[Q] How to (back)order an Adam?

Tablets are appearing left, right, and center these days and I think I have decided that I would like to support the innovative little guy. However, I have sent several emails over the course of the last month inquiring how someone could place an order.
I am in the US (if that matters) and was wondering if anyone had successfully ordered or put their names on a waiting list recently (and if so how?), and how long it takes from start to stop to get your adam.

I've been wondering the same thing. Every time I talk myself into grabbing one I can't seem to locate any way of pre-ordering.
Aside from the few that are marked up/snarked up on *bay... I too would rather support the little guy. Though I fear that once I get around to talking myself into picking up a tablet again, an iPad2 will head my way.

The first batch of orders in Dec were across the map as far as time from ordering to delivery (Some got theres in Jan, others not till recently)
I don't believe anyone in this second batch has gotten delivery yet. I ordered mine on Feb 9th and the estimated shipping date is March 3rd-10th (but who knows if that will hold true).
There is a reason why they are calling these "Pre-Orders", I think it is taking them some time to produce them which is certainly a risk us consumers are taking. But have faith if you think this device suits you the best.

iPad 2 really doesn't look like it offers much more then the iPad 1
Yes it is thinner/lighter, yes it has two cameras, and yes it now has a dual core processor....but the main reason I gravitate towards the Adam is the fact is offers most of that along with more consumer friendly inputs/outputs, a physical design that will be easier to hold, and of course Honeycomb which offers so much more for me over the Apple OS 4.3

iPad 2
I agree the only thing I like about the iPad 2 is the cover, which if I am honest really is brilliant in its simplicity, utility, and awesomeness. Other than that...
Still, I am not sure which device best fits my needs (I just know I want to support small innovators) My problem is that I am a grad student who is trying to go paperless. I try and read my articles, grade my papers and read my news on a monitor, and it might be nice to have something that I could hold rather than put on my lap.
Also pretty sure that 7 inches is just too small (maybe 10 is too big) who knows...I wish there were more brick and mortar stores where I could try them out.

The Xoom is available to try out at best buy. So you could at least get an idea of what 10inch's is like as well as Honeycomb vs. the Apple OS.
The LG Optimus Pad and supposedly a new Galaxy Tab are coming out with 8.9inch screens.
If you are focusing on the Adam for its Pixel Qi screen for reading I would research more reviews on how it does indoors vs. outdoors. I opted to order the LCD version only since I don't plan on using it as an e-reader or for outdoor purposes. I mainly want it to replace my personal laptop that i lug around whenever I travel just to check email/surf the web/ and watch movies.

I ordered mine feb 5 and received it yesterday if it helps any.

I consider that good news for 9th orders. Means that the promised 3rd March shipping date is still realistic.
Edit: Actually, bad news. Means I'll have to start checking the pre-order site multiple times a day now out of sheer compulsive curiousity.

My Feb 9th order has shipped

I realize that Notion is a small company, but how can they think they will stay in business when people can't figure out how to order or have to wait a ton?
I like the idea of the Adam, but not the idea of waiting to pre-order then waiting a month or more for my unit.
So is it worth the wait?

Depends on what your needs/wants are in a tablet.
I came to the decision of handing my money over to Notion Ink instead of any other company for the following reasons:
- 2 x Full USB 2.0 Ports
- Tegra 2
- 6 Physical Buttons (4 on the face, Back button and Power button on the side)
- Full HDMI Out
- Ergonomical Design
- Promise of Honeycomb
- $425 price tag

I too am wondering if this tablet is worth the wait. I ordered mine Feb 14 and I am tired of waiting. My original estimated ship date was now pushed back to 3/3-3/10. This is insane. I have no idea how these guys intend to run a successful company doing business like this. This is absolutely unacceptable. If this estimated ship date is pushed back one more time I am going to cancel my order. And if they give me any sh*t going that route I'll simply refute the charges and let my AMEX deal with this B.S.
Of course, I hope I don't have to go that route and I hope I will receive an email shortly telling me my Adam has shipped. I really want this device but refuse to wait around like a scorned lover begging for attention. I'm paying good money. It's not like I won this thing in a contest and am waiting on them to ship one once they have extras. This is INSANE!!!

I bought the Adam because of the reasons I posted above. No other company is putting a tablet out that offers the same functionality.
With that said....
There is a BIG reason why they are calling this a "PRE-ORDER". They are a small company, they did not have the money and means to start mass producing these. But from what we read from Rohan they are growing quickly and starting to strategically plan for a larger roll out that also includes better support.
Adam is their first product, they are dedicating resources towards designing the next one. This kind of innovation is a beautiful thing. I don't understand how people "expect" this ordering experience to be similar to that of purchasing an Apple or Motorola product.

What are the price-points of the various options?
My friend and I both just recently signed up for pre-orders but who knows when the next batch will roll out....just trying to plan ahead!

Of course I wouldn't expect it to be like buying an Apple or Moto product. The surprising part is their website is a little too filled with mystery. The tech audience in general is not a patient bunch and signing up for unknown pre order dates and long waits wont fly with everyone. For their own sake I hope they can step up production a bit. I do believe their pricing is very good from what I could find but having to google them vs being front and center on their site is kinda lame.

lines aren't bad. I was actually one of the first 50 but gave up my spot after talking to the Samsung rep. they're quite disorganized tho

i got there at 11am. i was honestly turned off by the whole experience. the Samsung reps don't know when they will be shipping the grey models. they just told me to keep checking. it really seemed like they were not ready to release this thing yet.

Any word on when the 8.9 will be available?

Time is ticking. The tablet market is hot, and moving very rapidly. All tablet manufacturers have to push these things out as fast as they can, before more competition gets their units out, ramp up production, or newer, better models come along. They don't really have time to come out with a polished and well planned launch. I'm sure this is why it was a NYC only event. They just weren't ready for a full launch, but are trying to get these released as quickly as possible.

if you were there at the launch, you'd be too.
1) no announcements were made that they only had the 16gb white model. there were a lot of people who were waiting longer than me who left the line after hearing the Samsung rep tell me about that. they all wanted a 32gb model, due to the lack of micro sd slot.
2) Samsung reps had no idea when the rest of the models will be available. no eta. only told me to keep coming back. it was a disorganized launch. there were gaps in information between Samsung reps and Best Buy employees. the Samsung rep even admitted that they had to ship some models last second just to even have demo versions.
don't get me wrong.. i'll be going back there again tomorrow in hopes that they suddenly get some new shipments of the grey 32gb model.. fingers crossed.

i bought the 16gb white model the only model available , was planning to get the metallic grey , might return this for the metallic grey once that comes out.
Also got the free leather sleeve . the line wasn't too bad i reached there exactly at noon.

I bet the grey will be out on the 17th. I would be a little bit miffed to get there & wait only to find they have 16GB white models if I was wanting grey or a higher capacity.
They talked the release up enough that they should have mentioned that model was to be the one released.
I'm still bombed at still no word on the 8.9.
I think i'll give it a few more weeks after that I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and place an order for the iPad2 :-|

Yeah it was super fishy that the annouced launch way back from Jan of this year was a one Best Buy only launch with the rest coming a week later.
It appears now from your experience that you are dead on correct, they simply wernt and still ARE NOT ready to launch but are scrambling to get them ready.
The sad part is that the average non XDA tablet buyer will be non the wiser until a major new publication decides to cover this.
My biggest question is this: What is the exact count of 16GB white versions avaliable at Best Buy today?

I would buy the 16gb white one then.... wait and return for whatever tablet you want.

i asked.. Samsung rep couldn't tell, Best Buy employee didn't know. there really was that disconnect. i also asked them if there was an option for those of us there that showed up - if we could get some sort of email or phone notification if the model we wanted came in stock at the store.. nope. no luck

i waited this long already. i can wait another week or so

I'm personally not upset the white 16gb was wat i wanted anyways, but i forgot about the leather sleeve, since i doubt the sold 200.

Anybody in the area stop in and see how many of these are still left in stock or estimate of how many has been sold?

I got there after 2pm and they had stacks on the desk where the samsung employees were demoing. I would b shocked if they become out of stock. They had alot of keyboards, docks and folio cases also.

so its safe to say their strategy was a smashing failure. hope this expedites their worldwide launch. they should've premiered elsewhere

I was going to attempt to make a trip out.. glad I didn't.
I pre-ordered mine on bestbuy.com and got 18 months no interest financing (not that I need it or care for it, I guess it is just kind of cool to get)

I so want it but i'm not going to have the cash till the end of the week. i can't post link just search "Asus - Tablet with 16GB Memory - Brown" on their site.

I went and looked at it today and while I really liked it, I'm having a hard time spending the money with the Prime right around the corner. Definitely a great deal...

I'm looking to get one soon and I'm not sure about the "brown" part of the deal. I've seen it, it looks more like bronze. It's not completely hideous but I wonder if the price won't drop just a little more when Prime is released or during an after Christmas sale.

Must have been a very short time that they had that up. I'm looking at their website now and it's $399.

I wonder why they changed the model numbers and why bestbuy is showing this as a "New" product, and they also have the original for sale for 399. go figure
The og was model TF101-A1 (B1 for 32gb) and this one is TF101-X1... I wonder 1. why they changed the model # and 2. Why on earth would they still sell the A1 model for 399 when the X1 is 299???

I got my TF101-X1 on Black Friday, and I think the only difference is the box...basically brown with no picture. My guess is that BB is going to try to sell the leftovers from BF on-line, vs. leaving these in the stores. It's also a B90, so the best way to root it is via Razorclaw. I wasn't sure if I wanted it because of the impending release of the TF201, and didn't even open it until I found out that BestBuy will take it back all the way up to January 24! with no restocking charge.

Anyone thinking of ordering from bestbuy.com might want to read their forums, they are having some kind of meltdown that is resulting in a LOT of complaints.

The reason for the different sku # is where they don't have to price match the black ones. Got to love their commercials about how they will price match though.

Yes, well, I agree, but I wanted to warn people without turning this into a BB bash thread. I'm waiting for some orders from BB myself and I'm not happy about it. They are pulling the stock number trick with the Transformer, and there is even a thread about that on that forum (not me!), so you can only get it at that price on line.

Lots of TF went back to ASUS for various reasons over last 5-6 months. it is possible the "X" stock numbers are refurbs. Be interested to see what serial #s are.

They would have to tell you it was a refurb and the black friday ad and the current ad say nothing about a refurb. The X1 stock number is to make it harder to price match since no other stores have that model number.

Exactly. A lot of stores have done that for a long time to make it harder to compare. It used to be that if you were big enough Sony (for example) would make a special run for you with a slightly different official model number. Now they just lie and enter it into their system with an extra "X" or "1" or a couple leading zeros so they can disclaim any price match. Bestbuy.com is not actually associated with the stores, and they like it that way; they can and do have different pricing. The stores don't have to honor the on line prices.

I picked both tablet and keyboard dock from bbuy on blackfriday and was too surprised they arrived in a bronze color instead of black. But the color is nice and gives it a distinct look unlike all the others in the market. Works well and is pretty fast, screen is awesome.
Going to grab another one if it is still at $299.

While it is true big-box merchants are able to have suppliers build BF-specific goods, fortunately the BB execution of the X1/vB90 is only different in packing (BB is big enough for this). I have not seen/read indications the X1 is not the A1. With TF201 around the corner, the timing of the marked-down TF101 was perfect. My 2hrs-40mins start/finish is well worth the T1.
The BF rush works, last I read BF-2011 wkend made $37.6B (yes that’s a B). Just take look at what folks are buying through the checkout queue – items at full retail.

Anyone else rather disappointed at how Google handled the release?

I find it quite unprofessional to have people pre order a device in September and have them arrive 2 months later. How can you announce your best phone ever (for both companies) and be so woefully prepared for the demand it might incur? I'm having second thoughts on getting the phone since I have no idea when I might receive mine since Google and Huawei have yet to get their act together in rolling out the product

Yep, best by far. Especially after being involved with the 4, 5 and 6 failed launches!

This is my favorite so far. No issues thus far.

Best handling it this way rather than having people refresh the page every second because product went out of stock within 2 minutes of release.(previous nexus releases)

Ordering process yes. However... Shipping order is jacked up AGAIN. Ordered 9/29 within 15 min of link going live. 32GB Graphite. There are people with tracking information that purchased 10/21 and have shipping confimation while mine sits in processing purgatory. Card was final charged 3 days ago. Still hasn't gone anywhere. This happens to me every year.

Almost as bad as a Best Buy launch ....

I don't mind this release style at all. I really don't see what OP concern is. Google has turned a 'quickest to order before servers crash' to 'just order and be patient, we won't charge you'

Disappointment? That would imply I had expectations which conflict with what was promised. I have no such expectations.
In the announcement event, they simply said "later in October" concerning ship dates. During the preorder process, everything was clearly spelled out. How could I be disappointed? My only expectation is that the products I ordered will arrive safely by the time they indicated.

I'm pleased with the order process this time around. As for delays well that is common on pre orders these days. I'm just happy that I got to order, much better than trying to catch a one or two minute in stock window like in the past.

Disappointed, nah. one of the biggest tech company in world can't handle preorder. How the hell do you sell out preorder? Just take the damn order and give a 4-5 weeks eta. Don't tell me you can't get huawei to make your phones in 5 weeks.

I'm rather disappointed that Germany was not a part of the countries that could preorder it first. I simply don't get it...

It's a pain yes. But it happens this way every year. I'm just surprised they haven't fixed it much over the years. I'm waiting on a Frost 64GB - No one has gotten a Frost yet, so we'll see if the ship date is hit, Nov 2.

Like previous people have mentioned. Most (if not all) of the Nexus launches were pretty terrible.
I wasn't expecting much so no .. not disappointed.

I ordered, was given an estimated ship date and it has shipped early. I call that a success.

You do realise that these were pre-orders, right? This is exactly how the concept of a pre-order works.

Dissapointed, yes. The roll out in the US might be not that bad. But there are other countries besides US. In Europe we are still waiting to preorder. Such a slow rollout. Google needs to learn from Apple and bring their **** together and roll out the devices from day one.

On Motorola's US site it says the G4 is in stock and estimated delivery July 21st. I didn't go past that on the order form but wasn't sure if it was available. Next day or 2 day shipping options anywhere else? Where do you guys suggest. My old phone payment will come out Friday so hoping I can get this done by Friday and port my number to the new carrier. AT&T is most likely the option for me.

Your local Best Buy likely has it and their (our) website has shipping available to most places in the US for Monday (or Saturday if your local UPS does it)

It has to be built and shipped from China. If they say 7/21 it's probably right, maybe 1 day sooner.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don't need a custom phone just want the 64 GB 4GB version. I work at Amazon and usually use Amazon but listings got screwy once it was released. The pre-order prices were all dead on. Post launch its over priced crap sellers. The official one in the listing said 2GB Ram 64 Internal so I could see a potential wrong phone shipped to me. Its a tough work week with us having prime day the 12th so a lot going on. I might not get a chance to get to best buy until Friday. Can I leave their with a working phone on pre-paid or would I have to do all that in the car on the way to work and hope its easy. I'm a use the PC type guy. I really don't want to run the chance of being sold out. I don't know how sales are going. Really don't want to wait til Friday to have a back order happen to me. I had a OnePlus 2 but after enough research I sent it back after a week without it ever being hooked up. Just way to many hardware/software issues from that phone with horrible customer service. That company gives off the feel that a real small group built a phone with expensive parts. Rushed through the process and hired 100 amateurs to build their phones and fix them. So basically I've been on a Rooted JB to KitKat Dual Core, 1GB Ram phone since Xmas 2014 and honestly I'm excited like a kid, ha.
