It's hardware related. So, you cannot get 850 3G.

As possible use the Touch HD on HSPDA or 3G on frequency 850Hhz?

EMERSON VIER
if you buy the telstra HD and you live in an area that uses the 850 for 3G then yes.
I´m from Brazil my operator CLARO work 3G on 850, I buy from USA, I check on manual HSDPA 900/2100.
As possible change the ROM or other solution?

No.
Only solution is to buy a Telstra Touch HD if you want it to work on 850.
Hi...
Someone knows how to enable the 3G 850 MHz band in an 900/2100 HSDPA Unlocked Topaz??
I really need to do that, so any help will be very appreciated...
Thanks
I think that is no possible cause is not software who control the band in the phone. If you want 3G in 850 band you need another phone. Thats my opinion.
Mmmm... that's bad to me
But I found this:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=1310
This makes exactly what I need with a ROM Update, but for Diamond...
I hope there is a way....
Thanks for your reply BigwaveMx
That's GSM.
Yes, but I thought that maybe in the same way i could fix my problem...
So? No way?
I'm thinking I'll have to sell my Topaz if I want to get 3G...
The radio chip must first support the band before any "unlocking" can take place. I don't think the European versions even support the 850 band.
I think there it's nothing to do with this issue...
Thanks to all for your help anyway...
Well as (some/most?) of you know, getting a european phone to work on north american frequencies with 3g is hit and miss...
6 months ago, with an xperia x1i, I couldn't get 3g anywhere... but now its pretty much good in most of my city, so this is great...
So I thought... my friend has an N900 (3G Network HSDPA 1700 / 2100 / 900) and it will NOT go to 3g.
the x1i is 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
Also, my i8910 (before it got lost) worked on 3g here, and its bands are 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
last but not least, my i8000 (omnia 2) works on the 3g where the x1i and i8910 do, having 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
So I've come to the conclusion that 1900 is the new frequency that my operator has opened up lately for 3g.
I was thinking of upgrading to the hd2 just on the grounds that it seems like a winmo powerhouse, but the fact that it doesn't have hspa/3g on 1900 sucks...
does anybody know if htc will be bringing a north american specific version any time soon like sony has with the x1a ?
This thread <<HERE>>. Speaks on how the TELSTRA operator in Australia is the way to go if you are with AT&T in the US or Rogers if you live in Canada.
Most people migrated to this operators version to get 3G in the US unless you are T-Mobile which uses a completely different band.

So its special hardware or just a rom update will unlock it?

It absolutely a special version of the HD2. No software upgrade can convert any device when it comes to band frequency discrepancies.
Look <<HERE>> for detailed band info.

they are all quad band for GSM but your 3G bands are probably 900/2100 or 800/850/1900/2100

Change Base Band!
If you live outside USA and you are not getting 3G only 2G connections, you need to install a Base Band Switcher.
You can try it, I live also outside US and I installed:
I used China ME722 1.10 @ 850/1900/2100MHz and works perfect for D. R.
There was a guy from Jamaica who also try it and worked perfect.
Download
I tried this method, it does not work ((

Where are you from? The carrier you are using have to use the same frequency at&t uses.
My carrier uses 850 (claro dominicana)!!!
I can use also personal o claro argentina or brazil. This method should work.
I'm from Ukraine.
I was hoping that I can in this way to unlock the band 900/2100
But hardware is only supported 850/1900 right?

The operator works in 2100 range.
But 3g is not availabl for my phone.
I think the range of 2100 all the same is not supported by hardware.
Why else would my phone is not working 3G?
