Will bump this Nov 8th heh
How sweet that would be!
MyTouch 4G for T-Mobile USA out on the 3rd of November (a worthy hardware bump)... tough decisions. I will probably wait until the 8th to see if anything really surfaces.
I believe it to be rumor at this point, but surely we all hope it is not.
i really hope this is true cant wait
The device on the 8th wont be the N2, because well the invitation image says the name of the device right in it

The device that Samsung are going to announce on November 8th is called the Samsung Continuum. It is going to be a 2.1 device for Verizon and its main feature is that is dual-screen with the second screen acting as a ticker which will display weather, Facebook updates, etc...
However it is reported that there is going to a be a surprise announcement on the day of the Continuum unveiling of a new Nexus device, manufactured by Samsung, which will run Gingerbread. Apparently the device will be called the Nexus S.

Update this thread on Nov. 8th with the scoop
ITS REAL!!\
http://gizmodo.com/5676008/hands-on-the-nexus-two-by-samsung
Gizmodo could be f-ing with us. Or be serious.
I don't see why Google would choose Samsung over HTC. Unless they really want to develop Android on the Hummingbird GPU.
I do NOT like this. It's not even the Nexus One feel. Looks like every other variant of the Galaxy S.
If its stock Android + Google Apps and NOT carrier-subsidized, I will purchase one despite it not being manufactured by our beloved HTC.. when HTC releases their stock/gapps/unsubsidized super phone, I will purchase one of those too. This is of course after I confirm that they both feature 'fastboot oem unlock'...
If the Nexus 2 is the Gizmodo phone then why doesn't it have Android 3.0? The lime green phone icon they so claim its coming with. Not some plain ol' launcher icons. I hope thats not the Nexus 2.
glad Sammy is behind it! I was sick of all the HTC designs since the days of G1.
its just another Galaxy, great *rolls eyes*

As it so turns out, Samsung i9000 Galaxy S smart phone owners need to only wait “shortly” until the Froyo update gets released for the handset. While a specific date has yet to be delivered, earliest estimates place the update for a launch due by next week –or hopefully, earlier.

While it would be nice to get it so early, I wouldn't hold me breath.

Unlocked users also
Hello Guys,
I just ordered this phone unlocked. Since this is my first Samsung phone (I had an iPhone 3G) I am wondering if AT&T will push the update to me and since my phone was shipped from Hong Kong I would also like to know whether there is a download link from Samsung's site for patches and firmwares (official).
Side question; For those using an unlocked Galaxy S in the US, is there any 3G (data) issue you are noticing? how is performance and availability of 3G with 1900Mhz spectrum?
If your carrier doesnt push the update to you, you should be able to get it through Samsung Kies once its been released.
Well we can only hope for this to be real. Sure would be nice

If Froyo for the SGS will pop up during the next 10 days as this article says it might, i'll eat my pants and post pics.
It's pretty impossible, considering samsung past with updates.
That's there flagship handset, nothing stop them to change the history.
Ummm.... Yes there is something that will stop them... It's called "Paperwork".
We'll see, would be nice tho, especially when it comes with some new drivers/updates to iron out the little bugs
Im thinking in this, we shouldn't forget about Samsungs tablet device, which seems like a big Samsung Galaxy S. The rumour there is that is going to come with FroYo 2.2 right from the off.
Makes sense to converge the software, so there is a very real possibility Samsung have been working on a FroYo release for a while.

As well as the hoofing great big ones
While they are at it, why not
While I doubt we will see Froyo in the next week or two it looks like they may have had some models at the Samsung launch even running Froyo. I noticed in Phonearena's preview of the Samsung Vibrant they tilted the phone to the right and it went into landscape. Unless something has changed I thought this was only possible with Froyo so maybe they are closer to releasing it then we think. I can't post a link to the video because I am new here but you can catch the rotation to the right at the 19 second mark.

I didn't realize this was possible on Android 2.1 or is it just something Samsung added to the Galaxy S? If so I have to agree thats a pretty cool addon!
As much as I really wish it was true, looking at the track records, it is not very promising.

You people are wanting Froyo before most of us in the US can even buy the phone. I'm envious.
There was a demo video where the reporter was told that the demo he was holding was 2.2 but that it was not going to ship with it. This was the ATT Captivate version and I saw the article on one of the big tech blogs, but I can't remember which one. Anyone??? I remember reading the info and thinking why on earth do they have 2.2 on a demo device only.

How about Galaxy 4?
They have Galaxy 3 (I5800) and Galaxy 5 (I5500), so Galaxy 4 (I5650) could be in the line ;-)
Basically the same as the galaxy s with a small oled screen on the bottom to be used for notifications, etc. I think they're calling the small screen the 'ticker' or something. It's just a refresh, not a next gen device.
Thats if it's the same device I read about...

And it will probably be US only. I wonder if this has better hardware than the rest of the Galaxy S line?

I think this will be their Google experience phone that will tie in with announcement for Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The signs are all there:
-No significant updates to their phones
-No news on major release for Q4 or Q1 2011
-Gingerbread statue arriving at Android offices
-Rumor mill about Google/Samsung Google Experience phone

What I think is it won't come to the Nexus One. Google said that they're aiming for 18 months guaranteed update for a phone, and the Nexus One is conveniently almost at the 18 months mark.

I'm actually optimistic about it since they didn't say the minimal specs for Ice cream, Also I'm Sure the Nexus S still supported which specs are not too far apart NS still runs a Single Core

I believe that was in referrence to Manufactures and how long they are required to support a device with current updates granting the hardware can handle it.
Google branded devices to my understanding ( they never stated otherwise ) will continue to be updated nexus1 included for many updates to come.
Glad they are merging into just one OS. While we might not like to Admit it .. thats a apple stratedgy to make one OS that fits all, makes updates much easier to manage.
However this is GOOGLE and i am sure they will be do it better than rotten apple.
I don't believe they will spend their time on the N1... I guess we're done with the N1
Hopefully they learned from the "version mess" bad news currently going through the press and "one OS for all" means really for all and every product including the nexus one and other hardware.

That is what I thought in the begging but now I actually think they will for the simple fact N1 was and still is A developer phone and specs still relevant.
Wouldn't surprise me if the Nexus One gets left out of this, it's already been from 2.1 to 2.3. Neither of the 2 previous dev phones have recieved this many updates in the first place.
Lets hope the new nexus device for this year is a phone and not a tablet!
Ice Cream Sandwich is scheduled for a Q4 release and will come with a new Nexus device, dual core or possibly quad core. I just hope its the Galaxy S2 frame, with all the codec support and Gorilla Glass =)
Nexus S will MOST LIKELY get updated as they just released the 4G version on Sprint. Nexus One is similar to the Nexus S bar NFC and FFC. The coupled Hardware Acceleration should make it fly even for a single core old Snapdragon though...

By Google not releasing Ice Cream to N1 owners would be the whole opposite of what Google is trying to advocate to manufactures & carriers. even if they said a 18 months which I think they should of made it 24 months it would of made more sense to people.
N1 is gonna get that update if NS gets that update, that's for sure.
In the end, I don't care if there is an official release from Google for the N1. Dev's here on XDA will port it over anyway.

I actually don't mind running stock I just wish I could use setcpu without rooting that would be my dream.
I like all the tweaking options that CM gives you, coupled with the full version of ADW Launcher EX and it's perfect.
IceCream should hopefully make for a cool desert on my N1

Nope, the Nexus S is not a Google Dev Phone. The most recent Google Dev Phone is still the Nexus One and can be purchased by developers from Google directly. The Nexus S is consumer focused, and there's a thread in the Nexus S forum that heavily denounce being called a Dev phone.
Mr. Schmidt in a 2 second quote confirms ICS to be released in October/November of this year. We already knew sometime in Q4, but it's good to hear an official confirmation!
Droid Life News: Eric Schmidt: Ice Cream Sandwich Coming In October/November
Just looking out!
hopefully that equals nexus prime and/or xoom2 being released by thanksgiving
For some reason I've been pretty much banking on the fact that ICS is coming out in October. I can't remember where I heard it (or even if I heard it), but October/November cannot come soon enough.
I had my mind set on December for some reason, so keeping to that so not to dissapointed by the delays.

Not to be anal about it but Google does not own Motorola yet. Google as entered into a definitive agreement (i.e. contractually binding) to purchase Motorola Mobility but it still has to go through regulatory approval in US and EU before it can be completed. The acquisition will probably not be complete before Q1 2012.

I must admit that this would be a smart move on Google's part. I mean... I love the Droid's: I think they are the best by far. And with Verizon's network and their 4G LTE speeds, and with the release of the Droid Bionic, we have another epic phone joining Team Droid.
If Google were to buy out Motorola Mobility, would this make the Droid family the new Nexus? Meaning... the Droid brand would then belong to Google? If so, I am looking forward to that! The Droid's would become the official Google devices that get all the updates first.

Yeah after looking at an article about this I see that now. Still would be a neat thought if the Droid family was the official name brand for the official Google devices.
anyone see that news saying thyxe think the nexus prime will now be called samsung galaxy nexus?
rubbish name IMO makes the Nexus phone sound more like a spin-off of a Samsung Galaxy range and not a Google phone... pft.
anyway I think and hope that the Xoom gets an update - there doesnt seem to be any big 'a new ICS tablet' rumors really around the corner - not like there was with the HC Nexus tablet of the past... and didnt they show ICS on the Xoom at Google I/O?

Could also mean they'll put more on sale on that date also, potentially the ROW rls too. Who knows.
I assumed so, since lollipop will be "released" on the 3rd it would make sense that the flagship lollipop device would release the same day.
Yay possible shipping of a handset about 5% of the Fan base can even pre-order GREAT, let me go put my chocolate tea pot on while i wait . . . . .
Well...guess today wasn't the day.
My conversation with the reps didnt say when it will be shipped. All they said was the Play edition is suppose to be different from the carrier one.

You assume that the n6 is Google's flagship, but I disagree. Since the n9 was released first & it is the first device to ship with 5.0, I would suggest that Google considers the n9 to be their flagship device at this time.
