Someone knows how to enable the 3G 850 MHz band in an 900/2100 HSDPA Unlocked Topaz??

I think that is no possible cause is not software who control the band in the phone. If you want 3G in 850 band you need another phone. Thats my opinion.

The radio chip must first support the band before any "unlocking" can take place. I don't think the European versions even support the 850 band.
I think there it's nothing to do with this issue...

Saw this news story, does anyone know if it is credible? The NextG Service is on the 850MHz band which is the same as Rogers/Fido in Canada and Cingular in the US...if all this is true then one of these unlocked would be 3G Compatible in North America...Thoughts?

Well that would suck for me because about 3 hours ago I got an iPhone because I really needed 3g already I do ally of browsing and videos but I like the touch he better....
What is the exact issue with North America and the Touch HD? I thought HSDPA was fully supported in our continent under most major providers. Just curious as I'm looking at purchasing one in the future.

The Touch HD that is out now operates on UMTS 900/2100. Telstra in Australia and the North American providers (except T-Mobile) use UMTS 850.
hopefully it is just some software that HTC did. cuz we do have that option to change it to 850MHz 3G in the phone but just nothing happens to it. If a flash can fix it then it should be ok. EDGE for me is pretty fast anyways in Toronto most of the time.

850 mHz is just one of the 2 bands needed to work on US 3G. you also need 1900 . my understanding is one band is for upload the other for download. don't get me wrong, it would be fantastic if the Aussie version was fully capable on US networks. i'll believe it when i see it. heck, expansys even has a note saying they have to confirm the 850mHz 3G band.

This is incorrect. With at&t you do not need both. With just 850mHz you will be more than fine.
Now with T-Mobile you would need both 1700 and 2100 not just 2100 or just 1700 both. Just more reason to hate T-Mobile.
I am ready to take the plunge and drop the $ for an HD. I also will switch my number back to at&t from verizon. I guessi cna say almost ready. I really dont want to spend $800 for no 3G

Some carriers in the US and Canada use 850mhz such as AT&T and Rogers but they also use 1900mhz. It really depends where you live... Whiich city, state etc
1900mhz is growing in popularity in the states.

I can't remember which but one is used for uploading and one is used for downloading.

Sadly, no 3G for me.
You do not need both 1900 and 850. Its only tmobile that u need both frequenes but they use 1700 and 2100. As long as u have ether 850 or 1900 (depending on what freuency ur area uses) u will have 3g with at&t.

No, the *network* you use may be present on more than one frequency, but its not 850 being uplink and 1700 being the downlink.
When we talk about UMTS the downlink is around 850/1700/2100 but the uplink is always a few MHz below that. (to be pedantic, the UMTS specification specifies the exact downlink/uplink separation)
I can't imagine HTC producing a UMTS 850 phone that won't work on ATT/Rogers and Telstra . Telstra only needs the 850 band so HTC can add in whatever extra the US providers use. It will probably be the same bands supported by the HTC Hermes and other phones common to these providers.

Well I stand corrected then. This is good news then. Just need somebody in the US to buy a Telstra HD and see if it works. I guess it will be dependent on the area though. If you don't have 850mhz.
Lol i guess it took a senor member to say it for anyone to believe it. I only said it in the first page lol. Lets see what happens when the aus model comes out.
So it is decided then IF the Blackstone is introduced by Telstra and working on their 850MHz 3.5G Network THEN it has the opportunity to work in both the US on Att and Canada's Rogers/Fido...I will wait for this device, purchase it and let the board know if someone else doesn't beat me to it!
P.S. does someone think that this release may be with the Android OS for Telstra? It was the Telstra reps that were commenting at CES 2009 regarding Palm Pre and how the next Android phone that they were testing kicks it...who knows probably coincidence...

The easiest thing for you would be to find someone to trade phones with. You should probably focus on people using tmobile branded devices on ATT in the US. Your phone is compatible with ATT's 3G band, the tmobile branded device is what you're looking for and is NOT compatible with ATT's 3G band -- EDGE only there.

well, fianly after a big argument and debate with vodafail, about my ghg, and them saying that it will support ALL bands and freq's that they are supporting, or launching. i find out that, it will infact NOT support their 850 G network. which sh8ts me to tears. i have had nothing but trouble with them about this, and the constant reception dropouts that i am having.
i have flashed: radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
and RIL_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
but that hasnt seemed to help. so, i am wondering if there is a way to get my phone to support the aus 850mhz 3g network? is it a radio flash or anything? or is it a hardware based thing?
i looked around, but nothing is specific to my location.
i did however notice that the american version of the phone supports the 850 3g network.
so, is it possible to get it to work? or will i need another phone?

Wait, are you in Australia? As far as I know only Telstra uses the 850 MHz band. Vodafone uses the 900/2100 MHz bands.
yea. but vodafone are starting to roll out on the 850mhz for 3G. they havent fully done it yet, but my area is sposed to have it, and with all the constant drop outs that im facing, its BS. i have flashed a different radio to stock (listed in OP) and that hasnt made alot of difference. is there some way i can up the power or something?

I think you may need another handset my friend. It is a hardware issue.

Worth trying the TELUS Rom Radio 23rd June 2011: Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M - Telus DHD 2.43.661.1 with matching RIL from Jkoljo thread. TELUS in Canada seems to operate on 850mhz for 3G. Hope that will solve your problem. If not... New phone I guess.

You can flash every radio out there and it won't help. It is a hardware issue and not a software issue as mentioned above. The only Desire HDs that will have the 850 UMTS band is Telus of Canada or the Inspire from ATT in the US. I am surprised that Telstra does not have a NextG version.
Hmm I'm on Three which will be merging networks with voda at the end of the year.. apparently we'll be forced to switch sigh..
Hopefully it wont cause any problems, although, Three is only on 2100 and I currently have no issues with my reception (Three also uses Telstra's 850 network, but I'm guess I only pick up 2100 with my DHD).
I guess we'll have to wait and see. You would think that being able to pick up voda's 900mhz network would improve reception...
But yeah, as Agoattamer said, Voda and Three's DHDs wont work on UMTS850.
As per both Voda's and Three's websites, specs for the DHD:
GSM: 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900
UMTS: 900/ 2100 HSDPA/ HSUP
So it looks like you'd need a new phone to make use of the new 850mhz network.

buy a gsm galaxy nexus, it works on both sets of bands. other than that youre out of luck.

You really, really, really, really need to do a lot of reading before you even dream of flashing anything.
Your question is analagous to asking if a software update will allow your microwave oven to run on gas.
A cellular phone contains a hardware radio that communicates with the network. Although people here and elsewhere often refer to a flashable "radio", what they really mean is a radio driver. Nothing you flash will ever change the hardware. Verizon and Sprint phones will remain CDMA (unless they also have a SIM slot, as a few do). GSM phones will remain GSM and will not be capable of changing their frequency via software.
