Google Talk with A/V for Gingerbread roms - Galaxy S I9000 General

Just thought I would let devs in the i9000 forum know that people already have the new 2.3.4 Google Talk app ripped from the NexusS roms and I have confirmed i IT WORKS in our i9000 gingerbread roms. More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793
The one thing is I can't figure out how to switch it to the front facing camera. It's always using the rear one.
EDIT: Actually it is not sending video I was mistaken. I can see video though

Thanks looks good gonna try now
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

will use this and look into the front camera

Great start ... but it is just a start.
Too buggy for now.

I can make a call now but I cant get the camera to work for the video part. I'm running Energy Sense.
How can video calling work on the HD2??

Utilizing the camera. You would just have to turn your phone around. I have done it with the Vibrant and its just neat to have and to play around with.

Or hold the camera towards ur face, then the LCD is looking at a mirrow.
Too bad no one makes a USB camera for the HD2, like some I have seen. Then
the problem is solved.
BTW what phone model did you select to download the Fring.?
It was a cab file that I found and downloaded it. It didnt ask for the type of device. It looks like its for the android base though. I havent been able to get the camera fixed. I woukd like to get this working. If you know the correct file can you steer me in the right direction?

Froyo not allowing front facing video cam to work on video calls?

It worked fine on 1.6 using Fring. Now with Froyo its not allowing the front camera to make video calls, it just uses the back. What gives? Anyone have a fix for this?
Crossing fingers for gingerbread?
Multicam-support out of the box should be one of the 2.3-features.
I´ve heard, that fring with front-cam works on Steve´s froyo (but not 100% sure).

i read somewhere else that the new dell release fixed this.
i have the 318(i believe its the latest (10dec2010)) build installed ... the front cam does not work with fring or tango

I read that last night on Pocketables, but apparently the guy retracted the statement this morning, stating he was wrong. So still no FFC. Why can't Dell just ask the folks that made the EVO how they did it?
i think dell should give a free mirror to everybody
To mix things up, my fring does work with both cameras, I'm running Steve's 1.1.1 and just updated to the new fring.

How can that be seriously? I dont understand these issues. And I really dont want a mirror. The phone came with a front facing camera and it worked on 1.6 Fring. So seeing that fring and tango dont work on Froyo, Im seeing it as Dells issue, not Fring or Tangos. This really is messed up, there has to be a conclusion to this eventually.
this is not a feature of android 2.2 but it will be implemented in 2.3
so unless developers make there own driver for it , it is likely not going to work.

no way this is a Dell issue.. Dell made this happen for you in the 1.6 build while it is not a part of android operating system. so i wonder what you call dell issues. most of these "issues" are not even implented in android system itself.
Whoa, easy there buddy. I didnt know this isnt implimented in Android. So if my friend that has an HTC Evo with froyo on it is using Fring and it works fine, its HTC that made that happen and not Android? I just dont get how anyone can make FFC work on 1.6 wether its Dell or Google, and not have it work on 2.2? Extremely odd.
yeah I would have to agree, no front cam.. all Dell's fault
mabye they'll fix it in the January update... lol..

It is hardly a fix and more of a workaround. The fix would have to come from Fring devs and give you an option to select your camera.
Wait till 2.3-3.0 which will have builtin video calling.
So what did DJ_Steve do to this that cant be added to the official version of froyo? And will Gingerbread even be availible to our phone? Nowadays, phones arent even getting the updates that there supposed to.
3 August 2011.
Fring is not using the front camera, instead it uses the rear one.
Maybe I'm missing some "settings configuration"...

How did Nvidia get Skype video to work on an A500?

Few days ago I watched a video where an Nvidia employee was showing the capabilities of Tegra2 and was running Skype video on an Acer a500... of course I can't find the video for the life of me.. but anyways how the hell did they get it to work and we can't?
I use Skype a lot and it really sucks the only use of the front camera is to take a blurry picture of my self..

Found it! Hmm it looks like its not running 3.0 but 2.2 or 2.3 still though.

Yeah that was 3 months ago and still no video Skype. And now that Microsoft owns them don't expect it before they release it for the new Winblows phones.
it's not skype, but google talk from tab to desktop, and i assume tab-tab works for video chat using front facing camera.

[Q] Skype Front Facing Camera Hack?

The new Skype (2) was released today and has support for 4 phones with front facing cameras. I was wondering if it's possible for the Netflix hack to be applied to Skype... in at least a similar fashion? I'm not sure how the netflix hack worked to begin with (APK hack or Build.prop... still a noob to android guts). I'm also wondering if it only works on 2.3 because of the new camera api's...
Anyone else curious/interested? I don't know how to hack it but I am just curious.
I am both, curious and interested...
Sadly, a simple mod on the APK or build.prop won't be enough. That's the reason Qik has a dedicated video app for motorola atrix. It's an API/driver issue.
In android development theres one, check it out :-D(before complaing, its test version guys)
Cool, that was fast! I didn't see it, must have come up right before I posted.
Edit: Can't find the topic, got a link?

not entirely correct, with Gingerbread (2.3.3+) Google included a standard FFC driver which Moto has stated is compatible with the Atrix and should be used for any further development on GB platforms. on froyo, all carriers had to figure out FFC drivers on their own, but for GB it's standard.

it's in the main Android Apps forum, an SGS user modified theirs to work on the SGS, but on the Atrix it force-closes on sign-in.

So are we saying that once Gingerbread is fully released for the Atrix that Skype will easily be able to add support in for the phone?

theoretically, yes. since all GB devices will be able to use a common FFC driver, it shouldn't be a problem. of course, nothing ever goes that smoothly or easily...
skype and all would be great, but id be more interested in getting the FFC to actually work... in the unofficial GB (or whatever u wanna call it) release the FFC doesnt work..
How about on the skype hack that just came out (look at android police) on 2.3.4
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G on the network with the most backhaul, whatever that is. This post might have errors as I hate touchscreen keyboards.

[DONATION] Donation towards fully working skype video calls

Hi,
I would like to start a donation pool towards a fully working Skype video calling.
I will be the first to donate.
I would like to see it on the ICS (Alpha2) or its off spring.
Good luck,
Developers : please post your interest here, and how you want to proceed
Users: please make your pledges here
thanks

Might be a tough bill to fill as there isnt even a video app available for WebOS. Maybe they just never got around to it, or the hardware just doesnt support it. Even though it was an advertised feature

That or its just more of HP's famous false advertising...you decide.
After searching a bit, looks like it was the same as it was with the Palm Pixi, an advertised feature that didnt exist at launch, but was later introduced in an OS update. I believe WebOS v3.04 gave support for Camera and Video Recording, Making Skype video calls possible. So it is certainty hardware capable. Id imagine as soon as any other ICS ROM gets a working camera, this one will be soon to follow.

I am not a big fan of bounty threads and will close this thread down if people start asking for any money to work on this.
However, if people would like to pledge money that they pledge to donate to a developer after the work is done...so be it.
Just don't start sending donations until you see the goal realized and send your donation directly to the developer. No middlemen or THREAD CLOSED.
OF COURSE XDA has nothing to do with these pledges, and will do nothing to ensure they paid...so user beware.

I've done video calls using my touchpad multiple times using the "Phone and Video Calls" application. You can add your Skype account on there as well.

I dont know what jhayton is talking about but you can certainly make video calls in webOS.
Im sure any progress towards using all of the touchpads capabilities on android are appreciated.
