After my recent issues with my phone I took it into the O2 shop and had it sent off, I was a little aprehensive about it due to the "additions" made to my phones software, just had a call today to tell me that my phone is a right off and that they are sending a new phone out for me to collect tomorrow, Result thank you very much O2.
Good for u m8! Im glad that worked fine for u!

I am currently venting a lot of steam...
Today during the installation of a large machine at work, I left my TyTN on top of it whilst some contractors moved the 3 tonne equipment. Someone then put something heavy on top of my shiny new TyTN and next thing I know.... Screen smashed
Needless to say, I was speechless, and still am mortified.
Anyway, After coming to terms with the fact that no fancy reg hack or rom update is going to repair the screen, I realised that I am going to have to somehow have it repaired.
In essence, the LCD is not fractured. It appears that it is a glass cover over the LCD, but below the touchscreen sensor layer. I can't use the touchscreen over the smashed part but the LCD seems to be absolutely fine.
At some point, I'm going to need to send it off to somewhere for repair, but I don't yet know where to. Does anyone have any experience with physical repairs / costs / delay times of this nature?
It is my guess, that there are not many service centres in France where I live for HTC but maybe someone knows of an easy way out of this appalling mess?
Incidentally, I'm /trying/ to make an insurance claim through the customer, but they are so far unhelpful.
€850.... pah.... Gutted....
Rant turned into Repair centre test....
OK, so I've calmed down a bit now... and have decided to turn this into a repair centre test - just in case anyone is remotely interested in my woe - or indeed the performance of french HTC repair centres
I sent an email using the form on the HTC support website this evening telling them of my problem and asking about the best / fastest way to get the phone repaired.
I am located near Grenoble in France so we shall see just how well this proceeds - and how much cash I have to throw at it.
If anyone thinks that this is a waste of thread.. then let me know and i'll not post any updates
I sincerely hope no-one else damages their TyTN.... it hurts!
I think many will like to know about your updates.. and good to have a thread to 'point' to whenever someone has the same problem. LCD replacement is a common problems.. so common that they are selling LCD spares on eBay.
Ah thanks for that.
Anyway - just to report.. no reply email so far from HTC.

But on the contrary, I am very much interested in your future reports about HTC repairs. And of course I wish you luck!
Cheers
Daniel
Good luck with a reply rmorby.
I dropped my TyTN last Friday (8th September) and emailed the HTC service centre in the UK via the website on the Saturday. Today, one week later I am still waiting for a reply!
I rang the UK service centre on Wednesday (13th September) as I had not had a reply and was told that the IMEI number for my device was for a Dutch handset. I was told that I would therefore have to speak to Danguard in Germany to get it fixed! The operator went on to say that the Danguard phone lines we down and that I would have to email them!
That I did, on Wednesday, but am still waiting for a reply from them too! I rang Danguard in Germay on Friday - only to get a permanently engaged tone!
Come on HTC - what is going on with your support!!!
I'm much luckier. I had a problem with mine and had the UK service center to have it fixed. Mine is UK and under warantee. On average, it takes less than a week for them to fix and return. Although I have to send it back twice. That's, first, it was a dead speaker. Then, after I got the unit back, the there are something wrong with it that the in speaker mode, the unit gets very hot and drain battery like mad (e.g draining battery while in AC mode). After the 2nd time, it works like charm.
Well Christos, I sympathise greatly. I haven't had a reply yet from them either. I'm in France, and bought the device in France, but I guess no-one's on email at HTC. I'm going to be giving them a call on Monday to see if I can progress this. It's really frustrating not being able to use the touchscreen and having a dirty big crack over the LCD.... I think this is going to be expensive...
At least, like Hanmin said, if it just takes a week to sort out when they finally get going, then that's not too bad.
unbelievable.... I'm just stunned
Well, I haven't added to this for several reasons... Firstly, I'm on nights for a while and secondly... I've had very little news.
Since the 13th September I have had an insurance claim in for this. This is insurance from the shop I bought the phone from (FNAC) and I have sent the telephone to them for evaluation etc.
To cut a long story short, they periodically sent me automated emails saying that they were progressing it etc. They also appear to be using a QTEK repair centre because they called it a QTEK 9600 instead of an HTC-TyTN, so I hope that they really are the same.
Then - NOTHING.
So I phoned them, and they said that they sent the phone back to me on the 26th October - using a postal service that takes 2 days. I haven't received anything. They gave me a dodgy tracking number which didn't work and when I asked them for a good one, it's going to take 48 hours to find it.
I'm just a little bit frustrated. I want my TyTN back now - and I have no idea where it is!
I think they lost it!!!
Wahoo so sad...
Any good news????
Hope so for you.
I will just smash the shop! Get arrested! Get out and guess what!
Smash it AGAIN!
I can`t belive this disrespect for costumers!
Maybe becose I live in Japan and here the costumer STILL the KING..hope it last forever!
i sent of my phone with a keyboard that was sticking
due to me dropping marmalade onto it
anyway i told them, that the keyboard din't work, i was having problems with call quality, and there was cosmetic damage
t-mobile agreed to fix the keyboard for me, and that only
so i sent it off
an 2weeks later
it came back,
with a new screen, new mainboard, new case, new stylus, new batter, new battery cover
everything on it is new
so much so, then have sent me a certificate to confirm that my IMEI number has changed due to the ammount of work done on the phone
at the time of sending it off, it had a hungarian windows mobile 5 rom on it, as i couldnt find a english version at the time of downgrading
so t-mobile, reflashed it for me
so if anyone is with them, i would recommend if you have any problems
phone up
and tell them you want it fixing, and don't lie to them, just bend the truth a little, and maybe you will get as lucky as me
plus i was also told, all MDA vario's from t-mobile have a 24month warranty with t-mobile
=D
aye they did a similar thing with me. before i got into xda-devs i had some righ5t probs with me hermes.
well i took the first one back and then they replased that. cant remember the fault mind. that one went wrong so they replaced that and then this next one went wrong again! called them up complaining and apparently if they repair a phone 3 times you can ask for a totally different phone to replace it. asked how much the kaiser would be and they said 30 quid and could be with you tomorrow. i was a very happy man and now i got a hermes and a kaiser!
they never asked for the hermes back either so always a bonus eh.
so any you guys got any probs out there even if its tiny get on the phone to t-mobile. could soon have a kaiser for 30 quid!
I work for T-Mobile and it's HTC policy to replace rather than repair a faulty unit under warranty.
As long as the engineer who looks at it doesn't determine it as damaged they always send out a refurbished unit.
sweet
so new fone
an hmm, yh i think the screen is going a bit unsensative on this one
*wink*
lol kasier for £30 ull be my new years gift
haha
I have have been having a microphone hardware issue and am having to send my phone back to HTC. Has anyone had any experience sending their phone back what kind of turn around time is it? do they fix your phone or send you a refurb?
BTW I am in the US
Thanks Dave
Expect it to take at least a month from experience!
change of thought
The problem has seemed to have disappeared. I was having issues with people being able to hear me. like they would get every other word as an example. But after getting through tech support and all the joys of finally getting an RMA #. I haven't decided if I am going to send it back or not?
any thoughts
am currently running ATT version of WM6
btw
update
just an update, talked to a couple of people around the area and they have been having issues for about a month also. they switched to 3g about the first of dec. and that is when my issues started. I went to the ATT store and they replaced my sim so far so good so the phone is staying put for right now. I will post again if the problem comes back.
Dave
change of plan
Well after a little conversation with the ATT people, they are sending me a new phone. guess HTC wasn't the way to go.
My experience (just for the sake of the original topic) was i sent my Tytn to HTC (UK) and within a week i got it back with the screen alignment issue sorted. Nice.
Hey guys, I was wondering what your experiences are with the SE Warranty. I realize that a lot of companies try to shaft customer and I was wondering if SE was any different. How are they? are they quick and prompt or slow and stalling? The reason i ask is because for I seem to have a pixel stuck on my camera (there's a dot when i try to take photos, right in the middle of the screen), the lady said it was covered under warranty but im trying to figure out if i should sent it in right now or just wait until a bigger thing happens. What do you guys thinks?
I don't know how it works in the USA, but in the UK my experience has been mixed; good but not fast.
They fixed my phone when the headphone jack failed although I had no proof of purchase, so if they were looking for excuses not to help, they could have found them.
They treated me as a premium customer, as I have their premium device, so the service on the phone before sending the item was great.
Once I sent it however, it did take quite a while to get it fixed and returned, though there were a couple of public holidays during this time that would have slower them down.
Here they use Kuehne-Nagel Logistics to handle the repair, but I don't know who they use in the USA.
I'd say if your problem is really annoying you, and you have a spare phone to use while it's away for probably up to 2-3 weeks, then send it away & it'll come back fixed. If 2-3 weeks without your Xperia is not worth it, then don't send it away.
Here in Germany they work extremely fast. I sended in my handset on Saturday and got it back on Tuesday morning. Just my experience.
Just got off the phone from Orange and they are sending me a refurbed X10.
Anyone know what the quality of the phone will be?

What led to your conversation?
Was changing my direct debit details & the guy said he couldnt hear me very well, I have had a bit of crackling during calls for a while & losing signal a lot recently.
He put me through to handset department who said they would replace the handset.
I have had the phone for just shy of 6 months and didnt realise I could change the phone for free.

If you have insurance I'd be demanding a new one, I'd demand one anyway if is only that old. As for the quality I couldn't say, but depending on the state of it you could also ask for that to be replaced too.
Should, emphasize on should be like new. A graded, so some parts will be old. Don't worry, but fully test it.

are you on contract and do you have orange care?
if so then its a new one your getting not a refurbished
IF it's refurbished I would be basicly new. Just without the box ect. It will be in very good condition and fully working.
My refurb was new. Not even a scratch on it.
Thanks folks your replies have put my mind at ease. I will post tommorrow to let you all know how the phone is.
I got 4 refurbished xperia x10, not a good experience at all they all had problems for me
