Now this email had a link to "Register your Nexus S", which was dead. Nice.
I click the second "once registered" link, which worked, and brought me to the Samsung registration page. Great, or so I thought. But because the site only acknowledges US addresses, and I'm here in Canada, I couldn't enter my address. Sweet! So I enter a friends US address instead and move on.
Then the registration page asks for the handsets IMEI, so I enter mine, and the site says my IMEI is invalid. I checked it 3 times, and it was right.
Bottom line, I couldn't register my handset, and as a result I feel Samsung may be functionally retarded. Yeah, I guess I could call them, but why the hell should I have to? lol

there's already an open topic about this

Will bump this Nov 8th heh
How sweet that would be!
MyTouch 4G for T-Mobile USA out on the 3rd of November (a worthy hardware bump)... tough decisions. I will probably wait until the 8th to see if anything really surfaces.
I believe it to be rumor at this point, but surely we all hope it is not.
i really hope this is true cant wait
The device on the 8th wont be the N2, because well the invitation image says the name of the device right in it

If i was a member of the media id tell you, and im pretty sure they had to NDA
The device that Samsung are going to announce on November 8th is called the Samsung Continuum. It is going to be a 2.1 device for Verizon and its main feature is that is dual-screen with the second screen acting as a ticker which will display weather, Facebook updates, etc...
However it is reported that there is going to a be a surprise announcement on the day of the Continuum unveiling of a new Nexus device, manufactured by Samsung, which will run Gingerbread. Apparently the device will be called the Nexus S.

Update this thread on Nov. 8th with the scoop
ITS REAL!!\
http://gizmodo.com/5676008/hands-on-the-nexus-two-by-samsung
Gizmodo could be f-ing with us. Or be serious.
I don't see why Google would choose Samsung over HTC. Unless they really want to develop Android on the Hummingbird GPU.
I do NOT like this. It's not even the Nexus One feel. Looks like every other variant of the Galaxy S.
If its stock Android + Google Apps and NOT carrier-subsidized, I will purchase one despite it not being manufactured by our beloved HTC.. when HTC releases their stock/gapps/unsubsidized super phone, I will purchase one of those too. This is of course after I confirm that they both feature 'fastboot oem unlock'...
If the Nexus 2 is the Gizmodo phone then why doesn't it have Android 3.0? The lime green phone icon they so claim its coming with. Not some plain ol' launcher icons. I hope thats not the Nexus 2.
glad Sammy is behind it! I was sick of all the HTC designs since the days of G1.
its just another Galaxy, great *rolls eyes*

Hashtag for Twitter: For those pissed at Samsung * #NeverAgain *

I generally stay in the Vibrant section, but was hoping you could help.
I generally remain calm and try and remain upbeat and defend... but the news (rumor/leak) about Samsung holding off the froyo release to sell more phones set me over the edge.
While nothing is confirmed, I still believe Samsung needs to be aware of just how pissed they are making our community. I'm not talking stupid class action, blah blah... I simply want our voice heard, and for a Froyo release to happen ASAP... but beyond that, I want them to adhere to the Open Handset Alliance and release their source for our developers.
http://www.openhandsetalliance.com/
I believe we all now who is going to put out a better product, and right now they (our developers) are handicapped because they do not have everything they need.
That said, we need to be organized!
We need twitter to trend.
To do that, we all need to use the same #hashtag. We also need to threaten something that means something to them... the whole problem is they are not updating to help with their sales (allegedly). Well, we need to threaten to never buy Samsung again.
Please use this #Hashtag:
#NeverAgain
would work.... it is easy to use, short and to the point.
An example: (just copy/paste this if you like)
[email protected] I will never buy a Samsung product after the way you've treated your customers. #NeverAgain

Android Market Request Made

Hey there folks, just wanted to share that I called Google's Android Market team and requested the Google Talk app (with Video) be made available to all Galaxy S Variants that are running 2.3 Gingerbread, and as priority, our Epic 4G to be able to see it on the Market. I was surprised to know that Google Employees are well aware of XDA-Developers.com, anyway, I told Google that I can vouch that their official Gtalk(with video) Support on the Epic 4G is a 'go' due to us having official Gingerbread and also because we've already tested a modified apk of Google Talk. The request has been flagged for pending view, and I was also told to hit up the Google Talk Dev team to show them we're serious about wanting their app after hitting this request from both ends, expect Official Google Talk hitting Samsung Epic 4Gs near you soon.
Update: I've also now done what the Android Market said to do in the mean-time, and that was to contact the team responsible for Gtalk with video.

Galaxy S III First Official Appearance on web! (GT-i9300)

The Galaxy S line was such a hit that Google even gave its latest "Nexus" phone to Samsung. Not just that, the Google even gave up the naming convention it’s been using to date, allowing Samsung’s "Galaxy" branding to come before the Nexus name. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was born.
But what about Samsung’s bread and butter? What about its own Galaxy S line?
With Mobile World Congress not too far away now it had been expected that we would be seeing some movement from the Koreans, with the show offering a great place to announce a new handset.
That suggestion has been blown out of the water at late, and Samsung’s own executives seem to think that the whole Samsung Galaxy S III thing is under review. That almost confirms there will be no announcement just yet.
It’s entirely possible that Samsung is concerned about a new Galaxy S handset cannibalizing the current Galaxy S sales and is currently mulling over when to bring the highly anticipated handset to market.
All that said, a photo has popped up of what appears to be the Samsung UAE website, with the new handset showing in a drop-down list. The Samsung GT-I9300 as it is expected to be known, is clearly visible in a list that includes all of Samsung’s smartphones. Does that mean someone somewhere at Samsung is being a little coy about release dates, or has someone had a case of the itchy trigger finger and sent a page live that wasn’t ready?

this kind of thing is becoming often day after day. i don't think it is someone`s mistake to let information about smartphones and other gadgets being know before their release... this is marketing!
anyway, galaxy s is for sure one of the best smartphones line ever, and a new release would be awesome!

"This is just the start of leaks"? Really? There have been supposed "leaks" for the past 4 months. This whole thread is old news, and has been covered in at least 5 other different threads today. As per your original post, I DID NOT hit the thanks button, as this in no way shape or form help me or any other user on XDA.

Do you think we will get the option to go Nexus?

Hi guys,
So Google just announce at I/O that they will be releasing an unlocked, LTE Compatible Galaxy S4 that runs stock android and gets updates alongside the Nexus family. (In the USA anyway)
Do you think us early adopters of the Galaxy S4 will get a legitimate option to go Nexus, or do you think this will be a Play Store exclusive device? Although rooting is always an option, it's certainly not one I want to take. Having the option to turn this 'already amazing' device into a Nexus, would be absolutely amazing!
Never the less, we can expect better applications for our devices as it will no doubt become a popular app developers device.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
No, I'm pretty sure Samsung won't, Google is releasing the updates for the Google S4 and not Samsung. But I guess it can be done via XDA pretty easily.
Its a playstore exclusive i presume but once that google s4 is released we on dda will get there hands on the software probably the same day google pushes the update.

Yes, I don't see why not. It's the same device, only with Samsung pushing the firmware updates instead of Google. At least for the people with the i9505, the i9500 will probably need some more work because of the Exynos chip. The only thing is you need to install it yourself, they won't push it to your device..
I already have the unlocked international version (I9500) so does that mean i can get the updates directly from Google somehow?

No, the one Google is going to sell is the i9505 I suppose because of its support for LTE.
So, assuming we manage to get the Stock Android ROM for the GS4, and install it surely we would be able to get the updates directly from Google through OTA? Or am I wrong?

So will the Google device be AOSP but with the Samsung camera along with the other Samsung features?
Need to keep the camera and ideally the quick settings shortcuts.
Hopefully someone will tweak a ROM version to include all the best bits.

That's a good question. It's being billed as a "Nexus user experience" and not a Nexus device. It's also being called "Galaxy S4" and not being given a distinct name. Here's a screen shot from the Google I/O introduction and a link to the presentation video.

They are calling it a developer phone, hence the I/O announcement. It won't have the Samsung Camera on it, as that would be pointless to development.
if someone gets the phone in its hands make a full odin dump maybe we can build the i9505 to google galaxy s4 nexus editions
I imagine it will be like the developer HTC One but it has stock android and gets updates straight from google. Its US only I think? But I imagine it will make getting a stock rom on the device easier. & if its a nexus device you wont get any of the camera add ons.

You're assuming it's pure AOSP. I'm not. I'm thinking it's a standard SGS4 h/w wise without Samsung's s/w mods that is being supported by Google. The "developers device" ship sailed when Google started mass marketing the N4, 7, and 10. If you watch the video introduction it's pretty clear it's not being positioned as a Nexus device in any way.

They did mention it providing the Nexus user experience, which in my book equals AOSP.
I wonder if the camera would have photosphere, since that's a nexus feature and the source is closed.

Google-driven devices also don't support expandable storage and the SGS4 GE will. We can all argue our interpretation of what the limited amount of information available means but it's all just as much a wild ass guess at this point. Clearly the SGS4 GE isn't a "standard issue" Nexus device so all previous standards and functions may be different. Yesterday a bunch of people swore the SGS4 GE wasn’t going to happen at all.
