EDIT: Ok so I flashed it back to 2.1 stock, i'm gonna try flashing Bionix again, is there something I should do before flashing it? Am I in the wrong version or something? Help!
Ok so here's the situation:
I was running Axura 2.0.3 or something and things were ok, but I wanted to flash to something better, so I downloaded the Bionix Frost 2.2.1 ROM and flashed it. It didn't have any of my contacts or SMS so I went to flash it back to my last backup, which was 12/15/10, and Axura. I go to Clockwork Mod, and run the nandroid backup and now when my phone boots up, it goes through the screens, and freezes on the Galaxy S screen, then everything turns black and when I touch the screen, all the bottom buttons light up, but nothing happens, and the only way to get that to turn off is to pull the battery.
Is there any way I can fix this? I have Odin, but i'm not sure exactly what to do here.
flash a kernel. nandroid does not restores kernel.

First things first, calm down.
This is not hard, but it can seem that way if you freak.
Did you read the guides? Did you download rom manager, flash cwr, go to stock recovery and reinstall packages (twice maybe)?
i really think it's about flashing a kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So what kernel do I need? I'm back at full 2.1 stock, and I want to get back to my Axura 12/15/10 nandroid, do I need a kernel?
That axura is 2.2 right? So any 2.2 kernels should be fine,
flash nandroid then before rebooting flash kernel.
In the phone information it says my Kernel is 2.6.29? It says firmware version is 2.1update 1.
If I just want to flash to Bionix, do I need to update a kernel or can I just go straight ahead and do that?
yes. you don't need to flash a kernel when you flash bionix.
You only need to flash a kernel when you are restoring a nandroid backup.
Thanks, you helped a lot.
One last question: how do I move my contacts and SMS over? Whenever I flash a new ROM I seem to lose it.

What if when rebooting to recovery re-installing packaged always end up in failure? Should I go ahead and flash a rom?

Ok, so I'm currently using bionix 1.9 with stock kernel. I really want to flash bionix fusion with kingxklicks kernel, from what here this is a great rom.
My question, is there anything I should know about flashing this i.e. going back to stock rom? Is there anything I need to do before flashing this?
If I decide to go back to stock rom can I just flash with odin? Do I have to flash stock kernel before flashing back to a stock rom?
Can anyone just let me know, I would like to be prepared in case anything does go wrong.
Nope, you should be safe to flash directly over your current rom. As a precaution, if you have Ryanza's OCLF, you might consider undoing the lag fix... not saying it is needed but more often than not, most people who have a problem start off with saying " Help, I just tried flashing (xyz rom) and now I am stuck at the bootscreen. I had (abc rom) and OCLF before... what could be wrong?" Any other questions be sure to consult the red text in my sig.
Ok cool, even then I have been stuck on the boot screen a couple of time. Odin fixed that problem.

Other than making a nandroid backup and maybe a titanium backup, you should be good to go ...
Fusion 1.1 is a wipe ROM so may want to backup your apps ....
So i have probably flashed my phone around twenty times, and each time something goes wrong or doesnt work, i have to use Odin and flash back to stock, do the JI6 update, install OCLF, root it, flash clockwork recovery, then try and flash another rom.
My concern is that it takes forever to do his process everytime. Is there an easier way to do this? Do you need to have JI6 before flashing a 2. 2 rom? Do you need root to install a custom rom? Or can you just copy over clockworm recovery to sd? Any info will help, thanks.

I've flashed my phone with every rom I could find. I was using ClockworkMod Recovery to do my flashing and never had a problem. but if you flash a 2.2 rom.... you can't go back to 2.1
Unless you open Odin and have your phone set to Download mode.
Use these files and click START
PIT- s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA- T959-PDA
PHONE- T959UVJFD
Then your phone will be rolled back to 2.1 update1 STOCK.
I had to use this 4 times. It works.

YOU WILL BRICK IT UP!

yeah ...
I have no clue how you could be having this much trouble... are you following the guides?
First off you don't need to wait for the ji6 / flash the ji6 update to get to froyo. 2nd, why are you bothering with the lag fix before getting on the rom you want to run daily? Try to keep your flashes clean. By this I mean once you're odin'd back to stock, just flash 2.2, so there's no weird mods messing things up for you. If you're finding things wrong every time you have to eliminate as many variables as you can that could potentially cause something to go wrong. If you flash straight from stock, you're only variables will be within the 2.2 ROM you're flashing. Hope this helps. It's definitely worth it to get on one of the froyo roms in these forums, I recommend Axura, no problems at all and there's an even newer release than I'm running so it might be even better.
I did a backup with 2.1 update1 stock. Then flashed to 2.2 Obsidian V4.
That's my first flash and I only got the phone for two weeks. So apparently
I was still in learning mode. I did not backup my contacts as I thought
I could easily go back to 2.1 just as if having a dual bootable linux box.
However, after restoring to 2.1, the phone did not boot. It appears that I
have to use ODIN to bring it back. But my concern is I will lose my contacts
once 2.1 is back. So my questions are:
1. if I use odin, will I lose my contacts?
2. is there any other way to let the phone boot?
3. Not sure if my case falls into the category that flash to 2.2 then cannot
go back to 2.1 unless odin is used.
Sorry for asking so many questions.
Many thanks in advance.

Ok i'm confused on how you will lose contacts.
When you add contacts to your phone are you choosing "google" as the place to add it? If you choose "phone" then you will lose contacts as data is wiped.
But always choose "google", then all of your contacts will be synced and stored to googles servers. Then once you add your google account after you flash your rom all of your contacts will be synced right back to your phone..... this is what I do and I always have my contacts no matter what
install check list
OCLF (Root only)
Rom Manager (clockwork recovery + Rom Installer)
thats all you need really for quick installs.
I did my first rom install about a week ago, since then i've flashed 4 different ones, havent had any issues. i tend to stick to installs that can be installed via clock work, Used odin 1 time that was because OTA JI6 broke me.
Obsidian V4 is unstable and was pulled from the public download page for revisions try V3 or Onyx R3.1
as for contacts, you don't have them synced Via gmail or atleast backed up on your sim?
Just so everyone knows there is a stock 2.2 for use with ODIN. No need to go back to stock 2.1 then up to 2.2 again. The 2.2 for ODIN is pre-rooted. I have done this twice now with no problems. Haven't needed One Click Root/Unroot since we got 2.2
It might be a little late to know this. But to be honest, I do not really buy into
the concept of putting everything in google's hand. That's why I chose to
save in the phone other than google.
I thought that by backing up the current ROM (2.1 update1 in my case),
I should be able to restore back to it whenever I want to.
Am I doomed? Really hate to shoot everybody an email asking for their
numbers. And worse, some of them don't have email since they are old

so far obsidian v4 has not given me any trouble, but I will give V3 a try later
to make sure I have at least one stable version.
As for contacts, I did not take it too seriously when I flashed to 2.2.
But now I realize it's a lot hassle to get all numbers back if I can remember
who are on my list.
Is there any hope to save my a**?

Thanks for all the replies but to be clear all my custom flashed roms flash successfully. Nothing wrong with flashing, just doing advanced stuff like testing eugenes kernels with other roms. If something goes wrong then i have to start over. I was just wondering if we can go from stock to 2. 2 which i know now we can. Do you need root to do this or can you just copy the update. Zip of the clockwork recovery to sd and get into it from stock recovery to flash the new rom

Ive been using gmail as my contacts backup since 06 when it was beta invite only. Synced via active sync on my windows mobile 5,6 and 6.5 phones with ease its just always made more sense then outlook or sim cards since i could access it anywhere i had internet.
Give it a shot doesnt hurt to always have atleast 1 backup

After I odined back to stock like 2 times, I flashed bionix. At first I had to push the froyo jl5 kernel with voodoo because rom manager couldn't install cwm. The everytime I reboot my phone, settings reset. Why?
try the KA7 kernel w/Voodoo and see if you get the same result.. any reason you want to use the JL5 kernel that Supercurio stated causes some problems in the OP???
dont' use cwm just flash through recovery wipe completely first manually,

Sounds like you have some gremlins in your phone. I had a market issue that I tried everything on, and I mean everything. So, for kicks I installed the TW version of bionix and it fixed it right back up. Give it a shot. There's usually no clear answer for these things, but I always keep a version of rom manager and titanium backup on my external sd card for quick flashing. Shoot me a PM if your phone still gives you grief.
hello everyone,
few days ago i pruchased a new kingston 16g card, and follow the resource bible tried to restore my cell back to stock. i format the sdcard, insert to the slot, and then follow the steps "stock nandroid retore" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845756
everything worked fine, i am sure it was completed, but at the very last step to reboot my phone, it stuck at "mytouch 4g" boot screen, cant reboot into the system, bricked i think? so i tried another thread by using PD15IMG, finally i can back to normal and a clean stock status.
(my phone is s-off, permrooted, oc1.5g)now my question is, why can't i success the nandroid restore? did i do anything wrong or do i need some more roms/files/images on my new sdcard? after this i even tried to backup my own nandroid backups and then run restore via rom manager, but i still got the same results, can't completed nandroid restore, always stuck at mytouch 4g boot screen
sorry for my really bad English, hope u guys can understand me... i just need an answer/method/guide that i can try some more new roms/oc kernels in the future without worry bricking my phone. dont really wnat to go over and over again the PD15IMG, i got scared though...
Thank you for ur help!
You probably flashed recovery version 3.0.0.5 in which you cannot restore your stock ROM with. If you don't have another ROM, you should install a gingerbread ROM such as CM7 and then flash the 3.0.0.6 recovery available in the development thread. Don't worry, your phone is not bricked. If you can turn it on and get into recovery or hboot, it can always be fixed.
I think your problem is that you had the wrong recovery. Flash Drew's 3.0.0.6 zip file to get that recovery and then pick 3.0.0.5 in more recoveries in Rom Manager. Also do your nandroids and restore in Recovery. I never go thru rom manager, it just works better that way for me.
really thank you both for the quick response
i just followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681 ,looks like i completed all the steps, but when i reboot and open rom manger, it still shows current/latest recovery:clockworkmod 3.0.0.5, so idk whether i did it right or not?
anyways, later on i might try either my won nandroid backup/recovery or the stockclean recovery again, then we will know the results...
i really appreciate for ur help!
Yes, when you open up all recoveries in Rom Manager it will still show as 3.0.0.5. If you followed the steps correctly when you flash that one and open up recovery, it will actually be 3.0.0.6 which will show at the top. This version allows you to switch between froyo (2.x) and gingerbread (3.x) based ROMs.

In clckworkmod it will always show 3.0.0.5. Flash the 3.0.0.5 in more recoveries. Then when you go in recovery it will read 3.0.0.6 sounds confusing but its not once you got it. Happy flashing!

SMART! read alot, the community is here to help.
my old ROM was team wiskeys froyo ROM, and i just flashed the "ginger bread clone" the firmware is 2.1.1 kernerl version is 2.6.32.9 and the build number is froyo.zsjp and the mod version is GCR3-Update5, idk if any of it matters, work with me, i suck at these types of things. lol, well i downloaded that ROM and it sucks, i cant even install an app. what do i do from going back to the old rom?
Did you make a backup. Rule #1 is to make a backup. If so you can just restore that. If not I would flash a voodoo kernel such as Overstock or one of Supercurio's stock voodoo kernels. After that flash any rom you want including the Team Whiskey one which I assume was Bionix. Right now there are almost 50 roms to choose from just stay with either a 2.2 or 2.2.1 as they are very stable and noob friendly. I personally prefer the 2.2.1 roms as they seem a bit quicker to me but some will say that the few 2.2 roms left are just as good if not better.
the thing is my computer isnt even reading my sd card, even in recovery mode. idk how i'm going to install the stock rom. > lol

Is it not reading either SD or just the internal? If it's reading the external that's fine just place a voodoo kernel on there and follow steps above. If not then you probably need to use ODIN and flash stock.
Go here and follow instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737 This will get you back to true stock and you can start fresh.
it not reading anything on my computer and when i boot to recovery, it only reads the internal.
Yea i think your only option is to odin back to stock
