[Q] Basic questions about Android and its 31 flavors - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello. I have been following XDA since my first HTC phone the HTC Touch Pro 2. I was impressed by an ex girlfriends HTC phone when I had to dismantle and replace its screen. My current gf now owns that phone. I have been flashing my phones for quite some time and especially love the energy roms. Recently I have been much more busy with my career and life and have left behind many of my former passions (like wow). I have an HD2 and have just flashed it to a "rafdroid" build since it had HTC sense and seemed somewhat familiar. I already have to say I love the Android build. But I do have some questions that are beyond what I have had time to read up on. First off it is slow, really slow. I know I am doing an "SD" build which means I am running the OS off of my storage card. I assume that has a lot to do with it. I am ready to give up my windows build completely but hope it lends a hand in speed. I used to flash all of the time but have really grown comfortable with the SBP shell interface. I realize Andoid could be a lot more but I really want a beautiful snappy build that my phone can stand up to. When I bought the HD2 it was the phone to have but that has been a while now. What I am really looking for is advice as to is it worth it to leave a dying OS behind with my current phone (now that I have a family I am stuck with the same toys for a while) and how can I optimize it to its maximum ability. Also I haven't really even looked into it but can I flash my girlfriend's TP2 to a fast stable Android build as well? I do Windows support for a living and have always been a Windows guy but have recently become frustrated with its inability to share information such as calendars and tasks without an Exchange server (which is a given at work). I have began using Gmail and its associated apps more and more and so far am colored impressed. Any advice is appreciated and I know I could eventually dig up all of the info given enough time (but I am sneaking on the PC right now as the kids sleep). It seems logical that a non "SD build" would be a lot faster but before I lose my Windows GUI can someone confirm? Thank you again.

Search ultimate Droid in the nand forum... this my friend is the rom for your every wish... clean crisp & stable.... oh oh.... and FAST! Ive flashed several roms on my HD2 and and about 50x that number on my vibrant
... this by far is an amazing one to have stumbled acrossed... hope this helped

I have not tried he Ultimate Droid yet bit I have tried several Android ROMs and my favorite so far is Hyperdriid. But it is a nonsense Gingerbread ROM, and you said you like sense. Bit the main reason I posted in your thread is to tell you to check out my guide in my sig as it will help you out and I have two seperate guides on how to install Android on your HD2 at the top of my guide.
All the ROMs I have tried though have been very smooth and I find I am really liking the Clockwork Mod Recovery. I just got to switch from MAGLDR to cLK so I can charge my HD2 when it is off and so I can use ROM Manager.

Ultimate I believe is the same Creator I tried hyper and in defense think ultimate Droid is superior still should atleast try it lol later man

100% Functional ROM

I'm currently using a Vibrant (rooted, flashed, blah blah) but I've been looking into getting an HD2 to play with now that they're going for dirt cheap on craigslist. Before I do this, could anyone tell me if there are any 100% functional android roms out? I had an hd2 when it first came out, and wasn't a winmo fan. At all. But now that there's been a lot of progress made, I'm willing to give it another try.
No... there are currently no Android ROMs for the HD2. you still need a Windows Mobile ROM and run Android off of the SD
Please refer to the Android Development section in the other HD2 area for Android builds and news regarding Android development.
Nope, there is no a 100% working build yet. All android builds have users reporting SOD, long wake up time, and other issues like low in call volume levels.
Alright, thank you both. As for winmo, one of my main concerns was the lag in texting, using sense, etc. Have any steps been taken to improve these issues? I would search the forums if I could, but I'm getting a pretty lousy connection here in my building. Also, I didn't get very good 3g on my HD2. Have any connection fixes come out?
To answer your questions, No and Yes(Maybe). Texting through the HTC client is still as slow as ever, but if you disable it and use the regular WinMo text program everything is gravy. And the connection issues are probobly just your area, but you can always flash a new Radio ROM and see if it helps any.

Wow are stories are exactly the same! I had a HD2 the first week they came out then sold it because of WinMo. I also bought a Vibrant and still have it (Rooted and playing with ROMS). I now bought a HD2 to play with and experiment with ROMS and Android on it.

The world will never know!
I can tell you that there is an offical 3.15 tmo rom out there as a RC. I've put it on several phones and so far can state that it has cured all problems we've experienced with the HD2.
I need to test swype+text tho, forgot about that one!!
Official 3.15 ROM eh? Where is the link?
Actually it's 3.14, and still officially in testing phase, although it's more of a release candidate. Splash screen says "Test, not for sale" and all that.
So "official" was a bad choice of a word, but I did get it directly from TMO.
I too own the Vibrant and got an HD2 to play around with. The HD2 is nice, but I love my Vibrant, and would never use the HD2 as a primary phone until a complete Android port is available. Nice hardware, just a POS OS. I am curious to see what the update brings to WinMo on the HD2. It goes without saying that I am anxiously awaiting a 100% functional Droid ROM on this thing.
See, its people like this that bring WinMo down for no reason. WinMo, especially on the HD2 is no "POS OS". WinMo runs circles around Android as far as compatability and open-ness is concerned. Android may look "nicer"(if looking like Ubuntu is nice...), but WinMo has it where it counts...*cough no rooting to access file system cough*.

Have you tried installing Cookies Home Tab Editor on your HD2? It's free and makes a Winmo phone have the same functionality as Android with all of the icons, widgets, etc. Supports multiple pages of icons with a home screen just like Android, but also with the sweet Windows mobile stuff as well. Double the awesome. Check it out if you haven't.
WinMo is just a little more nerdy in terms of customization compared to the Iphone and Android. There is a lot to learn and if you aren't at least semi computer savvy and into nerding out on your phone (reading a lot), it's not the phone for you. I wouldn't recommend it for my 60 year old mom.
Mostly, Winmo phones aren't awesome out of the box usually. In terms of out of the box, the HD2 is the best winmo phone that I've seen. Sense is clean.
I have an HD2, Jailbroken Iphone and a Rooted G1 and have played with newer Android devices. The HD2 is by far, still the best. It just does more awesome stuff. You can customize anything on Winmo. ANYTHING.
I really like all three operating systems though. None of them suck.

[Q] Are you sick of Android yet

I have tried most of the Android versions over the past few months and have donated a coffee for several of my favorites, but Android just isn't for me.
I have an idea most of the participants in the Android forums already are chomping at the bit for NAND, but I wonder how many closet WinMo users still lurk.
I almost never have to deal with Reboot android...whereas in Winmo...a constant battle...
I'm lovin' Android, and it's only getting better, but I'm eagerly waiting WP7 on HD2. I really hope that day comes because WP7 and Android 2.2/3.0 on the same phone is INSANE!!
Because I have nothing but sarcasm to say I will simply say no.

Our HD2's hardkey won't last long
To the contrary, I am growing more and more fond of android. Rarely do I miss WinMo. Android meets all of my business needs and has allowed my to completely remove WM from any use at all. I am looking forward to a NAND flash and to future developments on the Android platform.

I trew the tower
I bought another phone already.
I couln't wait any more for NAND, I went for the G2, last saturday, I kinda miss my big screen. but I like the battery life in the G2, so far 2 days and it keeps going.
The reason I left the HD2 is because i was spending too much time trying to make android work 100%.
There is so many reasons I won't ever use Winmo again. I could write a book.
Even a simple things like set a password if the phone is not used for 1 hour are not correct, the device ask and ask the password every time it wakes up in any Rom.
I'll still wait for Android Nand, and will donate more when it is done.
Best regards
-Rober
by they way now that I have another phone, I'm trying to check the standby time of the HD2. I'll let you know guys,
yes, android on HD2 is broken and I don't think even NAND will fix it. I really don't want to downgrade screens but if the mytouch comes out and android is still unusable then i'll probably switch.
Android broken on HD2? I have a premature flash which is fixed from what I understand, and blurry MMS, which also has a fix. Just waiting for the next build. Otherwise, not broken.
Winmo? Froze every hour on the hour. Even with flashed ROMS. SBP shell lasted a few days till it slowed to a crawl.

I came from preordering the G1...to the MT3G...went to an iPhone 3G (sorry...had to see what the buzz was about)...to a Nexus One...to the HD2
I am very comfortable with Android and what it can do (though I never got into the development part...my career is testing software) I would say that I have seen much more incomplete software than the Android that we have.
The only reason I stood in line in March to buy my HD2 was because I knew that it would have Android sooner or later.
I never even really used my HD2 until early July when Darkstone first put out a Android build that didnt greenscreen after 2 minutes...I always used my Nexus as my daily driver. I could never get the hang of WinMo...even using good cooked ROMs like NRG and Kumar...along with CHT and SPB MS, it still felt very uncomfortable to move around in.
Am I tired of it? No way...I have not booted into WInMo since Darkstones first Desire build (except to upgrade ROM/Radio stuff), my Nexus has now taken its place in the closet and my HD2 is now my daily driver.
The only thing I'm sick of is the touchscreen freezes so I've had to completely remove all my sensors files to stay sane, fortunately other than that I'm content with Android at the moment and I'm one of the many who can't wait for NAND.
no offense but screen turn on lag one every build + data connection drops along with the occasional complete cell signal drop = broken and unless the devs can fix these things the HD2 will never go a single day without causing the user a headache in Android. BTW lol at t-mo and HTC bending the consumer over by rereleasing the HD2 as the HD7... slick move. That along with not releasing a 4.3" screen phone with android to compete with the HD7 is some great business practice.
The reason I sold my Android based Galaxy S was because I knew the HD2 and XDA developers was the ultimate team...
90% of the time I run Android now as it allows complete cloud syncing with my google account, facebook and online usage with flash is easy and nice to use.
the small remainder of the time I will use Windows mobile now for some of the applications in particular older apps like memory map navigator, pocket birds guides and the rest of the series and the camera is still better in Windows mobile.
I like the fact I have two devices in one, and later on XDA are bound to bring us Windows 7 on the HD2 which I will test also, what with NAND, Windows 7 and more updates and builds to test than any other device, the HD2 for me is the only device to own.
Oh yes and it runs Android slicker and smoother than my Samsung Galaxy S ever did...

I guess I've been spoiled for months. I've never been happier with my hd2. Im getting 12hrs of heavy use. No freezing, or drops in data. Nothing. The only time I need to restart is if I'd like to try something new. Android on my HD2 is perfect and not broken. Never been happier and couldn't possibly think about downgrading to something else.

at the end of the road?

It seems that android has come to an end for the HD2. There hasn't been major updates in a long time. Not just NAND but lets say the Light sensor hasn't been fixed in any clean froyo builds or random freezes and crashes. In regards to NAND, there hasn't been much activity going on with porting it. I wonder y? could it be that the project just got too old and boring or is it because windows phone 7? in any case it seems to me that this project is slowly coming to an end and only a few chefs are starting to realize it (shubCRAFT, Hyperdroid) are no longer supported (which is due to personal reasons too) i understand that. Im not angry or venting just confirming it. should I sell my [email protected] to get a My touch 4g or a g2? at this point it seems better than waiting for android to work.
I am not trying to anger anyone I just wanted to hear some thoughts.
Im using MDJ FroYo Sense Clean and its stable, fast and the battery drainage is really ok, so i dont think "android for hd2 comes to an end", but "android for hd2 becomes nearly perfect". Sure WP7 is here, so xda-chefs are working for first ROM for HD2 , but i don't think Android-Development is stopped completely
I don't think it will be at an end for years.... but they have done most of the major stuff they can do. I dont think nand is really working as well as they hoped it would... it sounds like it may be slower than sd card. They're still working on it, though. Bugs will continue to be worked on, too.
What more did you expect out of a port? They've done an amazing job. You can't expect it to be as stable and smooth as a native android phone. I always said if you want to use android full-time, you're better off with a native android phone. But what other phone can run winmo and android this well. And its the best winmo phone out there. And there's a possibility of running meego and wp7. Its gonna be my phone of choice for a long time still.

Very well said. I will never sell this phone for the mere fact that I can dual boot and the GPS on this thing is amazing. Way better than my Samsung Captivate.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Android on the hd2 is already better than I ever expected it to be, so I'm happy. I use winmo when I need the phone to be stable and for certain apps... then when I'm playing around or want to use certain android apps I can boot into android in less than a minute. What more could I want. If they were still developing winmo phones, I'd still buy winmo phones... most new winmo phones eventually run android good enough to use any apps you want to use.
People who say the hd2 runs android better than native android phones always compare it to android phones still running stock roms without tweaks. If you tweak and customize a native android phone, it runs way better than a hd2 ever will... that's why if I wanted android full-time I'd get a native phone.
But I love the many options and possibilities the hd2 offers... and I still like winmo and the way I can customize it. Android runs good enough for me on it.... and you can't run winmo on an android phone.

I fully agree with you. But I'm tired from winmo. I want to feel something new. Something undiscovered for me. Its something like a new car. But I've already bought hd2 and i don't want another phone. I just want android without Linux. I just want a fully based android for my phone.. so, can i get it anywhere?
Sorry for my bad English.

I think it'll be a big mistake to sell your HD2. It is probably be the best and most versatile Windows Mobile device ever built. One device able to run Windows Mobile, Android and very soon Windows Phone 7.
I'm currently been using Mdeejay Evosense 2.3 with hastarin kernel 7.8 and the latest pop wrapper currently being tested. For me android is 99% perfect and I've not had to boot back to Windows mobile in more than 2 weeks. The thing with these android builds is that you've got to try several till you find one which works for you. I tried 7 different builds before finding my current one.
However, we are all different and so you have to decide for yourself. If you feel you can't handle the various issues that are still being worked the, the maybe you should sell your HD2 and get a native android. I personally won't do that.

oh come on guys. Gingerbread is right around the corner. That will boost interest again. I started with the G1. Interest in it didn't die until i got the HD2. The main reason i got the HD2 is because the G1 couldn't run 2.2 very well. That has been a few months now and I'm sure they got things running well on it. Seriously and they said that the G1 wouldn't run 2.1!! The difference between G1 and HD2 TONS! I honestly dont think there will be anything that android releases that the HD2 wont be able to run.
Granted they have slowed down big time with the releases of android OS but thats a good thing. They were launching stuff so quickly it didn't give the devs time to make stuff rock solid.
I read today that the nexus 1 dev phones will have 2.3 (gingerbread) pushed to them next week! I'm ready bring it on! I know the devs here will tackle it asap.
I fail to see how it is anywhere near the end of the road. Android as it stands now is more stable for me than WinMo ever was. The only slight detractor is battery life which is still not bad at all, I get 20-22 hours straight out of my battery which is only slightly worse than I get with WinMo (about 26 hours).
The reason there's little in the way of amazing, groundbreaking advances in Android is because there's very little left to do. The latest kernels are fantastic, battery life has improved greatly, reliability is amazing now, there's very little left that doesn't work or breaks. I cannot remember the last time I've had a force close, screen of death or anything else terminal, and I no longer boot into windows at all.
Most of the chefs and devs here have things called "personal lives" that require time, and while there's little left to do they are spending time concentrating on themselves. Give it a few weeks/months until gingerbread comes along and the scene will pick up again. In the mean time feel free to get hold of the tools yourself and see what you can do?
If your Android doesn't work properly when I personally have installed Android on about 8 Hd2's for myself and my friends and they never have any complaints then you should investigate why, not give up and sell your phone. That's half the challenge!

[Q] What does Android run like on HD2

Hi Guys I am after some answers:-
I was interested in the HTC Desire HD and did not realise that the HD2 could dual boot so run WM6.5 and Android and from what I have read Android runs off the SD card so I have a few questions:-
1) How does Android run pretty much flawless....slow...buggy and only 720p recording doesn't work everything else does?
2) Anyone have a Desire, Desire HD and HD2 for comparison ?
3) What ROM is most like the desire HD I like the interface on that.
4) Can you sync outlook calender with HD2 Android ?
I am no stranger to flashing I have always had windows phones and flashed custom cooked roms and spl's so from what I have read up I will be ok to set this up myself.
thanks in advance.
It's not very stable yet but you can live with it if you don't mind a few battery pulls a day.
Thanks for the response so you would say that if I want a stable/smooth Android then go for the Desire HD or Galaxy S ?
I am on contract with T-Mobile at the moment and the Desire HD is out of stock and they can't tell me when it will come back into stock they have stock of the Galaxy which I here is due a Froyo 2.2 upgrade soon so the HD2 would have been the best of both worlds for me having WM and Android.
If you want pretty stable android, get native Android phones. If you want to have fun and have the choose to dual boot into Android,wm7, and megoo, get the Hd2. As far I'm aware, Android runs pretty damn nice on this babe. No major issues what so ever..

If you mainly want android and want it stable, go with the android phone. I'd wait for the desire HD if I were you. A 4.3 inch screen is great to have. But if you think you actually want winmo and will actually use it, then you might want to look at the hd2. Android runs decently on the hd2 ... its good for a port, but it will probably never be as stable as a native android phone. It takes a lot of work, research, and trial & error to tweak the hd2 to get android running well, but most people can get it running pretty well with some work.
If I were you, I would wait for the desire HD... it has the most ram, a big screen like the hd2, but with newer hardware and better multitouch than the hd2.

Not very stable? A few battery pulls a day? Complete bull**** if you have a somewhat recent build & kernel. There are some minor issues left, but Android on HD2 is certainly usable on a daily basis. If however you have the cash (and are willing to pay) then of course the HD will provide a (slightly) better Android experience, since it's native.
Thanks Atoore, well I really want it for the app store, games etc so I take it that works fine ? and to have best of both worlds really windows and android.
Can you get Wm7 on the HD2 already ? thats anther bonus !
I just got text saying my Desire HD will be with me in a few days but my plan was to sell it BNIB on ebay then pick up a HD for probably half the price for a very similar phone !
Anyone got any views on this ? who has gone Desire to Hd2 or HD2 to Desire ?
Thanks again guys.

I saw a guide someone wrote back in july for best wm6.5.3 and android but no doubt there has been great progress since then ?
I am running Mdeejay_FroYo_Sense_v._2.3_Clean for a while now (5 days) and have no issues whatsoever. (battery life remains bad though)
I have been using Android on the HD2 for about 3 weeks now. I had some issue in the first couple of days until I found a good ROM that just works. but after that, I can't really say I have anything to complain about!
The device used to hang a little in the first few days, but the cause was mainly some of the apps I used.
I did not really use WM since I got Android running on my HD2. it's certainly much nicer experience!
I have been using this ROM for quiet some time now with minimal issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780525
If you have custom ROM on your HD2, then all you need is make sure that this ROM supports Android (most of them do), then download the files to your device and run Android... that's it.
As for outlook calendar, AFAIK, you can sync it with Google calendar, then this will be synced to your device (you need Google account to set up your HD2)
I would say, go for it and give it a try, it's very different from WM
My honest opinion is its more the fun in it, initially I had battery pulls and screens of death but know that I have my radio right and rom right, and honestly the only reason I've shut it down was due to dead battery or replacing the kernel, from what I've heard the battery life in the desire be isn't great, neither is android on the hd2, but its drastically cheaper and its a learning experience.... do it

I am in the same boat as OP.
From what I have read, ROMs like Froyostone are totally solid.
People are claiming that it runs totally fine, with almost no issues at all.
I'm thinking of buying an HD2 just to run Android as my daily phone.
Would you not recommend this? I know the older roms were buggy, but from what i read it runs as good as a Desire (original).
Are people bullsh*tting? or is it really that good now?
I recently bought a HD2 just to run android.
Ive been using android on it for a few days and I gotta say its pretty good. Its not perfect, you do get some freeze ups, though they only last for a few seconds. Ive had some data drops, since then Ive installed the fix and it seems to be working fine now.
I know Id rather have the HD2 than the desire, the big screen is awesome.

As already mentioned: That's just completly bull****.
I'm running and upgrading my AndroidHD2 every few weeks since this summer and the first FroyoStone releases and pretty much all builds have become totally perfect, especially the desire builds.
I was running MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution v.1.6 until 1.7 was released this week and got freaking 3 days and 21 hours of battery life, that's almost a 400%+ compared to the days I was running WinMo 6.5.
If you're having fun to do stuff with your phone, tweaking it, installing new things and so on go for HD2, since its at 400$ atm I think.
If you just want a working phone and don't want to care about such stuff get the Desire HD oder whatever you like.

There is no best combo, people get all kinds of different results even with the same setup. It's probably due to different SD cards, not too sure on that though. It's going to take you a few days to figure out what's good for you, but once you have your WinMo build and Radio good, probably every Android build will run just fine, leaving stuff up to your own taste. Coming from an HTC Magic, I really liked Cyanogenmod so I'm running all kinds of CM-based roms (currently JDMS 1.5, it's the most recent one). If you like Sense, MDJ's builds are probably your best shot.
But again, there's no guide on what is best. If you feel like experimenting a bit, you're gonna have a good time, but if you want a 'no hassle' phone go for the Desire (HD). I bought my HD2 especially for Android btw, found it for about €250 on ebay (unlocked), while a desire would be at least 400 for inferior hardware.
So its totally sweet then.
Wicked.
It's a great deal, especially as the desire has battery life issues, I don't see the advantage ?

There's a reason HD2 prices on ebay have started increasing recently (at least in the UK) and it's because news is spreading about what can be done on it and what is in the pipeline. I only use Android on my HD2 and have done for two months now, Only reason I know what WinMo Rom I've got on my phone is cos it's listed in my sig lol.
Recent builds have gotten so stable I can't remember the last time I had an app crash on me, the market is flawless, I get very few data drops (and they don't last long either), camera is as good as under WinMo (5MP in other words) and very few other niggles. The main thing some peoples complain about is battery life, but that's only because they don't calibrate the battery properly (have your battery at 100% when you install a build and it will be fine tho).
I wanted a new Android phone but couldn't really afford a Vibrant, etc.
I decided to get the HD2, and I do not regret it. I use one of Darkstone's rom, and I've never had major issues with it.
I had some battery life issues, so I changed toHastarin's 8.2 kernel with Overclocking and Undervolting, and that solved my battery problem. I could get 2 days of light use if I wanted to, but I always use it a lot. With normal use I usually have 30-40% battery at the end of the day. With heavy use, I sometimes have to plug it in after about 12 hours of use, but that's rare.

It's not very stable yet but you can live with it if you don't mind a few battery pulls a day.

i have to agree with the other posters, that is bull. i use mccm build and i never had the need to pull the battery. if hd2 is far cheaper than desire hd and you prefer to save some money, i'd strongly consider hd2.
Im complety newbie in the android stuff....
first i buy HD2 only from WinMo...
but after i found so many fantastic build in XDA, im using android as daily for about a month now...
sure, it takes little bit working n searching.....
but for me, thats the beauty of it....
For now, i already found a couple build that i thought perfect enough, no lag or whatsoever....
but i still keep trying the other builds, just to see the difference...
sorry for my bad english........

What OS are you using as your daily driver?

Hi,
I was just curious about which OS is used the most, and which OS is used the least. Please submit your vote, so we can get an as accurate as possible picture. By Daily driver I mean which OS you're using right now to text, call and just use for your daily life.
A short list of the options and their definitions:
Stock Windows Mobile 6.5.x - You're using the stock rom that came with the device, or an official update.
Custom Windows Mobile 6.5.x - You've flashed a custom rom like Energy rom. Chances are you're changing the rom on a regular basis.
Android SD/RAM - You're running Android old school from your SD card, or you're using a RAM build.
Android NAND - You're using the latest and greatest NAND (Internal memory) build(s) out there!
Windows Phone 7 - You're loyal to Microsoft and decided to flash Redmond's latest and greatest.
Ubuntu - You decided a mobile OS just wasn't good enough, and you gave your HD2 a full desktop/netbook experience! Unlikely you're using this on a daily basis though
MeeGo - You're using MeeGo. I'm not sure if it's possible, as it hasn't been released yet, but it's worth a shot.
- If you're dualbooting, just choose the main one.
I'm curious what the results might be. I'm currently using Windows Phone 7 for texting, calling, some gaming and just for the general experience. I've also partitioned half of my SD card for Darkstone SuperRAM, just for Angry Birds and Scooter Hero. I think most people are using a Android NAND build by now though.
Android SD/RAM - Utterly smooth, I haven't changed builds for five weeks because I have no problems with this. First time my phone has been flawless in the 24 months I've had it (I'm including the Blackstone days! ).
I am very keen to go NAND. I'm just waiting until the ROMs have had a month under their belt so they are watertight. I would normally be flashing like mad, but I'm just too happy with my phone for now.
Not too interested in WP7. If it was as easy as switching memory cards, I'd probably give it a week's fair chance. But I think Android's got my heart!
ROM: Evo's Black&Blue remix
PAST Windows Phone 7 - Was using it but after 2 days I decided to change back to Winmo becouse it had too much limitations to my country and I didn't want to use an other Windows Live profile, but it is a great development. When it is better and available in my county I'm definitely going to use it. I have an key already . Try the chat-support if you're afraid to call
STOCK Windows Mobile 6.5 - Back to stock, it is OK but not perfect. See my Windows Phone 7 story why Windows Mobile. Why the stock version? I want to keep my warranty and Android SD builds are good enough for me.
Android SD/RAM - You don't need NAND when you use RAM builds. It's very fast. Android is good and I like it, when i'm going to put Windows Phone 7 next time on my phone I definitely putting Android on SD as well on my phone. The best combination ever.
Sorry for poor english
Looks like it's between android NAND and WP7 now
I used WP7 but am going back to Android right now... WP7 needs more work from Redmond before I might give it another chance.
Been off-line a couple of months.. Carnt believe all the new developments..
Iv just been running the Core Series ever since i got my Leo.
Sergio76 from the Core Cell Team has been working hard on their first CoreDroid HD NAND version. All i can say is your all in for a big surprise!!
Check my sig if you not familiar with Sergio76's work.
I used winmo stock for the first 3 weeks i had my Leo. Just while i got my head around the differences from my diamond. Then flashed an Energy 6.5.x build and not looked back (that was almost a year ago). I've used a couple of android SD builds and i came to the conclusion that it wasn't for me. It feels like an open source iphone for teenagers. Hell, i've used my sisters desire with the stock rom and the feel of the whole phone was lacking compared to my HD2.
This poll is a good idea there is just one problem with it. Android users are very vocal about their love of the operating system. Winmo users tend to be much less so. I think this has a lot to do with the user bases age range (ie alot older than most android users). I also think it has something to do with the original demographic Windows CE was aimed at - IT professionals. Winmo has grown from this and taken people like me with it. I find the integration and compatibility with the windows based networks i run to be the best feature of windows mobile and i'm yet to achieve that using android (and not for want of trying either).
I will try out WP7 but i'm waiting for the february update first. Copy/paste is a must for me.
using android nand atm. so far its awesome! battery life is great, runs really smooth and its pweety :3
i havent tested wp7 yet, although i really want to. Maybe when i have the time next week...
I'm still using nandroid at the moment although already bought a new sdcard to use for WP7. The reason I haven't moved to wp7 yet because I'm so questioning why there is no support from Cotulla, DFT and other Developers (they've disappeared since wp7 on hd2 issued) !!! Probably they're working hard for a better WP7 version, or they can't reach any more progress for WP7 on HD2, or some other reasons. Who knows???
BTW, my nandroid from RaiderX303 is really good now, so I'll wait to see what will happen to wp7 so that i can decide move to wp7 or not!
You guys just try out webbrowsing on wp7
I tried WP7 on my HD2 but could not get past the Live Services verification step. I've given up for now but I absolutely loved the interface and the web browsing. It made me seriously think about getting an HD7 as my next phone until I realised nothing is as open and moddable as Android. I've switched back to Android 2.3 on NAND.
Edit: Finally SUCCESS!!! I got the verification. Going to try WP7 for a while. A seriosuly annoying thing is that some apps that are free on Android Market are charged on WP7 Marketplace.
Last 2 days, I've used WP7 inc. live services and Android on SD Duel Boot. The best thing about WP7 is the smoothness of the OS although the multitouch sucks compared to Android.
I'm most likely gonna go back to Nandroid and use SD to test other Android builds.
So basically a duel boot android/android.
WP7 for me, well at least for the last four days...here is why
GPS...Instant no waiting at all for a fix, using Endomondo for running, the route is spot on, best i have ever seen on any of my other phones, or even this HD2 running WM to Android.
SOUND...the sound quality, through headphones on WP7 is second none, why on eaarth its so much better than Android I really don't know and the ZUNE player and online stuff is simply fantastic
OFFICE...miles better than WM office, Android office apps just don't cut it
GAMES...try Harvest wow can't believe my HD2 is actually running this. loads more to try, also loving AlphaJAX bit like scrabble and wordsmith on Android only slicker.
INTERFACE...slick super fast, makes Android and WM on the HD2 seem antiquated
SOCIAL...the people update is simply perfect, facebook and twitter apps never look so good, loving the swiping about
KEYBOARD...never used such a easy to use keyboard, not sure why its so much better, I can type faster then on swipe, weird
Camera and Video... well this is hands down miles better than anything else for the HD2, did some filming at the weekend and the clarity is amazing
CALENDAR...quick easy and perfect for me to add and adjust my busy schedule
PHONE and SMS...sound quality and signal just work
Ok there are few teething problems but hopefully between XDA and Microsoft these will improve, ie...cut/paste, flash would be nice, but uses to much of my 3g allowance, Multitasking not that it needs it, it runs so fast, but perhaps being able to run my online radio with the brilliant rescoradio and do other things would be nice, otherwise you can have music running all the time and do other things, lets see what happens...
BTW you should cross MeeGo, 'cause it's not been released yet, not even a beta.
I'm using an Activated WP7
Lately I've been running MDJ Gingerbread CM7 flashed from recovery. I like being able to quickly create a clockworkmod backup, swap sd card, then flash WP7 or ubuntu just to mess around with. Afterward I can just flash back clockworkmod, stick my other sd card back in, restore and go right back to gingerbread.
Looking at the poll results thusfar, it seems that the HD2 has to be called an android phone xD
well, my hd2 runs on custom wm. have been jumping between energy and dutty rom. I must say both are equally good and rock stable. But i decided to stay with dutty because his comes with chinese input. tried andriod SD but it's eating battery as if it's free! so decided to stay with wm.
@OP
You forgot to include on the poll Windows 98 and 95 both running on Leo too

Perhaps a Senior Mod can add this ones

Actually, knowingly didn't add them as they don't support phone functions so they can't be used as a daily driver.
Guys using Stock Windows Mobile 6.5.x on device like HD2 don't deserve to be on XDA
