I am currently venting a lot of steam...
Today during the installation of a large machine at work, I left my TyTN on top of it whilst some contractors moved the 3 tonne equipment. Someone then put something heavy on top of my shiny new TyTN and next thing I know.... Screen smashed
Needless to say, I was speechless, and still am mortified.
Anyway, After coming to terms with the fact that no fancy reg hack or rom update is going to repair the screen, I realised that I am going to have to somehow have it repaired.
In essence, the LCD is not fractured. It appears that it is a glass cover over the LCD, but below the touchscreen sensor layer. I can't use the touchscreen over the smashed part but the LCD seems to be absolutely fine.
At some point, I'm going to need to send it off to somewhere for repair, but I don't yet know where to. Does anyone have any experience with physical repairs / costs / delay times of this nature?
It is my guess, that there are not many service centres in France where I live for HTC but maybe someone knows of an easy way out of this appalling mess?
Incidentally, I'm /trying/ to make an insurance claim through the customer, but they are so far unhelpful.
€850.... pah.... Gutted....
Rant turned into Repair centre test....
OK, so I've calmed down a bit now... and have decided to turn this into a repair centre test - just in case anyone is remotely interested in my woe - or indeed the performance of french HTC repair centres
I sent an email using the form on the HTC support website this evening telling them of my problem and asking about the best / fastest way to get the phone repaired.
I am located near Grenoble in France so we shall see just how well this proceeds - and how much cash I have to throw at it.
If anyone thinks that this is a waste of thread.. then let me know and i'll not post any updates
I sincerely hope no-one else damages their TyTN.... it hurts!
I think many will like to know about your updates.. and good to have a thread to 'point' to whenever someone has the same problem. LCD replacement is a common problems.. so common that they are selling LCD spares on eBay.
Ah thanks for that.
Anyway - just to report.. no reply email so far from HTC.

Good luck with a reply rmorby.
I dropped my TyTN last Friday (8th September) and emailed the HTC service centre in the UK via the website on the Saturday. Today, one week later I am still waiting for a reply!
I rang the UK service centre on Wednesday (13th September) as I had not had a reply and was told that the IMEI number for my device was for a Dutch handset. I was told that I would therefore have to speak to Danguard in Germany to get it fixed! The operator went on to say that the Danguard phone lines we down and that I would have to email them!
That I did, on Wednesday, but am still waiting for a reply from them too! I rang Danguard in Germay on Friday - only to get a permanently engaged tone!
Come on HTC - what is going on with your support!!!
I'm much luckier. I had a problem with mine and had the UK service center to have it fixed. Mine is UK and under warantee. On average, it takes less than a week for them to fix and return. Although I have to send it back twice. That's, first, it was a dead speaker. Then, after I got the unit back, the there are something wrong with it that the in speaker mode, the unit gets very hot and drain battery like mad (e.g draining battery while in AC mode). After the 2nd time, it works like charm.
Well Christos, I sympathise greatly. I haven't had a reply yet from them either. I'm in France, and bought the device in France, but I guess no-one's on email at HTC. I'm going to be giving them a call on Monday to see if I can progress this. It's really frustrating not being able to use the touchscreen and having a dirty big crack over the LCD.... I think this is going to be expensive...
At least, like Hanmin said, if it just takes a week to sort out when they finally get going, then that's not too bad.
unbelievable.... I'm just stunned
Well, I haven't added to this for several reasons... Firstly, I'm on nights for a while and secondly... I've had very little news.
Since the 13th September I have had an insurance claim in for this. This is insurance from the shop I bought the phone from (FNAC) and I have sent the telephone to them for evaluation etc.
To cut a long story short, they periodically sent me automated emails saying that they were progressing it etc. They also appear to be using a QTEK repair centre because they called it a QTEK 9600 instead of an HTC-TyTN, so I hope that they really are the same.
Then - NOTHING.
So I phoned them, and they said that they sent the phone back to me on the 26th October - using a postal service that takes 2 days. I haven't received anything. They gave me a dodgy tracking number which didn't work and when I asked them for a good one, it's going to take 48 hours to find it.
I'm just a little bit frustrated. I want my TyTN back now - and I have no idea where it is!
I think they lost it!!!
Wahoo so sad...
Any good news????
Hope so for you.
I will just smash the shop! Get arrested! Get out and guess what!
Smash it AGAIN!
I can`t belive this disrespect for costumers!
Maybe becose I live in Japan and here the costumer STILL the KING..hope it last forever!

Hi!
I've got crack on my screen- and you wan't belive me, but nothing has happen! I haven't drop this PDA, nothing elese in the pocket, I haven't seat on that pocket etc.. Just opened AND..
Anyway, I've to fix this ASAP
What are my options? Propably it is not covered by warranty so it is pointless (imho) to speak to them.
Who can fix this? How much do I've to pay?
Or, what's the cheapest option now to buy new EXEC?
Any ideas? Or... maybe I can buy just screen and someone can repalce this?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers,
Chris
Easy enought to swop yourself - screens are approx £130, but give the o2 helpline a call for a fitted quote to see what they offer as this will maintain warranty on the device.
Is it the LCD or digitiser itself that has broken? (Ink splodge or crack? )
Richard
Thanks for your quick reply!
Unfortunatly LCD (touch screen is still working).
Yes, I'll give them a call today.
£130 is NOT THAT MUCH to be honest.

That's the screen cost from Taipei after shipping and tax - o2's price is likely to be higher.
Richard
Thanks!
Yes, I know O2 will be around £185...
Why it is so expensive ? 30% just for the screen...
Is there any chance to fix this under warranity?

Chris

They are charging you to *fit* it as well. No chance under warranty methinks but maybe if you bought the insurance now and claimed in 6 - 8 weeks? ;-)

Screen Broken
My Exec screen also cracked (round the back) It was in my pocket and certainly hadn't been dropped and the case was unmarked and the front of the screen was unmarked So I cant see that it had been knocked or crushed. They replaced it free of charge as a 'gesture of goodwill' - Having said that I have the o2 gold insurance so I wasnt going to pay anyway.
Sadly it took them over a month to get me a replacement, despite numerous calls and emails, so at the end of the contract I wont be going back to O2.
I wonder if this screen thing is in fact a manufacturing problem rather than user error. It might be worth saying that 'you've heard that other users have experienced cracked screens...'

A manufacturing fault and just being vulnerable to damage are not the same thing, sadly. They don't usually break unless you leave them in the cold / in your back pocket as you sit down / face open in your pocket with your keys etc etc. If the digitiser stops working on loads of units with no intervention - that's a manufacturing fault, but lots of people breaking the LCD's? might be easily done - but ultimatley their own fault either by carelessness or accident. My advice - buy a case!
Richard
( who puts all his pda's in his back pocket and sits down on them with his fat ass with no issues so far )
My exec was in O2 for a repair for bloody 8 weeks !!! (it arrived today...).
I had pleased them, mail and phone-bomb them, threatened them to death and court, but they still have pissed on me from the high...
So, my conclusion > NO FING WAY that I`ll give my Exec to O2 again....
Not speaking about that 185 pounds they wanted BEFORE they repaired it (like second week they had it)...
8 weeks?
Paying 185 quid for repair and wait 8 weeks???
Wow, thanks for that post...
Anyway, thank you for all your replys- I've got one more question.. can some1 give an email address to Service dept please? I've tried yesterday to call them but line was busy (
Thank you for your support!
Cheers!
Chris
I've also had this problem - the screen crack looks to me as though it's at the point which gets stressed the most when the screen is flipped around during opening. The warranty expressly excludes cracked LCDs. Which has to give you a clue...
My advice - if you ever buy one do it on a credit card with insurance which covers it. Mine is paying for the repair.
Hi Alec,
I've got this EXEC as a upgrade so they just charged my account (direct debit). Also, I've got just HSBC CC and there is no inssurance.
The other thing is- sales agent FORGOT to add this £5 insurance to my account!!! Also, he should change my tarif- which wasn't done
So I'm very upset with o2 sales agents
My next contract will be propably with T-MOBILE (I'm half German so... )
Cheers!

Richard,
I remeber agent's name - Nick. His extension number was 21SOMETHING AFIK Do they record every call? For haw long do they keep them?
Anyway, is too late...
Soo, i'm ready to pay this £185- but I'd like to mek sure that this screen fill be fixed withn let say 1-2 weeks MAX!
Thanks anyway...
Chris
Dunno how long they keep the records, but if he did the upgrade his name and the time will be on the notes for your account as he'll want the commision - at least ask operator X who did the upgrade and what extension (nicely) than ask operator Y to speak to 'Nicks' supervisor as he didn't add the insurance you asked for - it may even be detailed in the notes anyway as I would think they get commision for that as well.
Richard
DAMN,..I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM!!
I always carried my device very carefull. Yesterday I opened the device and the screen was cracked. nothing on the outside, only the screen had a crack and is useless now. I had to send it to T-Mobile since my garentee is one year (sorry for the bad english)
Very strange,.. is seems like the screen can crack without bumping it to something.
Arjan
Arjan,
I'm so sorry to hear this... And as far I know they wan't fix this under warranity Anyway, TRY!
Also, can you please ask them how much they are going to charge you and let me know?
Many thanks and goodl luck with this one!
Cheers!
Well,.
I phoned up T-mobile NL. and they said I might be under warrenty, since the device is less than one year old. The sent me an enveloppe for the device to sent back. So I did yesterday, including the ticket I got when I bought the device.
I would take 10 days (they said) to fix it and sent back. If it woudn't fall under warrenty the device would be sent back fixed with a bill...
I really hope it will be fixed without having to pay. I was really carefull with it...
Arjan
Hmm, I'm not that careful- I've got some scratches...
Anyway, it was VERY expensive weekend (I had to cancel my trip Germany- Lufthansa, only taxes refunded, canceled car hire reservation, broken screen in my PDA, ALMOST crashed my mondeo, some other unplaned expenses) so 200 more is not a big deal
M8, hopefuly they will fix your PDA for free
let me know please!
Cheers!

I understand guys..what u all are going thru..my screen has broken not once but twice..n like some of u guys mentioned i had never put any stress on my device...still it broke..for the first change, i had to pay( i fought with imate management but they didnt do anything..i have a post about our conversations) but second time, i just sent them a single email and they changed my screen for free.
Too b honest, i feel imate jasjar have some design issues...just like a blot appearing on keypads(extreme top left n right side) because the cushion padding is not effective.
What ill suggest, we should get together and email these people..however iknow that wont have much effect but still..it might have some effect..
So I've been reading the "let us file a complain to SE..." thread lately cuz well...you guess it...my phone developed a crack.
Anyway, I did see that some people have been getting "reconditioned units" that look worse than the ones they already have.
So, how many of you guys have had problems with the service offered by SE/Authorized dealers?
Really interested in this poll, since I just let my X1 to an authorized center...
However, I must admit that I am really unsatisfied with the repai time: they told me that I have to wait 15 working days! Man, what was the premium price for?!
I sent my phone in Tuesday and they still haven't received the phone even though the service center is 35miles away from here...
Add 3-5 working days to get my phone fixed plus another week to get my phone back...so I think I'm there as well
I got back the same phone after I sent it in for a software glitch that I failed repairing myself. It got back in exactly the same condition and earlier than I had thought.
My X1's screen started blacking out when slid open, so I reluctantly sent it in, having heard a lot about cracked plastics and scratched battery covers.
I got it back in just 3 days, which is apparently unusual even for SE service here. No extra scratches or damage.
Oh, and they didn't notice the Hard-SPL...
Well - i got my replacement through vodafone so it doesnt really count
Reading some of the Dutch Forums (e.g. tweakers.net), the average time is 6 weeks for Netherlands. Some poor guy waited 19 weeks.
http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1326523/20
That's almost HALF A YEAR.
Mine had stylus crack, battery crack, chipped case in three places.
4 weeks since I sent it in, and counting..
OMFG!
How is that possible???
Jeez man...4 weeks? How is it that you haven't killed them already?
If I don't have it by the end of next week I'm gonna drive there myself and have a talk with them...
wow....this is pathetic.
some of the buttons arent working smoothly these days..which means i am screwed if i send it for repair
seems im d only one wit a good story bout this..i got my phone back like 4 days
I sent my x1 to service because left-right buttons plus all other front buttons and touchpad were getting dead.i have to wait 15 min and reset phone 5 or 10 times to get device normal.f*ck sake!i am on contract with my service provider.they said i must wait minimum 2weeks just for answer REPAIR or Change.afterwards i must wait another 2weeks for repair or get new unit.i am gonna have big fight with SE.i am very disapointed.i am not gonna buy any other sony products even sony movies films
I went to a Vodafone store with repair service. Somehow they are authorized to repair phones for warranty. I only had to show my phone, they ordered the parts and they texted me when they received the parts. Then I could wait for it on location while they repaired my phone. I think that's a great service but it's more thanks to Vodafone. I live in the Netherlands, The Hague.

Hmmm, yes, so:
- SE repair service sucks
- Vodafone is great
But I really think that 4weeks is the maxiimum amout of time I would wait for a repair, not just a phone repair but whatever else. Never experienced a repair time longer than 4 weeks, and I would have been really upset hearing about 19 weeks!!!
But what about the repaired phone? Apart from Vodafone people, in ehat condition were your "new" phone? can you be more verbose than the poll?

Hmmm, u were lucky. This is what the Netherlands is like most of the time Mine was out of contract, but the problem is not the shop I went through in Rotterdam - been getting my phones from them for a few years now. I suspect it's the guys in NL who bought the service contract from Sony.

Perfectly repaired, but unfortunately now, a month later, I have 3 cracks. The parts are in so I have to go to the store again. I don't want to go to the store twice every month...
Well,
I brought my phone to an SE Service Center around my Corner. The Display shaked a little. I brought it in on the 7.5.09
Those guys sent the phone to the Xperia guys. Seems that only some people can fix it.
Well, I have not got it back yet. :-(
So I called the Xperia line. The told me, that they did not received it yet...
But the guy was friendly. He is now starting to find my phone. We will see what happens.

SONYERICSSON or a Network Provider???
Come on, in order for this poll to have any impact or make any sense, it should include at least WHICH Country and if SE direct or through a Service/Network Provider! Otherwise its just hot air!
I waited 5/6 weeks for my replacement to arrive aftre the sound went completely.
After SE took delivery initially I received an email to let me know it had arrived. Then nothing for a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and so on and so on.
The tracking website was never updated and I never received emails updating me on the progress. I phoned them all the time.
After 5/6 weeks I received a refurbished phone which [TBH] is in better condition than the phone I sent for repair, no consolation really.
Yea...WHAT tracking site? They never even acknowledged the fact that they received it. I had to phone today, to find out they got it on Friday. Even though I ASKED to be informed when they would actually get it...nada.
Anyway, when I talked to the representative and told him I want my phone repaired not replaced (because mine is scratch free and in perfect condition otherwise) he was like..."OH...we'll see what we can do"
People, how hard is to replace a back cover???
But I suppose it's good business taking good scratch free phones and replacing them with "functionally equivalent" but with cosmetic damaged ones...
@michaelthemage
The poll specifies SE Service.
And how many countried would you have included in the poll?
In my opinion, in makes no relevance what country you are in (even though I KNOW there are big differences between SE service centers). SE Service is a global thing, having an international warranty (at least European for me) so in my opinion the quality of their services should be viewed as a whole.
I for one bought my phone in France but since I'm doing an internship in the UK I sent it to Banbury.
So I do think the poll does make sense and I give thanks to all who have voted/will vote and who told me their SE related stories.
I got a global warranty card with my phone but it wasn't much help when my screen died. It is supposed to be a vip service for X1 owners where you can get a replacement phone the same day at any SE service center. Not quite. If you're in a place where they don't sell it, don't expect SE in your home country to send one to the service center you're visiting, they will not, period. And if you look close at the support site there's a somewhat hidden page that shows country by country what is (not-) available.
I shipped it off with fedex to the dealer, who said they will send one in return asap if I paid the courier. It cost me about 100 usd. When they received it, they changed their mind and said they needed the original box and booklets... and they couldn't just replace the phone (ten days since I bought it) and let me send the stuff when I returned home. Cheers...
That said, when I could deliver the box I got a new phone right away from the dealer. SE had no desire to help at all.
I don't like buying phones from operators, rather be free to choose who bills me for the calls, but if the operators service team are better at customer care, I may just do that next time.
Hallo everyone, I couldn't find any new threads so I'm starting a new one. I took my HD2 to a Milan service center because there was a slight crack in the LCD screen; the phone fell from my hands, it was in its case but cracked anyway..I accepted a hefty 201 Euro charge, and was told that I would get it back (fixed..) in 7/10 days. This was on My 18th. After 2 weeks I called and was told to call HTC directly, there were no news. HTC told me there was a shortage in LCD screens, the problem was being solved and to call back in another 2 weeks. I called yesterday (HTC Europe..) and I was told the problem is indefinite, they have no idea when it will be solved. I asked why wasn't I told right away, I could have kept my phone (it was working) until they had fixed the shortage...and so
today HTC called me back and proposed to return me the HTC2 NOT fixed, that I should ask the service center that I did not want to fix it, and I would "only" be charged for the delivery service to and from the HTC service.
At this I blew up, and said in NO WAY was i going to ask to have it back not fixed so it would look like I did NOT want it fixed...just so they could charge me for it! I still need a fixed phone! So I just told him to keep it there until they had solved the hardware problem, and I would have a consumers' association write to them...
..I'm thinking of buying a new phone, maybe this new Samsung Galaxy...
..but I'm SO ANGRY!!! NO MORE HTC!!!! Does anyone know what is going on? I've never heard of anything like this!!!
Sorry for your bad experience. Quite a few people here will be familiar this kind of thing. I once tried to make a warranty claim on my HTC Touch Pro...in the end I gave up.
Check how much the 'postage' charge is before you agree to anything. This and the handling fee is normally quite high (well, in the UK it is). Keep complaining about it and don't back down?
HTC bad customer support
Thanks for your reply Ouzo..but I am in now way going to get them to send me back the phone if they don't fix it, and have to pay for postage! I'm going to have a lawyer write to them, and a Consumers' Association. They can keep it until it's fixed. And they HAVE to fix it sooner or later or start paying penalties. The doc I signed says I have to pick it up within 90 days or I will be charged for deposit...
What I am going to do, is go out and buy another phone...and NEVER AGAIN an HTC...
I'm not sure if any of the other phone manufacturers are any better unfortunately. Either way, good luck with your new phone, and good luck getting your phone fixed by HTC.

I would never claim in a warranty for just this reason. Smash it pay the £20 for excess on the insurance get them to pick it up and take it away and get a replacement at the door.
I've done this two or three times with my mobile insurer, works a charm. I'd pay the £20 excess again and again just for the privilege of getting them to take it away and getting a replacement there and then.
HTC Customer support is bad!
Hi Kalavere, that's pretty funny! But unfortunately I don't have insurance. I didn't even have that option, it wasn't a telecom device, but I bought it unlocked from a regular store. I going for the Samsung Galaxy...and when they decide to send it back to me, it's being sold. Goodbye forever HTC..
(though I know that Samsung Customer Service will be just as bad...).
Can totally empathise with your situation. Sent my HTC Desire for repair (external speaker stopped working) in UK 6 weeks ago. Sent it in original retail packaging with battery.
Only just received a replacement today. It arrived in bubble wrap in a plastic envelope...no retail box, no battery and lost proof of purchase.
Have had several shouting matches with their p!$$ poor customer services deparment. Have emailed UKs BBC Watchdog TV programme for help in getting some sort of compensation. Will let you know if I get any joy.
In the meantime, I would recommend anyone else in the UK who has problems with HTC Customer Service to also email BBC Watchdog....the more that email, the more something might get done.

HTC servic in UK is boring at all.
HI Guys
1st
I used to had HTC Blackstone. After 1st warranty service I've received Blackstone with new touch panel and screen!!!But with death pixels more than 3!!!So it went back to Miltone Keynes service centre. After 2weeks+ I was happy owner of serviced Black100.
2nd
My HD2 is going to Miltone Keynes again after 1st warranty service.
Just day after I've received my phone
Again death pixel on screen, screen is not align in housing.
HOUSING is kind of secondhand!!! it is obviously not my!!! It has scratches on different places.
Maybe missing kapton around speaker.<--light is coming up from grid.Cool
Looks like serviced somewhere far far east you know that Communist country?!!!
For now I hate Miltone Keynes service centre.
They are trying us a stupid costumers?!!?
Lied on service explanation in both cases!!
Waisting my time!!!, their money and our green planet
Only who is profiting is UPS delivery company.
S..t happens after 1y7m on HTC I was without Phone for 1m2weeks+
PS:sorry for my funny Engl......
Yes they are shockingly bad.
My blackstone had newton rings so as I'm near them I dropped it in.
They wanted to charge me nearly £200 to repair something which in other countries they cover under warranty.
Thing is, they hadn't sent me a link to the tracking page so I only found out when I called up after 2 weeks for an update. Had I left it much longer they would have disposed of my phone without telling me.
I arranged with the call centre to be able to go in and pick my phone up but they hadn't told the repair centre so they were baffled with my arrival.
I then took the phone back to the store I bought it from for them to try and get a warranty repair, they got the phone back with a report of "no dead pixels found" when the fault report sent with the phone didn't mention dead pixels. The store offered to try again but having been without my phone for a month I wasn't keen, so they put it through as an insurance claim and I got a new phone the next morning.

I feel sorry for all UK HTC underwarranty c....
Looks like it's a group of poor paid people.
Or they just traying cheat on us.
By the way It's not real HTC they are just ''official service''
Hope HTC will change it soon!!!
SO say no to Miltone Keynes service centre or be realy careful.....
One good thing about it being in the UK is UK consumer laws are pretty decent.
Merely mentioning trading standards when I was in reception got them to change their tune and go get me my phone.
Had I a spare phone I could have reported them to trading standards for not fixing newton rings under warranty when I could provide evidence that in other countries they were allowing them as warranty faults.
I hope UK law will be behind us if what New Scientist said recently is true. Apparently, touch screens have a limited life because of the manufacturing process and rare earth metals used. They said most last just 18 months but that luckily, most users upgrade before then. My screen is already losing accuracy making text input difficult. After spending £500 I expect my phone to be working for alot more than 18 months.
that sux for y'all. Can y'all not have insurance that covers this for you. In the USA I pay for the insurance through t-mobile. When my hd2 kept overheating, I bricked it on purpose (just to make sure they didn't try and say there was nothing wrong), called t-mobile, told them it wouldn't turn on. They overnighted me a phone. Didn't cost me anything except the monthly insurance fee.

I hope UK law will be behind us if what New Scientist said recently is true. Apparently, touch screens have a limited life because of the manufacturing process and rare earth metals used. They said most last just 18 months but that luckily, most users upgrade before then. My screen is already losing accuracy making text input difficult. After spending £500 I expect my phone to be working for alot more than 18 months.

can understand how a screen might wear out if you dont use a screen protector, with one however it should last for a very long time... unless i dont understand the tech
just about warranty
this is not a tread about screen lifetime.
I just disagree withy way how guys in UK --> Miltones Keynes working.
Isurence if fine but it can't fix errors done by service centre.
Im not sure if my insurence is covering 1 second repair.
I don't know what the problem is. I had the crazy screen sensitivity issue, agged lines, random key presses.
Had the phone 9 months, called them, tried the latest ROM, same problem, sent it back, 2 weeks later it reappeared working perfectly, no problems, no scratches.
I coudn't be happier with their service.

The great thing about the consumer rights acts is you are entitled to a reasonable length of use out of a product, so even if it comes with just a 1 month warranty and it fails after 3 months, if you can argue that it was resonably expected to last that long then the law is on your side and you're entitled to repair/replacement.

Insurance is for damage/loss, not breakdowns. Breakdowns should be covered by warranty/consumer protection laws, after all, if you're sold a shoddy item, why should it cost you to bring it up to the quality item you paid for in the first place?
Of course if something isn't covered by the warranty there's nothing stopping someone damaging their phone and claiming on insurance for a replacement.
Generally we have lower premiums and an excess to pay in the event of a claim, although you could find a policy with no excess but higher premiums.
Well
my HD2 is again on the way to service centre.
Let's wait for it!
I was just havig look all around my HD2 Looks like they found some used one in better contidion.Replace the sticker with IMEI an SN.-->Maybe they've put even my HW in to it.because IMEI and SN is still same----->second hand housing, screen with death pixels, sreen was't align in housing and few small s..ts.

Personally, I would e-mail HTC both UK headquarters and their Taiwan headquarters and explain how their repair service is unacceptable and is affecting their brand image as a producer of quality phones.

Good Idea but have you got Email adr... to HTC Headquarters??
Hi..
Just let you know my experiences of HTC & my HD2
Had a problem with the USB charging socket, it was loose/broken - the phone would no longer charge. Contacted T-Mobile UK and they asked me to send it via one of their shops for repair, which I duly did. It went to SBE in Milton Keynes (T-Mobs official repairer) who found water ingress (??) and therefore claimed the damage was OOW. So I contact SBE who agreed their report was wrong and that the damage was in fact caused by crushing or dropping (??) & was still OOW, they then returned the phone to the shop still broken.
So I emailed T-Mobs customer service and they suggested that if I was not happy (as if I would be) I should get a second opinion from HTC UK themselves and provided a phone number. I contacted them and they arranged for the phone to be collected. In the meantime I searched the web and found a few people having issues similar to mine with the USB port so I collected as much evidence as I could and printed and packed it in with the phone before they collected it, along with a letter explaining that I, and many others, did not accept that the phone was 'Fit for purpose'...
2 weeks after they picked it up, a replacement arrives on my doorstep!!!, same serial number, different IMEI and definitely a different phone. During the time that they had it they never contacted me to say what they were doing and the online repair tracker just indicated that they had received my phone.
Since I've had the phone, which is faultless, I have had 2 calls and 1 email from HTC asking me to complete a customer satisfaction form!!!
So - I think HTC UK, are, with a bit of persuasion perhaps, ... Brilliant!.. However, T-Mob won't be getting my business again...
Milton Keynes (T-Mobs official repairer) = HTC service centrum

Problem is still in guys>>>>> Milton Keynes (T-Mobs official repairer)---->IT's HTC official service centree as well!!!!
Im sure all HTC from any NetProvider must be fix in Milton Keynes anyway.
Hmm..
I did ask the question when I spoke to HTC and the guy on the phone assured me that they were not SBE, even though both addresses were in Milton Keynes..
To be fair, the addresses I had were different as was the paperwork!
Just got my phone back (well a brand new one actually) from repair so thought I'd share the experience here in case any one else is thinking of doing it.
My phone was constantly restarting and some research on the inet suggested it needed a new motherboard.
Sent my phone in by recorded delivery had to pay £5.50 to get insurance to cover the cost of the phone but nm.
SBE received it the next working day (7th) and I checked the progress the day after at:
https://extranet.sbe-ltd.co.uk/enduser/index.php
This said:
SBE fault: None
Customer fault: Software (network services)
Or similar and something about repair finished send back to user.
So I phoned them using 01233 619320 to avoid the 0870 number (www.saynoto0870.com) and said that this wouldn't fix the problem and I'd have to pay to send it back to them so they agreed to hold it and said something about submersion testing (no me either) which they said was just longer testing.
A few days later the progress had changed to on hold with team leader. Finally I received a brand new phone today on the 17th. So its taken 10 days but I've got a new phone.
So basically check on their site and phone em and they'll do a proper test and fix your phone properly.
Thanks for sharing this. I have seen recently some bad experiences here on the x10 forum. So thanks for sharing a good story.
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 Cyanogen 6.1.3gingerbreadV1 ROM
i broke my USB too..instead repairing they gave me a new one )
Update: In my excitement and rush to get phone rooted ect before I went away for the weekend I didn't notice all the scratches around the edge and on the middle button and a dent on the top, also quite a bit of force is needed to get the headphones in. The usb mount was also a bit flakey and it stopped recharging (using plug) in the middle of the night. It has restarted for no reason but isn't doing it all the time as before. Lets hope these probs clear up.
It looked new as they had cleaned it up a bit and applied a new screen protector (I was told not to send the back cover in). So in summary a company that doesn't give a sh*t about your phone/customer service just how fast they can do a shoddy repair job and get money off SE who also don't give a sh*t.
Ive sent mine in 3 times for losing network reception occasionally and random reboots.
Each time they just do a software update, screening or some crap like that and send it back!??? WTF!!??
Anyhow, the last repair (3rd one), which was a VIP repair because i put in a complaint was returned to me on saturday 19th with an aerial change.
Im gona give it a couple of days and ring back on Weds for an exchange as the 3rd repair was escalated to VIP and obviously if that didnt fix it a replacement should be in order.
My advice.. after the 2nd repair if unsuccesfull, phone back and demand a replacement and have your case escalated to a higher team. That should get the ball rolling.
P.S
Thanks for the number, that 0870 is EXTORTIONATE!!
As a foreigner living in london, I'm kinda worried that when i send my phone to warranty i will never see it again :S
If you send it by recorded delivery you can prove they recieved it so wouldn't worry about that. Yeah they was about to send mine back with a software update until I rang up, so basically everyone needs to ring up to get em to do sumat!
