Sorry if this has been asked but I have just ordered a Milestone 2 and i was wondering whether the Droid 2 ROMs would work on the Milestone 2. I know people say no but i remember reading in the D2G forums about a little patch you can implement to make D2 roms work on D2G - Isn't the hardware and drivers the same apart from the EVDO/CDMA part of the antennae?
Thanks, Jack
I tried to install a ROM designed to work on the D2G and I bricked my Milestone 2 so I advise you to not try it
I might have done something wrong but I won't test again as I had to restore my system with RSD Lite (and it's a pain in the a*s).
Well that sucks - wonder why it bricked it D:
I hope you did something wrong and it does work. I will just try when i get my phone.
If it doesn't i will either install ArgenROM or overclock to 2GHz
D2 custom roms mostly work, however the issue with those is that they do not initialise with the UMTS radio, instead they use CDMA. By "mostly", I mean "everything except for the phone part". All the difficult bits (wifi, GPS, camera etc etc) work perfectly. I've flashed the APEX rom to my phone without issue.
It's possible, when we can work it out, that we can force them to boot with the UMTS radio. When we've worked this out, we should be home free, thus giving us a few more roms to use =)

There is a file you can flash on the d2g to initialise the UMTS radio once a D2 rom is installed - I wonder if that would work?
What file?
Would you upload it? In a update.zip way?

If you can find it for me, I'm more than willing to try!
The "file" is called D2G romer tool. Yes, it is an update.zip which you install from clockwork recovery. It will NOT work on Milestone 2. However, the approach taken creating the romer tool can be used with Milestone 2 to create similar file based on Milestone 2.
Romer is far from perfect though. If you want to know more, google for Get~R~Done team, or go to droidforums.net and navigate to Droid2 Global section.

Thanks for that! Based on this info, I have an idea as to how I can make this work. Hell, I have another slightly dodgier thing to try that may also work :3

Lets hope we can get some ROMs a Flashin' on the MS2 then
I've downloaded that file. So by, let's say, replacing all files from that update.zip with files from the Milestone 2 Stock ROM, we would be able to create a "MS2 Romer"..?
There are quite some files to replace, but I think I might try it out this weekend!

Hah! Messing around, I've managed to get a version of APEX to boot. However, in my messing I removed all the bits that make it APEX, but the rom does boot with the apex logo and the different key map, and the phone part works too..
Pretty sure I know what to modify to get this work... gonna mess some more :3

Well this is a start- just shows we are getting there
Also, The milestone's BL is blocked but devs just load the system files such as SenseUI or other ROMs without replacing kernels. With some tweaks would it be possible to port Sense 2.2/2.3 to the MS2? (I like blur but sense is good too and i tend to chop and change roms on my current phone)
Yay! Congratulation!
I see MM2 community raise. Now I don't have any arguments, I will buy MM2

Theoretically it's possible to bring across SENSE. Not sure how deeply it integrates, I don't know a lot about sense. Theoretically you could replace the bits of BLUR with Sense, dunno for sure yet. The fact that sense exists on non-sense devices makes me believe it's possible :3
But like someone said before, the camera probably wouldn't be working because of the integration of its libraries into the kernel

If the camera itself is a part of sense, then sure. But otherwise, D2 roms have working camera on them on MS2.

Well, I'm still learning the basics of android building. As soon as I get my custom hijack for 2nd init working I will try to port CM to the Milestone2. Note that I'm not promising any dates. My free time is very short and I'll do my best, but I don't want to get under pressure because of this
I think a leaked unlocked bootloader would do the trick
Just jocking. As I see it, nothing has changed regarding custom roms, as the bootloaded stays the same.
But I am quite confident, that r2beta0 will have progress on 2nd-init soon.

I think we don't need the 2nd-init built specially for GB rom, since Defy's CM7 (and Droid 2/X's) still have the base SBF on froyo. Maybe if we exchange the boot.img and devtree.img from GB leak to the ones inside Defy's CM7 update.zip (don't forget to delete /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default/pds_init too, or you'll get all that GSM problems again)?
Edit: Won't Apex 2.0 RC2 work on GB Mile2?

We need 2nd-init in order to change the boot sequence required by CM7. DroidX already have a customized 2nd-init for CM7, but I don't want to use it yet as it uses bootscripts inside a /system/etc/shadow-boot.zip. I prefer to have my files ready to edit and not inside a zip file. Also, trying to make my own hijack is giving me knowledge I will need when trying to port CM to M2.

Hi guys,
Searching the web, i found a oficial port of MIUI for droid 2, than i think: "Can we port this version with the ch kernel and change the baseband?"
If its possible, i think that this way is more simple, however port a defy rom and fix the incompatible bugs...

We should check first if this ROM is compatible with the kernels we have available. If so, we can try to port from that. Some ppl into Development forum are already trying to do that.

It is more difficult to port from a CDMA device. If you achieve Apex Rom to work with GSM network, then you can think about porting it.

Hey guys, a new ROM has just released on Dev Forum, click here and see by your self!!!!
One maybe stupid question:
Can I install this rom on froyo or should I first upgrade my MM2 to GB?
There´s what u have to do (didn´t test yeat, I will try at night. But u can always downgrade with a stock SBF):
** Make u sure of your phone is rooted before everything !! **
1. Download all-in-one.zip and put into /sdcard/
2. Download and Install Droid2bootstrapper (old CWM) from the internet/market
3. Update to Ported Defy CWM (there´s a thread in general forum explain how to install that)
4. Boot into CWM and apply the all-in-one.zip and after (without reboot) make a full-wipe (make u sure that u have maked a backup of everything before)
5. At this moment, reboot your phone and use the keys combination for enter in bootloader mode
6. Download the fixed_sbf from the original thread in DEV forum and apply with RSD lite.
7. Your phone will reboot and after some minutes, U Can Enjoy the new ROM!!!
I think I made a big mistake!
I touch everything and I'm going to Defy baseband! I change the parameter.
Since the network can not be found.
Any idea?
i will take a look at this

Good mod!
But does anybody know how can I get back low battery beep and camera sounds? I find them rather useful.
I got struck in "google" logo and the phone dont boot
how can i do factory reset in bootmenu from the CM7 ? i dont find this option there...
or even re-install all the stuff...
EDIT: i can't open CWM 4.0 from the BootMenu 1.0.2 , i try latest recovery or stable recovery but it says "error in /system/bootmenu/script/recovery.sh (result: no such file or directory)
Please help ! T__T
I can't post in thread on development's subforum, so I ask my question here:
where can I find a tool and howto to make my own custom *.zip file to use with CWM? I have found a tool called Android Kitchen, but readme inside archive says, that it is mainly created for HTC devices. Am I following a correct path , or I should search some other tools?
update:
I have successfully flashed my custom *.zip file based on information taken from www[dot]londatiga[dot]net/it/how-to-create-android-update-zip-package/
coming from miui, how should i update?
Hello!
Since there is a fully working CM7 for Bravo (thanks Quarkx), does anyone know how can I port an existing ROM from Defy (example: WhiteRabbit 1.3 which is based on CM7)?
Anyways, here is the link of TweetyPeety's ROM: WhiteRabbit 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510063
Thanks!
When I port Defy roms, I start by replacing the radio files with the ones that BravoMotorola posted in an earlier thread, adding in Quarx's camera libraries, editing media_profiles.xml, and editing the build.prop. There are a few apps included with some Defy roms, like Torch and Rom Updater, that are completely incompatible with the Bravo, and they need to be removed (or never used...).
I've attached a CWM compatible zip that removes the Defy radio, Defy camera libraries, Torch, Rom Updater, media_profiles.xml, and build.prop and replaces them with BravoMotorola's radio, Quarx's camera libraries, updated media_profiles.xml, and a CM72 compatible build.prop. I've tested this with various Quarx, Epsylon3, and Maniac103 CM7 nightlies and always had success.
If you want to use this for other Defy roms (not CM7 based) either remove or edit the build.prop accordingly and check\modify the updater-script to ensure it's compatible with the rom you want to use. By modify the updater-script, I mean to either add or remove apk's or libraries your custom rom may or may not have.
The libraries included are for Gingerbread roms and won't work on Froyo or ICS. Don't bother trying cause you'll bootloop at best, flash the sbf at worst. If anyone is interested, I can make a similar patch for Froyo roms, and an ICS patch for radio and apn settings. And don't bother asking about ICS camera, I've tried many, many, many library combos and no camera or bootloop. Your best bet on ICS camera is to donate to Quarx.
Install the included zip AFTER installing your rom.
Good luck on your Defy rom porting.

I've been using the White Rabbit 1.3 rom for the past 6 hours or so and have really been enjoying it. It does have a few issues though. The apn settings for att are incorrect so it won't connect (same as CM9) and I can't get usb tethering to work at all. At first, the phone recognizes usb as being connected, then when you enable, it instantly disables and the phone will bootloop every 5 minutes or so. Not really bootloop, but it does reset to the boot screen. It really sucks because this is a good rom I'd like to use but usb tethering is a must for me. Other than the tethering issue, this seemed to be stable rom and its worth trying it out.
I've included a patch to fix the camera, apn problems, and an edited build.prop. Install the rom as usuall, reboot to change to 2nd_boot, go to recovery and install the bravopatch-whiterabbit1.3.zip.
Does anybody know which program controls usb tethering? I suspect usb.apk but I'm not sure. Since I haven't had any problems whatsoever with Epsylon3's 20120212 nightly, I'll try using it's usb.apk and hope it works.
I tried upb.apk and usbd from 20120212 with no success, but it did stop the bootloop issue. I also noticed that this rom was based on KANG 20.02. I've never used or ported a KANG rom, so maybe the tethering issue is kang specific? I'll flash a kang rom tomorrow to check.

work full..
Edit
3g and Usb Tethering don't work. My apologies on that. I only use wifi and 3g only when necessary. Data plans suck. Calls work with good signal, not sure about texting, don't really text much.
It's fully working if you don't require usb tethering . The touchscreen in the installer is sometimes unresponsive when pressing the next and previous buttons, but the menu key works as next and back as back. No other issues with the installer. While it may have been wifi and running a lot of crap in a short time as a basic stress test, I thought the battery drained faster than usual.
The rom is worth checking out. I really like its theme and set up more than anything.

After typing all of the below, I realized I for got to ask--Did you enable signature verification by accident or have a bad download? I've been using the cm72 patch since the day Quarx released a proper bravo rom and haven't ever had a bad zip error, and the white rabbit patch is identical to the cm72 patch other than the build.prop and apns-conf.xml. I'm not sure if it matters, but I've only used the wr patch with the recovery from epyslon3's latest cm72 nightly 0212.
If its the patch for white rabbit, remove the build.prop from the patch and remove the line
"/system/build.prop"); from /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script. We probably had conflicting installer options. Once you reboot after updating both zips, make sure to boot into 2nd boot like the installer says...although 2nd init booted it up just fine after the initial post-install bootloop last night for me.
You'll also need to edit the build.prop for the camera and device settings with the ones I included. You also need to make sure do delete strings for flash under OLD Tags as well.
I have a habit of editing the build.prop manually before flashing a new rom, and the one in the patch was also the build.prop in the white rabbit rom, both times I installed it.

Tried out latest KANG cherry pick today and its usb tethering works, 3g doesn't however. Tried multiple basebands and replacing radio with no luck. The att apn wasn't correct, and fixing didn't help.
Also, the 3g on White Rabbit doesn't work either. Anybody here port a defy cm7 after 0212? Other than these two I really haven't, and I'm wondering if newer defy cm7's are bravo incompatible, glithcy, or just that the KANG cherry picks don't like us.
I've also since downloaded the White Rabbit patch from here and didn't get any zip errors. Here's how I installed if anybody's interested:
reboot recovery
select WhiteRabbitEdition-1.3.zip

Install Type->Custom
Rom Options->Full Wipe, Moto Defy MB525, Google Apps, ICS Standard
Tweaks Options->AGPS Version, CM7 Stock, Off, Gingerbread, Standard

Exit Installer
apply bravopatch-whiterabbit1.3.zip
reboot to bootmenu
set 2nd_boot to default
reboot to bootloop
remove and insert battery
power on
enjoy
I just realized I downloaded it wrong. Working great! Thanks!

Does usb tethering and 3g work? I never had them working with White Rabbit. To be specific, does turning on wifi then using usb tethering work. I use my phone as a wireless nic instead of running an ethernet cable through the house to my linux box. Kinda hard to update debian with no internet.
Ugh miui Pikachu edition works before I try to make camera work then just bootloops... Darn it's such a good rom!

How were you trying to make the camera work?
I've also heard good things about that rom, just haven't bothered trying it yet.
Also, the latest quarx cm7 nightly is pretty stable. Using it now... my earlier cm7 patch works, but a new line in build.prop is needed and the apn-conf.xml from the white rabbit patch is required unless you like setting up the apn each time. Actually, I've had to change\fix the apn-conf.xml for every cm7 nightly after epsylon3's feb 12 nightly. epsylon3's feb 12 nightly is a real good rom to use if you want a good defy rom to use. I used it as my primary rom till quarx's latest 7 and I'm switching to epsylon's tomorrow.

That's the problem, that patch was made for cm7 only.
The steps to PORT CAMERA ONLY to any GB ROM.
Does not work with MS2Ginger2.1
Do everything preflash.
Open WhateverRomForDefy.zip in Archive Manager
Under system/etc, delete cameraCalFileDef5m.bin & cameraCalFileDef8m.bin, and replace mot_ise_imager_cfg.bin & media_profiles.xml from cm7 patch
Under system/lib, replace libcamera.so, libcamera_client.so, & libcameraservice.so with the same from cm7 patch.
Edit build.prop for camera like in post 7 under the OLD Tags. While the post is for WR, the camera changes are the same, & all changes are almost at bottom of build.prop. If you can read, you'll see them....
If the above doesn't work, whatever rom your trying is either
That's how I port roms normally. Again this is bare minimum camera. If that doesn't work, you\we're up the that creek with that rom in regards to the camera. FYI, I do all my rom edits with Archive Manager and GEdit\JEdit on Debian Linux. I'm not sure of the Windows alternative (7zip and Notepad++ I'd imagine) cause I haven't used Windows for anything more than SuperOneClick and other Win exclusive\non-wineable apps since XP was released....Win2K was awesome, I miss it.

Any luck? I have some free time today and can make a pikachu patch if necessary. Currently I'm trying out Idiot to port the WR framework over to Epsy's latest nightly.
Why are most of the cool Droid tools windows/dos based? You'd think there'd be more Linux tools for modding a Linux-based os.

Instructions:
Open PikachuEdition2.3.2b.zip
Delete boot.img and devtree.img
Replace files under /system with the ones provided
Make sure to delete the *.jordan.so's under /system/lib/hw
Replace updater-script @ /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
When Installing:
Install as Defy

Almost works with .35 MIUI too. Phone boots & runs ok but automatic screen rotation has to be set off (it mixes horizontal & vertical "layouts" --> the screen is always 90 degrees off). Can't say if it fixes Atmel problems cause I have a Synaptics screen.

Nope, sorry, I don't do the kernel stuff. I guess someone could come up with a workaround though.
lets try
is franco can do something ins this kernel will be perfect!
Kernel by itself is no good for development. You need sources. Best idea I have had was to pull the relevant commits and fixes from DZO's 3.08 ICS kernel and Buckingtons ICS .35 kernel and put them into the proper .35 source, but it takes more time than I have to do. Plus, I am not sure we really have any need for a gingerbread kernel now, ICS is where it is at dev wise sad though that is. We have skipped a kernel iteration due to Huawei mucking up the sources and official gingerbread so much.
https://github.com/dzo/kernel_huawei
https://github.com/franciscofranco/kernel_huawei
https://github.com/TomGiordano/kernel_huawei/tree/2.6.35-ics
This one might be a good base:
https://github.com/TomGiordano/kernel_huawei
It is just about pulling the best bits from the kernel trees and testing, testing testing. FJSferreria? had a guide to compiling the 3.08 kernel source from DZO which should work fine for the .35 kernel too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577876
Where this kernel could work is in extracting the relevant defconfig from it to build a working .35 kernel from. instead of 'make u8800_defconfig', we would pull the config from the phone, back it up, copy it into the build directory and rename it to '.config' and just run the 'make' command.
Can anyone pull /proc/config.gz and upload it for me?
Cheers
Works perfectly with B526

Not necessarily, he can extract the boot.img that's inside of the package and copy it to the image folder, with root explorer.

I'm currently on 2.2, because B526 had reboots related to wifi being on and the screen turning off. I'm looking to go back to 2.3.5, but I need a 100% stable system. I was hoping this kernal might have fixed the wifi/reboot problem. I want to try B528, but I can't root it because the drivers required won't install on Win 7 64bit.

Which guide do you use to root B528? I could root B528 with Win7 64bit. This kernel should work on B526 and other versions.

I tried all kinds of guides. I got a folder with all the stuff I tried to root B528 with, it includes: DooMLoRD_v4, rooted boot image, some Chinese rooting tools, and about 4 different set of drivers. Th problem I have is the drivers won't install, I get an error: "Driver not intended for this platform." If I could get the drivers working, then I could root.
This is an AOKP ROM for the u8800. It is ported from Huawei Honor B977 4.0.3. I'd like to know if anyone else has tried this and what they think. It's a chinese rom from the anzhi forums (original thread)
I flashed this ROM just now ( thanks fjsferreira for the mirror), this is my feedback:
- Fast, smooth (on par with Aurora).
- Wifi, mobile data, bluetooth, and the like work.
- No gapps, Play Store, camera, browser...(you pretty much have to install everything yourself).
- No strip unicode in the Mms.apk.
- Popup notification support in the Mms.apk.
- Cool AOKP tweaks (naturally...).
- No theme-chooser (meaning you'll have to stick with the mix of Touchwiz 5, ICS and lots of tranparency that is the UI).
- Long pressing the Home key doesn't show the multi-tasking interface and doesn't take you to the Homescreen.
- The SEARCH key is set to turn off the screen (to revert it to its normal function (searching!), check this post).
- I'll add more feedback information as more people try it and report.

Make sure the system folder fits in your system partition. I think you need to chacge the partitions in order to flash this, but I'm not sure. Our phone's default system partition is 210 mb
Has anyone tried it? Or have mirror?
I would love to give a try, but download time shows me 18 hours...
I have tried the previous ver actually..... Partition is a must, otherwise phone wont pass Huawei logo. Its ported from Huawei Honor ...every thing works well but Home key does not work..... But be aware some time it happens that you cant return to stock partition and you wont be able to Flash official 2.3 or Froyo ROM back.

I haven't tried that way, you can try once.... All 4.0 official ROM designed for U8800 PRO also officially they have made .app file for changing the partition to install ICS so i doubt it will work.

Actually this version is much smaller (109MB) than the previous (180MB), so it may not need re-partitioning. It has a ".UP" suffix so maybe it is an update flashable only and you need the previous installed, but I can't know since I cannot download it. It just goes soooooo slowwww....

I know, right? I left the computer on and went to the beach but when I came back the file only had 86mb out of the 109mb...I'll have to try again tomorrow, since it will probably take some 4 hours to download.

If you guys use something to stabilize the download, like free download manager, speed is always above 800 KB/s (I've just finished my download, took less than 3mins)
http://i.imgur.com/5kkae.jpg
EDIT: anyway, here it is
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4ZMZwAV0MEaVUUzMjRDM2JyXzg
(I didn't try this ROM yet, and probably won't, Aurora is completely stable for me right now)
Well, just went ahead and tried the ROM. From my 10 minutes playing with it, everything seems to work, wifi, mobile data, bluetooth and camera (camera isn't included by default, you have to install one).
Also, no market by default, you have to manually edit the zip file and include the market apk in it.
Sadly I had to uninstall it after 10 mins because, and I'm seeing this more and more, the dev completely screwed up the UI... it's simply horrible, it's not default AOKP at all... He made a complete mess with icons from samsung, an horrible background in every app, horrible popups and menus, etc... I didn't like that at all. I didn't even took the time to create screenshots, I'm sorry, because it was burning my eyes...
There are some stuff completely in chinese, in the ROM control area of the settings, but overall, you can choose any language that Android includes. Note, while the theme of the UI isn't AOKP, the ROM itself is, with the usual settings AOKP provides,
Performance wise, I saw no difference than with aurora...
