Few days ago I watched a video where an Nvidia employee was showing the capabilities of Tegra2 and was running Skype video on an Acer a500... of course I can't find the video for the life of me.. but anyways how the hell did they get it to work and we can't?
I use Skype a lot and it really sucks the only use of the front camera is to take a blurry picture of my self..

Found it! Hmm it looks like its not running 3.0 but 2.2 or 2.3 still though.

Yeah that was 3 months ago and still no video Skype. And now that Microsoft owns them don't expect it before they release it for the new Winblows phones.
it's not skype, but google talk from tab to desktop, and i assume tab-tab works for video chat using front facing camera.

Then why does the nVidia guy constantly talk about Skype and their partnership with Skype while showing it off?
I this still an issue? Just got my A500, & it video skypes perfectly.
Uh, Skype video has been working just fine for me for a while now.
Skype video works great for me as well.. even tethered to my cell for internet..
I suggest you uninstall it then re-install.. If still no go And you are on a custom rom post in the rom devopers thread where you got it .If your stock consider resetting your tablet

Here is a Youtube video posted using SKYPE VIDEO calling on the EVO 4G
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YHrK5gg1Pk
I've tested the Skype chat, and it does work! So awesome!
That is what I have been waiting for. Thanks for posting that. I think that will seal the deal for me.

Test of EVO to EVO video call? PM me.
Gamebreaker!! I knew this would be done out the box. I can't wait
Awesome!!! Can an EVO user duplicate the Skype video chat with this app? I just want to make sure we aren't being duped by that YT video.
Tried it. Works.
Did you skype video call another EVO user, or a PC? Any lag issues?
Evo to PC. Waiting to try with another EVO user. Tiny bit of lag, but no more so than PC to PC video.
No doubt you will have plenty to choose from next Friday.
How does the video/audio feed from the EVO look/sound on the PC? If you can compare the EVO skype experience vs PC skype.
I use Skype all the time on an embedded 3g radio on my laptop, so i know network latency shouldn't be an issue. I guess I wonder if the EVO's hardware presents an issue.
No idea what the video on the PC looks like. The remote was 1000 miles away.
Latency was about 1-2 seconds over 4G and about the same over WiFi.
Tried it with someone with an incredible over 3g, worked great. Amazing!
tried it with someone with a nexus one. works great. but i can't see him cuz his camera faces the other way
Uhhh, tell your buddy to turn his N1 around
then he can't see me! aha! evo <3
just tested it with my desire. it's incredible. such a grand EVOlution...
one side-note: did you get it running with people using your gtalk account? it only seems to be working with skype.
What software needs to be downloaded to use on the Evo? I went to the Skype site and it only lists Verizon Wireless! TIA.
Evo to PC works... and works well.

use fring from the market, it lets you log into your skype account
Awesome, good to hear that I can continue to skype for free on my EVO, soon as it is in my hands.
I have no doubt the 4-gen iphone will have this feature integrated seamlessly, in the usual smooth apple UI. Hopefully android 2.3 will integrate this feature natively.
Again, Android FTW.

hope to see some vids of this in action!
They've fixed the bug that kills the camera, hooray.
Useless without Skype, boo.

Indeed. I wish skype would release an adndroid app that's just not for verizon phones.
Cool, wasn't much use with the wrong camera, will try the update when i get home
Great... this will now save me having to repeatedly inform users not to install Fring.
It's a pity that they don't support skype anymore

Tested this today from Australia to USA on Fring.
Me: SGS
Friend: iPhone 3GS
Me: worked fine, front camera showing picture
Friend: worked fine.. with a mirror..
I was using Fring on SGS with Samsung's headset and my friend was using GTalk on Windows and he said he could barely hear me
Hello guys,
Ive just installed Fring as I am hoping to be able to get the video phone working.
Has anyone had success?
Can to SGS users WITHOUT fring video call one another? Any one done that?
Tx
Mark.

Network plan?
I assumed it was a DATA video call, ala skype or iphone's facetime, which are purely data transfers...
Surely the video call on SGS is not the (now completely out dated) traditional video phone call that was so unpopular years ago... so unpopular that mobile phone companies removed their front facing cameras?
Mark.
You'll use fring, but fring does not work on the .GS right now. They are working on it.

Hi
Yep, I see the fring guys are working on it
http://www.fring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16838&page=4
It would be good if skype did something directly for android... and then there is that alpha version of adobe I saw on engadget a month or so ago.
Mark.
Good question from the OP.
I also would like to know how and what I can do video calls to (without fring) .
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i have used fring on sgs, to make video calls and it works with data plan or wifi. fring to fring users can make calls between each other , skype support has been taken out.

Skype with video support is coming out for Android in the fall. If all you want is audio you can find an APK by googling around.

I really hope so, I'd prefer to use Skype than Fring, contacts-wise and also I was very unimpressed by Fring connectivity in the past and even less so by their handling of their "bandwidth issue" with Skype.

Here it is people the app you have been waiting for!

I used the official version .. and besides it does not support the video, it was also rather buggy. For example when I tried changing volume when in skype, it crashed altogether with launcher. I use all official rom and launcher and everything.

will this let your video call a pc
Should work
The hacked version worked fine, but the front face camera was always landscape oriented. Should've been portrait oriented by default.
who wants skype when google talk video is brilliant . I called from phone to a friends pc and it was brilliant over wifi

Guys... it's Skype we're talking about.
Of course it's buggy. Of course it crashes.
It's a well known fact that Skype is written by severely drunk monkeys with Alzheimer's, using only their legs to write code.

And now that it owned by M$ those monkeys will be told to make it Xbox exclusive when they've nearly finished developing it for all other platforms...
Just tested video chat over 3G/H+ in Toronto with Skype and gTalk.
Skype video quality is bad, all image in little squares, and it took about 1Mb of traffic for 1 minute of video chat.
gTalk video is much-much better, the image is clear but it took about 6Mb of traffic for 1 minute.
Since 3G is payed by traffic - it's up to you what to choose, nice video-quality or nice monthly bill.
Hi,
I would like to start a donation pool towards a fully working Skype video calling.
I will be the first to donate.
I would like to see it on the ICS (Alpha2) or its off spring.
Good luck,
Developers : please post your interest here, and how you want to proceed
Users: please make your pledges here
thanks

Might be a tough bill to fill as there isnt even a video app available for WebOS. Maybe they just never got around to it, or the hardware just doesnt support it. Even though it was an advertised feature

With its 1.3-megapixel front-facing webcam, TouchPad offers video calling capability.(11)

That or its just more of HP's famous false advertising...you decide.
After searching a bit, looks like it was the same as it was with the Palm Pixi, an advertised feature that didnt exist at launch, but was later introduced in an OS update. I believe WebOS v3.04 gave support for Camera and Video Recording, Making Skype video calls possible. So it is certainty hardware capable. Id imagine as soon as any other ICS ROM gets a working camera, this one will be soon to follow.

I am not a big fan of bounty threads and will close this thread down if people start asking for any money to work on this.
However, if people would like to pledge money that they pledge to donate to a developer after the work is done...so be it.
Just don't start sending donations until you see the goal realized and send your donation directly to the developer. No middlemen or THREAD CLOSED.
OF COURSE XDA has nothing to do with these pledges, and will do nothing to ensure they paid...so user beware.

I've done video calls using my touchpad multiple times using the "Phone and Video Calls" application. You can add your Skype account on there as well.

I dont know what jhayton is talking about but you can certainly make video calls in webOS.
Im sure any progress towards using all of the touchpads capabilities on android are appreciated.
