however, android is far superior in terms of flexibility and overall user experience, so more likely I'll get sgs2 soon.

After Customs Duty and Shipping, you are looking at 42K for this device, you are better off ordering it from the UK and get it for 38K.

Alright so I apologize in advance if this is somewhere on the forum already, and seeing as Google is being uncooperative and giving me a great number of suspected US release dates I was just wondering if anyone had any inside info on when this godly phone will launch in Canada/with which carriers/what cost will be?
I'm finally off contract and wanna dump my POS BBerry Storm for it!
it doesn't matter, because once it's released in the US you can buy it unlocked online...
That would be great if I wasn't on a student's budget (engineering in ontario ain't cheap)

WOOO $8500 + books a year in tuition!
I'm so selling my Galaxy S for the S2. The S2 just looks like a very good upgrade over the first Galaxy S
I would LOVE to have the date, because I've been holding off upgrading my desire for a few months and would love for it to come to Telus (hopefully first!). But if not, I would have no problem jumping ship to Bell to get this beautiful marvel of technology!!

How about 38 grand a year in tuition... I have to get all my money from "recycling" my gadgets. Like buy a couple phones on contract, sell em off contract for a little extra profit and use the net gain to buy say a desktop or something. Or sell old desktop (old as in 6 months) and use that money to buy phone+laptop. Because of this cycle I don't have one computer or phone for more than 6 months at a time.
Hoping for Windmobile / MobilityCity to bring them into Canada
then we'll have the proper 1700+2100 version
the AT&T 850/1900 version is available for pre order already in many sites

Yea I wouldn't complain about under 10k/yr in tuition... that's a bargain even at state schools in the US.
Anyway, I'm just waiting for T-mobile's version so I can use it on WIND... I really don't want to have to switch to Bell/Telus/Rogers/Fido to be able to use the SGS2.

Unless somebody has some inside info, I'd just suggest watching Samsung Mobile Canada's Twitter feed.
Right now they are totally focused on the release of the Nexus S this week, so I wouldn't expect them to give a release date for the S II until that noise settles down.
Gah, can't wait. My old HTC Touch (running Android) is dying a little more each day. Almost useless now.

Actually, the latest builds people have cooked (and not with 1.5, 2.2.1!) actually run pretty damn smooth. It's come a long way. I have the Bell version of the touch which is at 400Mhz. I doubt the 200Mhz touch would be enjoyable, though.
In fact, I keep checking this forum for the latest SII news from the taptalk app. Some of the more demanding applications don't work very smooth (ex: the official twitter app with it's moving clouds background), and there always seem to be random bugs with different builds (no audio input for voice search or guitar tuners for example) but people are still, surprisingly, churning out more and more refined editions.
If it wasn't for the fact that the top button on my phone was broken (yeah, critical, I have to keep the phone's screen on and therefore the phone plugged in all the time, hence I can't for for the S II to come out!) it would be a pretty damn usable in most respects.
Can't wait for it either!!! But at the same time, in an effort to improve my Desire, I have endless hours of fun trying out new roms, exotic roms!! Hopefully this thing will come close to the kind of support that thing has...
Resisting the urge to "insert stupid random comment here"... I want to say everything in the HTC EVO Vs. iPhone 4 video only make the iPhone zombie want an SGS II (making him smart and saving someone's life!)

I figure you will have to wait for the NS buzz to cool down and then they will pop this out of no where for the rest of the bunch that didnt get the NS.
You will see this in end June or July to fight the iPhone 5 release, IF Apple is releasing it in July, otherwise it will be Sept.
Either way I don't care... I want the SGS II, NS to me is old tech....

What happens to us regular folk who don't buy a new phone every year?
answer: We thrive in our galaxy and travel to the EVEN bigger one (III) after another cycle has passed!
Damn nice, its not available here yet
I ordered a SGS2, sold my SGS1 to someone at work but my SGS2 was delayed (unit shortages) and I am now stuck with an old Motorola flip phone =/
how do you guys even afford to buy a new phone every half a year
I'll wait for the next Google phone. No more touchwiz crap for me, thanks. No more begging for updates.
Also, while it's clearly a better phone, the differences are too small. ppi density was poor already, now with the bigger screen they should have gone for 540 x 960, like the Sensation.

Really clever guy would have sold SGS 1 just before SGS launch £250 .
Bought O2 PAYG and if it was as many are unlocked sold on Ebay £500 .
Buy PAYG O2 £399 net transfer cost £49 .
If i had thought about it i would have bought more than one O2 for onward sale .
SGS2 has a flashing counter on boot screen better stick with SGS 1

i just got my brand new sgs a couple of weeks ago, after selling my old htc legend, so i'll stick with it for at least one year from now... after i'll master the tehnic of rooting it and all the customizing stuff, maybe then i'll consider upgrading to the new sgs2, but right now i consider it useless for me
only thing i miss from my legend is the sense ui, definetly much more user friendly than the touchwiz stuff, this is the main reason i consider rooting my sgs, i'll just wait for a stable release of sense ui for the sgs and then i'll be completly sattisfied with this awesome phone
heads off to SGS 2 thread tho. no need to make everyone jealous

It is too bad that many of the good devs are jumping ship before we get mature Gingerbread releases and mods.
In a way despite all the whinging we see on here about Samsung they are supporting the device for longer than most of the XDA devs.
The doomsayers were saying Samsung would bail on SGS 2.3 given the SGS2, when in fact it was XDA devs that bailed fast upon SGS2 release. Not that they don't have the right and I appreciate the work they did while they were here.
Lol SGS3 comes out late this year... What will people do who just upgraded to SGS2?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I jut upgraded to 2.3.3 a coupla weeks ago, and I'm content to stay with a 90% cutting edge phone that still outperforms my old iOS Applecrap. It's kinda like having an E46 M3 (last version) versus the the new one. A few performance mods and you're just as good as the stock new one, and most non-gearheads wouldn't notice or care anyway. They'll just be impressed with the notion you own a fast Bimmer.
The money in my case would be better spent on a Honeycomb tablet as a companion to the SGS. Ones like the Asus Transformer look promising in terms of price, performance and battery life over the Asus G50VT laptop I'm typing this on.
I'm not begrudging anyone heading to the next level. Hell, Ill even admit jealousy. It's just that we bought 2 of these since the summer of last year and the shine hasn't worn of just yet, especially since moving to GB. And by the Christmas season, somebody will have raised the bar again. But I'll be still thinking that these are really just phone with a computer along for the ride. And I never upgraded my computers this fast. And stir in that the combined monthly bill is nearly $200 over the initial cost of the damn things. Yup, I'll wait.

Wrong forum for posting about the sgs2 i think...
But since its here, I dont see the point to buy a sgs2 right now unless youre a developer. In the other case it just means having to go back to stock roms and miss out on all the awesome developments that were made for the SGS.
Id rather wait to jump ships until such developments are being made on SGS2 aswell.
Thinking of buying one for the remainder of my contract. X10 is kind of boring me!
Now both devices have 2.3.3, Can anyone make a better comparison of the two? Performance battery etc?
Anyone else made the swap from x10 to galaxy or vice versa?
Ask chiefy009 he did recently!
Imo the galaxy s is a much better phone.
The gpu is awesome (was the best when it was put out and still to this day outperforms many modern gpus.. i.e. adreno 205), the screen is incredible, better call quality, true multitouch
Galaxy S or S2 the way to go. between $400 for Galaxy S and $600 for Galaxy S2, I am inclined to go with S2.
I currently own the sluggish X10i...
galaxy s :no flash or led/camera only 5MP/Slightly lower resolation.display is good but i think you might want to go for something more future proof.Galaxy S is just plain old.not much to gain.go for galaxy s2 or HTC sensation or wait for nexus prime.its your choice though.just trying to help
Could maybe get one off ebay for around £150 if im lucky.
It is tempting for the next 9 months, then see whst available in April/may when my upgrade is available!

lots to gain actually... Like I said the gpu still beats adreno 205 and it is a year older
Also WAY more dev support/custom roms than us.
True multitouch? Maybe some people don't care but I do... I like being able to play games and type without the touch points freaking out

Yeah I was looking at that actually, awesome price. I saw the video of the beta unit and it didn't look that great. I'll wait till it's actually released to pass judgement though, if it's good it'll be my next phone
Just to give you a little bit of advice from a previous owner and I've been through all the stages your considering ..
Had the x10. Bad phone. Sony Ericsson let it down. Don't get me wrong was great at the time but the novelty quickly wore off.
Quickly replaced with the galaxy s1. Brilliant. Lower res camera and screen but I'm sure SE done some sort of pixel combination thing cause the pictures looked slightly blurred at close range (imagine a stretched 4mp picture). The galaxy s1 however gave none of these issues here. Amazin. Everywhere else (literally) the s1 betters it.
Sold it about two months later when I was offered an s2 by orange. Heads up they've kinda shown off other variants (Google Samsung note for one). However, oh. My. God. S2 all the way. Battery amazing, speed even better and the camera and flash are absolutely stunning.
That been said, it's a bit big (wider and taller) than the x10. Result? I've just got myself an x10 mini and sold the s2 cause it's just too big and I'm always scared I'll damage it as a result.
Honest verdict? Second best phone in the world. As much as I hate to admit it, iPhones (purely for their polish and software finishing) are still on the top spot. Get the S2 buddy.
Oh yeah, GPS + the screen on the S2 are AMAZING.

I was mis-informed, it would be £153, plus £59 for the phone.
I have about 8 months left on my contract.
Plan would then be, 600 mins, unlim txts 500mb net, insurance for £42 a month!
Basically if i can sell my X10 for £100.
Ill have paid £113 for a galaxy s2 (£213 -100) And then an extra £7 a month for my contract.
Seem worth it?

1. it's cheap and a power monster.
2. it's not sold out. it's just "booked out". like restaurant is booked fully does not mean all booked customers will go there for sure. i expect 50% people who got the mi phone bookings will place the order.
3. no use for non chinese user. cause few english based developers will have the phone. and a lot of translations, localizations need to be done.
4. quality and delivery time are unknown.

I suspect (or rather, hope) that the Mi2 will manage to find popularity, and maybe even official distribution outside China. There really isn't anything comparable coming to the RoW market at this kind of price point at the moment, so there will be a lot of interest from developers abroad.
I, for one, don't even like Miui, but if I could have that hardware running ported CM10 I'd be happy as a pig in s**t - especially given it's a 4.3" phone at 720p, and AFAIK the only other option is the Sony which is far more expensive and doesn't have the horsepower of the Mi2. I'm not really a fan of big screens, but I do like having all the pixels
Hey, maybe somebody will want to swap a Mi2 for my One X one day :victory:
Thread closed. Please stay on topic about the Atrix 4G in these forums.
Hi there,
First off, I know there's probably a million thread of these and I've read about as much on the web about this but I'm still not satisfied. Which one would be superior in terms of value for the money and quality? Secondly, I plan to use my phone for music so the 16gb limit ont he 4 is a real downside for me, but I guess I could live with it if the nexus 4 is really that much better and worth the money as a lot of fanboys say.
I'd like to hear your opinion!
Thank you,
Crueltyfate
Feature wise note 2 wins
Spec wise OG pro wins
Dev support/latest android updates .. wise nexus 4 wins
so decide yourself
between the Note 2 and Nexus 4 i would go for but if you want development support and having the latest updates directly from Google then the Nexus 4..had a HOX and although a great phone the nexus is one hell of a beast...so my advice go for a nexus
If you listen a lot of music you should definitely get the one x+ it has built in amplifiers and beats audio is not just a gimmick..the sound quality on this phone is a lot better than any other android device....and the 64gb version with the release of the one..has dropped in price so for me if its for music go for HTC....nexus 4 is faster but both devices are quite good and fast!
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA
well I really like the Optimus G as well as the one x plus. Everyone tells me something different and I reallly can't decide. Both phones almost cost around the same where I live so the money isn't really that big of a deal. And yeah I listen to a lot of music but my last phone (current) is a sgs which i custom rommed the **** out of. So it's kind of an upgrade since i got it 2 years ago and I want to make sure I get a good phone for the money.

well I really like the Optimus G as well as the one x plus.

Go for the Nexus 4. I use it for music and it's great. Spotify all day!

Next thread suggestion: Nexus 4 vs. pancakes vs. swimming in the nude. Makes as much sense as any other vs. thread
Next time just keep your mouth shut because it really isn't as funny as it was in your head. If you have nothing to say then say nothing.
Also, the nexus 4 is just about right, except it only has 8 or 16gb which is not enough for my needs. I need at LEAST 32GB. And I don't use spotify or anything like that. That's why the one plus is so appealing, but I'm unsure.
I had the one x before the n4.
The sound on the one x was much better then the stock n4.
However there are various tweaks for the n4 that has made the audio much better than the one x.
I use
Franco kernel
Volume boost +2
Volume gain -5
Xlouder mod - Noozeoxide eizo rewire
After tweaking them to my personal preference music is now much louder, clearer & better balanced than what I got out of my old one x.
That and the custom ROM / kernel development is much better on the n4 than what I got on the one x.
I can't comment on the other devices you are comparing against but I will give praise to the n4 developers.
Be it poor stock screen colours, OK sound. The devs just keep coming up with new things to make this device better

Was this adressed to me? If you need at least 32GB storage wth are you doing on the N4 forum anyway?

I'd rule the One X+ out of this decision tbh because it runs the Tegra 3. That is an absolutely awful chipset when compared to the others.
If you genuinely need 32GB of onboard storage and can't use cloud data or other alternatives, first wait for Google IO just a few days off (they may release a 32GB N4, not likely but still possible) then rule it out if nothing new comes along.
Between the OG and the N2, I'd struggle to decide. I don't know how good development on the OG is or more importantly how long it will last, but at the same time I absolutely hate AMOLED screens, TouchWiz, the feel of the N2's plastic and am uncomfortable with the size of the device; overall I would slightly prefer the OG.
Just pointing out though that while his response may seem a bit rude, @gee2012 is right. There are many dedicated comparison threads in the General forums and it ultimately comes down entirely to personal opinion since no-one can decide for you.
It was adressed to your non topic related 'funny' comment.
And this is true, but it doesn't really matter in which section i'd post it. Most people will vowe for their own device anyway. I was just wondering how they'd compare though, to see if it'd really stand out so I could forget about the 16gb limit. But so far I haven't heard any ground breaking arguements for the 4.
Thank you all for the effort though.
I was planning on waiting on the IO indeed but I suppose the 8gb and 16gb choices are just another marketing thing so I don't think one will come out, but we'll see. And yes I know, I completely agree and I feel the same way, but nonetheless his comment was complete irrelevant and while no-one can indeed decide for me, people's opinions/experience can make the choice better and easier for me. On a side note, I could ofcourse use cloud and stuff like that but in the past I've noticed that it really relies on data connection and therefore I like to keep my music with me and not keep it in a digital harddisk, if you get my point. Right now my money is pointing towards the OG indeed. It's just that there's so many different phones and so many people saying different things that I don't really know whether I will be satisfied in the long rong or just regret another big, useless spend.

You should look more carefully, it wasn't my comment at all (hence I mentioned his username). Of course it matters where you post it because you'd definitely get less biased posts if you posted it in a general forum than you will by posting it here. But yeah, if as you say the N4 isn't particularly cheap in your area compared to other phones then there's not a huge argument in its favour, especially if you don't care about updates or are perfectly happy to flash custom ROMs.

how is the OG better than the nexus spec wise?
@Nigeldg
I did look carefully. I know it wasn't you, it was directed to gee2012. Sorry for not mentioning usernames, I figured it would just post right after his post. And nope, google was originally planning on not selling it here at all (netherlands), but they are here now for 460 euros (nearly 600 bucks, f*ckin outrageous..) or in germany for 470 dollars which is also out the ass for a phone that originally costs 350. So yeah, pretty much all of those phones are around 500 euros in here. And I guess you are right, that's a mistake on my part. But the battle of the phones is still raging on in my mind..
Thank you.

I bought mine at the MediaMarkt Aachen and i think 369 euro`s nowadays for a top device is not too much. I live in the Netherlands too

They're essentially the same phone but the OG has a better camera and expandable storage

If you can find that deal then it seems pretty decent. It's much cheaper in the US but for reference here in the UK it costs £289, equivalent to 340 euros. Either way, given your criteria the N4 probably isn't your best choice.

I know you live there. And yes, I saw it on the german MM site and they don't ship to the Netherlands.
Edit: oh, I can get it for 300 euro's on ebay so I might as well..

I can probably get it for around 340 euro's, which I find also very reasonable so I might just do that. I just hope 16GB will be enough - but on the other side, the 160 bucks I save from not buying the OG is worth more than 16 gigabytes, given that this device is almost as good, or even better. Right?
Thanks.
