note: I had one or two mms no send issues with handcent (overall huge reduction from 'messaging' - which was near 99%) - I added '80' as my mms port in apn settings. . . I don't think I have had a send hang since.

Recently I have been having issues with people sending me pictures and them not showing up. I get the mms but the picture shows up as an image icon with an orange triangle with an ! in the middle. I can save the attachment and the picture will show up as a thumbnail in the gallery but when I open it the picture shows for a second then shows an icon of a ...person maybe...with a lightning bolt. Any idea? I was thinking maybe the image was too large but that doesn't make much sense since you can't send huge pictures via mms. Any insight is appreciated.
I am having the exact same problem. Can't find a solution anywhere. Any ideas yet?
The mms apn setting is not correct. I'm on Telus and under my apn settings type is says default, mms with NO spaces.
If there is a space between the comma and mms then picture messaging is broken.

I've never messed around with the APN settings. Other MMS come in just fine. I just read it might be affecting MMS received by iPhone users on the new iOS7. Can anyone else confirm this?
Nope. I get pic messages from 3 different people all running iOS 7 on a 4s,5, and 5s with no issues
