So I've lately had one issue with my GS4, it shows signs of the "Loss of Service" bug that the GS2 was having for a while. It randomly drops calls and service completely, sometimes will bounce back to service but sometimes it locks into No Service mode and drains the battery; only fix is to enable and then disable airplane mode. So anyway, I've tried everything to fix it and Sprint wont give me a new phone, and I didn't want to take a refurb since I've had it for only 2 months. The guy at the store usually does everything he can for me, but I understand his hands are tied and can't issue a new phone on the spot, even though it has consistent issues.
Soooo getting to the punch line here, sorry for the backstory. In troubleshooting the phone, we had the battery out and the tech had the phone apart, noticing that the water stickers have been activated. Now I would be honest if I had submerged the phone or gotten it wet in any way, but I truly have not. The only thing I can think of is that my phone is ALWAYS encased in it's Otterbox Defender case, and 80% of the time it's in my pocket. I do tree work, and I kid you not I am drenched in sweat all day every day. Is it possible that the water stickers activated from the sweat and condensation trapped in the case and phone? I usually have to take my case apart to wipe the moisture from in between the cases screen protector and phone. Samsung probably wont issue me a new phone under their warranty now (which was my only option for a NEW phone at this point)...Any input on the possibilities and way to prove it? Also, there is 0 corrosion on the phone, we inspected it very thoroughly. Any help is appreciated, cheers!
Yes humidity or condensation can definitely trigger the water damage sticker. As for what you should do, don't you have insurance, file a claim.

Idk what insurance you have. But it's better than $500-$650. Put it in a bag of rice for a day or two. With the cover off and the battery out. It will get the moisture out.

Apple recently lost a lawsuit for refusing to repair phones that had the faulty sensors which would/could change color due to humidity alone.

Insurance claim is $150.
It is known by the industry the the liquid indicators may at times be too sensitive and are sometimes put it poor locations.
Even with knowing this, it is an easy excuse to not replace your unit. All providers do it.

You could, depending on where you live, claim high humidity as the culprit. In the southern states, where it's usually 70%+ humidity all the time, overly sensitive stickers could be triggered. Where I live, it's usually 80 plus every day. I just checked weather bug now, and at 3am where I live, it's 95% humidity and no rain nearby.
Very good point about the humidity also. I live in rural PA and it does tend to get incredibly humid in the spring and summer. Between the humidity, and having my phone in the pocket of my sweaty carhartt pants encased in an otterbox, I can imagine the moisture would really collect in there. The true test will be getting a new battery and checking it periodically to see if that sticker activates eventually. I will also check the phone sticker in a few weeks, seeing as I went the refurb route to get a new phone. Since getting a brand new one wasn't happening for me, I just did the service exchange and the water damage may have slipped the tech's mind. Now if my phone breaks 5 more times, Sprint will give me a new device, so we'll see what happens. I appreciate all the input, hopefully other people don't have this issue!
We were on a boat but all of our phones were in box for phones and none got wet at all except mind of course. some how it got a tad bit of moisture in the camera and little on top by ear piece...Now only half the screen works....What could be the problem? It sat in rice and zip lock baggie 48 hours in a Hot car and still same issue..Its 3 weeks old and bought from Best buy i dont think they warranty it. only way they would know if theirs water damage is if the battery sticker is red right? cause its Still white.

Try visitng samsung repair shop and ask them to see whats wrong.

First to do at low cost is to dry it in dry air and température set at below 50°C for 24 H.
Back cover and battery removed.
Check if your kitchen oven is well regulated to perform this task at thermostat 0 or 1. (was my case at first position)
If not, put it under the afternoon sun if such in your country and take care of the rain!!!. :laugh:
Then , no effect, go to service.
Go to service, chances are the liquid indicators didn't get triggered.

My girlfriend has owned a Moto X Style for 3 months, which she was unfortunate to drop into the ground outside. It had the original bumper that came with the phone and a tempered glass screen protector on, so there were no visible damage to the phone. As it was slight rainy, the phone got a little wet and when she picked it up, there was already a little water behind the screen, and she turned it off and dried it off and let it sit in rice for about 19 hours to get the moist out. After 19 hours she tried to use it and it looked fine as all the water was gone, but about 1-1,5cm of the screen now does not register touch.
The phone was only on the ground about 20 seconds, so is it covered by the warranty?
The phone does have that nano-coating that is supposed to protect it from water spray.. I believe dropping your phone into the ground once is considered normal wear and tear, or am I wrong?
Hard telling what will happen, I have had zero luck with Moto warranty work. My wife was told 5 weeks for her phone to be replaced on a warranty claim and my moto 360 was denied warranty work for blue spots on the led. So, my guess is if none of the moisture detectors/stickers if it has them are smeared then you might do okay just telling them it stopped working. Don't tell them about the water or the drop. You can see what happens, but moto warranty center in U.S. is now being looked at for a class action lawsuit due to terrible warranty work. I am never buying moto again because of this.

You can try. I've owned 2 moto x phones (1st gen and style) and both have been through far worse situations with no damage to screen. It looks like that fall must've damaged her screen somehow. I don't think this is covered under warranty.
No damage, as a result from water or drops, is covered under the standard warranty. If you have insurance, then you can file a claim. If you wish to try and do a warranty claim, be prepared for it to be denied should any evidence show water damage internally. State it quit working and leave it at that.

If you have insurance on your phone you should read through it to see what is covered. Most cover water damage and cracked screens (lost/stolen usually not). If water damage is covered, most insurance companies will either give you a reconditioned model or in select few cases give money to replace it. If you are really lucky you will get a new one.
This is assuming you took out insurance specifically on your phone. If you are referring to homeowners or renters insurance, you will have to check your policy. Many cover the phone as a result of "acts of nature" or theft/robbery but may not cover accidents of your own doing.

I ended up buying a new screen with the frame and I changed it. It was pretty straightforward as I followed some youtube guides. Phone works perfectly now. I recommend that you buy the new screeen with the frame and everything because it's a real pain to change without the frame.
I had my phone in my breast pocket in my chef jacket, bent over a bucket of pickles, and my phone slipped right into it.
Submerged for just a few seconds, and I had no idea how to deal with water damage. So I left the phone on, rebooted it three times. Speakers fine, headphones fine, charging port okay.
Few hours later battery died, wouldn't turn back on. Researched and found out keeping it on was a mistake.
Disassembled and Soaked it in 99% isopropyl alcohol for a few hours and let it naturally dry after some light brushing to remove corrosion.
It boots, screen is responsive save but for a few dead zones, and the screen is completely off.
What I'm asking is what part is likely the issue. I can obviously replace anything except the board.
Edit: And by the screen being off I mean that it doesn't light up at all. Completely dead

u shud have took ur phone immediately to moto service center nearby u instead of performing anything widout knowing any knowledge about it
now it'll cost u more than directly reporting it to Moto service center

I don't know about where you live, but in the US there are no "Moto Service Centers" anywhere... you have to contact support, wait for an RMA, and send the device off to the, wait a week or two, and get it sent back to you.
To be honest, the real problem here isn't water damage... "pickle juice" is a water, salt, and vinegar solution, in other words a conductor and a mild acid, both of which are very, very bad for electronics. It didn't stand much of a chance unless immediately disassembled and cleaned with a 99% isopropyl solution to remove the contaminants and acid. If this would have been just water, it would likely have been fine. I have dropped Moto G3 and X Pure in water on multiple occasions, even a 5 gallon bucket of marinara once and hosed it off with hot water at the dishwash station, but I digress, the point is water isn't the problem, its the stuff in pickle juice that is.
Honestly, at this point I don't think I would trust any components on this device... at a minimum I would replace the battery and screen assembly, and maybe the USB port assembly as well, and I still would only give it a 2/3 chance of survival. Problem is at this point you are almost better off to replace the device because you would be into it for over $100 (assuming you did it yourself) and still not know for sure if it would be viable for any length of time, or at all for that matter.

A reasonable answer.
I figured pickle juice was the worst thing I could've possibly dropped it in vs almost anything else in the cooler.
I'd rather be down a hundred or so and attempt repair myself, considering that money is tight and a new phone is a decent amount more. Worst case I return the replacement parts if I can and just save for a new phone.

Just wanted to drop an update. 70 dollars bought me a new display setup, and two batteries. One of which was a mis-shipment and was for moto x, not the pure.
I assembled it today and everything has worked so far.
Only permanent damage is the top speaker was blown

Although the girl at the AT&T store told me it was, the product specs (water proof/resistant is normally listed in "Body" section) doesn't list anything about being water proof/resistant. Only way to find out is drop it in water and see what happens. But for me, I'll just trust the specs and conclude that it isn't...
Even if it was listed as water resistant(which its not) because of the way the removable battery is there would be maybe 3 seconds before the phone shorts out. The back cover has no water protection and there are warranty pads(the little things that turn pink with water damage) under the back cover
I dropped my v20 in a puddle at work yesterday. It's isn't water resistant at all. I quickly removed the battery and put it in front of an air conditioner. I got home and dropped it in a bag of rice overnight. The only thing that is wrong now is a dime sized dark area when the screen is lit up just above the headphone jack. I fear of it was in the puddle any longer than 5 seconds it would have been toast.
