Front facing camera not working? - Xoom General

My newly purchased wifi xoom.
Is it just my problem in hareware or there is some software update about it?
Basically everytime I switch to front facing camera, it freezes and black screen it shows.
Back camera is working fine, both video and picture.
Front is not, neither video nor picture.
Stock camera app.
If yours had similar issue and fixed it in some adb update on lib or other files. Please point me the way~

Mines working fine on the wifi version. Both the camera and videochat using gtalk. Hmmm... sounds like a hardware issue? Did it ever work?

^^ How good is the quality of your front facing camera
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

Obviously it's not as good as the back camera but it's OK for video chats. What do you consider bad or good?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk

I'm not.comparing it to the back just wondering if everyone's is a bit fuzzy
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

Yeah mine is alittle fuzzy too but maybe it's because of the pixels. It's the same on my gtab too with the front camera.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk

you need really good light for the front facing cam, it's only adequate in decent or low light.

thanks for info
I exchanged one. Previous one was hardware issue, even best buy geek square has to admit

Most likely the hardware issue. Front facing camera broken = nothing showing up. This should have never been a software issue. If it was a software issue, everybody would have noticed it by now. Thus, assuming your xoom is stock, theres nothing you can do to accessing the library without root.

hd2 front camera

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anybody knows how to get the front camera working.
When I use fring for vid calls I get the back cam to work...but thats difficult to be seen. I was wondering if anybody has a work around for the front cam with fring?? or any other software.
Thanks in advance guys.
cheers
HD2 doesn't have a front camera...
ähm, there´s no front cam at the hd2
Someone is a little off on their spec list...
He probably saw the ambient light sensor hole and assumed it was a front facing camera. Looks very similar to the one on the evo.
What you're seeing is the proximity sensor.

MAJOR issue with s3 camera

I received my s3 this morning, everything was going well until 20 minutes ago when the camera decided to compeltly freak out. It seems to be constantly trying to focus at an extremely high speed. Check the video out for reference.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EhZKVRvzuI
I would say dirt in the camera lens
It's strange because the issue goes away when I reset camera settings, but then comes back after I switch to front camera and back again.

Nothing to report I'm afraid, it seems to work fine switching between front and rear cameras
The original issue seems to have subsided, but now I can't focus on anything...looking like I may need to get a replacement

It's a hardware issue. That clicking sound means that something's obstructing the camera lens. It possible that every time you reset, the lens shifts back to it's original position and that's why the issue subsides for some time.
Anyway... that's what warranty is for!

Line In Camera App

I've been using the spectacular camera on this phone and I just started noticing that it's leaving a green line in all my pictures. Anyone have any ideas as to what's causing it? There's no line on the screen using the front facing camera or on the screen at any other time. I have attached a couple pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. In both instances they are on the left side of the picture.
I'm no expert but if this is showing up on every picture you take, then I suspect it is a faulty camera sensor. Does it do this in video mode? Different camera resolutions and modes? I'd take it back for a replacement.
Yeah, definitely sounds like some sort of hardware failure.
Yeah it shows up in video mode as well. I was afraid it was a hardware issue. Looks like I'll have to unroot it and have it replaced. Thanks for the replies!!
You don't have to unroot to get it replaced. If you wait about a week the store should be able to harvest another camera from a return or something. They just have to wait 60 days from the launch before they can open them. Also if they give you any crap about it being rooted tell them to check for m and p on it. It's states that software mods don't void sprints warrenty.

I unrooted it anyway and had them send me a new one. Hopefully the camera holds up this time, but that's good to know for future reference. :good:

I took it into Sprint and they told me that it was definitely a defective camera. Take it in, have it diagnosed, and they'll have it replaced...hopefully. The manager at my Sprint store was all about helping me out.
CRAP! Now I've got some dead pixels in my camera. Was messing with the voice controls & noticed 2 black dots during the preview when I voice opened the camera. They're in the picture when I took it. The phone was already going to be replaced on WED, so now it's just another reason . . .

Blurry Front Camera

My front camera is blurry, can't focus properly. Anyone else with this problem?
Does the camera look sharp when using the viewfinder, but blurry when actually taking a photo? Because that's the problem I'm having...
Try cleaning the lense. Would be great if you post a picture to see what you mean.

The cleaning of the len is the first thing I tried. But thanks. Here is a photo. As you can see is blurry around the hand, face or anything that I take a picture of. The back camera is perfect, it is just the front one.
Seems out of focus.

Yes that the problem even if I touch the screen to try to make it focus. I guess I got a defective unit if no one is having the same problem. I will have to return it.

*yikes* sorry to hear that. Did you order your phone from Google or Huawei? I saw someone else had a defective phone from Huawei and he reached out to Google. Google shipped out a new phone right away with 3 days shipping process. If I were you I would reach out to Google asap.

Yep he called huawei and was told he would get a call back which never happened. Then he called Google and they sort out his issue right away. I am getting mine from huawei so I will make sure to ring Google first in case of any defective.

Wow. That's nice to know. Because I was worried about huawei CS. At least Google recognizes valued customers.

The front camera does not have autofocus. They're usually adjusted to a set focal point at the factory. When you tap the screen when you're using the front facing camera, all that's doing is adjusting the exposure (shutter speed). Unfortunately, yours seems to be mis-adjusted.*
(*Do not take what I said as gospel. I may be incorrect about some things)
Thanks for the information.

Camera recording clicking noise

Just noticed my camera while recording and focusing makes a click or distortion noise which is very minimal but I also noticed that it gets picked up in the video recordings. Anyone else having this issue? My device has no other issue besides this and really don't want to roll the dice and get a bad RMA.
So no one is having this issue?

nothing here.
Yeah only a few cases are popping up. I'm probably going to return it an wait and see if these issues get worked out.

I have this issue. Switched to Snap Cam camera app. There you can choose another mic when filming. Works great.

I just noticed this issue. Did the replacement get better?
I just got a replacement and it is a little better. I still get the slight buzzing from the laser focus. At this point I believe it's the design and how close the mic is.

Actually, i found a work around. If you turn off wifi and do the recording, the clicking noise is gone. It's either the mic is placed too near the wifi receptor or it could be fixed by software else..... i hope it's the latter.

Good to know, my first one was picking up another noise almost as if the camera focusing was making a noise. This on is less noticeable and I can only hear it when I am shooting something in complete silence.
