i tried to root the device but no chance any way for foryo 2.2
there are some really good threads in here on how to correctly root the HTC Glacier for both pre/ post OTA updated MT4Gs. Should work without any problems.
gfree method works, i have done it. Download super manager to push the gfree files into data local, then use terminal to input the commands. just follow the directions in the sticky and you will be fine.
Froyo, not foryo. Here's what I used.

This is the method I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858021. It uses Visionary, so if gfree has been giving you problems, this is a good alternative.
ALL the methods use VISIONary. They pretty much follow this pattern:
1. Temproot using VISIONary
2. Run a script
3. Permroot using VISIONary
I would say gfree is better than the root.sh one becuase gfree can do much more, like unlock your SIM and carrierID. The only difference between the two is which script you run (gfree or root.sh).
Also, using root.sh puts the engineering bootloader on your device. If you use gfree, you have to manually flash the engineering bootloader. What that is and what it does is left for another discussion.

This depends on which root.sh script method you use. Typically most of them do not install the engineering screen.
I've used the root.sh method, ./gfree method and Cyanogen(mod)'s. If you are new to android try TheUnlockr's root.sh method. If you are familiar with ADB use the ./gfree. you can always add the ./gfree later once you are ready to use ADB.
I used the gfree method & been wrkin fine with me flashed iced glacier,cm7,back to iced glacier & now royalginger...1st mytouch 4g I got was wrkin fine until I flashed a ginger rom then bck to froyo & forgot to change recoveries & got that whole cnt mount cache & data errors but it was user error, other than that 3 mytouch 4gs using gfree & all wrks well...
I just finally rooted a few days ago, and did it using the Unlockr method, which is via Visionary. Worked great for me, and I'm not horribly tech savvy (compared to some at least lol).
I rooted my phone using the method at theunlockr.com but I read somewhere not to root your phone that way because it does not get you true s-off? My phone says s-off and I have been flashing roms without problems so far, just curious after reading that. Anyone know if this is true?
Here is what I did:
open visionary, check "Set system r/w after root" on
run temproot
open terminal and entered:
su - got super user
cd /sdcard/root
sh root.sh
That's what I used for rooting my first MT4G and didn't have any issues whatsoever so I don't see what's wrong with it. I used gfree second time and if I remember correctly your method was easier but gfree sim unlocks your phone to be used with different carriers.

Something like that. Using root.sh will put the engineering bootloader on your device and basically "forges" messages to HBoot when it asks the radio whether you have S-ON or S-OFF. You'll be able to flash ROMs and stuff.
The gfree script will actually give you radio S-OFF, as well as unlock your SIM and unlock your Carrier ID (SuperCID). You can still use it even if you already did the root.sh script, just follow the directions in that thread and ignore anything to do with VISIONary.
I purchased a myTouch 3G online last week. I sadly updated to the Android 2.2.1 and it makes my phone VERY SLOW and VERY SLUGGISH! I want my phone back to the original cupcake 1.5 I believe it is or after doing further research I want it to be the Donut 1.6 that I have heard so many good things about it.
Unless someone suggests something else. I just want a phone that ISN'T SLUGGISH and that will run smoothly and where I will be able to download and install the Android Apps & Games.
Here are my phone specs according to boot up:
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship S-On G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (Sapp30000)
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.28.25

I have tried to go back to factory settings and that doesn't work. I tried to doing the sappimg.nbh and get the "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot device?" message. Is there ANYTHING I can do that is simple and uncomplicated?
I am not phone smart (better with computers) so PLEASE be patient and be nice to me. I have never owned a smartphone until now so I don't know all the technical terms for it so please make instructions idiot proof.
PLEASE HELP! I have researched and the only thing I have found is to do what everyone is calling the "Gold Card Method" which I am really trying to avoid if at all possible. Thanks so much!
Are you rooted ?
I don't know if it is rooted. I haven't done anything to it since I received it last week other then update it to Android 2.2.1 according to the phone.
Follow my guide, found in my signature, to root, get custom recovery and eng spl.
Then post here once you are done.
If the androot application does not work for your device, then use this tool to get root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Sorry I don't mean to sound like a complete and total idiot but which guide would I be following in your signature? How will I know if the androot application works?
Sorry for all the DUMB questions and I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to help me out and explain everything to me.
No problem.
On each of my posts, you see a line on the bottom. Below that line you see 4 links, E.g
APK(s) Installer tool
HTC Magic: 4 easy steps ROOT guide
......
All the tekst below the line is called a signature and is displayed on every post a member makes.
Only ONE of them is a link to a guide, guess which one :0)
In that guide, you will use an application called "Androot". Once you run it, it will try to root the phone for you. If it does not succeed, then try the superOneClick tool i referenced to earlier and continue the guide skipping the root section.
In your HTC Magic: 4 easy steps ROOT guide it states that it won't work for the new 2.2.1 version which is what I have. Am I in trouble if I try this and it "bricks" (whatever that means!) my phone???
Dude... if you are unsure, then do the research before you continue.
That guide was made like 1 year ago... i can't remember all the details.
That's why i made the ref for superOneClick.
Use the superOneClick tool and continue with the app skipping the root section.
AGAIN, if you are unsure, then don't do anything and research before you continue.

I looked all over the place and cant find anything like my situation!
Ok so i called t-mobile and they are sending me a replacement because of the bad screen on my phone. All in all i used a method from CM7 to root my phone. I dont remember what method it was. I remember that i had to downgrade my phone and then root from there.
I am trying to get S-on because i already flashed the PD15IMG and it didnt give me the s-on. it just keeps saying s-off. do i have to have s-on for the excahnge? i already have the phone with the stock rom without root.
PLEASE HELP! thanks!!!!
If you used gfree you can run the script again restore S-ON if you still have the part7 backup files. If you don't have them, there is a thread around here somewhere that has the files with instructions to hex-edit your IMEI.
If you used root.sh, then you simply need to run unroot.sh
Edit: I came to the conclusion that if you looked and couldn't manage to find the gfree thread stickied at the top of the dev section that you would never find the thread about hex-editing part7backup. So here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195630

I dont think i used gfree because i used adb and my computer to root it
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide
THIS IS WHAT I USED!
:sigh: The last set of steps had you use ADB to push gfree to the phone. So yes, you used gfree.
Go to the dev section and look at the gfree guide stickied there. It has steps to unroot and 5000 people asking questions when they run into snags during the process. Read until your eyes bleed, then read some more.

Please help
okay i have tried everything i could think of and i still cant figure this out!
the problem is that i flashed the PD15IMG via hboot and it put everything back to stock. now the problem is that S is still off and i need s-on to send it back for a replacement. i have tried re rooting the phone from the guide i posted above but i have had no success CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP!?
i have the stock rom that is GB but without root or anything i cant even get temp root! please help me!
If your on gingerbread (2.3) you'll have to downgrade back to 2.2.1 before you can run gfree to turn
S-on.
After turning S-on reflash a stock pd15.img and you'll be back to stock.
For more info read the rooting guide in the sticky section. I think its the one by grankin01. Its the one that says check this out even if your rooted.

Hi Gents,
Before I get flamed, have been on XDA for with a HD2 for a while so bear with me - I have purchased a Mytouch and it has come with S-off but no root have tried pushing CWR via adb but comes back not reading the img - also came with 2.3.4 update S-off is ther a way I can flash a rom thats rooted to get Su permission ??
I am on H-boot .89
Any help would be great.
Thx
Stickies and INDEX are a great help.
Some basic reading is expected.
Thank Jack_R1 used to say the same myself I think re downgrade and start from scratch ... eeek and this one has a bad chipset -
No need to re-downgrade. If you got S-OFF - you're good.
Now flash engineering bootloader (0.85) by PD15IMG.ZIP way (search the guides for it) and use fastboot for flashing recovery.
This should guide you enough.
Thanks mate appreciate the help
Edit: have done your suggested but i am getting a Cid error ??
Means you probably don't have MT4G, but HTC Panache.
Look up a thread named "Videotron/Mobilicity Panache thread". There are instructions for making goldcard.
Actually, what it could also mean is that your phone was S-OFF-ed by XTC Clip and not by gfree, which means you're still not SuperCID. You might want to downgrade to Froyo and run gfree for SuperCID only.
