Evo vs evo shift - EVO Shift 4G General

So I'm getting a replacement for my evo and I'm thinking about getting an evo shift so are you guys happy u went with the shift instead of evo
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Yes. I like having a battery that will last through the day. And a phone that fits in my pocket without needing to wear 2 size bigger pants. And it is wicked fast. Dare I say faster than the EVO.... At least the ones I've used.

For me it was all about a hardware keyboard. But the Shift is also faster and easier on battery. Coming from the Evo the smaller screen might take some getting use too though.
The Evo is also a much more popular phone so you will see more development for it and more ROM choices. All I wanted was CM7 so I'm fine with our ROM selection. And we do have MIUI and GB Sense that I think are mostly bugfree.
So if you don't mind the smaller screen, don't use the front facing camera and won't miss having HDMI out and want more battery life, a hardware keyboard and a processor overclockable to 1.8GHZ then the Shift is for you.

Can all shifts overclock to 1.8 or just some

Not all shifts are created equal. I was able to get mine to 1.8. Just fine but it froze up on me. Then I put it down to 1.5 and it didn't seem to be that much faster.
I think the x99 kernel is clocked perfectly. 1.2 is all. U need

Some kernels I'd freeze at 1.8 on one governor but not a different gov. At first I thought mine wouldn't do 1.8 but on a different gov it'd work fine.

Yeah at 1.8 ondemand would freeze in about 5 mins. mine likes conservative lol, the ONLY thing I miss about my EVO is the screen that's it, my buddy has a og EVO now its rooted running mikfroyo 4.5 I think and my shift smokes it on mikshift v1.1 all day

Isn't that just because on conservative it doesn't go to 1.8 alot

Love the shift, I would have liked a front cam but only thing I have to complain about is the selection of Roms.

I think I confused the Desire port and GB Sense when I said mostly bug free, the GB Sense does have bugs but you can download it through ROM Manager under bcnice20's ROMs.

I seem to be one of the few that can run 1.8/1.8 without it freezing, although the temp goes up quick so I just use it for benchmarks. I can use 1.8/1.2 and run dungeon defenders without any lag and the temp stays around 98

evo to shift
I've just recently switched from an Evo to a Shift and not looking back at all. Personally I find the battery life to be the same on custom roms...The Shift is certainly faster and quadrant scores prove it. I do miss the ROM selection the Evo offered though..if your a heavy flasher always looking for something new, keep the Evo..otherwise the Shift is a great device. My biggest reason for switching is the size. The Evo's screen was great at first, but really started to annoy me after a while.

Same for me on the screen size thing

is there an SBC-bcnice-stable-v8 for EVO SHIFT? this is the kernel for better battery life with auto bump charge. I use it on the regular EVO and would love to use it on the SHIFT. I tried flashing it but I guess I need one made for the shift. any help would be appreciated ...

Just the standard bcnice 1.5 kernel will treat you real well. Check top speeds incrementally if going to overclock...some can't go the full 1.5 and others can go higher.

With some Gingerbread ROMS already out and very polished, like RoyalGinger there's no reason it wouldn't handle any app that comes out in the coming months. The phone is quite fast as it is running at the stock clock speed of 1Ghz, and with the phone being able to be overclocked all the way up to 1.8Ghz there's lots of potential. I actually ran mine continuously overclocked to 1.5Ghz without any ill effect, but I took it down to 1.2Ghz because 1.5Ghz was just unnecessary and might actually rob me of some battery life during the day. It also has 768MB of RAM, which is more than most other flagship phones offer, like the G2x, that thing only has 512MB of RAM. Solid performance beyond the stock 1Ghz speed, plenty of RAM, and VERY polished and fully functional Gingerbread ROM's pretty much make it as futureproof as it can possibly be.
Y r so many people selling in XDA marketplace then? I don't really get it tbh. Looks like areally good phone tbh. I will keep this for quiet some time.

Well its gonna have gingerbread soon confirmed by HTC thats a good sign if u dnt want to root : ) I think it can keep up with upcomin apps for a year or so.... its a stable phone I put this phone thru hell I flashed alot of roms & modifications, normal everyday gettin out the car & phone drops but phone still goin strong so it should last..... Right now these dual-core phones are comin out so single core phones will pretty much die off....
I forgot to say that even at 1.5Ghz it still made it through a typical day with moderate use, and that was with a stock-based ROM, with something like RoyalGinger there's no question it would run for 14+ hours at 1.5Ghz under normal usage. This phone is a true powerhouse.

Probably people leaving T-mobile or trying to sell their phones to get a G2X, which from what I can see on the G2X forum is quite buggy right now. People report random reboots and issues with backlight bleeding on the screen on the G2X. I was thinking of getting one, but I'll pass on the G2X. I'll keep my eye on the HTC Sensation when it comes out, the main thing that attracts me to the Sensation is the new version of Sense and the bigger screen. However, I'd be perfectly happy to run my mt4g for the next two years.
Im running royalginger & I get easily with moderate use +12 hours overclocked at 1.3 ghz which is all basically u need, phone was fast out the box
No cons. At all. Solid build, VERY fast(never had a lag), HSPA+ 4G,etc. etc.
I love this phone but if u ate worrying about 2 yyears might as well get a dual core for now if.u want a mytouch phone I suggest to wait for the mytouch 4g slide or if u don't prefer the keyboard than the HTC.sensation which is rumored to be released June 8th

My biggest complaint is the speaker, sounds like rocks in a tin can. If you run cm. or cm. based roms the dsp manager will probably help the sound.

I haven't read any of this but I own the Mytouch and I had a vibrant for about 6 months. Pros of the vibrant: screen,16gb internal, has a better gpu. Pros of Mytouch. CPU alot more snappy, overclocking is alot more easy. On the vibrant 1.4 was the fastest oc but it always crashed. Max quadrant on my Mytouch I got a 3200 oc at 1.83 but normally I stay at 1.43 get about 2600 with the vibrant highest I got was 2200 oc at 1.4. I would say if you want a good phone now go for the Mytouch if you can wait go for the galaxy s 2 . That will be Samsung at its finest! 1.2 dual core.... dont get me started

U wont understand. Devs of the galaxy will. Toichwiz is a whole new system. It merged itself with the system. Like HTC sense. You can't simply delete the files. The system is dependent on it and will result in a boot loop. That's the touchwiz launcher you can remove but not touchwiz itself.

So as I read is a good switch... I have the opportunity to pay $40 and made the exchange from a Vibrant to HTC my touch.
Obviously I will miss the screen, but besides that the HTC is much better..
For example, I don't have GB, I don't have GPS, I don't have CM7, I don't have camera flash, I don't have FFC, I don't have auto focus...
With the switch will be resolved?
PS. I can't wait for S II but it will be expensive at the beginning.

g2 do you guys think this is a good idea... i dont like the hardware layout on the glacier ... the screen is small for a onboard keyboard and the glacier is overal really slow for a 1ghz processor and i hear the g2 is pretty fast even though it has a 800mhz processor any ideas adice???
The G2 is has a less powerful processor (MSM7230 vs the MT4G's MSM8255), has less RAM (512 vs the MT4G's 768), has a smaller screen (3.7" vs the MT4G's 3.8"), and is thicker with a crappy hinge. The MT4G is better in every way. If yours is "slow" for a 1GHz phone, then it's your setup.

Um, I've had no problem with that on CM7. Choose a good ROM by good devs and you won't have anything to worry about. Stock ROM is slow and has all sorts of added crap, which I'm sure is more conducive to bugs (and LAG!) than an AOSP-based ROM.

Do you want it themed or not?
Synergy and MikG are both Sense 2.1 + 3.0. They are probably a couple of the most popular ROMs, if not the most. Quite personally, I like MikG more than Synergy. Feels faster to me, and I've been a big Mik user since I started with my Evo.
Right now I am running EVOlvedROM r3chargeD, which is based on Mik3D, which is based on the HTC Evo 3D. So it is full Sense 3.0, themed and I love it.
Kernel, I use Lithid's Freedom kernel. Aggressive-Freedom Universal.
Links to my setup provided in my signature.
Partition your SD card to offload some weight from the phone itself: DELETES EVERYTHING OFF OF THE CARD SO BACK IT UP.
As far as themed I like the look of stock sense and i'll check those out. how fast is that kernel and what is the safest oc? (i only have my phone till I get home) thanks

[Q] Epic or Evo Shift?

Hey all. I've been looking to buy a new phone for a few weeks now, and have been leaning towards the Evo Shift. But my choice was the Epic months ago. So my question is; which would all of you prefer? Epic of Shift?
I've done much research, but I'd like to hear insight from some actual Epic users. I know the Epic offers Samsung's Super AMOLED display, and the shift doesn't. The Epic also has a bigger screen. But I believe the Shift has a faster processor? I've also heard that the sliding mechanism on the Epic can become loose fairly quickly with heavy use? Is this even true? I also know how the Epic doesn't have a fully functional Gingerbread build build yet. The Shift does, but there's only temp root at this time. I really do like Sense, but I've never tried Samsung's TouchWiz UI. Also, I know this is also a bigger phone, but is like, a brick? I definitely wouldn't want a phone to be pulling my pants down when it's in my pocket haha.
I'd really like to outweigh all the pros and cons before I go through with any purchase. Thanks!
Omg the epic wins on ALL fronts. CPU is faster, gpu is faster, keyboard is better, bigger screen, amoled over lcd (spliech!), its thinner, the cameras better, the speaker phone is louder and not tinny. The shift has absolutely nothing on the epic.

Epic has superior hardware in every way, but shift has aosp, sense 3.0, stable miui and stable cm7, whereas we don't. So Shift has more ROMs and dev support + they have stock gb too.
