is there an SBC-bcnice-stable-v8 for EVO SHIFT? this is the kernel for better battery life with auto bump charge. I use it on the regular EVO and would love to use it on the SHIFT. I tried flashing it but I guess I need one made for the shift. any help would be appreciated ...
Check the android dev section..bcnice has a 1.5 uv kernel

Naw, no one's bothered with an SBC kernel yet. Too busy getting GB and AOSP compatible kernels working fully.

isnt that an undervolting kernel? if anyone has one that has the AUTO-BUMP CHARGE and works with SENSE I would love it. I love having my EVO charged and wake up with it at 100% .. WHERE my Wife's SHIFT was on 97% when I checked it this morning...

Under volt is actually using less voltage at a specific clock speed. Lowering your frequencies with screen off is just under clocking

OK so which is the best EVO SHIFT battery life kernel ?
Just the standard bcnice 1.5 kernel will treat you real well. Check top speeds incrementally if going to overclock...some can't go the full 1.5 and others can go higher.

I can't see a visual difference between 1.5 and 1.8 though I of course got better linpack and what not but at 1.8 it would heat up if I played angry birds lol

Nope I didn't just root and then put trigger 2.6 that's it nothing else

You have to install a kernel that allows OC in order to do so. Even then you may get problems if you have a Vibrant thats picky about its voltages.

I was reluctant too, flashed the DOW14 and i'm really glad i did.
If you are OK with loss of Battery life over clocking is OK. For me, having a phone that after 24 hr of moderate use I still have 65% battery left is Awesome !!
Giving that that up just to have a higher Linpack or other high benchmark score ...to me is pointless..........
It will kill you phone if you oc high frequency

All I know is that I can only hit about [email protected] 1GHz on Quadrant.... CM7 2.3.3 ... not sure if its this EVO or what but my white one always hit 1250 on stock ROM stock stock... It hit 1550 on CM6 final. I'm not sure if its the ROM because I don't have that phone for comparison.. (stolen)...
My 3G speeds are also very slow.. sorry if off topic. Id like to know if a different kernel would help the Quadrant score.

Ok explain to me how your rant about quadrant has anything to do with the op' s question? Besides quadrant means nothing Imho . And the new quadrant will give low numbers.
I have tried just about every kernel around and
SavageZen ranks up there pretty high .
stock cm7 is a close 2nd for me and my phone .
SavageZen has sbc built in just a heads up .
from my phone duh
SavagedZen by FAR is the best kernel. The battery life I had with the SZ kernels on CM7 was unreal.
And SBC dangers are a myth. Stop freaking out about that.

I have to say SavagedZen.

Savagezen cfs is what my phone agrees with. your options are stock, savagezen, and tiamat. I would try different ones and see what works for you. Remember to give a kernel a day or two to settle in

Savaged zen... no question. The SBC thing does make me worry, though (and 0.2.1 doesn't have a no-SBC version).

Uh there isn't a best or worst! There is only opinion's. But if you want the highest clocked and most stable for that speed than i would say Redstar's 1190 kernel
http://redstar.euroskank.com/2.6.37.4/LIVE_DANGEROUSLY/OC_1190/
Just my 2 cents, like a @ssh0l3 everyone has 1
The other two posters are correct--
1. Too high and phone issues, some phones can handle them, a lot can't--be careful
2. Benchmarks are useless and overrated--I have been flashing kernals for almost a year and irregardless of my benchmarks (I haven't even done one for months), the phone seems no differnet for day to day use
3. I prefer the stock one on nightlies--great volume on audio
4. IMHO
<- what he said!

So I'm getting a replacement for my evo and I'm thinking about getting an evo shift so are you guys happy u went with the shift instead of evo
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes. I like having a battery that will last through the day. And a phone that fits in my pocket without needing to wear 2 size bigger pants. And it is wicked fast. Dare I say faster than the EVO.... At least the ones I've used.
For me it was all about a hardware keyboard. But the Shift is also faster and easier on battery. Coming from the Evo the smaller screen might take some getting use too though.
The Evo is also a much more popular phone so you will see more development for it and more ROM choices. All I wanted was CM7 so I'm fine with our ROM selection. And we do have MIUI and GB Sense that I think are mostly bugfree.
So if you don't mind the smaller screen, don't use the front facing camera and won't miss having HDMI out and want more battery life, a hardware keyboard and a processor overclockable to 1.8GHZ then the Shift is for you.

Not all shifts are created equal. I was able to get mine to 1.8. Just fine but it froze up on me. Then I put it down to 1.5 and it didn't seem to be that much faster.
I think the x99 kernel is clocked perfectly. 1.2 is all. U need

Yeah at 1.8 ondemand would freeze in about 5 mins. mine likes conservative lol, the ONLY thing I miss about my EVO is the screen that's it, my buddy has a og EVO now its rooted running mikfroyo 4.5 I think and my shift smokes it on mikshift v1.1 all day

I seem to be one of the few that can run 1.8/1.8 without it freezing, although the temp goes up quick so I just use it for benchmarks. I can use 1.8/1.2 and run dungeon defenders without any lag and the temp stays around 98

evo to shift
I've just recently switched from an Evo to a Shift and not looking back at all. Personally I find the battery life to be the same on custom roms...The Shift is certainly faster and quadrant scores prove it. I do miss the ROM selection the Evo offered though..if your a heavy flasher always looking for something new, keep the Evo..otherwise the Shift is a great device. My biggest reason for switching is the size. The Evo's screen was great at first, but really started to annoy me after a while.
Same for me on the screen size thing

I started out with cm7 but the battery life was so-so. I tried a few other roms and kernel variations but nothing really stood out. My last rom was oxygen 2.1.4 using the netarchy kernel, but I was only getting about 1200ish in quadrant and oxygen seemed a little unstable.
I went back to using the new cm7 RC and the trinity UV kernel and the battery seems OK and i am getting around 2700 in quadrant.
Are there any other rom/kernel combinations that i should give a shot?

Don't base the ROMs speed on Quadrant alone, Oxygen is really fast.

Benchmarks regardless of what it is is pointless.

You might want to check that out. CM7 battery is fine for me. Like I said, Netarchy's 1.3.6 kernel (or 1.3.4) is a NECESSITY. use that and undervolt it using proton voltage control or setcpu and use the suggested volts suggested by proton (-20 across the board)
