I have tried most of the Android versions over the past few months and have donated a coffee for several of my favorites, but Android just isn't for me.
I have an idea most of the participants in the Android forums already are chomping at the bit for NAND, but I wonder how many closet WinMo users still lurk.
I almost never have to deal with Reboot android...whereas in Winmo...a constant battle...
I'm lovin' Android, and it's only getting better, but I'm eagerly waiting WP7 on HD2. I really hope that day comes because WP7 and Android 2.2/3.0 on the same phone is INSANE!!
Because I have nothing but sarcasm to say I will simply say no.

Our HD2's hardkey won't last long
To the contrary, I am growing more and more fond of android. Rarely do I miss WinMo. Android meets all of my business needs and has allowed my to completely remove WM from any use at all. I am looking forward to a NAND flash and to future developments on the Android platform.

I trew the tower
I bought another phone already.
I couln't wait any more for NAND, I went for the G2, last saturday, I kinda miss my big screen. but I like the battery life in the G2, so far 2 days and it keeps going.
The reason I left the HD2 is because i was spending too much time trying to make android work 100%.
There is so many reasons I won't ever use Winmo again. I could write a book.
Even a simple things like set a password if the phone is not used for 1 hour are not correct, the device ask and ask the password every time it wakes up in any Rom.
I'll still wait for Android Nand, and will donate more when it is done.
Best regards
-Rober
by they way now that I have another phone, I'm trying to check the standby time of the HD2. I'll let you know guys,
yes, android on HD2 is broken and I don't think even NAND will fix it. I really don't want to downgrade screens but if the mytouch comes out and android is still unusable then i'll probably switch.
Android broken on HD2? I have a premature flash which is fixed from what I understand, and blurry MMS, which also has a fix. Just waiting for the next build. Otherwise, not broken.
Winmo? Froze every hour on the hour. Even with flashed ROMS. SBP shell lasted a few days till it slowed to a crawl.

I came from preordering the G1...to the MT3G...went to an iPhone 3G (sorry...had to see what the buzz was about)...to a Nexus One...to the HD2
I am very comfortable with Android and what it can do (though I never got into the development part...my career is testing software) I would say that I have seen much more incomplete software than the Android that we have.
The only reason I stood in line in March to buy my HD2 was because I knew that it would have Android sooner or later.
I never even really used my HD2 until early July when Darkstone first put out a Android build that didnt greenscreen after 2 minutes...I always used my Nexus as my daily driver. I could never get the hang of WinMo...even using good cooked ROMs like NRG and Kumar...along with CHT and SPB MS, it still felt very uncomfortable to move around in.
Am I tired of it? No way...I have not booted into WInMo since Darkstones first Desire build (except to upgrade ROM/Radio stuff), my Nexus has now taken its place in the closet and my HD2 is now my daily driver.
The only thing I'm sick of is the touchscreen freezes so I've had to completely remove all my sensors files to stay sane, fortunately other than that I'm content with Android at the moment and I'm one of the many who can't wait for NAND.
no offense but screen turn on lag one every build + data connection drops along with the occasional complete cell signal drop = broken and unless the devs can fix these things the HD2 will never go a single day without causing the user a headache in Android. BTW lol at t-mo and HTC bending the consumer over by rereleasing the HD2 as the HD7... slick move. That along with not releasing a 4.3" screen phone with android to compete with the HD7 is some great business practice.
The reason I sold my Android based Galaxy S was because I knew the HD2 and XDA developers was the ultimate team...
90% of the time I run Android now as it allows complete cloud syncing with my google account, facebook and online usage with flash is easy and nice to use.
the small remainder of the time I will use Windows mobile now for some of the applications in particular older apps like memory map navigator, pocket birds guides and the rest of the series and the camera is still better in Windows mobile.
I like the fact I have two devices in one, and later on XDA are bound to bring us Windows 7 on the HD2 which I will test also, what with NAND, Windows 7 and more updates and builds to test than any other device, the HD2 for me is the only device to own.
Oh yes and it runs Android slicker and smoother than my Samsung Galaxy S ever did...

I guess I've been spoiled for months. I've never been happier with my hd2. Im getting 12hrs of heavy use. No freezing, or drops in data. Nothing. The only time I need to restart is if I'd like to try something new. Android on my HD2 is perfect and not broken. Never been happier and couldn't possibly think about downgrading to something else.

Hiya - I am finally ok to upgrade with T-Mob! I been wanting the HD2 for a while, but now they are releasing the Desire (early April according to the latest info from T-Mob). Please tell me guys, should I wait for the Desire?
- Part of me loves WM part of me hates. Like when you want to make a call - it wont, or finish a call - theres always a few second delay or it doesnt want to stop!
I tried the HD2 in the T-Mob store, it looks great, love the keyboard etc... but it froze couple times. Is this really normal?
- I like the idea of Android.. but wonder if it still has teething probs...
All of you who had the HD2 plesae give your honest opinon... is it worth to take the plunge for the next 18 months or so?
cheers!!!
Go for the Desire... I have the HD2 and i don't regret buying it really... A very nice phone with great hardware etc... The problem is the software.. HTC, and its Sense, has done a very good job making the OS look pretty... And it is, no doubt about that.. The problem is this: Stability.... Every once in a while the phone crashes, becomes slow etc. and requires me to reset it, even pull the battery when its total chaos ... It's not THAT bad, but it pisses me off frankly
The good thing about WM is the ability to customize it.. The funny thing is that it's pretty much a requirement to do so, to make the phone's software act decent...
The desire has a smaller screen, but also a more comfortable form factor.. But, as i said, it all comes down to software and longsighted view... Android is a platform of the future, and even right now it has taken big steps towards mobile OS domination.. It's fast, stabile and good looking.. What more can you ask for?
but than again.. android also crashes... (I know cause my cousin told me..)
I've got the HD2.. and I'm very pleased with it.. and yes it anoys me when it crashes.. but this only happens with custom roms and not with the stock rom.
My opinon is that your choice shouldn't just be software related but it has to be the whole thing..
And the phone is good enough to survive the comming 2 years...
(especialy if we get an update to wm7 but its not confirmed yet. we'll hear that next month.)
To me me the HD2 is the best phone ever and curently there is no phone that is able to replace it!!!
yesterday I was holding my uncles touch pro 2 and was so slow to me..
I own a HD2 and love it, very very few crashes and the latest ROM from HTC fixes most problems people had at the beginning. I've got a friend who owns a Hero (Android + Sense) and complains all the time because of crashes and bad network signal and so on.
The Nexus One received a lot of bad press because of poor 3G signals but hopefully HTC have patched that so it shouldn't be an issue on the Desire.
Also, if WM7 is as closed as some make it out to be then I personally will be getting an Android next purchase. I had a G1 with some of the first iterations of Andriod and franky they were crap, but it has had some massive improvments since then and is looking very slick and has a great future ahead. I have not used any of the 2.0 versions but they have slowly been tempting me away from my HD2 and WM, the only thing holding me back is a spare pile of cash.
It all comes down to personal opinion and how much you want to do with it and if you want to tweak it. If you are more of a fiddly type and love messing with settings and stuff then get the HD2, if you just want to use it out of the box without doing anything to it then go with the Desire.
For me HD2 is my first WM phone and honestly I have no idea why are people slagging it so much. I have absolutelly no problems making phone calls, texting or doing anything else with my phone. It's been 2 months since I got and it crashed once and that was because of me installing some dodgy app. I think people moaning all the time just dont know how to use it properly. Its the same with Windows XP, Vista etc. Some of my pals restore their systems every few weeks while I've had my last XP instalation running for year and a half and it was still all right just a bit slow to boot up.
In conclusion - if you know what you doing there is nothing wrong with WM. If you want more idiotproof os go for android or iphone.
If the T-Mobile ROM is stable, then I would say get the HD2 with the bigger screen. I have the T9193 version and when it works, it is great. I have to do a lot more tweaking on it to get it to work the way I want it. The data connection constantly drops or is off even when I have full bars with the H logo. Youtube app doesn't work on mine, I have read there is a fix where I have to edit the registry to remove the cingular settings.
I want to try Android myself, I will ge the X10 when AT&T releases it.
I;ve own the HD2 for a month now with dutty's HG v0.9 ROM / 2.08 radio. and i dont know what crashes you guys are talking about. mines is completely stable.
buy the desire android gets ubdates more than windows mobile
HD2 is the best phone I have ever used. I have had it 3 weeks, not a single crash. I am still on the 1.48 ROM, had the sms sending issue, applied the htc patch, all working. everything works on my phone. Apart from sms everything worked out the box. I have applied all the tweak and improvements from Xda, made it that much better. Go with the HD2, you won't be sorry.

Yes, because it is a much younger platform that needs those updates. WM 6.5 is already quite stable and doesn't need all those updates.
Unless you are talking about GMaps, GGoggles etc. Because all those great free services that Google are offering are very temping.
I too own Hd2 and I dont really know wheter I totaly love it, or I hate it.
It is totaly fast compared to older devices. Winmo is great cuz it can be customizable. Winmo is stable base for app. I dont use HTC slowdown programs and It's quite satysfing.
On the other hand, winmo is quite slow and ugly. You have to customize, if you want decent device. Android is really looking great. Winmo 7 (windows phone 7 series) is total crap, full of LOOOOONG pointless animations, and no functionality (and ugly too). So there is no future. And android's future is quite bright, look at all these new and nice games for it.
Thats how it is. I love my HD2, but I'm really curious about android. So both ways are great choose if you ask me =)
Thanks
Thanks for your opinions/experience guys! Its going to be a tricky decision.. I normally go for the 18 month contract so hope I do the right thing. Never used android before, but it looks great, but then Im waiting now T-Mob to make me an offer I cant refuse...
In any case, you will have to wait until the end of March. By then, it will likely be clear whether the HD2 gets an upgrade to WP7 or not.
If the HD2 doesn't get an upgrade to WP7, then I'd say get the Desire. Windows Mobile 6.5 is dead (not yet, but soon). The Desire will at least get updates to future Android versions.
Right now, there are things that Windows Mobile does better, and there are things that Android does better. The quality of the applications on Android is certainly better than what you can find for Windows Mobile (there are about 30000 applications for both, but almost noone develops anymore for Windows Mobile 6.5).
Android has perfect integration with Google's services. Windows Mobile has not-so-perfect integration with Microsoft's services (e.g. you can't sync the calendar with Windows Live). Only Windows Mobile has good Exchange support, if you're an Exchange user.
Stability? That depends. I would not claim that one of them is more stable than the other. But Android works more smoothly (with transitions etc.).
My Nexus One has never crashed, and I have had it since before the launch.
hey all,
ive had my Hd2 for about 6 months and I'm thinking of getting rid of it for a N1 or a Desire. i mean is this a smart move?
my main reason is the lack if apps for the hd2 is pathetic and most are in the old skool windows mobile interface, which looks crap to the likes of the sense ui.
im also finding the slowdowns in win mo are driving me bonkers. for a high spec phone im not impressed.
course being that i have to lay down the best part of 400-600 pounds to get the forementioned phones id like the communities help. im tempted for a google N1 as the updates are more regular, but the sense UI on the hd2 i find really nice. so what would you guys say is the betterof the two? and would you get one over the hd2
thanks,
Luke
oh no... another one of those...
how the hell should we know?? vast majority of us in these parts of the forum have hd2, so isn't it better to ask those questions on android boards?
geez... how many threads like this do we need?
Im with mr. bronx on this one...
surely the HD2 community are the people to ask, as you've stayed with HD2, you'll be the most wise as to why not to get the android, and/or why you stayed with the HD2 over the new androids?

To be brutally honest, it is personal preference.
Every phone has it's issues.
Every operating system has it's issues.
Every owner has their issues with the above.
i have gone from the HD2 to the Desire and to honest for me anyway i find the desire and android a joy to use, dont get me wrong i still think the HD2 is a awesome phone but windows is a real pain sometimes.
im just hoping HTC gets us the android 2.2 update soon
android gets updates fast ,you will buy desire , and after one month android 2.2 is released ,and when upgrading officially to it ,android 3.0 will be released , android is not stable and very un mature os

is updated nearly every two years and mainly skinning updates ,as it has alll features that a mobile could have but android gets update every 2-3 monthes , which adds new features to catch up other mature os
ahh got you now
but everyone seems really happy with 2.2 features and it has everything i had on the HD2.
like it was said above its just a personal preference thing.
Keep your HTC HD 2 android is on the way, either by dual boot, or being that of htc evo coming out, and actual rom.
The HTC HD 2 is the most powerfull device out there, and you can do whatever you want with it, no restrictions nothing, you can have a vast majority of operating systems.
Most can be ported thanks to the lovely people here at XDA.

An android port to the HD2 is not going to be like an android phone that came with android. It will be a long time before the port is as functional as an android phone. You're probably not going to want to use the android port full time as it will be a while before it uses all the hardware properly like bluetooth, wifi, camera, sound, etc. There could also be heating issues, battery issues, stabilty issues, etc. People seem to think that the evo rom will easily be ported over and it will be fully functional. It doesn't work like that. The touch pro's android port has been developed for over a year and it still isn't nearly as functional as a full android phone.
Don't get me wrong... I can't wait to be able to boot into android on my HD2, but I expect it to be over a year from now until it will be good enough to want to use full time instead of WinMo 6.5. HD2 is a WinMo phone, and thats the only os that it will run well for probably at least the next 6months to year. It may never run another os good enough to use full-time.
Do what your heat tells you. Just playing. Honestly, its all about what you need your phone to deliver for you.
My phone completes what I want and makes me happy. I sometimes feel the lack of apps but it is no big deal.
All I really use on a daily basis are Stocks, weather, music player, youtube app and web browser. You will obviously find more apps for android.
Personally, I dont need all those apps you find for android like optical illusions, weird sounds and bla bla bla. Sure I need an app like NBA Game Time similar to that of android but nothing that I desperately need.
I just hop on espn with skyfire or Opera 10 Mobile and Im good.
Android lacks quality games just like Windows Mobile but FPSEce helps a little my HD2.
My sisters own a Motorola Cliq and a Droid and nothing to major for me to want Android. Maybe If the developers from this site get a working android port I will be HAPPY.
Other than that, this phone fulfills my needs.

I've not rebooted my HD2 for at least 3 weeks, and I think that was due to a tweak in BsBtweaks needing a restart to take effect.
I can put you in touch with several people who have had iphones that lock up and become unresponsive more than once a week if you want?
Complexity will always have instability.
HD2 is much more sexy than ANY other phone on the market around imo..
Besides, they are working on Android for the HD2.. And making some good progress lately..
Nothing better than a phone that could eventually even dualboot .
If you want games and apps to play about with/be cool with around your mates, get an iPhone or another type that most 'mainstream' users have.
It seems that android has come to an end for the HD2. There hasn't been major updates in a long time. Not just NAND but lets say the Light sensor hasn't been fixed in any clean froyo builds or random freezes and crashes. In regards to NAND, there hasn't been much activity going on with porting it. I wonder y? could it be that the project just got too old and boring or is it because windows phone 7? in any case it seems to me that this project is slowly coming to an end and only a few chefs are starting to realize it (shubCRAFT, Hyperdroid) are no longer supported (which is due to personal reasons too) i understand that. Im not angry or venting just confirming it. should I sell my [email protected] to get a My touch 4g or a g2? at this point it seems better than waiting for android to work.
I am not trying to anger anyone I just wanted to hear some thoughts.
Im using MDJ FroYo Sense Clean and its stable, fast and the battery drainage is really ok, so i dont think "android for hd2 comes to an end", but "android for hd2 becomes nearly perfect". Sure WP7 is here, so xda-chefs are working for first ROM for HD2 , but i don't think Android-Development is stopped completely
I don't think it will be at an end for years.... but they have done most of the major stuff they can do. I dont think nand is really working as well as they hoped it would... it sounds like it may be slower than sd card. They're still working on it, though. Bugs will continue to be worked on, too.
What more did you expect out of a port? They've done an amazing job. You can't expect it to be as stable and smooth as a native android phone. I always said if you want to use android full-time, you're better off with a native android phone. But what other phone can run winmo and android this well. And its the best winmo phone out there. And there's a possibility of running meego and wp7. Its gonna be my phone of choice for a long time still.

Very well said. I will never sell this phone for the mere fact that I can dual boot and the GPS on this thing is amazing. Way better than my Samsung Captivate.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Android on the hd2 is already better than I ever expected it to be, so I'm happy. I use winmo when I need the phone to be stable and for certain apps... then when I'm playing around or want to use certain android apps I can boot into android in less than a minute. What more could I want. If they were still developing winmo phones, I'd still buy winmo phones... most new winmo phones eventually run android good enough to use any apps you want to use.
People who say the hd2 runs android better than native android phones always compare it to android phones still running stock roms without tweaks. If you tweak and customize a native android phone, it runs way better than a hd2 ever will... that's why if I wanted android full-time I'd get a native phone.
But I love the many options and possibilities the hd2 offers... and I still like winmo and the way I can customize it. Android runs good enough for me on it.... and you can't run winmo on an android phone.

I fully agree with you. But I'm tired from winmo. I want to feel something new. Something undiscovered for me. Its something like a new car. But I've already bought hd2 and i don't want another phone. I just want android without Linux. I just want a fully based android for my phone.. so, can i get it anywhere?
Sorry for my bad English.

I think it'll be a big mistake to sell your HD2. It is probably be the best and most versatile Windows Mobile device ever built. One device able to run Windows Mobile, Android and very soon Windows Phone 7.
I'm currently been using Mdeejay Evosense 2.3 with hastarin kernel 7.8 and the latest pop wrapper currently being tested. For me android is 99% perfect and I've not had to boot back to Windows mobile in more than 2 weeks. The thing with these android builds is that you've got to try several till you find one which works for you. I tried 7 different builds before finding my current one.
However, we are all different and so you have to decide for yourself. If you feel you can't handle the various issues that are still being worked the, the maybe you should sell your HD2 and get a native android. I personally won't do that.

oh come on guys. Gingerbread is right around the corner. That will boost interest again. I started with the G1. Interest in it didn't die until i got the HD2. The main reason i got the HD2 is because the G1 couldn't run 2.2 very well. That has been a few months now and I'm sure they got things running well on it. Seriously and they said that the G1 wouldn't run 2.1!! The difference between G1 and HD2 TONS! I honestly dont think there will be anything that android releases that the HD2 wont be able to run.
Granted they have slowed down big time with the releases of android OS but thats a good thing. They were launching stuff so quickly it didn't give the devs time to make stuff rock solid.
I read today that the nexus 1 dev phones will have 2.3 (gingerbread) pushed to them next week! I'm ready bring it on! I know the devs here will tackle it asap.
I fail to see how it is anywhere near the end of the road. Android as it stands now is more stable for me than WinMo ever was. The only slight detractor is battery life which is still not bad at all, I get 20-22 hours straight out of my battery which is only slightly worse than I get with WinMo (about 26 hours).
The reason there's little in the way of amazing, groundbreaking advances in Android is because there's very little left to do. The latest kernels are fantastic, battery life has improved greatly, reliability is amazing now, there's very little left that doesn't work or breaks. I cannot remember the last time I've had a force close, screen of death or anything else terminal, and I no longer boot into windows at all.
Most of the chefs and devs here have things called "personal lives" that require time, and while there's little left to do they are spending time concentrating on themselves. Give it a few weeks/months until gingerbread comes along and the scene will pick up again. In the mean time feel free to get hold of the tools yourself and see what you can do?
If your Android doesn't work properly when I personally have installed Android on about 8 Hd2's for myself and my friends and they never have any complaints then you should investigate why, not give up and sell your phone. That's half the challenge!
Hi I am a Newbie to all this Smartphone stuff, but recently I was offered to buy a HTC HD2. The Phone Looks like a Beast!! But I hate the Windows Mobile Operating 6.5! I was thinking of buying.... I just recently discovered that you can port Android 2.2 to the HTC HD2, but I had a couple of questions which will help me a lot! I will only Buy the HTC HD2 if I can get Android 2.2 on to the Phone & use it as my Primary OS....
~ My Question is this ~
Is it possible to port Android 2.2 FULLY onto the HTC HD2?? I mean like does everything work? (ie. Wifi, Internet browsing, Apps, Phone, Themes, Movies) All that good stuff and can it be my Primary OS on the HTC Hd2? and I'm with ROGERS, i live in Canada, will the phone work properly with the different radio band?
If someone could help me and answer my question it would be the world to me!
Thanks
ok let me get this straight
if you want to buy a phone and you haven't bought it yet
JUST DONT BUY HTC HD2 IT SUCKS
in fact you can get ondroid on it
but you will face so many problems that make you regret it
like battery drain
not loud speakers
connection problem
lack of space
and ....
if you want to know my opinion
dont by htc it olso sucks
i would go with samsung if i were you
the battery and cpu and screen is much better
or apple
if you buy htc you gonna hate it
that's for sure
Well, A real Android Phone cost about $400, This person is selling the HTC Hd2 to me for $100 so, I like to send less money
well in that case ... i think you'd better get it
it's not all that bad
and over all all those problems that i mentioned are wrapped
so if you want to know the android is fully functional
i'm gonna say yes it is except one ore two problems that are not very important
so if 100 dollars the get congradulations
but it cant be like an android phone
if you want to know more lets talk later becouse i'm gonna sleep
send me a private message and i will answer all your quastions

oh then from your build what doesn't work on your HTC HD2 right now?
ok fine i confess that because of efforts and hard works of people like johncmolyneux we can work with android
and i totally respect them
but ignoring the fact that the android on hd2 is not as good as other phones is unreasonable
and finally the choice is yours if you can really get hd2 on 100 dollars
then leave the rest of the work to us we make the phone like an android phone
maybe a little better in some diraction
Well, I would have to say android 2.2 is fully working on my hd2. I am completely happy and it works better than other android phones imo. Now the issues that other people are having seem to be from not following the directions and not using the proper radio/rom. Combination. At any rate android installation litteraly takes like five minutes. The only issue I have is the battery consumption that is much worse than on energy rom with winmo. However I also mist include that I. Doing alot more on the phone school as facebook always updating sms popup led notifications, gps and what not so I can't fully say the battery crnsumption is horrible also u can always just carry a car charger which is what I do...
Hope that helps

Dude, you have serious problems!!
Android is almost as functional as WM, thats for sure, no battery drain, i have no force closes.
I'll risk to say that HD2 is the most "supported" smartphone of all times, hundreds of builds/rom's/themes.

Everything works perfectly on my current build. There is nothing at all I've had problems with. I'm using a Nexus One NAND build.

@m2shakiba : seriously? you recomend a samsung as a phone brand that has good battery consumption under android, especially the s-amoled ones, I mean, SERIOUSLY?? Have you ever had a HTC HD2 and had any problems with it and left you bitter? I can honestly say that the HD2 community is probably one of the biggest there are of it's kind and that probably means happy owners and the HD2 is ,if not the most, one of the most versatille devices out there, anyway there's a million more arguments I could pose but I won't bother.
@heronization: don't even think twice about buying the device as long as it works properly, check if the touchscreen and buttons respond the way they should ( i mean not pressing in the middle of the screen and it activates the far end of it), once you get the hang of it you won't even consider buying a native android phone. I don't and it's been a year since I bought it and have been using android since the first stable builds came out a few months ago. Thinking about changing my current EU HD2 to a US cause it has 1gb ram instead of 512mb that I have now and that's just about my only problem.
HTC HD2
Android 2.2 is working perfectly on my HD2. I haven't found any problems while using my phone. All the problems mentioned by m2shakiba are already fixed and included in the newest builds. Just follow the instructions and read the contents of the build properly. Most Android 2.2 builds have matured in this forum and more Android 2.3 builds are currently being made. Everything is working on Android 2.2 and battery drains are excellent. 3mA-5mA on standby without wi-fi(which allows your phone to last for more than 2 whole days). If you use your phone regularly, texting here and then, wifi for around 2 hours, it can take you through the whole day. I have a samsung galaxy phone and the battery drain is horrible. I think the devs have made a good job in porting the Android 2.2 to our phone ^^.

Havent read that much bull**** a long time...
The actual NAND builds (using mdeejays DHD build v2) give 100% functionality, like every other Android phone.
Tell me one, ONE thing that does not work as it used to.
But wait, do u own an hd2?
I dont think so!
best buy phone on world now is HD2
For that price I would definitely say get it. However, I will say that if you are not too tech savy, then you may want to invest in an actual Android phone. I say this for a few reasons.
1. Have you ever jailbroken/rooted/or flashed a phone? If not it can be tricky. Its not hard by any means but you can brick it and you'll have a $100 paperweight.
2. Once you load an OS are you willing to take the time to figure out why something is not working instead of giving up? I can say that the build I have on my HD2 is almost flawless but that is not always the case.
3. Is it the international verion or the T-MoUS version? If it is the T-MoUS version, then go for it. Reason being, is that running HSPL and then Mgldr take up space needed for Android to run and install apps. The US version was blessed which 1gb of RAM so its perfect, but the International version is only 512 MB which is causing some people to have issues. If you are tech savy tho, it won't matter cause there is a fix for that.
Anyway, those are just a few things to point out. I've had my HD2 for almost a year now and the only reason I have it still is the ability to have Android on my phone. I've even decided against upgrading for another year or two for that reason.

Yep...like ANY OTHER sections... Milestone, Hero, Magic, Dream, N1, Desire...etc. They're full of "problems" too. 95% of them is because of the dumminess of many users. 4% is because of hardware defects, 1% is because of isolated bugs which are solved in very short time. What about HD2? Well it almost runs GINGERBREAD perfectly...while some devices are still with 2.1 Eclair...
I replaced my Milestone with an HD2. Am I satisfied? SURE!
So please stop trolling and saying that sheeps are black just because you met one black sheep...
i bought a hd2 last week, since the i have tried like 20 different roms both wp7 and android ones, and i m loving it,, but i m curious to know that how come this is the only phone that can do this, i mean wat is in it ( or not there in it) , that makes it support different operating systems.
One word DFT!
OK so I guess it is actually three Dark Forces Team. A group of devs including Cotula that dove head first into the phone once we found out that Micro$oft was going to leave us high and dry when it cam to WP7. They and all of the other devs that flocked to this phone, mostly because of its top of the line specs at the time and even still for the most part, are why this phone is still a beast!
Really all our phone doesn't have is a front facing camera, better screen resolution, and higher ram. And truthful the last one is really not that far behind what is out in the "top of the line "phones coming out today, and none are true deal breakers
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA
yes i totally agree, its still not far behind in terms of performance, i tried out Shadowgun game in galaxy s2 and was amazed by its graphics, but then i tested it on hd2 ics 4.04 , i was surprised to see that it gave me almost same graphics as s2 , and ran really smoothly..
And wen i thought of reason exactly same reason struk my mind that, this was an awesum device getting ruined on wp6.5, so i order to have wp7 in it all this development happened..
But wat i want to know is if some developers gives his everything to some other phone , like they gave everything to hd2 , can some other device of today replace hd2 in terms of multiple operating systems support....
I really don't have high hopes for any other phones following the course of the HD2. People now are really one way or another (either love android or WP7 not both and most "hate" the opposing OS). Heck if I knew how to do it I would love to see IOS and the new BB10 on here just to prove once again HD2 is king!
The reason I think we got all of this was the fact that when they found out wp6.5 was dieing they wanted to get something that would be supported for longer. Android was in the beginning of its boom and WP7 was still in development at MS so some devs got together and got Android to boot on SD using HARET. People fell in love and DFT started working on nand. During this time devs started using the base we were given to get Linux and Windows running from SD. DFT got nand working with magldr then WP7 dropped and I have a feeling Cotula really likes it (since that seems to be the bulk of his posts lately) so he reformatted magldr to be able to run both. Then meego came out and development sounded promising but never got the attention from the right devs plus it was dropped by nokia (I think) so I don't see that going anywhere.
I think the main reason we have all this is that the SPL was torn down and fully understood meaning that they were able to turn the phone into a blank slate with the ability to control every aspect of it with the right code (magldr) . Leaving it possible to do whatever they wanted. Plus the open source nature of android helps!

@tobiascrystal
thanks for the mini-history of our HD2, i too was wondering like amitoj about the HD2. I guess coz it was the last line in the wp6.5 series with still so much power in it that it became what it was now.
I was also searching the net for a similar phone that can run magldr & other bootloader but found none or a few is in development. I was thinking since a lot of other phones out there have similar spec as the HD2 can't they do the same for those?
I would say that anything is possible with enough time, brain power, and motivation (and maybe some cash) . All these newer smartphones are nothing but mini computers and could, in theory, all do the same thing as the HD2 but like I said you have to have someone(s) that is really devoted. If I remember correctly it took over a year of coding for DFT to get magldr ready for the masses. I am not sure what the next super phone is going to be that catches that kind of developer attention. I tell you one thing though, the day I hear about it I don't care if I have to pay full retail I will be next in line to buy it!

Indeed, I fear the time when my HD2 will die and I will be forced to use new phone with stock roms Hopefully till this time, some phone will get as much attentions as our beloved leo.
@delwing
i guess, other phones do accept custom roms , but not of a totally different operating system.
We are lucky that this device got so much attention from developers , but really after using it , i dont think ill ever like any phone more than this. and i guess hd2 is gonna be one of a kind for years to come. But i really wish that there comes a phone which is as beautiful as HD2 and which can match high end specs of today's phones. At present its specs are more than wat are required , but in an year or two we will need some phone like this with better specs.
I am in the Philippines and am currently using htc One X. But I have been searching for a brand new HTC HD2 for a long time now and I can't seem to find one I miss this beast of a phone. This is the first time I have used android by the way. Call me old school, but I like WM6.5 better. Even better than WP7.5. Personally I think the possibilities in customization on HD2 is endless. hehehe..of course hardware wise it got left beind but still...anyone know where I can get a bnew one?
Thailand still has them available including new boxed TMOUS models ...
WM6.5 is the king of customization & good settings, only software development made Android popular, the actual OS is ****e ...
there will never be an HD2 again, the market is so diluted with *cough-****e-* cough that developers and would be developers are spread out to thin.
The HD2 was king simply because it was THE phone to have, there was very little similar to it, and the power within its S1 SoC was way ahead of anything else, thus we ended up with a situation where the HD2 was the place to be. The fact that soft SPL then hard SPL was done quickly followed by Android booting from within WM cemented its fame, the final rise to power was MAGLDR, allowing pretty much anything to be done. Live it up guys, as sure as bears crap in the woods, this will never happen to a device again so long as they keep pumping out so much crap in to the markets and doing everything to lock them down.
very simple answer to the question.
it can only run
wm 6.5, wp7, all the versions of Android, meego and Ubuntu

ebay HK still have some new ones & they ship worldwide, give it a search
G.O.A.T.
I have been waiting to see the HD2 in the Guinness Book of World Records for the number of OS's on one Phone.
I am just as pleased or more so today as I was when I woke up early to be at T-Mobile when the doors opened to be the first to have one. I work for AT&T and I see lots of new phone come and go. As best I can tell most people love their OS. Unlike most of us HD2 owners here who love our phone.
I would also like to thank the developers for their hard word and staying ahead of the pack. For Example, I was running a stable version of ICS months before the newer phones received their updates or pre-installs appeared in the work place.
I truly believe that the HTC-HD2 will be looked at as one of the G.O.A.T.. (Greatest of all Time)
