Hello,
I'm trying to fill a table useful to understand how much RAM is really available to the user in Android Phones.
Please try "Free Memory" by coconuts on the market or the "free" command in Terminal to let me know the total RAM of your device so that I can understand how much is reserved for hardware operations.
Please also say which ROM are you using.
Thanks
max. 335mb available

Available meaning total detected? That's a bit low

The Xperia Arc only has 512MB of RAM to begin with, so 335MB shouldn't be too much of a shocker.

As you can see in the chart is the 512 MiB phone with most reserved RAM apart from the 2.1 Android Samsung Galaxy S.
@poochie - the Arc is running on 2.3.. not 2.2..

Now on my nexus s only has total 345mb free avail only 180mb. Previously was better on my dell streak total 470mb, avail 320 mb.
I prefer saying nexus S only has 384MB = 512 - 128 MB

Sorry but I didn't understand exactly, does your Nexus S report 345 total MB or 384?
Got 336mb and overall free 100 mb cant even multitask properly in xperia neo v
ArcS, Gingerbread 150MB free, not using Timescape but GoLauncher instead, dunno if that makes a difference.
Arc S 420Mb total. 319Mb free (JJ rom v4)
Also using LINK2SD, using second FAT16 partition of 750MB
All user apps linked to sd-ext
All rom base apps + Adobe Flash 11 on Phone Memory
We're talking about RAM, not phone memory, here

got an arcS too, 335 total and around 150 available initially. saying that it has 512mb is super deceptive on the part of the manufacturer. like the neo guy its hard to do real multitasking. the android system n kernel itself takes about 170mb apart from the humungous portion of the 512mb ram reserved for some unknown purposes. i am going on a strike!

Hi, All
Don't you think it would be sweet, if there was Radio released like the HD2 Update that unlocked 64MB Extra memory for the Nexus One.
The comparison with the Desire would be finished.

It would be nice, but it's already so fast I don't think it would make a difference for the majority of Nexus One users.

Dont understand why you need it. Just looked at my phone with 19 processes running and 200 Mb avail. At any given time I never have less than 100Mb free mem. Does the Sense UI use more memory? Is that why you think we need more?

I know that, but still will change the mind of future buyers
I find it funny this is coming from someone running the stock rom which means he's not getting all the ram there regardless...but hey, that's just me

Sense UI doesn't use much more I usually have 100MB to 200MB free with Sense UI. Also my phone feels much smoother with Sense UI rather than stock. On top of all that, we don't even have all our 512MB unlocked. I think its like 395MB.

The operating uses RAM in order to run. Same reason why you don't see 2 GB of free ram on a desktop that only has 2 GB of ram.
yea 250 sounds about right. mine has 258 free with opera running.
also, you don't have 576 to play with, cos the graphics chipset takes 128, so you only really get 448, so you are using 192, meaning you currently have about 55% free.
Thank you for your responses .
i've putted android on nand and hardware informormation tell me that i've got 431 mb of ram
some where i've read that with android on nand the htc hd2 unlock the 576 mb of ram it's true? i made an error installing android?
no, its simply not available yet, maybe in the future... with nand it is possible
ok thanks so it's normal that i have the 440 mb of ram?

well... you're sure its 440mb? normally android builds have around 412 mb
yes i've got 412 mb of ram i made a mistake because memory booster told me: total ram 432706112 bite
I think we are using full ram already, just as we were with sd android builds. Just some of the ram is for video and system, so its not user accessible.

mhh not sure about that, because hardware info would say 576mb ram then, like on every other android phone. you will see there full ram also, and not only the space which is reserved for programs
edit:
you dont have access to full ram in winmo also, you see only the space which is accessible for your apps and stuff. but when you look at hardware info it will show you, that your phone has 576mb ram. thats what i mean.
I think there was a thread explaining it somewhere, but I'm pretty sure that we're not getting anymore RAM than we already have.

I thought some later winmo ROMS unlocked some missing RAM on Euro models, if so this could be done in Android to? - damn our inferior Euro models !!!
hope some brother can hack full ram on HTC eur, my phone show the total of Ram is 412 MB not 576 mb>> sad... if it possible that wonderful!!!
Quick question since I'm probably trading my cappy for a hd2
When installing android, how much RAM do you get if you install nand or sd? I've heard you get more on sd android right?
Does it effect speed installing android on sd compared to nand?
And I can install swype on the hd2 right?
Cheers and thanks

for RAM i had the same for SD or NAND (Both around 200MB)
NAND is faster than SD and also less battery consuming.
yes swype is available

Thanks, I was looking to trade my cappy and the guy who I'm planning to trade with me told me he was getting around 400mb RAM on nand android and 700mb on sd android......
But he said he only had like 20 apps.......
Could that be true?
Thanks again

Swyped from my captivating device running darky with onix
not sure since i'm not using the t-mobile version.
what i got is: 448MB of ram then when all apps killed 200-240MB of RAM left

And i'm starting to confuse..
Does it means the total memory? (ex. cache part. + system part. .... etc.) ??
just a mistake
maybe they wanted to say 125 MB..but it's still wrong...
I don't know..Anyway, it's indeed a mistake..
But in the bottom page it says available space for application 1.25 GB
Hoping some day devs can reveal those space (if that spec is for real)
