[Q] Best battery life kernel/ROM? - Galaxy S II General

I recently got the galaxy s3 and gave my s2 to my sister. I have been a long time lurker here and have put man android versions on my s2 but before i have it to my sister I put the newest version of 4.0.3 on the s2.
she is now complaining that the battery life sucks, so I am looking for the best kernel/ROM combo to increase her battery life. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Wrong twice...

Im not going to suggest any one rom or kernel.
I will suggest you look in the roll up sticky thread for the list of all stock firmwares and check out the frankenfirmwares. Pick at random, use a battery monitor app to check your usage over a week, then flash something new. Let us know how that goes!

well seeing as it is not my phone anymore i cant be trying out firmwares for a week. I was looking for peoples experiences and was not expecting such an unhelpful userbase. forums nowadays are really going downhill...you guys and head-fi are both becoming ridiculous.

Was there something unclear about the message from a senior moderator?
DO NOT POST A "What's the best ROM/Kernel/Theme?" THREAD!

He reminds to someone who says "Hey, can you do -insert huge favour or whatever huge thing here- for me?" -No, I can't do that! -"You selfish prick, I thought we were friends". (People who crosses boundaries or don't read basic rules to keep a clean forum in this case and they don't understand their situation isn't special at all in a 4 million users forum, and they are not special)
So, go away! :fingers-crossed:

Closing this. Rather than kick out at people, it would be appreciated if you could help new users find their feet on here first.
Thanks

Reasons to root

My Nexus One will be here tomorrow, and I am wondering what the Pro's and Con's of rooting are.
I've rooted before. I had a G1, but I bricked it, accidentally. Won't stop me from rooting the Nexus, but just give me some reasons why.
I obviously know about cooked roms, etc. I've read about the Desire rom with Sense UI, is it worth it?
Just want your input.
The "search" function of the forums is a great feature. I've seen several threads about this very subject already.
Its definitely worth it! I enjoyed the phone stock, but when i rooted and went with cyanogen 5053. I couldnt happier. I thought the phone was fast already, but with the ROM, its a step above!
And plus some apps from the market are only for rooted phones. SetCPU (underclocking app) is one of them, and has helped me out with battery life. moderate use, i got about 18 hours yesterday with still 35% left on the battery.

Its great how we have members that spam other members topics with unuseful replys just to get there post count up.
This is exactly why I don't post alot.
@stuff: I rooted my n1 and flashed cyanogen 5053 and gotta say it's alot faster! If your the kind of guy that gets alot of apps and games like me there is another feature of rooted phones called apps2sd. Apps2sd allows you to set a partition size of your choosing on your sd card for use of storing installed apps and games. That way you are not limited to the internal phone memory. Also as h2opoloplyr_11 stated there are some apps that require your phone to be rooted. Thats all I can think of right now as I am new to android and the n1 but I'm sure there are more reasons and more reasons to come as devs get creative.

It has nothing to do with getting our post counts up and everything to do with having a clean, uncluttered and efficient forum. No one likes to see the same questions asked every few days. The point of a forum is for it to serve as a repository of information to help and educate future enthusiasts. This guy isn't special and somehow entitled to create another redundant thread instead of using the search function like the rest of us do.. Not to mention he said in his original post that he rooted his G1.

Why the hell isn't there an official stickied topic listing the pros and cons of rooting your device. The first thing people would see before they go asking repeated questions would be that thread.
Good question...the info was stickies in the G1 forum..probably still is.

Which is why the op's question should have either been answered or his topic reported. What could have been very simple has turned to a two page topic with only a few post that actually answer the question and it's not because of the op. It's because of all the other post within the topic that are completely of topic including this one.

I'll add to it then...
Every time someone asks THIS question. It's about 10 pages of people giving different great benefits. What difference is 2 pages telling the guy to Lrn2Surch
If someone is too lazy to SEARCH for benefits. Who would ever expect them to accomplish rooting, and the various benefits without further questions that have been seen 100's of times.
It seems like I've seen this topic before.

So i just got my replacement device

The battery was draining really quick in my old one. And i dont wanna make the same mistakes i did. So should i root this one? And whats the best lag fix out there?
Why do you post new threads for every update instead of using your original thread? It clutters up the forum and it's impossible for us to see the history or your problem.

Yeah, not really. Just giving you a tip on getting better help from people by helping them to help you. It doesn't help anybody (you included) when the forum is a cluttered mess. It runs contrary to forum etiquette and, to a lesser degree, forum rules.
Hey, I'm not a mod, though, so do what you want.
Dude. You seriously create a new thread every time you have a thought...
Do you really want to annoy those who you seek help from?

LOL, I think the point here is well made.
But anyways, I can tell you rooting your phone did not destroy your battery life. Skip the lag fix if your not having any major issues. Or if you feel like you just have to have more speed, flash one of Eugenes great roms he has out.

O my God.... you did not create a thread to reply to me?
OP should get an old school flip phone and never touch a computer again.
forum topics shouldnt be treated like twitter posts...
When you do this, it gives the forum a lesser appearance, especially when people come in these to tell you how stupid/ignorant you are for all the needless threads.
How does telling the world you got a new vibrant to fix your battery problems make this forum a better place? Especially when you dont even state what you did to cause said battery problems.
Please consider this before starting a thread. If not, before you know it mods might start restricting rights who gets to open threads which in effect world kill this forum.
Might I also add this is why we have the Search function as well to reduce the amount of topics posted. This allows us to consolidate all of the information into one post rather than having to hunt and peck for information. Please be more considerate to those around you and if you have an added question then request it on the same thread or people will ignore your request for help (i haven't seen anyone with any real help for you here)

[Q] Which NAND ROM delivers the best battery life before tweaking?

Which NAND ROM provides the longest battery life before tweaking with SetCPU and/or JuiceDefender? I would like to have peeps provide here their opinion or proof before I settle on a single ROM.

Hi,
I had a NAND ROM once.
I installed it, charged it to the Max, powered it down, and put it in the cupboard for a week.
And guess what. There was still some charge on it when I switched it on again!

Great, another "whats got bets battery life" topic, we have been running short on these and other circular never ending topics like them, lets all enjoy at the finality of the answers.
Go and try some roms and find out what has best battery life for YOU because what MAY have good life for us doesn't necessarily translate to best for YOU.

with reading, reading, reading. and with experimenting. with trying something out and not expecting it to be 100% perfect the first time i did it. not posting and expecting others to solve basics for me.
but i digress. so many threads about "best this" or "best that"...it seems that people are hesitating to experiment or impatient at that their first choice may not be the best answer.
anyways. blah blah.

All these "best" topics are completley useless other then to clog up the forum with useless junk, There is just too many of them and they always have the same answers. In some section they get closed/deleted by mods so its not as if we are complaining for no reason.
Anyway, Welcome to the HD2 forum some advice for you...
DO NOT create topics in the dev section, Its for posting dev releases/work/reference ONLY!
DO NOT create "Best rom" or "Best Battery" or any other kind of "best" topics as they will always get same response, "best" is subjective upon the user, The ONLY way to find the "best" is to try it yourself because best for you is not always best for us etc.
PS. Incase you wasnt aware, All XDA n00bs at registration are give this video to watch so they have absolutely no excuse creating topics that are going to be obviously a FAQ, Its just common sense, ANY question that a n00b can think of has very likely already been asked AND answered a million times already so all they have to do is take 2 seconds to look, its as simple as that.

OK so the new to the forum thing should have been new to HD2 forum. I have been following the galaxy S forum for last few months. so I know the basics..
but I don't want to go through tens of threads so the best thing would be to ask or look for best ROM topic..
yes it is irritating to read all the best ROM, kernel topics but that's what newbies like to know.. I think the solution would be add a newbie section.. so that the development section will remain clean.. or you could just stop replying to such threads... whats up with that? ?

[Port] Galaxy SII ICS progression(NON DEV ISSUES & Q&A)

As the title of the thread says anything you want to post keep it here regarding the ICS porting... Please, keep all your posts and wishes to the devs here. It's a good thing that noobull****(You know, noobs' bull**** ) tend to be seperated from development thread. They just tend to though. When the day comes that XDA forums will be divided in noob and developer forums and noobs stick to their rightful place, then XDA will be a better place.Ahh Utopia...
To avoid misunderstandings:
I don't call anyone who isn't a developer a noob.If I did,I'd be calling 90% of XDA's users, including me and people much better than me,noobs.Noobs are those typical idiots with that strange sense of entitlement to other, more skilled people's work, while they don't contribute to anything.Although I'm pretty sure most of you know what I mean...

Yeah, well keep in mind that most of us have been noobs at sometime or another. What's important is how long you move away from n00bishness and become like everyone else. heh

It's a good thing that noobull****(You know, noobs' bull**** ) tend to be seperated from development thread. They just tend to though. When the day comes that XDA forums will be divided in noob and developer forums and noobs stick to their rightful place, then XDA will be a better place.Ahh Utopia...

You either speek Greek for some reason,or we Greeks are much more common than I thought.
Anyway, yes,we've all acted noobish at times, but there are two types of noobs as I have said elsewhere:
i)The "I want to learn" noob, who is the good noob and the one to be deprived of his noobishness quickly and once and for all.
ii)The "I'm an ass and think I deserve it all" noob, who is that typical idiot that asks the same question that was answered two posts above his.Number (ii) is the plague of every tech forum, not only XDA.
Being a noob isn't bad by itself. The problem is which noob type you choose to be.

Haha..I love your posts.. Make so much sense...And fully fledged Greek my friend..
I choose number 1..That is the kinda noob i consider myself to be..There are still things i am learning...Do not thing it would be to the level of dev or themer but i feel pretty good so far in what i have learned in the short space i have been using android.
Rant... ish.
I don't think it's just forums where you find this issue. The world seems to be full of people these days who seem to think that the entire planet owes them something although they have probably not done a days honest work in their entire pathetic existence.
Rather off-topic wouldn't you say

And yeah unfortunately this is life..you will get those kinda people werever you go even if its online or not...

Hah,tell me.And one of these guys happens to be teaching me math at school.Pathetic sometimes...Not to sound like a ****er,but some people here consider me something like a genious(at math, physics and chemistry) and he insists that I'm good because he's a good teacher.Stopping this because it'll get ugly!

Hah!We Greeks are very common to stumble upon after all!
Always happy to see that there is "just-one-more" of us.
Anyway,I don't have the XDA bug at such a degree,but I do have some bad ORD(Obsessive Rom-flashing Disorder).Blood examination didn't show anything.I'll try acupuncture.

Sticky thread ice cream sandwich release

What makes a ROM best for you

Hi all,
Often see that what rom is the best threads, what is the best?High performance?Best battery life?
why do you ask what rom is the best?your own it is not good enough?want to find a better?
personal using their phone was different,so would not be the best rom, only the most suitable for their own,
and how to know ?the answer is try it youself,i'm not kidding
why not try it yourself, you may be afraid that the new rom is worse
Ok,first you can through CWM backup full rom and then flash another rom you want.
if you do not think for themselves, through CWM restore before backup,so easy
I caused by SGS1,nexus S,SGS2,Gnexus,SGS3,Note2 To SGS LTE has always been a backup and restore through CWM never has issue
Oh boy, this is gonna end well..

You've been here since 2010, and yet you fail to understand that any kind of "best" threads are disallowed? :/
i concur with Theshawty

Listen, before this gets locked, I can say this:
What makes a ROM best for you, are your preferences.

Lol, it's sad to think that some people are able to earn enough to buy a top end smartphone but are also able to ask dumb questions.
(Tongue in cheek) try installing ios6 on it for us. I'd like to see if you can get that sorted

It burns.....it burns.....excruciating pain!
I hear what you are saying but there is no need to create a thread like this when there is a sticky by the mods already
When are people gonna learn ay??....OP I suggest you read the rules then message a moderator to close this thread otherwise your not gonna get any constructive answers because "best ROM" threads aren't looked upon lightly here, a "best ROM" is entirely based on personal preference! Heed my advice Skywalker, may the force be with you

Slappy! What have I said about not standing in the middle of the fireplace?!
it's amazing how many people didn't read the OP.....he is reinforcing the "don't ask, try them out" message......so to all those thinking he is asking about best Rom.....epic fail and laughing @u.......but as there is a sticky by mods regarding this, it is an unnecessary thread.
O how people trip up in their haste to criticize.....but also @ OP......not a good way to whore your thanks meter!

he did ask for best rom he changed it look at time when he created and then the time edited the thread me and Theshawty wrote before he changed it he even changed title of thread carn't believe u fell for it
Best rom:
Best stability
Best battery life
Best compatibility
Best features
For S3 it's a stock samsung rom. For GNex it's ParanoidAndroid (my opinion).

Ok...Ok......laughing at me, laughing at you, laughing at him laughing at me.......oh hell.....I'm utterly lost now.....I know what.....I'm going to sit here and laugh at myself......for laughing at you for laughing at him......
Seriously, almost every day also saw what rom is the best,i also used to believe a lot of people to evaluate the best rom, should be the best,
but it was not so,it was discovered that, the best is subjective, only to try to find the best, see those threads, like previous, really wanted to say,and why create a thread
