They give up their free time to make our life better, its just not fair to have a go at them. Imagine, without them we would have a boring phone with limited functionalities, slow wifi, no root apps, limited storage for apps, slow stock interface, limited apps from android market...you get the idea.

I really thank you all for developing the various things to improve my x8 user experience, when my phone arrived with the stock rom, it was just crap. but nowadays the custom roms are just wonderful, not perfect yet they are getting better and I can see progress.
I believe that users in general should not complain on progress or whatsoever, I believe to be able to comment on such things you should have tried yourself how difficult developing can be - and that for free, when you are an expert developer working and having a busy life.

[OFF] - A proposal for the dev's and cookers!

Hello friends! I created this thread to make a proposal to the dev's and cookers ...
Well, what I mean is that we have bright developers of ROMs for our XPERIA X8
I think most of them work on your own ROMs, without the assistance of anyone (I'm NOT saying they are not able to cook a ROM)
What I mean is that I think that all the dev's of X8 ROM's (as racht, doixanh or AnDyX), cookers (like ME!) and designers (like AChep) come together and form a team, so to create an all-new custom ROM with the help and idea of all users of the Xperia X8!
The forum is for everyone to share their ideas and how they can help in the development of custom ROMs for our devices, and I believe that together we can create a perfect ROM!
That's the idea and proposed to you all, developers of ROMs of our Xperia X8 ...
I think it's a good idea!
Who agrees with me?
Remember: In unity is strength!
It sounds good in theory but I doubt they will work on a single rom. As far as I see it, racht likes gingerbread and has abandoned his floyo rom, but dx likes froyo so he started adding things from gingerbread for users to have a better experience while using it. One thing that I know for certain, if someone manages to find a fix for a problem in any rom I am sure they will share their work with others, because that's why they use these forums.
As for jerpelea he seems to focus more on the X10, which will get official gingerbread update, instead on X8 and that saddens me abit, but is his time to spend and he can do whatever he wants with it... AnDyX has done 2 modules but no rom so maybe ask him to make a rom from scratch by using knowledge gained from other devs.
I do not mean to them that I quoted ...
I refer to ALL's dev ...
I think if all agree to try to do this, we must settle on which Android will be based (Whether it will be 2.3 or 2.2, whatever), but I think that discussion is for later ...
My proposal is that all ideas come together and share their knowledge so that all interested members to create a fully-working near perfect ROM
This is my proposal and idea ...If anyone can understand me...

I do not say that this not a good idea... but it's very-very difficult to work with someone else over the same project. I have never work over roms for phone but from my knowledge as a programmer i can say that it may be better working like now...
I was working with a programmer over a firefox addon (like the way you say) but it was very difficult. I was forced to inform him about everything i did, so to let him know what he should do. I started keeping notes and made a program lol...
You must be very consistent too do this...
I wish our devs have the time to set up such a project...
great idea, but... We only need to know if our devs agree with that..

I feel the same way. It is very difficult to work with multiple people at the same project, each in a different place. Everyone should have from time to time the exact same code and this would necessarily mean working in shifts and not in a team.
What I see much more easy to do is try to understand what features should have the "perfect rom", such as it is doing doixanh for froyobread, posting polls and seeing what the majority prefers.
We could start with topics such as: 1) froyo base vs. gingerbread base, 2) favorite launcher, 3) basic applications preinstalled .. etc etc. ..
Then we might ask a developer to take charge of the project and prepare the ROM. As an incentive we can provide some donation, if at the end of the project will be many users of the forum to participate, there won't be too hard to put together a little cash I think.
What do you think? Could it be possible?
While I won't downplay this idea, because it does have its merit, this would be VERY hard to achieve. Devs would need to communicate everything they did to eachother, which could prove difficult. However what we COULD do is designate assignments for a specific dev. For example:
Doixanh - Porting Gingerbread features to Froyo and performance
Jerpelea & Blagus - Cracking the bootloader
And so on, so forth. Publish all the work in Google Code or Github to make easily accessible for the whole community.
This to me seems the only really viable way to go...
well I hope so !! really they are the betters and could pass something nice
So typical.
All i see are random members saying that it can't be done or that it is so hard to achieve.
Why can't you wait for devs to answer for themselves?
...I agree with all that this is difficult but... I think that the are already work in a team... xda devs' team... they already help each other enought.
First of all, this thread belongs to Genreal section.
Now on-topic:
I don't see any usefullness from this idea.
1st Devs are helping each other anyway for sure
2nd.. 2nddd?!?!?! :O
Oh, yeah... there's no second.
Point is:
Example: doixanh is stuck at something when making froyobread.. he will ask someone for tip...
racht hackdroid has camera disabled... kuya will fix it (altough he's a cooker, not dev I suppose)
You got it??
Apps preistalled, default launcher... install your favorites by yourself you lazyasses
if OP want it like cyanogenmod,
than it is freexperia project.
I don't see it working.
btw, yes, I'm not a "dev", I like and always be a newbie
Theres already a project like that, it is FreeXperia project, i suppose everyone already know that.
The point is, we should just continue that project, if someone already have a well programming knowledge, then they should just help that project, creating the libs for X8 to be used for 2.3+ Android version later.
that's good idea, newbie like me very happy to hear it
That's a good idea, but i think that we'll have more progress about a Cyanogen 7 rom soon enough.

Say thanks to your favourite developer(s)!

Okay, so you are told to press the thanks button when you want to say thanks. But sometimes you want to say more. So here, you can say thanks to a (bunch of) developer(s) of your choice
So first of all, I'm saying thanks to DooMLoRD, for always keeping me on my toes when it comes to kernel development. He is more experienced than I and if I need some help he will help me
Second, to the devs that have the R800x, because I truly do feel sorry for you guys. But with the limited resources Verizon provided you with, you have done a great job.
I also want to say thanks especially to paxChristos, who just became a team mate of mine. His determination to get something done is unbelievable, and if you do something well, he will thank you well for it.
Lastly, I want to say thanks to Sony, for the Official ICS beta, I think we are your beta testers now And to KalleD especially, for providing a link between unofficial and official developers, a strong one. Its a shame you can't give Verizon a good kick up the arse though.

all for the same reason really if it wasn't for all these devs putting their time and efforts in for us (and for free!) we would be stuck on sony's firmware (Not saying its crap or anything - i just like to have more choice)
Last of all Thanks to Sony (again) for all their support towards the open source community!!
Thanks ti jjdoctor and acocalypso.

When I bought my Galaxy S, it was just the time when the phone's development picked up heavily. I started with the OCLF of Ryanza which made it faster than my brain could handle at first.
From there on I started to see what was happening around me. I saw the incredible Voodoo Project made by supercurio, which turned a good phone into a work of art, with its speed, color display and sound capabilities increased by several orders of magnitude.
And then I started following Darky. He was at first yet another theme/mod developer of the many, but then he started building something big. Passionate words, an insane update rhythm and a really cool look won me for his cause, and eventually for his tester team. His ROM grew so popular that he eventually has to create his own forum in order to manage the huge community built around it. I learned a lot of things as a tester, but what was most important is appreciating how Darky actually took a bunch of mostly clueless enthusiasts and turned them (us) into people able and willing to contribute in a fairly big measure, not because he taught us stuff directly, but because we all had to push ourselves to new reaches every day, in many aspects.
With that experience in mind, and now that a year is almost past, I can say that such knowledge, plus what I've learned, has made me not quite skilled as to be a developer (sorry, elspanish, I don't belong in that list ) but really understanding and appreciative of what developing, and particularly troubleshooting, entails beyond code.
The developers and teams that have worked seriously on our phone have been already mentioned, so I won't repeat names. All I want to say is, if you're young and eager and you're thinking about starting to develop stuff for a phone, be it the Xperia Play or any other, by all means give it a try: maybe you won't make the ultimate content for your platform (although you should aim there!), maybe you won't earn more than a couple thanks in your bar (which is not your objective anyways), but you will learn a great lot, and especially you will learn things after typing the last line of code, which are the really useful and enriching ones.
Lots of love, good luck, and start your engines.
XPlay-Swype
Thanking the following devs, although I just KNOW I'll leave someone off my list accidently!
Supervenom - for bringing the AOKICS Beta 2.3b ROM to the table. (although that ICS Beta part was a bit misleading, since it's really CM)
KeiranFTW - especially for the 4/18/2012 ICS Kernel!
DooMLoRD - for ALL your kernels !!
paxChristos - For taking up where Chevyowner left off with the CDMA for CM9 dev
Chevyowner - Miss you, man
Leraeniesh - For GBTweaked of course and for trying with ICSTweaked.
FXP - you know why
Krabappel2548 - No wonder I forgot you at first; that's one heck of a name to remember. But not as bad as "Leraeneish"
Sony - but I wish you would kick some CDMA lovin' our way !!
Anyone else who makes an effort to help out the R800x group - that crimson-follicled bairn of questionable parentage.

Honestly, I would be doing a great injustice to all who develop and aspire to become developers by listing individuals' names here. After all, in the spirit of open source, I'd have to start with Google, cyanogen, and to any other developer who's ever started a project that we've stolen borrowed from.
Instead of giving individual thanks, I'll tell a little story. My first android phone was an LG Ally. Not much in the way of a development scene there, but we had some incredibly awesome developers, Trident being the first and foremost, in my mind. Then I moved on to the Samsung Fascinate. If anyone has looked over in their section of XDA, development is still going strong. I still have my Fascinate, but I switched to the Play on an upgrade simply for its gamepad. (I don't need to tell you why, do I?) It was this phone that made me stop and really appreciate the development that goes on with a phone, especially one that was pretty much designed to prevent such things from happening. In fact, after seeing the dedication that this phone has gotten from all of the developers here, it's inspired me to start learning more about development and the Android's system, itself. I would be much more learned by now if I wasn't so lazy about reading up on the stuff. (However, if one of you developers is willing to take me on as an apprentice, hit me up!)
So not only do I thank the developers for this phone, but developers for every phone available. We can't forget the community, though. Despite it's few exceptions, this particular phone's community is very tight-knit and helpful, even when it comes to keeping the lulz coming.

My opinion

Hello everyone!
My name is Bart, and I would like to share my opinion about the development of ICS/JB and GB for our lovely but aging X8
As you know, ICS and JB need a lot of juice to run smooth and good, and our X8 is not designed to do such things , so I would like to share my opinion not to concentrate on making ICS/JB for our X8, but make better Froyo and GingerBread as those are good for it, yet GB needs a bit too .
I would like to ask you developers to concentrate more on Froyo and GingerBread as those ROM's are what our X8 is waiting for, get the best for it.
This is just my opinion, don't know what other think about it.
Have fun!
Bart.
I think GB is very good for daily use. Its just perfect. Devs should concentrate on JB/ICS...
developers did everithing they can on gb it up to cyanogen mod to improve performnce on gb in cm7.3 if it will be for x8 :good:
The point of it is that its not worth developing ICS/JB for out X8, our phone is just too weak and too old for this
I think it's very disrespectful to hold a poll on such issues.
Without devs doing what they want to do (they have to be inspired or enjoy their work) you wouldn't even have Froyo or GB..
Polls like this can make devs disappear from XDA because it makes them feel undervalued.
Remember this:
1: XDA is a developers site.
2: You are lucky to be here.
3: XDA can decide at any time to make this a dev site only.
4: You are lucky to be here.
5: Devs work for free - Who are we to tell them what to do with their time and efforts.
6: You are lucky to be here.
I think I've made my point clear!
Reported as this kind of poll disgusts devs and most of us happy users!
You can't order them what to do... And yes you can't even suggest them...
I guess you aren't a developer so you don't have curiosity to develop something NEW... you just download their work... And then post such disgusting thread...:banghead:
I too own X8... But I would love if the developers continue experimenting with X8... in hope something out if the box
Sent bursting with anger...

The Arc/S Community

Its been fun on Arc/S Community on XDA
Cheers to all Arc/S users. The Sexiest Device we ever had. Sleek Design, Handy and Handful device for a Mid Range its pretty Cool.
Upon using the Phone for few months I am still love this other mid range phone out there.
Checking every 5 hrs on XDA and spending many time reading the Arc/s thread. I did developed a ROM though I discontinued it coz of some Annoying dev's out there who don't want any competition about the roms. I mean the site was intended for us to Share and Experiment with our handset. The only thing worked out is my Swap Thread and I really have good time with it and a company notice me then proposed to Buy my developing Swapler app and I give thanks all to XDA forum. I truly appreciate the Motive of setting this forum up and the Moderators on Arc/S are very nice to the users.
Before I leave the Arc/S community I will just make Roms for my Fellow Filipino mates with Chaos. I was still wanting to develop good roms here. I was planing to Tandem with Chaos to make such good roms for Arc/s. But I guess some troll will be Intimidating our Release and again Fire will spark over and over again so I got sick of these (Kid/Infant Attitude) as I guess Iridaki will Agree with me.
I will post my Creations on Android Section from this point. I will make with add Swapler and realease for free but its still on Approval.
Its been fun. I hope moderators will automatically delete Irrelevant topic of Troll here. Hammer theme with Chuck Norris :victory:

Even though I don't know much about your work or your support for the Arc / Arc S, it's sad to see guys leaving thanks to a bunch of morons that's envy on other guys quality work. Yes, your SWAP application is joy and quality (at the same time) that has saved me a lot of times when struggling to make ICS worth my time, and to avoid making this too fanboyish - I wish u all luck with whatever you now are going to do!

[discussion]Only few developers are active on X10/ Why most of the developers left

I was wondering that why there's only few developers left in x10 community now ???
what may be the reason ???
I am giving two main reasons why is it happening - Support it if you think the reason is correct or if you have some idea post it here
1. Not enough / good appreciation : means if some developers publishing ROM, there are less users who are giving nice word to developer, (I didn't see that much of good words for developers as other phone developer had received...) or people keep complaining about the bugs and some silly things (for example : my phone takes too long time to charge on this rom... Really ??????)
2. Not enough donation to developer(This is the big one) : I didn't see this much truely speaking, a very less developers have donators in x10 community, while i saw in galaxy s3 forums a long list of donators...
Any developers who wanna tell anything about this say it a loud we all are here to support you.....
Anybody want to share something regarding this, feel free....
erm probably due to all the new devices out there. The X10 has been around for a while now.

I know but still lots of users are using X10 and in comparison to users there's only few developers in our X10 community.
Right now its only 6 or 7 developers are active in this thread, and not all developers seems happy as i looked upon the forums.
I see some strong words from developers (No any offence to developer) which is not good for all of us users...
The reason is simple. X10 is an old device, lots of great developers had changed their phone.
Be real, man, no one will keep on developing if they don't own the phone anymore. Even if they want to keep developing. They cannot test without the device. It is not realistic.
There is nothing related to donation or appreciation.
Sent from my X10i using xda app-developers app
You're Right, That's totally weird, Maybe it's SE's conspiracy or something, because It's not like the device is almost 3 years old now or something & even if it was it's not like 3 years is a long time in tech & smartphones' world today, I'm telling you guys something really weird might be happening, We have to do something about it, Poor X10 really got neglected unfair
In today's world, the definition of best phone changes every few months then how can you expect a device that is almost 3 years old to have as much as development it had last year. There are exceptions like HD2 but even x10 development is not that bad.
We have cm10,cm9,and roms based on them like aokp, aocp, slimbean etc etc. What more you want??
Also i believe real developers do not work for donations, they work on device because they like to do it.

I know we have all the ROMs but What m telling is what is the reason that some developers stop working due to lack of appreciations/ bad behaviour from user
e.g. before some time achotjan was angry because of some guy posted ROM with his name and didnt even give credit to achotjan, and achotjan was out of development for X10 for a while
On the other hand for JB we only have three developers Scritch007, x10forevers and championswimmer. Thank God no body is giving bad review to Scritch007 but on the other hand I saw some people who are even telling x10forevers about not to post new thread and put all the things in one thread, that's really not fare, coz we all know its on developer what he/she wants to do on the other hand inspite of supporting people giving a bad review or idea about the development, one other user told in I guess Paranoid android JB thread that this rom is not stable than why publishing, some users talks about why u using rom that dont have much RAM to run some games and many more....
My point is that if we have few developers left, for sake of GOD, Please Support them, If you don't like ROM than don't use it atleast dont demolarise developers by posting something that is totally not useful.....
My straight point in the OP is : there's a reason why developer is leaving development is some users are totally rediculous to them.....
