[Q] thinking of sellig my glacier for a ..... - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

g2 do you guys think this is a good idea... i dont like the hardware layout on the glacier ... the screen is small for a onboard keyboard and the glacier is overal really slow for a 1ghz processor and i hear the g2 is pretty fast even though it has a 800mhz processor any ideas adice???

The G2 is has a less powerful processor (MSM7230 vs the MT4G's MSM8255), has less RAM (512 vs the MT4G's 768), has a smaller screen (3.7" vs the MT4G's 3.8"), and is thicker with a crappy hinge. The MT4G is better in every way. If yours is "slow" for a 1GHz phone, then it's your setup.

if you think that its laggy on the MT4g try running the same on the G2 and you'll be even slower lols.. i can concur that screen real estate get diminished due to the on screen keyboard though.

Um, I've had no problem with that on CM7. Choose a good ROM by good devs and you won't have anything to worry about. Stock ROM is slow and has all sorts of added crap, which I'm sure is more conducive to bugs (and LAG!) than an AOSP-based ROM.

downloading ...... are there any blury mms issues or anything like that...anythng now working at all except gtalk... i dont use the ffc and also does anyone know the name off the widget that has the BT wifi data brightness buttons on it? ok this is the first rom ive flashed on the mt4g hope it works lol

man you wernt lyin kid. even with adw ex its still alot faster than stock glacier and none of that bloatware crap... i was a bit hesitant flashing a rom but now im like wtf took me so long haha .... would the dsp manager eq conflict with the power amp app eq?

is a really bad idea selling ur mytouch 4g for g2. i had both phones, mytouch 4g is way faster then g2

already having intermitent call connection with royal ginger

Change the ROM and u'll be just fine. I had around 15 pda's and I can tell for sure it makes the difference.
Cheers!

I would hardly call it a "rom", its more like a "theme". There is no actual development done, just someone else's kernel pasted into cm6.1.1, and a half dozen png's changed....
LOL

Well, whatever you would like to call it, i stand corrected. BUT, it looks better than any rom, mod, theme, I've ever seen.

no doubt CM have a good quality rom, but we talking about looks here, sense is awesome for the animation, i have try CM and agreed it is a good rom but i missed things like Friends stream, News stream and little things that sense has. its not as quick but its not that bad either
Looks meh. I prefer stock Gingerbread with ADW EX.

+1 to this l, bro. However, given that there are no sense-based phones with an official gingerbread update from HTC, this seems highly unlikely to happen until then. Otherwise the rom will need to be built from scratch, which makes such a thing highly undeaireable from the Dev standpoint, I'd imagine.

alright, perhaps I need to rephrase. I find that, compared to the crap on the stock rom, a True sense-based ROM is much less bogged down with useless software (IMHO)and includes programs I actually like and use (reader, locations, htc hub for skins, etc). Yes, compared to an AOSP rom or CM, it is much more bloated, but all that comes from the polish applied to the UI which I happen to find quite appealing, but which some do not.
+1 to that... Sense is such a great thing, i love everything it has to offer! just wish the battery life could be a bit better~ other than that i use it as my daily driver!
I know alot of people who don't like sense, when I ask why they can't Answer why. Sense looks good and works great. If someone could combine it with gingerbread I would be hooked. My first sense phone was the hd2 and after coming to the mytouch and seeing how good the sense was I was pleased with what they did.

htc sense is very nice vs stock android.. stock android is sooooooooo boring and doesnt have all the nice widgets that htc sense hooks it up with and the nice looking ui. but the only good thing about stock android is it doesnt take up as much ram as the htc sense does. thats the only thing ive noticed different. also gingerbread is nice to run but i keep going back to htc sense for all the nice widgets.. i really love the weather one.. ive seen apps like it but they arent the same at all.

I for one prefer the AOSP look of Android. And loath Sense, It's so much bloat for not enough to warrant it. and if you want those widgets you get to download what you want. And Launcher Pro has a good chunk of those widgets included in the launcher.
as far as "weather widgets" the one off the LG 2X is perfect enough for me.

I could do that.. but id like to hear what the general public says before adventuring into the world of sense roms. I'm running virtuous Rom right now. It's okay. Seems little laggy. Should be faster on the g2 then the evo which i have in front of me as we speak. Id like to say the G2 is much faster than the evo.

Are you using the standard or advanced kernel, and if the latter what are you OC'ing your phone to? I'm using the standard kernel, and my phone doesn't seem laggy at all. There are the occasional moments of slowness, but nothing to the point where I would consider it troublesome to me.

Does anyone know of a Sense-based ROM which has the Bluetooth A2DP bitpool size problem fixed?

Virtuous ROM 1.0.1 with Standard Kernel @ 1GHz for me. No lag what-so-ever and working great! lovin' it

Stock sense on MT4G?

Are there any good stock sense roms for the mytouch other than Evil's desire z and desire hd rom? I dont want a Panache rom because they are very slow and buggy.
Evil's Virtuous Fusion ROM is great; lightning fast and low on bugs.
Can't speak for the evil d sense 3.0 GB Rom...( forget the name) but I can say I've been on the royal panache for a out 24 hours now and its anything from slow.
I came from gorilla sense and it was great also. A 2.2 sense Rom.
I like the roms that were made for our phones as it makes sense they would work best.
I am going to try evils newest sense tomorrow. Sounds like it needs a bit.more tweaking though.

Royal panache is smooth but not as fast as evild fusion Rom, I've heard its slower cause of the debugging process.

I've used both virtuous fusion and royal panache for several days each. In the end, I went back to fusion, and it's what I'm running now. Have to say though - Royal Panache is incredibly smooth. Wondering what you guys are referring to when you say "fast" - how smooth the rom runs (i.e. no lag?)? Data speeds? How quick an app launches? All of the above?
I love virtuous fusion, largely because sense 3.0 is fun and new, but I don't think I'd go so far as to say it's faster than Royal Panache.
Like I said...Orange Glacier...it is not 3.0 and is as close to stock you can get without all of the BS..

I dont really believe that. The only thing that it really seemed to affect it the quadrant scoring and well....that is a worthless thing anyway.
Royal Panache is just as responsive as Virtious and it is less buggy. It is not a mix or a port from another device. It is made for our device.
Nvm I think I might be in love with Royal Panache.
just check out royal thunder its a great sense rom. Its sense 2.2.1 with everything working no bugs
I prefer the stock mytouch 4g with zeam as the launcher and took out all the bloatware and I replaced the msg app with GO SMS Pro. I get great battery life since doing this as well. I tried Royal Panache and it's great, especially the lock screen and being able to access apps from there but I didn't like the paid locations/GPS crap that is on there. If there is a way to remove it without causing errors I would most likely use it instead.

I dont really agree with you..
I was using Virtuous ROM. It was pretty cool, but when i flash a new virtuous rom without wiping, my DHD sometimes restarts. So i don't know if it was because od no wipe, or in the rom, i flashed runny 1.4, and i am happy with it.
I love Sense, hate iPhone, so i hate something like MIUI or whatever
It only takes a few more minutes to wipe and it's gonna lessen your chances of problems so i'm not sure why you don't. I'm sure you needed to wipe when you flashed runny too so I guess that was what the problem was. Anyway I hear nothing but good things about it so all the best

Thats the cool thing about android you have the choices!
I'm currently on MIUI and really love the theming possibilities (want another launcher effect? just hit 2 buttons and switch from 2d iphone style to 3d sense 3 style ), the fully working bluetooth drivers and the music app is just perfect. And it was worth it just for putting on the iphone4 theme and showing it to my applefanboy buddy. muhaha the look on his face - prizeless.
But i'm missing some sense stuff as well. Especially the camera and the mail/weather app. You have to make compromises or look for replacements with some apps. I think ill stick with MIUI until HTC releases an official Sense 3.x version for our DHD
