[Q] Battery % sudden drop - EVO 4G General

It drops 5% right of the charger , is this happening to someone else ? I'm running a sense Rom with a net kernel and with batt stats cleared

This has been discussed in detail months ago. This is normal. Evo doesn't charge over 95% on average.

You need a SBC kernel
Sent from my HTC Evo running CM7

It happens because the battery reaches "full" between 90-95%. A full charge over time damages the battery; but that is why they have the sbc kernel for if you want to hold the extra charge.

I feel it's the best in terms of stability, battery life, and performance. There are many variations of this kernel that can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763
Here are some graphs to help you decide which one to go for:
http://home.comcast.net/~evoreviews/compiled.html
Hope this helps!

Ehhh did anyone take the time to see if he is using an SBC kernel? Ive been using the Tiamat SBC kernel and as soon as I take it off the charger I hit 94%.

Haha, is a simple "Are you using an SBC kernel?" too much to handle, how hard is it to answer a question, politely tell him to "please post in the right section next time" and then let the post slip off the front page. But instead, people decide they would rather troll someone away from XDA and therefore earn it the rep of "unhelpful troll site." These noobs could be the future of devving for all we know, I guarantee there was a time when Myn, Mik, Toast and the like were all beginners. Hell, I've learned so much in the past 6 months from the helpful people on this site that its incredible. Be friendly, be polite and you will see XDA continue to grow and prosper as the #1 mobile development community around.

Well said. Don't like the thread? Don't post and let it slip further down. Especially to the douchebag who asked for people asking this question to be banned. You can either post something useful, or not post anything at all.

The fact that he has left the thread is evidence that he found his answer somewhere else, most likely the forums search function. Something he should have done before posting a new thread about a topic that has been discussed numerous times.
I'm pretty sure these noobs are not going to be influencial in the devving community as doing a search before asking a question is pretty much innate with anyone that has the mental capacity to handle such a profession/hobby.

I left the thread because almost all the answers I got were from people who apparently were born knowing everything.
Sorry for not being as gifted as you.

sorry about your bad experience bro, dont worry it happens. about it, the battery drop is very common, its a safety stop built into the batteries, they stop charging when they reach 95% to prevent damage, your phone says 100 but really is only 95, sometimes using an sbc kernel(aka trickle charge) solves that problem by pushing little bursts until your battery reaches a true 100% also look too see if you have mobile data always on, in network settings. and next time try the search button and type your problem there.it will show you any threads were similar problems have been discussed, i wouldn't worry to much about that initial drop if it only happens then not thru out the whole day drainnig your battery, you'll be alright, good luck

Yea I found it after I posted my last one. It is really sad, as I tried out his rom and got great battery life. I had almost 15 hrs from full charge to battery blinking. Have yet to get that with anyone else.
I personally think the mods should have closed all the other rom/kernel threads and just left Herver's open.

Still absolutely no problems with any of his ROMs! He didnt want to give up his code source (so other devs could see his work) and that is against the "GPL" guidelines. This happens everytime he puts out a ROM on here. I would suggest going to BakeSnackShack.com to keep updated and support him. He said he was going to make it a free forum soon so we will see....but I will pay $5 for each and everyone of his roms!
PS I have the links if anyone still wants Version 1.6....
Unplugged 15hrs and at 78% battery.....I mean come on!

It really sucks for Epic development in general. I thought we were on a roll there for a while with all the great ROM's and development going on. Weather you like his ROM's or not, the more dev's the better. Is there this much bickering and drama on other device forums?
So basically if you do not release your code you are not in gpl guidelines?

Yep here is the google def:
Versions entitled GPL Ghostscript are distributed with the GNU General Public License, which allows free use, and free copying and redistribution under certain conditions (including, in some cases, commercial distribution).
I would not want anyone else changing my work and claiming it as there own so I don't blame Hero!
And yes thats light use since I flashed my phone, played some angry birds, texting, and left it unplugged over night (usually a 25% drain/ but last night only 12%)

This is what every phone manufacturer does with Google's stock Android, technically. Which is why the GPL states you must release your source.

Well what I dont understand about GPL is this. Cant you just download the file and then extract out the code to get it?
Same thing happened with the Samsung Moment over at SDX Developers between their board and that ghetto hoodrat DearmasFamily.

If you modify GPL code then you must release your changes if its released as a binary.
If he's such a great dev then he could start from scratch and attach his own license.

Android Build questions

I know theres plenty of threads about this issue but they're so long of a read it would take forever for me to go through them.
I've been using hyperdroid with vbn rom. Its been great and reliable but it still has its quirts. What i like about the build is that the battery will last me close to a full day of use and it don't randomly reboot on me. But its just too outdated and am wondering if there is something else that is better out there.
I've tried jms builds but the battery does not last but a few hours for me.
My question is, what are you using and how does it compare with hyperdroid? AS in battery wise and random boots. Thanks
Dude, there was absolutely no need for this topic, There is plenty of threads to read on subject and it would take you 10 mins tops to get a good idea of the next build and/or kernel to use.
Please stop been lazy and creating clone topics.
Dude, how about you don't be a smartass and just let it die out like everybody is?

At least take 5 mins to look at a forum before you post on it.
ALSO if you want to ask questions there is a Q&A forum so you fail on all points.
If you want help ask in right places and only if the information or question isnt readily available already.

Its just that in the epic forums, the dev section is strictly that, development... EVERYTHING else but a thread with a rom, etc goes in general. So even if your question is development related, it goes in general. Its just forum rules, stricter than most, but not a conspiricy to keep DL11 down. Assume the devs will see your question in general, or maybe PM one if nobody responds. And be sure to use the search for at least 6 hours before asking a question, as there are a LOT of self-Appointed mods who don't want to look thru more than one page to find the dev they have a crush on's new post. Good luck.

Like really, this entire section is going to ****. Do we really need the same ****ty rom, that 35 people posted in 150 different colors? Apparently we do.

Forum mod has asked people specifically to stop posting these threads. When there is any real indication of Froyo coming, it will be posted.
I've read many blogs, twitter feeds, and comments about this. All I've heard is that even though it's still not ready, it's still being tested. It seems as though they're trying to iron out all of the kinks so that every phone gets the update smoothly and that EVERYTHING works. That goes for all Galaxy S phones, and not just the Epic 4G.
However, in my opinion, it seems as though they're taking their damn sweet time. Can't figure out if Samsung has incompetent programmers, management, or both. However, on the bright side, atleast Samsung is letting us know what's up and not COMPLETELY leaving us in the dark. Although, they're not setting a deadline other than "when it's done" nonsense.
In terms of whether or not it's the carrier's problem really isn't correct. I would assume the carriers don't care as long as the phone can comply with certain guidelines (AKA no hot spotting unless you pay for it), then it's good to go.
Remember, even though most of us are salivating for a new upgrade, I'd say most people have no idea that a new one is in the making. If you say all of your friends know about the upcoming upgrade, you have some mighty geeky friends!
My guess is that it should roll out in the next couple of weeks. Hell, they've had since August to work on the damn upgrade. My guess is that Samsung has a crappy programming staff, ****ty management, and limited budget for upgrading phones.
That's my take on the big mess. Here's hoping it comes soon and works as they promised.

Again I will say it. Why isnt there a dedicated sticky that deals with ALL froyo speculation? All of these threads could be merged with it and all speculation could happen inside of it. Where are the mods and what are they doing? I know its not an easy job to do, but it seems like no one is in charge of this forum at all. No sticky linking to the wiki or a basic guide so that noobs can set up their phone easier. No sticky dealing with froyo speculation. Why not just add another moderator if you need the help?

. . . . . LOL
I am thinking you cannot make people stop commenting about something if that is what they want to talk about. Perhaps a sticky at the top of this section of the forum with the official status of froyo 2.2 has or has not been released yet so PLEASE don't ask anymore. We will change the topic of this post the first thing when it is released to let you know it is available.
I am not telling anyone what to do, I am simply trying to offer ideas towards a solution to this problem.
Exactly. Have a sticky where people CAN discuss Froyo speculation, and then any threads that are STILL posted to general can just get merged with that sticky thread or deleted.

Sprint will only release Froyo when there are no new xda "when is froyo coming out?" posts for an entire day. Unfortunately, at this rate it may never be released.

[Q] Best battery life kernel/ROM?

I recently got the galaxy s3 and gave my s2 to my sister. I have been a long time lurker here and have put man android versions on my s2 but before i have it to my sister I put the newest version of 4.0.3 on the s2.
she is now complaining that the battery life sucks, so I am looking for the best kernel/ROM combo to increase her battery life. Any help would be appreciated!

Im not going to suggest any one rom or kernel.
I will suggest you look in the roll up sticky thread for the list of all stock firmwares and check out the frankenfirmwares. Pick at random, use a battery monitor app to check your usage over a week, then flash something new. Let us know how that goes!
well seeing as it is not my phone anymore i cant be trying out firmwares for a week. I was looking for peoples experiences and was not expecting such an unhelpful userbase. forums nowadays are really going downhill...you guys and head-fi are both becoming ridiculous.
