How is the g2x compared to my old vibrant?
Faster, but yet not bug free! I got mine at the store! Returning my first one tomorrow, having data issues!
Nothing new to me, went through 3 Vibrants before I found a good one! So here I go again!
It's got pros and cons, but overall I like it!
Can't wait to start flashing Roms on it!

crap... i ordered mine not from tmobile.. if i have to return mine to get a good one it's going to take forever And i was hearing mixed review on the LCD vs SAMOLED.. some say it's better some say it's not..
The vibrant has a better screen, but just slightly. The vibrant does blacks better, but it's really a close call. It's not enough to make a difference.

I had data issues with my vibrant after I got it, it was tmo and they came out and fixed the tower. I think you might be jumping the gun on returning it but hey keep returning it tell its right.
Heard it a few people have been having reboot issues and light bleed. But the one I looked at, in the tmobile store didn't have any light bleed issues. Not sure about the reboot issue people have been claiming to have.

Thanks, but it was recommended by Tmo technical support! I wouldn't return it if I didn't have to or without trouble shooting it first!
It's a hassle, but worth it at the end to get a proper working device!
This is the reason I've never ordered online, because if I have a problem I can always exchange it right away rather then wait for Ups!
I'd probably pick one up if I was eligible for an upgrade.
I've heard of data issues, battery drain issues, screen problems, rebooting and high temperature problems. It seems to be getting updates quick... source is already released with tweets about gingerbread within the month. Even if it isn't a giant killer of a phone, its still great.

It's a Samsung phone. Even if you regret it when it's released, you will stop regretting when the sgs2 users are stuck with whatever version it ships with and updates (if it gets any) will be months after the next Android release. The g2x, being stock, will get updates much faster and with the source code already released will have a great dev community.
I'm finally happy with the Vibrant running Bionix, but this is definitely my last Samsung phone.

I was gonna go pick up a G2X this morning when I get off work but I've been reading in their section that there seems to be a horrid battery drain issue with a lot of users and the source of the problem has yet to be determined. I got my Vibrant while it still had a battery drain issue but fortunately it was fixed shortly after me getting the phone... Wont be putting myself through that hell again so until the phones software matures more I have no problem getting on with my Vibrant.
G2x looks good but im waiting on the SGS 2 just seems like a better phone for the money.
I'm lucky enough to have a buddy that works for T-Mo. He's going to give me a G2X this coming Sunday. At least this way if it sucks I can always just slide my sim card back into the good old Vibrant. From what I've read it's pretty much stock android like the Nexus S so the upgrades and rom development should be pretty rapid.

I hope Gingerbread is actually released one day with source and that it will be possible to make the alterations such as removing CIQ that were done with Froyo.
Time will tell.
Its coming, samsung/sprint will not just drop all the $$ they did, and then not put out a relase
This Epic post as brought to you via Tapatalk
We will get it. The new Conquer has it and it is basically an Epic. I think they want to resolve the reboot issue that has plagued new Gingerbread releases from the start. Then they can wash their hands of the Epic and not worry about any more maintenance releases.

Not tried the leaks but it seems like the only real remaining issues are the reboots and the GPS. Can't understand why the issues exist for what's now legacy hardware, but once they fix them we will get it officially. I'm not concerned about that.

I don't blame Sammy one bit, I blame Sprint.
I could be totally wrong, but my personal opinion is if the Epic had been on say Verizon this update would have been long since finished.
Just my IMO.
I want an Epic2 so bad right now, I think the last rdf pushed me over the line I'm affraid to say...
I wish the epic2 had a keyboard. I'm probably going to hold off on getting any new phones until the next good android with a slide out keyboard. in the meantime I really wish they would put out source to our Dev's who seem to have a much better handle on debugging and let us get our cyanogen on. Hell with a good cyanogen 7 rom I probably wouldnt get a new phone for another 2-3 years.
Agreed, I mean I have to face the facts, Ill have this phone for at least 1 more year, and I'm sure longer, since Ill probably wait till the next "thing" comes out after I'm eligable for an upgrade.

I agree here. The International version has reportedly received timely updates. I don't know if they were referring to 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 or an incremental bug fix upgrade but supposedly they don't have this issue. I can't resist anymore. I went to the Sprint store and the Manager is going to hold one for me until I get there on launch day. Maybe having 2 active phones is excessive but I can't wait until my upgrade comes. Also, I am not ready to get rid of my Epic. I still love this phone.

Verizon??? The company with the last Galaxy S phone to get updated? The single carrier not to have any SIGN of the gingerbread update ever coming out for their Galaxy S phone? The carrier that believes that the Droid Charge is a suitable replacement for THE GS2? Sprint is probably the best carrier to bet on for upgrades to non "Droid" phones...

As far as I can tell, the GPS works like a charm. Just a warning, though, that the compass doesn't. I came from a Nexus One and the compass in the S is, for lack of a better term, jumpy. This is *the only* issue I've found in the hardware though.
Long story short, if you rely on the compass, it may not be the best choice. If you don't, it's perfect.
I've found, though, that most phones have some sort of hardware quirk. For example, the touchscreen on the N1 didn't support multitouch...and it had the dreaded power button issue. For me, the NS's issue are a step up.
But the choice is yours
Hope this helps,

Battery life is amazing. I'd pick this phone over any other as well. GPS is weak compared to my Nexus One. Phone loses GPS lock while driving because phone is placed 1.5 feet down and away from the windshield. Works fine if placed up on dash closer to windshield. Very weak, never had such GPS weakness with the Nexus One.
Do you guys still think it is worth getting the Nexus S right now? Or would waiting for the Nexus Prime be a better option...

That's right. I would venture 90+% of people have NO CLUE what Gingerbread is, nor what version of Android they're currently running. They see an update come through, install it, and go about their business. A select few of them may notice something different with the looks, but that's about it. They may notice something looks different, but only because one of their apps (I'm thinking Eclair vs. Froyo messaging) looks a bit different. If that's the case, they probably assume the update was just for that app...
If Samsung is throwing around Gingerbread all over the Epic (as well as most of the US galaxy s series) have not gotten, maybe it is the carriers holding everything up. All of the updated GBs have been through Kies and for some reasn Sprint don't want the Epic on Kies.

At this point i'm stuck with my epic for another year min. While i'm fine with that it would really easy to live with if I had an official release. at this point I wish they would just release what they have good or bad and our awesome developers here will fix it. There are some pretty significant issues with a good percentage of these phones mine has issues its just not worth my time to return it when I will be returning it for the gs3. Some people are on their 2nd or 3rd exchange. So good for him he is lucky. It isn't a bad phone but I like Samsung's better. Everything about sammies are better.
The op also posted this in the e4gt forum and the mod closed it so it wouldn't be all about fanboism. Ughhh What's so wrong with being a fanboy?

Music volume is very low. Multi tasking is crap. The keyboard will get hung up and won't type. I don't like sense lol
It's okay to criticize HTC so long as you also acknowledge Samsung's shortcomings. 'Fanboy' is synonymous with 'hypocrite.'
Remember when the Epic 4G was released with video out capability? Oh wait, no, they nixed that at the last minute without telling anyone so that they could force their MediaHub over DLNA. Because every TV I'm ever near has DLNA. But I'm not bitter.

I got my replacement Epic after true bricking the other. After two years with this phone my first true brick. Even Sprint couldn't Odin it.
Anyways, maybe its my imagination, but the modem and wi-fi seem stronger, and it seems quicker? Is it possible the rev'd the hardware in this? Probably not, but don't ruin it for me.

I am probably completely wrong about this but I feel like phones start to slow down over time. I had an Evo 4G that I constantly flashed new ROMs onto and over time it started to get really sluggish. I went back to my go to smooth and stable ROMs and even those did the Evo no justice. I have a friend that says it's exactly the same with his HTC Inspire.
This is exactly how I felt about my Samsung epic 4g. It felt as if the hardware wore out, (particularly the hard drive) due to dozens, maybe hundreds of flashes.

I would definitely bring it in... if you have TEP they will fix it for free...
