I wanted to have a new thread with some scarce information about SGS3 in one place.
We had heard that next gen SGS3 would have a new screen called Ultra Amoled, and the CPU speed was to get bumped up.
Eldar Murtazin of mobile-review.com has some interesting contacts on the inside and has provided good leaks.
His latest tidbit of info
http://www.mobile-review.com/articles/2011/birulki-116.shtml
Loosely translated:
"I have not yet seen iP5, but I know what the device looks like that was created to compete with iP5. What stands out in that design is two things: edge-to-edge screen, with practically no space between the screen and the sides of the phone; and no home key in the lower half, it has only sensors under one piece of surface. This area will use a screen with gesture control (a screen, not capacitive buttons). Very thin body. Metal right now, but quite possible that the company will again settle on plastic. Better camera, new generation of screen technology with higher resolution. A large number of miscellaneous improvements. And all this in the same time frame with iP5".
The piece where he says that the body in the prototype he saw is metal, but would probably change AGAIN to plastic, makes me think he saw a Samsung SGS3.
So please update this thread with whatever new you hear about SGS3 and the time to market for it.
thanks
Edit 2011-04-25
Here is short summary of the rumors for SGS3
Release: Autumn 2011
Screen: Ultra Amoled, at least qHD resolution, (some say 1024x720 4.5 inches but it is a weird aspect ratio; others say the screen will be new "reflective" Amoled tech that looks only better under the sun)
Design: aluminum unibody with edge-to-edge screen, thinner than SGS2
Battery: 1800 mAh
Memory: 1.5 GB Ram, support for micro SDXC external cards 32 GB to 2 TB
Edit 2011-04-27
Eldar now says that in the Fall there will be SGS3 but it will only be an evolutionary "cosmetic change" redesign: better and bigger at 4.5" screen with higher resolution and potentially metal body, no mechanical buttons on the front.
one step at a time, dude
Haha... My thoughts exactly! Don't give people dreams of waiting for another year for this device to come out. The SGS II is blazing fast for now, the SGS III will be at par with the industry requirements a bit later.
To early fo sgs3.
While we haven't even seen the SGS2 widely available yet, the timing for this thread is legit. I would argue otherwise but the SGS3 is pitted against the iphone 5, not the iphone 6. so a starting an early discussion in April for a phone that is expected before 2012 is reasonable.
So what phone is super thin with the metal back with the translated article under it? The new iPhone/ipod mock up? I seen a ipod icon in the lower right of the mock phone/mp3 players dock...and the obvious safari browser icon...

For me now GSII, if all the things that eldar says are real on November, then GS3 for me in November.
But, you really cant trust in rumors for the future, most of the times are fake and if you wait for the next thing, you will never buy anything.

Eldar actually made a good theory about the patent litigation Apple started. He says it was not about SGS or SGS2. He thinks Apple found out about SGS3 that was intended to directly compete with iP5 in the fall, and that had crazy specs, and decided to strike preemptively.
Makes sense to me. If SGS3 is indeed as thin or thinner than SGS2, has faster dual or quad core CPU, and has Ultra Amoled High Res edge to edge screen - I just do not see what Apple can fight this with, except a patent infringement suit.

Not clear what this means man sorry
If you are referring to the white phone render in the article I linked in the OP, that is an early mock up of iP5 by Josh Topolsky , he has a "more precise" mockup on his web site:

How would any of the things going on right now affect the SGS3, which has not been even announced yet?
Also hardware doesn't really matter when it comes to apple products - branding is everything. Samsung could release the best phone ever and the iphone would still lead the sales charts.

at that rate of release the sgs4 would be released in time for Christmas this year.
Maybe it is not sgs3 but you can be sure they have designs for new phones. The Samsung Infuse was introduced a good long time before the sgs2 and it was an improvement on the sgs1

That's disappointing, I thought SGS 3 was supposed to have Hyper Amoled... Oh well, I'll just wait for the Galaxy S 4 !
This is just stupid. In this industry you can always wait and something better will come. At some point you just have to buy something. And I think now is a pretty good time to get a powerful new phone.
In 2 Weeks at IO, Google will announce the new OS for Android phones and I think they will release it pretty soon like they did it with froyo last year. As soon as we get the source we'll get it for our GSII's, because right now no one can compete with the GSII Hardware-wise and I think we'll get plenty of good devs working on it.
I preordered the GSII, because my Desire's lack of GPU Power. Soon Android will get a fully Hardware-Accelerated UI and I don't think that my Adreno 200 can handle that.
^ Yeah may as well wait for the SGS10 with in-built tricorder.

Woah!!!! Hell of a phone,
Only sprint? Cuz if its not then that's my next phone too, any pics? We looking at a november? December?
Eh, reminds me of when people speculated the next palm webos phone.
Let's see if this exists.
If HTC keeps coming up with phones, they're going to run out of names.
They need to freaking keep a line going.
So Evo 2, Evo 3... etc.
They have so many phones cause they all have different names but some are basically the same.
Also, why is this in the Evo general forum?

Lol..and i'am loving it
Updated 1st post!!
Lol I'm not waiting for a speculated phone, I'll put up full cash if it's ever available.
Whoever fed you that is full of it. Super-Amoled technology is not being licensed currently, Samsung has publicly said that for now they will hold out on licensing out the screen technology to other phone manufacturers to make their new Galaxy S line. The LAST company they'd want to give their new screen technology to is HTC which right now is their rival in the smart phone industry.
Actually samsung has been making LCD's and AMOLED's for HTC for a long while.
Of course it's probably safe to say they screwed them over by cutting supply.
Probably to steal all their customers who were outraged with waiting too long and getting a different display than promised (novatek v. epson)
HTC doesn't make displays and probably never will. They get em from whose got em.
Nearly forgot the point of this thread.
I'll be the first to say it. I don't want a 2GHZ phone, no effing thanks.
Why don't you optimize the architecture and work on your fabrication to reduce power draw before worrying about god damn ghz.
****ing marketing schemes.
Maybe Super-TFT
2.5 isn't Gingerbread. Its 3.0. It has already been established.

I was refrencing Super-AMOLED screens not AMOLED which are quite different but you're right about them liscencing out their AMOLED technology, but then again even they've said it's not very good especially in sun light.
OzcarGuide is about as real as Beyonce's beautiful hair. I don't know if Jackson (Supersonic) really told them that ridiculous info, but it's incorrect. That's not the "HTC Scorpion" like device that Sprint and HTC has been working on, and it definitely isn't coming out this year. WiMax 802.16 Enhanced will most likely replace our current WiMax by then.

"According to OZCARGuide"
I would say this is a made up rumor for now.
2.5 (gingerbread)? Really? Later this year? We're half way through and 2.2 hasn't even finished rolling out. 2.2 is meant to be Google's step towards reducing fragmentation...
Doubtful pushing out phones with a new version of the OS every 2 months is part of the "reducing fragmentation" plan.
This is going to be pretty useless unless they put like a 3000 mah battery in it. A 2 ghz processor will kill a 1500 mah in a matter of a couple of hours easily.
The next generation of HTCs will have the 1.2ghz dualcore snapdragon, not this 2ghz rumor.
And even if they did have an actual 2ghz htc device coming out this year (in neverland perhaps), until batteries catch up to these phones, you would basically have a landline cuz it would be 90% plugged into the wall.
About the screen.... the article says "their own version of SuperAMOLED". According to the article, they aren't getting it from Samsung, they are developing their own.
I also think a phone released in that timeframe would have a 1.2GHz processor rather than 2GHz.
Is this the Nexus S?

Woah, what do we have here? A new "In Store" web-based flier from Best Buy Mobile has this little nugget on its front page: a previously unseen Galaxy S, running stock Android (possibly 2.3, based on the green icons and black notifications bar) and harboring what looks to be a front facing camera. Sounds like a Nexus S to us! Paired with this morning's little Nexus S slip-of-the-tongue from Best Buy, we're starting to get our hopes up. Don't let us down, Google / T-Mobile / Samsung / Best Buy / planet earth!

Unfortunately no Trackball

Bah, if it has anything less than a next-gen Hummingbird or Nvidia Tegra 2, it's a worthless sidegrade, not a true successor.

Agreed. A hummingbird cpu is not a huge leap forward from a snapdragon in terms of everday use. It might have better gaming capabilites, but nothing out right now even makes use of it. Dual core A9 or tegra 2 is a true upgrade. Loss of trackball + loss of premium build means i will stick with the N1 until the true N2 is out. But this is a great phone for people who dont have nexus ones.
Depending on the specs i might get it, Im tired of the constant "LOw Space" message thats the only problem I have with my nexus one. I love the way it feels in my hand and I hate the vibrants plastic cheap and too light feel. It feels like if it falls its going to shatter. Might buy it and put a cover so I wont have to feel the cheap plastic lol
{Delete Me}
Why does everyone give HTC so much credit for not challenging themselves? They make a midgrade product and optimize it while their users thumb their noses at a company that may make a product that is overly ready for the software that's out. Should it be Samsung's fault for raising the bar or Google's fault for not meeting them? Should Samsung start lowering their standard so they can meet market demand for more updates? I find there are a bunch of conflicting business models here.
Software compatibility and hardware aren't always the same. We bought the epic [those of us who know our ass from our hands] bc it had the right hardware to stand the test of time which in the cell phone world means at least 2 years. Its all that can be expected. The rest is hope....

qhd display, dual 1.2 ghz cpu and 1gig of ram is not good enough?
did samsung push themselves when they made the transform?
how about the continuum?
What about the infuse and charge?
Samsung vibrant 4G
how about the nexus S?
I thought this was suppose to be the showcase of what phones are to become but samsung dropped the ball on this one. It is nothing more then a downgraded epic! It should of at least had the 4.3" super AMOLED plus screen and have a dual core processor. Then googled might of optimized their future software on samsung specs which would of made more manufacture buy more samsung components.
No notification LED no SD card slot and you in love with samsung?
The only galaxy series phone that had everything was the epic. It had the best feel of quality, there other ones do feel cheap. It has flash, it has a front camera and it has a keyboard which I wish sprint had one without. Let just say sprint did great because I wouldn't of brought this if it didn't have a LED flash or front facing camera. Keyboard was just extra cheese on my cheese pizza.
I brought the epic because it had the best hardware during that time, now i would buy the evo3d because it would have the best hardware if i had to get a phone now.
an optimized 4 cylinder engine is better then a sloppy 6 cylinder. And this is what the epic feels like with the GPS, compass and keyboard issue, a sloppy 6 cylinder engine. It is minor problems and can be fixed through software updates, its too bad samsung doesn't even think twice about products that has already been released.
Samsung should be building towards google future design. If samsung wanted google to design to their future proof hardware they should of designed a better nexus S.
The only company out there that should be praised for pushing the standard is Apple. That is tough for me to say but it is true. No company has gotten to apple's feel of quality (not to be confused with build quality), samsung next gen phone is still a bit thicker then apple's even with the OLED display and the next gen resolution display are still below apple's current resolutions.

And i guess from the love from samsung that you read somewhere in my rant that the evo 3d had a better build quality? Please quote where i even stated that or even assumed it. So from this statement I did not have to state the crooked screen since i never said they were better or worse then samsung's quality in design.
The nexus S came out during the 1st Quarter of this year. They could of easily used the infuse or the charges hardware for the nexus S design or even delayed it for a month if they needed too. Why be like HTC and put in a outdated cpu?
Why are you arguing the fact that HTC did it and they are evil but samsung did it and they are ok. Nexus S should be the phone showing off the companies quality. There is a big reason why most of us stayed with our Epics even though we do not need the keyboard and would love to have a keyboardless epic.
Why are you ignoring that fact about that samsung also makes.

People are knocking it because they expected the Evo 3d to blow people away.when the original Evo came out there really was not much of a competitive market and people chose purely HTC...with that the Evo was the best specced HTC phone..this time around things are A LOT more competitive, you have LG, Motorola, Samsung and other players enter the market with products just as good if not better..
Also a lot of competition in the 4G sector makes wimax not very competitive..(sprint needs to go wimax enhanced already >.>)

its kinda playing a catchup game sgs 2 will be thinner then my guess iphone 5 will be thinner then sgs 3 will be thinner...get it? there are more factors though that go into this then just the screen..for one that thinness could have been done if they took out the sd card port..but would we want that? Apple had to do sacrifices on the Antenna to accomplish that thinness at the time..so whether it was worth it or not is another story..at what point do we go.."this is thin enough" lol
btw apple actually increased thickness on white iphone 4...

No, they didn't. that was a fallacy. White and black iPhones have been measured side by side with micrometers on several sites disproving this.
As informed by gsmarena the galaxy note 2 will have a 5.5 inch screen and will look like the galaxy sIII, which i personally am not too keen on.
http://www.gsmarena.com/exclusive_g...ins_narrower_than_original_note-news-4455.php
That's about as much confirmed as Spain will win the European Championship this Sunday.
I have also heard it will have a 5.4" Flexible OLED screen and neither that is confirmed either.
I'd bet my whole device that the screen WILL be larger by a bit.
You know, as much as I'd love to stay up with current trends, I'm not too moved by the S3 and Note 2. They don't have that much of an edge over the S2 and Note, so it's not really that worth it to upgrade. Again, this is just my views:good:
The styling too is not one that I'm particularly liking, the whole rounded shape and the materials used. Yes, some might say that it's a step in the right direction, but I say there was nothing wrong with the S2 and Note's design in the first place. Even the software loaded on these devices.... Surely they could have rework TouchWiz completely, as it still looks the same even compared to GB.... So, is it worth it to upgrade to the next generation of devices....? Unless your life depends on the latest trends and fashion...... No...
These views are my own, and should not be seen as a generalization. I speak for myself, and not on behave of any other member...
From my point of view, for the time being, the Note 2 current specs are not worth the purchase since the Note 1 has everything I need for my daily use. If the upgraded device has nothing 'New' to give to the market, this will really be a letdown...8mpx cam? 1.5 ram? and still dual core???? be serious, there's nothing to be in awe!
But 1 thing is mostly certain for us : if these specs prove to be true, even if the Note 2 is not a "Big" upgrade of the Note 1, most of us will shift to it once it is released to follow the trend. Early adopters and the tech geeks, will always want to owe the latest devices and not stick to an older one. I'm not personally impress by the Note 2 specs now, but I will certainly get one when it is out like many of you, people...
I don't think they'll go with the Exynos 5250 dual core, even though it is a better chip IMO because if they don't go quad than most wont upgrade

You are right, except that it will be not flexible but inflatable, not 5.4 but 42" and will come with built-in espresso machine (one of those with automatic grinder).
What does "confirmed" even mean here? Some site managers think they'll get attention by running an article of pure imagination, and then GSMArena says, "yes, we agree." Apparently, this is "confirmation." How should GSMArena know? They didn't even say they had a "source."
Does someone feel like saying they saw Bigfoot in Times Square the other day? I've never been to New York, but no matter. I'll come along and "confirm" it for you, just cuz I can.

Kind of reminds me of 2010 hype on new HTC HD3, which rolled on the net and xda for few months, long after it was revealed that some guys concept sheet design was mistaken for the actual spec sheet

Guys if the screen will be larger and the width will be smaller than note1,then i think they will set the screen ration to 16:9 because it will be bit taller and hence lesser width? As per as what i know current notes are coming with wide screen ratios?????
Gsmarena is usually accurate.
It can also be explained by the need for the extra 2 inch meant for nav bar compared to note 1
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Not going to get a Note 2 no matter what spec it has, this one suits me fine and will continue to be my main media device long after I upgrade to a regular android phone.

I'll get a Note2 just cause I use the he'll out if this and want to new hardware.! I I'm neutral on the rounded look.... But they have to change things. How are they gonna sell 10million more.?
People love the big screen so they're gonna make a token increase.
I'd be satisfied happy with the 1.7Ram and new Exynos chip... Quad core just doesn't pan out to much performance increase in the real world less your a monster gamer.

Note = 1280x800 = 16:10
To make it 16:9 they'd either have to drop the resolution to 1280x720, or increase it to something like 1366x768 or 1600x900.
1920x1080 would be nice, but I doubt it'll happen, it'd be total overkill.
If they're not going quadcore, then the Exynos 5250 would be fine given that they can run at 2Ghz and it's got a beefy T-604 GPU instead of the lowly 400. Power usage should be much improved as it's a 35nm processor versus the positively archaic 45nm we have now.

Yeah sure, why anyone could want a Dual core A15 when you can get an inferior A9 quad core?
Off topic : Would be great if there would be a notification led
The screen will be larger for sure but the dimensions of the phone remain same...it has to be quadcore to run JB smoothly....and Yes it will have LED....coz its a sequel to Note and successor of S3....and also a head to head match to Iphone 5

I use bLED. It works fine for me (XXLA4 with JKay_deluxe). Draws negligible power.
To me and the most important thing about the galaxy note 2 is 2 gigs of ram
sent from a 96gb N7000
I simply can't stand notification lights, I remember old pdas, that used to have those annoying flashing leds, that's one more thing I love about the note, that will be the first thing I turn off.
Having a tough time working out how to improve my experience with the note, perhaps yes extra ram would be nice.

OK 1 billion threads I know but its more so a thread of my joy.
See the big boys Samsung/Apple/HTC should be working along the lines of when they bring out their top end phone, its the best one....maybe for a few short months, but that’s the way tech works, wait for one company to bring something out then you better it.
My joy has came from the fact that I was waiting for Apple to trump Samsung, its a newer phone/hype so it will be better, Apples chance to go one up on Samsung, they have the court win (fix ) and a new phone right behind that, times are good, what could go wrong..........oh dear, its not quite the phone we all thought it might be.
Not a Apple fan (was many years ago) but had they brought out a really top end/new ideas phone then it would have been bad news for Samsung (state side) as it is Samsung now have the perfect chance to really push this, they have in a way got off lightly.
It will be very easy for Samsung to make a phone that easily outstrips the ip5, I just hope they take a little bit extra from that tech they are sitting on and really leave other companies behind, but that comes with a high cost.
P.S
Just love how Apple is lost for ideas.
I know the war on trying to bring other firms down to their speed is well under way but its shocking when they are so open about lack of innovation on their side.
There was a write up about the iphone 5 looking like a longer 4s, and the question was put to Apple on why the look of the phone has hardy changed since iphone4, the reply was that they felt it was a great design and that people liked it, and that they don’t see the main shape changing for sometime yet.
Why not simply say
“we don’t have any idea what we could do and we are not willy to take any chances, customers are happy with it so why bother trying any new ideas, but if the sales are not what we wanted then we will make a slight change to the shape........this is Apple after all, we are all about slight changes here”
So comment/delete yet another thread either way I am happy Apple dropped the ball with this one.
Apple has just smashed preorder records over all their other phones. Samsung won't outsell the iPhone, and in terms of specs their phones have always been better anyway.

I think it's 4 million preorders for the iPhone 5.
Also iSheep don't buy a phone because it's the best (like us) they buy a phone because it's an iPhone no other reason. Apple could make a new Nokia 3310 and people would still buy it thinking it's the best because they blindly follow Apple.

Oh and just so it does not need pointed out again
S1 1ghz 5mp camera 720p recording 4inch screen.512 ram
S2 1.2ghz dual core 8mp camera 1080p recording 4.3 inch screen.1gig ram.
S3 1.4ghz quad core 8pm camera 1080p recording 4.8 inch screen.1 gig ram.
Iphone 620mhz no camera 3.5 inch screen..128 ram.
Iphone 3g 620mhz.2mp camera vga recording.3.5 inch screen.128 ram.
Iphone 3gs 833mhz.3mp camera vga recording 3.5 inch screen.256 ram
Iphone 4 1ghz.5mp camera..720p recording 3.5 inch screen.512 ram.

Iphone 5 1.2ghz dual core.8mp camera 1080p recording 4 inch screen. 1gb ram.
It took them 6 phones to make these changes, they went form a 620mhz cpu to 1.2ghz dual core.
From no camera to 8mp 1080p recording.
From 128ram to 1gb ram.
And from a 3.5 inch screen to a..................well 4inch screen.
I know its all been said but to me this is not a big leap over 6 years, Samsung has done more over 3 years.

Agree!! Enjoying every bit of it now. I wish i could donate to CM Team but i don't have PayPal account.
Anyway, back to topic. I heard Samsung made sure S3 is iPhone 5 proof. Meaning they already knew how it would look like and made s3 superior.
W/o Steve Jobs, i don't think there's still life in Apple.
Steve jobs said before he died that he wanted to destroy android, Well i think by him dying he destroyed Apple.

The i5 has 1GHZ dual core...
Anyway,i do agree to that.
Most of apples buyers are dumb...
A youtube video where they showed the people the 4s instead of the 5 and most of them said it's definently better even though it was THE SAME FRICKING PHONE??
Jesus...i wonder who the hell did we get there sometimes...
Well I know I have a good phone when I can do everything I need w/o much tinkerin...I dont like CM and I hardly use modded stuff so I am not spoiled by the custom rom godness and still any stock android phone 2.3 and up have better usability than any iThing up to date. Cant debate usability.
Android top phones come in better specs, and spec is something that can be measured because its a fact that hardware X is faster than Y, cant debate on that when the difference is so great between top android phones and iphone.
The screen size, for me 4.5 is better than 4.8, that we can debate as it is personal preference. Everything else is no brainer for me, real multitask, widgets, the fact that I can chose my default apps, change my ringtone at will, stuff all my mp3 in a sdcard and be happy all day, and the look in my iphone friends faces when I click on a street addres inside gmail and android ask me if I want directions or maps...
Anyone who try to argue that iphone is a better smart phone is wrong, iphone is a better...ipod that make calls...for the hardware it sports and the target market I would say the iphone is still overkill.
Android phones will always have better specs, that's not going to change. Apple sells features not specs and that I mean by that is that Apple will advertise a certain feature, siri, and people will see that and flock, or something like icloud, and people will buy. 5 years ago if you would of told me that the wii would be one of the best selling systems of all time, I would of laughed, the wii is just gamecube 2,with a new controller, but Nintendo focused on features and not specs and look what happened
I think Samsung is getting the idea, advertise what the phone can do, and why you need it, then people will buy. It's easy to say that the iphone is gonna outsell the sg3 because if you want an iphone you get an iphone, there no choice, if you want a android, you literally have 500 choices.
Plus Samsung makes alot of the parts for the iphone so they winning regardless

That could just mean they doing a Buzz Lightyear and deliberately creating stock shortages so all the iSheep think it's more popular than it actually is.
The ip5 will sell well, but if its looking to good then Samsung will start teasing the SGS4 and its "maybe specs" I mean there is already talk of its first showing next year been March.
This is Samsungs chance to distance their product, better specs/features/look, after Apples so so ip5 Samsung really need to make the most of it and show off, it does come at a cost but long term it will be a winner.

Well I do think that Samsung and rest of the Android pack has a lot of catching up with apple's processor. Especially in terms of battery consumption. They could fit quite small sized battery and still have excellent battery life. I don't like Apple as an company and because of that will always boycott them but must give credit for the processor.

Features are what matters to the average person not pointless benchmark results and a little bit of a speedup, and iPhone chronically lacks features compared to Android.
Apple does not have to try hard for making an 'innovative' phone. Just putting a new name tag would turn on the iSheeps and sell like hot cakes. So be it.
