MIUI 1.4.2.9 problem - Vibrant General

wrong section i know, the 10post cap before i can post in development section.
im coming from Trigger 3.0.1 and i had the overstock kernel on, i followed the directions in the MIUI section to install ... i managed to flash the vibrant-efsbackup and then odin and flash the kernel from cyanogenmod and then i went back into the new recovery and flashed the miui rom. but when i reboot the phone, it reboots and shows the cyanogenmod kernel screen and then it jumps back into recovery. it doesnt go into the rom at all, it just loops back into the recovery. what can i do? i dont want to odin to stock just yet.

You're going to have to go back to stock. Use a stock Voodoo kernel instead of Overstock to do the Voodoo conversion next time.

just got back from work. im going to odin and just use a stock voodoo kernel this time around, will post as soon as i do it.

got it to work completely, so thx for the info!

flashing prep questions

Ok, so I'm currently using bionix 1.9 with stock kernel. I really want to flash bionix fusion with kingxklicks kernel, from what here this is a great rom.
My question, is there anything I should know about flashing this i.e. going back to stock rom? Is there anything I need to do before flashing this?
If I decide to go back to stock rom can I just flash with odin? Do I have to flash stock kernel before flashing back to a stock rom?
Can anyone just let me know, I would like to be prepared in case anything does go wrong.
Nope, you should be safe to flash directly over your current rom. As a precaution, if you have Ryanza's OCLF, you might consider undoing the lag fix... not saying it is needed but more often than not, most people who have a problem start off with saying " Help, I just tried flashing (xyz rom) and now I am stuck at the bootscreen. I had (abc rom) and OCLF before... what could be wrong?" Any other questions be sure to consult the red text in my sig.
Ok cool, even then I have been stuck on the boot screen a couple of time. Odin fixed that problem.

Other than making a nandroid backup and maybe a titanium backup, you should be good to go ...
Fusion 1.1 is a wipe ROM so may want to backup your apps ....

Rooted, went custom ROM, Back to stock and now phone will not work

Hey!
I'm a tinker'er' by nature and wanted to try out a few different ROM's. I followed guides and installed ClockWorkRecovery, etc. Made a Nandroid backup and started flashing away.
Tried Nero and Auxura and decided that neither was for me. Great work, BTW. I know both of those ROM's use Voodoo and the stock ROM does NOT - I was careful to follow instructions when flashing between the two and disabled Voodoo before trying to go back to stock.
I booted into CWR and went to "restore" and did a restore based off of my Stock ROM...which seemingly went fine . Phone goes through the T-Mobile splash screen and is booted up now, but I cannot get the screen to unlock. It goes off, comes back on and is stuck on the lock screen no matter how many times I attempt to "Sweep screen to unlock".
I've booted into CWR successfully and did a "Factory Wipe" and then another Nandroid restore and same problem. Do I need to give this thing more time, or what? It keeps waking up, vibrating and then going back to sleep.
Any help? I kinda need my phone to work (partly why I'm going back to stock ) Should I be following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737?
EDIT: Used the guide posted in this exact post worked great - thanks guys, I did read the Bible and that's what lead me to a correct "unbrick"
If your nand backup is from stock 2.1, then that's your problem. You need to flash a 2.1 kernel.

Disable voodoo (if you haven't) Then reflash with Odin Eugene's Froyo that does not brick, then flash (Odin) back to stock. That should get you back ok. Please look at the bible and stickys they have all the needed instructions there
Good luck

I really screwed up...

EDIT: Ok so I flashed it back to 2.1 stock, i'm gonna try flashing Bionix again, is there something I should do before flashing it? Am I in the wrong version or something? Help!
Ok so here's the situation:
I was running Axura 2.0.3 or something and things were ok, but I wanted to flash to something better, so I downloaded the Bionix Frost 2.2.1 ROM and flashed it. It didn't have any of my contacts or SMS so I went to flash it back to my last backup, which was 12/15/10, and Axura. I go to Clockwork Mod, and run the nandroid backup and now when my phone boots up, it goes through the screens, and freezes on the Galaxy S screen, then everything turns black and when I touch the screen, all the bottom buttons light up, but nothing happens, and the only way to get that to turn off is to pull the battery.
Is there any way I can fix this? I have Odin, but i'm not sure exactly what to do here.
flash a kernel. nandroid does not restores kernel.

First things first, calm down.
This is not hard, but it can seem that way if you freak.
Did you read the guides? Did you download rom manager, flash cwr, go to stock recovery and reinstall packages (twice maybe)?
i really think it's about flashing a kernel.

So what kernel do I need? I'm back at full 2.1 stock, and I want to get back to my Axura 12/15/10 nandroid, do I need a kernel?
That axura is 2.2 right? So any 2.2 kernels should be fine,
flash nandroid then before rebooting flash kernel.
In the phone information it says my Kernel is 2.6.29? It says firmware version is 2.1update 1.
If I just want to flash to Bionix, do I need to update a kernel or can I just go straight ahead and do that?
yes. you don't need to flash a kernel when you flash bionix.
You only need to flash a kernel when you are restoring a nandroid backup.
Thanks, you helped a lot.
One last question: how do I move my contacts and SMS over? Whenever I flash a new ROM I seem to lose it.

Help: Can not flash any other rom except MIUI

I was using Bionix-v 1.3.1 since last March, flashed over stock 2.2. I also had Rom Manager Premium V4.3.2.3 with CWM 2.5.2.1.
Recently decided to try out a GB rom. So I downloaded CM7 and MIUI 1.6.24. Tried to flash CM7, but just got a quick CWM screen with boot loop. Somehow using 3 button I could go to CWM screen and flash MIUI 1.6.24.
MIUI booted fine for me. One change I noticed is on power up I get the Samsung Vibrant screen and I new "Galaxy S Cyanogen Mod" screen. After that the MIUI boot animation starts.
Since it does not have GPS support I wanted to try Simply Honey 3.8 Revolution. But when I flashed Simply Homey it goes to Boot Loop showing Samsung Vibrant and then Galaxy S Cyanogen Mod screen. Then I tried other GB rom and got similar result. Only MIUI works and boots fine.
The CWM somehow changed to 3.X.X and it does not accept any FRYO rom having old style (with only update-script) file.
I even can not go to Download mode in any way. ( I have not tried the Jig method yet).
Please suggest any solution if you came across similar situation.
Because u were on a gb rom the way to get into download mode is different for gingerbread roms. Theres plenty of info on that on XDa, sorry dont knowit. But once u get the correct info to get into download mode the gingerbread way then odin to stock and all ur problems will be solved!

Thanks for your response.
I have never flashed GB rom using odin, only thing I tried is flashing CM7 using CWM. Does it automatically update the bootloader? If it does, why every other GB rom goes to boot loop?
You got a bootloop on cm7 because its a known bug, if you tried to install it again it would install just fine. You can go between miui and cm 7 easy outer roms are not comparable. I would like to know too if they install a custom bootloader, when you odin you need too install a bootloader too? That could be risky, that why i am scared to odin back.

How To Install Clockwork Recovery

Sorry guys, I searched all over and it seems that either all the methods are outdated (2010), or I'm getting different opinions on how to do this.
I'm helping my friend root his fascinate, which we have done, however he told me he tried flashing clockwork via Rom Manager. I looked it up and it doesn't appear that's the way to go. He has no familiarity with Odin, however I do.
Can someone post a nice guide on how to do this, I found one that's really good but it's missing an "update.zip" file
Thank you in advance.
Put the phone into download mode, and then use Odin to flash the CWM odin image using the PDA button. The guides from 2010 should be just as valid then as now. Also, don't bother with Rom Manager, it regularly doesn't support our phone. You also don't need an update.zip file necessarily.
Never use the Phone button in Odin!!!
Thank you sir, I imagined this is the way to go since that's what I have done with my Droid Charge.
Will I lose recovery after I odin, if I don't install a customer rom and kernel in time?
is the latest OTA update rootable?
You only need to replace the kernel. The stock Samsung kernel on any Froyo+ (and some Eclair, IIRC) roms will try to nuke CWM on boot up.
The common method is to pull the battery from the phone, be holding volume down (or was it up?) and plug it into the computer, and it should boot to the downloading screen. Odin the CWM image, and once it's totally done, unplug it. Then, holding both volume up and down, put the battery back in and press and hold the power button. Once you see the 'SAMSUNG' logo appear, you can release the keys, and it should take you to CWM. From there, you can flash a compatible kernel.
Just a heads up, any 'MTD' based ROM/kernel (MIUI, Cynanogen, AOSP) isn't compatible with stock roms/kernels. When you flash an MTD rom/kernel, it'll completely change the filesystems & layouts on your phone (making Vodoo lagfix redundant), and you can only get back by Odin w/ a few special images along with the Atlas .pit file.
I'm just looking to put him on a decent rom.
Could I just flash the PBJ kernel found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012571
and after that, what is a good rom? not looking to go MTD route.

Just went to the ED05 powerwashed version and its working well. Not a whole lot different than stock but at least its debloated and rooted. I had too many battery pulls when using evil fascination and Com rom (all versions). I'm still on the factory kernel because more people seem to be having issues with the PBJ kernal.

Flash the PW-Fusion OTB kernal. It's overcloackable to 1.5 and undervolt -100, you will like it over stock kernal...atleast I do! ccampos has a link with it built into the PW v.1.2 rom...may I ask why you didnt take this route initially?

I didn't take the route initially because immediately after the kernal was linked in the powerwashed thread, there were like 4 posts of people getting Force Closes so I decided to wait a bit and see how it pans out (patience is a virtue). I've already downloaded the kernel, i'm just waiting. One thing i'm missing from the PW rom is getting rid of the battery popup. I'm scared to flash the mod because I beleive it was made for EB01.
PS i'm on PW v2

I agree with ZankTank. This is a great ROM and I am also still on the stock kernel that was posted. My phone has never felt as smooth as with this ROM/kernel combination. Just installed the V2 version last night and it is working great and no missed calls.

the otb-fusion kernal and the pbj kernal both work great on powerwash! 90% of peoples problems are user error.
One of the reasons I moved away from stock or stock-ish roms was the battery popup that came with Froyo. Well I've just flashed the zip to remove this "originally intended for EB01 as I mentioned above and there's no popup and I haven't had any FC's or issues as of yet. Granted i've only been using it an hour. I'll update after more use.

I used the file download #1

Also, I forgot to mention that I had to install this zip using Clockwork version 2.5.xx because you get edify script errors with version 3.xxxx
May I ask why does the battery popup bother you so much?
