Need help un-rooting Gingerbreak! - Droid X General

Works great for my DX, however, I need to un-root it and I've tried several ways from other forums and I am not having any luck.
Does anyone know the procedure to un-root for GingerBreak?
I don't have Gingerbread installed either, I'm just running 2.2.1 - I don't know if this makes a difference when trying to un-root this. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. I've been scouring trying to find a solution and I've had no luck yet. I've tried rooting then unrooting when the one-click program and that isn't helping me either. Any suggestions??
(If you're wondering I have no idea why I chose this way to root especially since I didn't have Gingerbread installed)

if you cant find a different way, doing an sbf and a factory reset will take you back to stock, unrooted, out of the box state.

If you install z4root, it should detect that you are rooted and give you the option to unroot. Have you tried that? And jw, why do you want to unroot?

z4root uses a different exploit then gingerbreak, so it will not be able to undo it.

Downgraded from rooted 2.2 to 2.1 and cannot root anymore.

I've read over the forums quite a few times and am stumped. For some reason i cannot get rooted again after SBF flashing to 2.1. I've used the one click root program and while it says the root was successful, i go into adfree, titanium backup, and wifi tether and all tell me that i am not rooted. Super permissions doesn't seem to work either.
I've flashed my phone six times and have had the same results, so i was wondering if anyone else had this problem or could help me out. I just want to root and get back to 2.2 again, but i don't see why I'm having such difficulties when I've had success before in the past. I'm trying to give all the information i can, but there isn't really much to it. I followed all the steps in the HOW TO downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 link in this very forum.
If anyone can help me or tell me whats going on, I'd be in their debt forever.

Six times? Did you try the 7th????
http://alldroid.org/Default.aspx?tabid=40&g=posts&m=5164#5164
But anyways...did you try to root in manually instead of doing it with one click?
Ok the seventh time was in fact the charm. I just upgraded to 2.2 without root and then SBF flashed to 2.1 again and now when i root, it actually takes and adfree tells me im rooted and super permissions kicks in. I could just not figure out what was going on because it didn't make any sense. It still doesn't, but hey problem solved so i'm not gonna speculate. Anyways thanks for the time.

Rooted Then Updated Then Lost Root??

I recently rooted my atrix with superoneclick then i accidently updated then i belive i still had my root until i went to install a 3d theme then my phone crashed and wouldnt get past the at&t screen so i had to erase everything now on my phone i still have "super user" in my app draw but i cannot side load apps did i lose my root? what do i have to do to sideload apps again ? and i guess re root my phone
Yes i am a newb i am comming from IOS and an iPhone 4 please dont flame
If you updated, you mean 4.1.57, this is what I did to re-root when I lost mine after updating and SuperOneClick wouldn't work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013931
Ok so i read that so basically i have to flash my phone back to default then root again?
Yeap, that's exactly what I did, but in that same thread, I think someone else outlined using aRoot to go over SuperOneClick.

Also, if I need aRoot, can I run it over top SuperOneClick, or would it be best to unroot, run aRoot (or let the script root) and then run the script?
I appreciate all the hard work I've seen done in these forums and appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Yes you may safely run aroot over superoneclick. Aroot is the recommended method because it cleans up a lot of things Superroneclick does.

Thank you both. I believe I will try running aRoot over my SuperOneClick root and then try out the script. Thanks again!

Yup the aRoot script is used in the GladiAtrix and possibly the GingerBlur rom as well. Either way. SOC is crap, not meant for atrix anyway. aRoot was written specifically for the Atrix. If you want to update to 4.1.57 read through the retain root thread over in atrix development.
after update, i can still see "su" installed in /system/bin/
I am unable to use it, getting permissioned denied message, any solutions ?

This has been explained many times. updating kills root, even though you still have superuser installed. to retain root you need to use the script in the development section when updating from 1.26 to 1.57. flash back to 1.26 and try again.

[Q] i Cannot root again...( since V. 2.3.4)

hi. i updated my phone to 2.3.4 (sys 4.5.91 us) and i cannot get my root back. im pretty new to root but i do not want anything but root. not unlock, not new rom, not anything except root.
i had the latest version of Android and used Gingerbreak and i was extremely happy as it was so easy for me to do. i had root and that's all i wanted. but now... i updated to 2.3.4 and i did not unroot before this (maybe this is my problem) but my phone is fine, everything runs great. but i cannot root it. i used this walk-through http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/motorola-atrix-hacks/4414-how-root-motorola-atrix-all-versions-including-stock-locked-2-3-4-a.html and finished it all. everything went through and i still don't have root.
i have done it 3 times now and successfully competed the steps. i still have no root. can someone direct me or walk me through another way of rooting or by chance giving me advice on what to do so i can get root? im not a scientist and i know it doesn't take one...but all i know is i just cant get my phone rooted and want it rooted badly.
someone please help me. i searched all over the forums and keep finding the steps i followed and then also found unlock steps(something i do not want to do)
all i want is root. please keep that in mind.

I used this method on my OTA gingerbread.
At first, it gave me errors and pretty much wouldn't work past command line, but in reality, Superuser was installed and I was able to launch it.
Do you have Superuser in your app drawer?
yes i do have super user. and i am able to launch it. but it does not unlock anything.
i got no errors. i did everything correctly and still i dont have root access. maybe im missing something?? i try to run Titanium backup and it said no root access. said the same thing with Root explorer.
superuser runs... but it doesnt have anything unlocked. i try to update superuser and it wont let me.

hmm, you can try going to manage apps and clearing superuser's data, and then maybe attempt the process again.
I had to clear data to get superuser to do anything at all when I rooted.
i read that before i attempted it the third time. i cleared data then completed the steps and still... my superuser runs but apparently i do not have root access.
superuser does not ask if i want to allow for root access for any programs like TB or Root Explorer as it should.

and i meant that i had read about that before attempting the entire process for the third time. i read on another post that someone had it installed already and had to clear the data so... i did that before my third attempt.
still no root!

[Q] I think my root is jacked up

I tried searching but couldn't find anything related...
I was rooted before I upgraded to 4.5.141. I saw a post of someone saying they used an app called rootkeeper to temporarily disable root, installed the update, then used rootkeeper to reroot. I tried that, but now none of the apps that require root access are working properly. Is there a way to remove root from my phone? I want to remove it so I can root using the other method. thanks
And can this be done without flashing back to factory? I don't want to lose my phone's configuration
Are you sure you are rooted right now?
Try Root Checker to make sure.
i too am in the same boat with you. I ran the root checker and it confirms i'm SOL.
I just want my wifi tether back.
I don't really even remember how i rooted last summer. guess it's back to the research

or just use kennethpenn's instructions, steps are in order

I followed the instructions in the last post, but got stuck on a certain step... something about not enough memory. I ended up flashing the sbf and retried to root process. Working fine now. Thanks to all

Live4nyy... thanks, followed your link and it did the trick. To answer your question, "yes, that was so hard"
it is difficult to know which method to use because there seems to be lots of different ways.
thanks

Frustrated, want to reset.

Okay, quick rundown: I have a Droid X that was rooted and overclocked, loved it. Verizon pushed their OTA update and I lost root. Ever since then, the phone has been acting buggy (freezing, need to pull battery several times a day, etc), so I'm confident that was what caused it (other than rooting - and I used a 1-click method to do that - I have not messed around with anything on the phone, and I have very few apps - maybe a dozen or two). I have tried and tried to find a way to regain root access, with no success. I then tried to unroot, again with no success. I'm ready to just say "screw it" and start over fresh; however, all the tutorials I have found to re-flash my phone are from 2011 (at the latest), and I don't want to brick my phone because I used an outdated tutorial. So I turn to you guys for help.
No, I don't want to re-root. I can try and screw around with that in the future (possibly - I really only rooted because I wanted to overclock, just for the sake of saying "rooted and overclocked"). I tried the un-root guide I found on here (using pete's motorolla tools) with no success. I'm fairly tech savvy, but nowhere near the level of most of you.
Basically, I just want to be pointed in the direction of an easy way to flash my phone back to it's factory settings, as if it's never been opened.
Also, while I'm at it, is there a way to back up my apps on my computer? Most of my apps are free, but I'd rather not have to pay (again) for the ones I did have to buy.
I'm running a Droid X on verizon. Running 2.3.4. I just checked for system updates, and it says I'm up to date. If you need any more info from me, feel free to ask.
You can find the .621 SBF file you will need here:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/17934-602-sbf/
You will also need to download RSD Lite to flash the SBF file.
Note: RSD Lite can be found at the above link.
You can find the drivers you need in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258599
Also, all apps that you have purchased can be redownloaded from the play store after you've returned to stock, at no extra charge.
Thanks. Where can I find a tutorial on how to flash it to stock?

They're all over the place. You just have to search a little, I recommend looking in YouTube for a video tutorial.
