"new" unlimited plan - myTouch 3G Slide General

Anyone else notice that T-mobile's new data plan is now at 2GB and not 5GB? Does anyone know if older subscribers are grandfathered in?

We are always grandfathered in. That's what our contract does

I think the 200mb data is pricing at $10. The price seems right for those needed mobile connection and are not big on bandwidth intense internet activities. For me, I only use Google map with traffic, emails, HTC Weather, and regular information look up on my HTC HD2. Used about 80mb a month.

Tmobile 10GB data plan

Not sure if you all knew, which most probably did and I'm just stupid. But Tmobile introduced a new plan on 5-23-2011 that caps and throttles you at 10GB instead of 5GB. I found out about this from a friend who recently was shopping for a new carrier and a store rep had said it was available. I just called Tmobile and sure enough they now offer it as well as a 2GB with overages. Heres the link for reference:
http://mobile-broadband.t-mobile.com/plans
Only problem from what I can tell is you need to sign a new agreement. So any grandfathered plan you might currently be on goes out the door. That was a deal breaker for me as I love my 5 faves! For now anyways. I know I personally hit the 5GB limit once and got close a couple other times so I am still considering my options. At least we can include this as another one now though
I have an unlimited (real unlimited) plan so, they keep trying to get me to change the plan ........... but NOOOOOOOOO WAY........ Nice to know, a 10 gig plan is really a decent size

Sure you get grandfathered in, but T-Mobile 3G > Verizon 3G, LTE will get slower as more phones/tablets are released, so I'd rather stick with a carrier I know is reliable, fast, and cheap. ^^

I agree, from what I understand Verizon is implementing a tiered plan system also with the release of their IPhone5 and "Bionic". Of course as with any carrier if ur in a situation where ur getting a "grandfathered" plan usually its gonna be better than whatever their offering you in some way. Their just offering one thing to try to lure you away from what you already got. I just posted this for those that are not on a true "unlimited" plan and do get throttled at 5GB. A higher cap is something I personally was hoping for after being throttled my first time.
I thought that my grandfathered plan with the my faves was better until I started looking at what I really use. I had a my faves plan with 1800 minutes and unlimited data. (BTW those old unlimited data plans cap high speed at 2GB not the 5GB that most are thinking, then you are throttled)
I ended up changing to the unlimited talk text and data (with the 5GB cap on high speed per line) and saved about $25 a month. (family plan)
They are all unlimited data plans, the only difference is that they are not putting the high speed cap in the fine print any longer, It's there as bold as can be.
I use about 3.5GB a month and my wife uses about 2.5 GB a month so paying for anymore high speed that I need didn't make sense.

I use around 7-8GB a month (and I WAS on the 5GB plan, so I'd get capped every month, and just deal with the EDGE like speeds), and these new plans that they offer are amazing. 10GB plan now, and I won't get capped every month. ^^

May be better put in an XDA general thread rather than a specific device thread. You're going to find lots of international users and T-mobile users in here so there's going to be a lack of info or a bias towards T-mobile.
As far as the USA goes, T-mobile and Sprint are the only two with unlimited data. AT&T has been on tiered 2GB plans for a long time, and Verizon has tiered as well. So its like this:
Sprint: Unlimited, literally. Use as much 3G/4G as you want
T-mobile: Unlimited to 5GB (if you're grandfathered) or 2GB if you're a new customer. After 5GB (or 2GB, plan depending). You get throttled to EDGE for the rest of the month, but no overages.
AT&T: 2GB cap. Overages for using more for 2GB. Can add another 2GB with a tethering package.
Verizon: Tiers. 2GB, 5GB, 10GB. Overages for using more than your cap.
So unless you like the phones on sprint, T-mobile is your best situation considering you can never get charged overages, just get slowed down. And the cap before you get slowed is higher than the others. Not to mention that a non-contract T-mobile plan is $30 cheaper per month than AT&T or Verizon w/ less data. Of course where you live plays a large factor too. T-mobile is known to have a smaller coverage area, but generally fast speeds when you do have coverage because of the quick HSPA+, and much fewer users per tower.
Sucks, but its the way it is here.
Id like to add to this thread, if u have a wireless router at home turn on your wifi when u r home. I got throttled once and it sucks, ever since then I wifi when at home.

I think "true" unlimited data is going to soon be extinct. Even Sprint will eventually change their ways. The rise of data-hungry smartphones is a reality on a finite amount of spectrum. Getting throttled is always preferable to overages, and this is why AT&T sucks (among other reasons).
Oh and T-Mobile is going to start overages as well, at least on their lightest data plan. Not sure how many of us Android geeks would start up this kind of plan, but there it is. Source----> http://www.tmonews.com/2011/08/t-mobile-changing-200mb-data-plan-away-from-throttling-to-overage/

T-mo has a 10gb data package as well now. kind'a expensive IIRC though, I just stuck with my grandfathered 5gb plan... it's never an issue for me and I occasionally stream Netflix via PS3/Wii using wifi tether.
utilize wifi whenever possible and download files to your pc if you're at home/work then transfer them rather than using the phone directly.
I have the 200 mb plan. Rarely go over. I live in an E area. Rarely do i get to a 4G area. I was told when i went with t-mobile after centennial sold out to att that i would have 3 G . NOT. So i uses wifi whenever I can.
That's also a problem I don't have access to wifi neither do I have a home computer so I have to rely on my phones internet for mostly everything and it gets frustrating when my phone is slow

Well that's your own issue. Your phone's 3G connection isn't meant to be used as a home internet connection, and you really can't expect to use it in that way. The days of unlimited, unthrottled 3G are coming to a close, and you really need to think about that.
The prices for data are WAY higher per GB for 3G anyway, and you'd be better off buying a home cable/DSL connection even if you could use 3G unlimited.

Tmobile

So apparently not only does tmobile reduce speed when you go ever your max speed they charge you $1.99 per MB i think or i dont remmber but wth? when did that change? a couple of months ago i went over my 2GB and all i got was slow internet, now they actually charged me. any1 else know about this?
This change was only supposed to affect people who began new contracts/even more plans after that date in august or whenever. I called to confirm and it should not affect you if you began your contract earlier, it should only throttle your speed as you said. I would call customer service to get it cleared up.
They shouldn't charge you per MB on any 2GB smartphone plan. Only throttling applies AFAIK.
Per MB charges should be on dumbphone plans and plans like the 500mb/month allotment.
Well originally my plan was the unlimited and I changed it to the 2GB and when I called tmobile they said they charge by the MB.

This sounds right, but I wasn't aware that T-mobile had a capped 2GB plan? That would have a lot of confusion with the "Unlimited" plans that just slow down at 2GB.
I would much rather have the throttle then an mb/$ after 2gbs.

Sprint is already going to start capping WiFi tethering plans to 5GB, and has said that throttling connections in the future is not off the table.
It'll happen eventually. Probably after they get flooded with customers when the iPhone comes to their network. Happened to AT&T and Verizon.

Generally they begin capping around 2gigs. Not bad though for $45. Only reason this appeals to me is I can't get T-Mobile 3/4g service but I can get AT&T hspda service. As far as I know, this is the cheapest unlimited plan that runs on AT&T's network.

It does, unlimited minutes and messages, 4G with speeds throttled after the first 2G - but it's only available as a family plan: 2 phones, 2 plans, 2 x $50 / mo.
Great if you've got a family member who's interested, and you both live in the t-m ob footprint.
The same plan's available BYOD for $60/mo, which is a lot more when you consider that the family plan includes phones.

I used Simple Mobile's $40 per month plan and data speeds were horrible. It was so bad I switched to their $60 unlimited. Then this past weekend T-mo had that free phone giveaway thing for new customers, so I ended up signing up for the $60 plan for 2GB of data. Same price as Simple and I only really use about 2GB per month anyway, so it works well for me plus a free Galaxy S 2 is always cool with me.
The one thing about t-mo I really like is that if you call them there are a lot more options than what you see on the web. For example, I use Google Voice so I don't need SMS. That cuts $10 out of the bill right there, but you have to call to get them to take that out, can't do it via the web I don't think.
When is the Straight Talk SIM plan coming out?! Will they do 4G? God, I hope so, $45 bucks for all the **** they offer is a STEAL, especially if you use it with a smartphone... Unlike I am doing with GoPhone ATM

Knowing AT&T, if you use Straight Talk, the data speeds are probably capped at 512kbps.
Didn't work for me. I cannot even use SMS with their unlimited $45 plan. Data is down as well. I'm on Straighttalk AT&T SIM card. Customer support reset the options on their side twice, but it didn't help. I tried two different phones with this SIM card to no avail.
texts should be working but for data, did you put in the new APNs? Data wont just work if you just insert the SIM card in since AT&T and ST have different APN's
