[Q] Video out on 10.1v - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Will the 10.1v (Vodafone) version have a video out? I know it does not have any HDMI port. But wil the 30 pin, ipad like, connector support video out?.
No video out option would make me not buying this. I dont care about the thickness or microsd (NAS ftw). Just need to be able to show video's on full HD tv screen badly.

I don't know the answer, but the Galaxy S2 is using a USB MHL port, where you use an adapter in the usb to use as HDMI out. Likely that would be an option for the tabs as well.

Unless you talk about recorded stuff (which will not be in big quantities due to average and unupgradable memory) - good luck with transferring HD video to device.
Knowing how great is usb speed of device of this kind I want SD card slot or DLNA so I do not have to transfer them in the firs place.
BTW. once you start playing from NAS you can put picture on the big screen.
R u sure you want tablet with so many limitations and high price?

I will mostly use it for youtube, and dutch video websites.
But since there's no sign of any video adapters / converters I dont think I will buy it.
Instead i'm looking in to the Asus Transformer now. It's not as pretty, and I dont trust Asus as much as Samsung. But hey, it's cheaper

Can u give me the names of video dutch sites u were reffering to?
TV? Movies? Legal (I hope ).
Any of the stuff in English?

Ofcourse, I was reffering to dumpert . nl. Wich is a video site were all kinds of funny vids are dropped.
And gamekings . nl wich is the site of dutch game reviewers.
When I have friends over I want to have the opportunity to show them vids using my tv. The 10.1" screen is not big enough for 5 people

Are there any video sites in nl like HULU?

Not really. Tho most TV channels have there own site where you can watch tv shows you've missed.
But they dont have those fancy apps, and most of the time the quality is not even near perfect.
uitzendinggemist . nl for an example.

I have seen HDMI mentioned on Vodafone Australia site. Ill see if I can find it once I'm back on my PC.
Also, I had the 7" Galaxy Tab which has the same connector and did HDMI out via the dock. I'm almost certain the 10.1 will do the same.

Though I don't have one, SE already confirmed this.

SlingCatcher will give the Xperia X1 and just all mobile 6.1 device with video capture TV OUT capabilities. By having USB mass storage and a formatted FAT32 micro SD Card on Your Xperia X1 you should be good to go. The SlingCatcher has it's own USB port, it will send the capture video on your Xperia X1 to your living room giant screen HD TV.........!

Yes, it will work with the SlinCatcher providing all compontents parts are first installed on your Xperia X1, but you really don't have to worry about TV OUT on the Touch HD, because it comes with TV OUT.
Hi, sorry that I want to refresh this thread, but I still wonder how I could manage to view my movies on a tv, using my xperia although I pretty know that it hasn't a specific tv-out.. I looked now in the internet about the slingcatcher, but this would be nothing for me. First of all, its much to big, I wanna this to be "portable", to watch my movies in hotels, so I won't carry such a big box with me everywhere.. And second, its much to expensive, but I rather say in this point, this isn't important yet. What I imagine is just a program to use the usb-port as a tv-out, just that every information for the screen is showed on the tv. Would something like that be possible? Are there already such programs? I would pay 30 to 50$ for that, but 300$ for a big box to carry everywhere is just to much for me.. And I want just to carry a cable with me, that would be awesome^^ so, have you any ideas? Thanks a lot^^ greez, cad
as far as i know not 100% then xperia dont have usbHost (at least only 2 HTC made devices have that suppport)
and without usbHost a device cant use other usb devices at all
another option would be a bluetooth tvout thingy recall something about there being such devices sounds expensive though
never say no to the tv-out feature!
take a closer look to the x1`s usb connector and you will see, that the
backside is plated, too!
that could be 4 every thing! the hardware looks like htc raphael, excluding wvga screen.
but prozessor and so on is exactly the same. okay, a little bit more of ram. but that`s it.
no stereo speakers, no other cam, no hardware video encoder.
and don`t forget, a hardware fbas connector, for example, isn`t really required, there are some other possibillities to get video out over usb/network/wifi/BT2.0!
don`t forget vnc style tools. and vnc styled hardware dongles (usb/wifi for ex.) in future. nobody knows.

new demo video with touchwiz

funny how they photoshopped "Samsung" onto the front of the tab on all of their videos.
The most interesting piece is something about support of multi kind of video format and user does not need to convert!!!
Is this because of touchwiz has better video player? probably ...
some pretty heavy editing there. theres no way my tab runs that smooth.

I saw a TV ad last week for the galaxy tab 10.1, and it also had the "Samsung" logo plastered on the front bezel. I think they want to remind viewers that they are not looking at an iPad/generic tablet commercial.
Could be just a simple Samsung sticker.
It looks like it doesn't suck. And those mini apps sound like a good idea.

In stock honeycomb you dont have a separate video player app.
Have heard that the tabs that now ships with touchwiz has a dedicated videplayer app like the SGT 7" have. And that the support for divx/xvid is better.
lets us hope that with touchwiz and Samsung we can get a btter video experience like we are used to with the 7" Tab that worked so good playing video.
Does some one know if the Galaxy 10.1 shiped with touchwiz is divx certified like the 7" Is?
Edit: when they shows the hdmi adapter it looks that they also have connected it to the charger, if you have to have it connected to a charger to make it work it will suck.

Btw its friggin 2011 when will these companies start hiring editors whose native language is english when producing videos and documentation in english. "indivisual"???
anyone know what that other icon is in the bar at the bottom?
Screenshot IIRC
Lol @ "tap life"
Any word on whether not these features can be turned on or off?
Worried it may make things sluggish.
Do like the app while still in app functionality.
Just a reminder of how every once in a blue these skins do provide functionalities that should be default in android.

Id be more interested in knowing whether or not portrait mode lag is addressed.

Everybody says that. Moboplayer plays just about everything with no conversion already. Playing everything back smoothly at 24-30 fps is a different story.
I believe when the Galaxy S came out it was one of the first phones to play DivX videos stock and it did a good job of it too... better than Mobo player does now I believe... and that was before anything else was around. Could be the case again?

Galaxy tab 10.1

Hi, just bought the above but already disappointed with the price / performance ratio and think of returning it for a xoom as I can get double the disk space for £80 less money + I get a HDMI port.
I am finding it cannot proccess 1080p video on youtube which it is supposed to be able to do, it can do 720p but suprisingly using DICE it can do 720p high profile movies files (mkv) pretty well to, overlcocked to 1.6 (not getting hot) it can almost do 1080p high profile too.
I know the limitaions with Terga regards to video but I thought it was supposed to be able to 1080p youtube as this is main or base profile.
Any other advantages / disadvantages?
Are there any fully working 3.2 wfi UK ROMS?
Cheers.
what is the point to watch 1080 on 10.1 inches screen? I just don't understand. btw, xoom can't play 1080 YouTube videos either.

There are two reasons I can think of from the top of my head.
1. No need to convert 1080p videos if that is what someone already has.
2. Someone may want to use Xoom to playback a video to a 1080p TV.

Ah ok, I didn't realise this aspect. I would want my tablet to be able to output 1080p via it's video out connectivity.
The other point still stands, some people have 1080p videos as part of their video collection. As there's many other devices that can support full 1080p video. It would be really annoying for those people to have to convert these videos and store two copies (one at 720p and another at the 1080p). It's far easier if their tablet could play 1080p so you can throw anything at it and it'll just play it.
This thread is interesting.. I was about to get the Galaxy Tab 10.1 because of the much better screen and lighter body weight..
Should I keep the Xoom instead??
For 1080p don't buy anything now, wait for kal-el.
Managed to brick my Xoom last night whilst installing an boot image (dont ask for details I may cry) so I am taking it back for a refund today as PCworld have kindly agreed to do so. ( I may have ommitted a few details of the fault with the device).
One definite advantage to the samsung is odin, no silly bollocks with adb and 20 step rooting and unlocking, piece of piss on the tab, although have you seen the root on the eepad transformer?, yeah you only need to do it once but what a faff.
I have decided my only problem with the Gtab is (I can live without the HDMI onboard and even USB) is space, with a couple of movies, two audio books and only 4 games I was already running out of space with no means to upgrade, this is a apple-esque fail and I have to say they deserve all the **** they are getting in the courts for apple copying, it just is an ipad 2 running android.

Uh, "adb" (and "fastboot") is what Google (and everyone else) uses and works perfectly. Odin is some Windows-only hack, not sure how that's an "advantage" at all?
originally I was waiting for the Galaxy tab but the more I read on it, and seeing the price, I decided to go with the xoom for the following reasons in no particular order.
1. Xoom is pure android, I suppose this doesn't matter for all you flashers but it does to me.
2. Ports, and internal sd card slot, usb, hdmi. all of these are extra peripherals on the tab and I don't want to go searching for them when i need them, again might not be a problem for some but it is for me.
3 Price. for the same price as a 16gb tab you can get a 32 that includes all of the ports so more bang for my buck imo.
Advantages of the tab over the xoom..
1 weight, the tab weighs nothing the xoom can break your wrists off depending how you hold it. I've gotten used to manipulating my xoom now so it's no longer an issue but still an advantage the samsung has over xoom
2 screen res. samsung make beautiful screens, much more beautiful than the xoom. Not that the xoom is aweful it just looks like crap next to a galaxy, but then so does everything.
my opinion make of it what you will
Samsung screen is color rich but I think Motorola screen has natural colors.
Sometimes colors on Samsung feel artificial.

Cheers for the feedback. The 2 issues I have with the Xoom are weight and screen.
I think waiting for Kal-el is probably the best thing for me to do, although I am interested to see what the Gtab7.7 looks + speed wise when its released.
My Xoom isnt really that bad IMO, I've got the internal 32Gb + SD 32Gb storage, which certainly beats out the Gtab10.1 for sure.

[Q] Wanting Info before I buy

Im considering purchasing an Iconia Tab, spec wise it's a decent all around tablet. What I want is how well will this supplement the rest of my household and mobile devices, can I use this as a fill in for my bulky lap top when I decide to not carry it around, how well will this stream videos across the hdmi port to my tv rather than buying another box for my entertainment system. Just info in general is what I seek, and who better to ask than you guys.
Yes this device is awesome.. Streaming thru hdmi does work . I have done so with much success .Thou there are limitations.. READ THE FIRST STICKY Thread . by Wearcat.. she is awesome with this type of stuff .
as far as other things ..
things i use my tablet for
only thing i check email on.
browser forums
web site stuff google music and can browser my home network from anywhere
GPS
so it can replace most of the things you HAVE TO DO Short of editing images and major documents typing is not great on the tab unless you plug in a keyboard ..
i would say if your buying a tablet get this one over the available tablets.. or wait until tegra 3 comes out.. but waiting will be more costly new tech is not cheap
Not really looking for something to completely repalce my lap top as of yet, granted I havent turned it on really in months other than to charge one of my phones from time to time. Acer to me seems to build a reliable product, I have 2 17" laptops, and I purchased two Acer netbooks for my children. It looks like it would be a great supplement to the rest of my android fleet as well. Really just need something that I can take when I travel light, read emails, check my google voice, read books, watch a video here or there, more or less something to replace some dutie of my phone while at home and to replace some duties of my laptop while away. Will probly use it as gps too since its got a bigger screen would look great mounted in my truck OOOH better yet remove my radio and install bluetooth speakers with a custom built dash mount.

If you live in the US you're in for a treat as you can use Google Videos for renting and streaming movies and Google Music to store all your songs there and streaming them too so you don't have to use tablet's own storage space for them.
And yes, displaying videos through HDMI works just fine, though there are several limitations. Like for example, you will only get 720p output if you use non-default player, the default player is AFAIK the only one that can do 1080p output, but then again the default player doesn't support .MKV files or subtitles or anything.
As for actual movies themselves: the tablet only supports 1080p basic-profile, meaning that you will have to transcode almost everything you might already have. Not to mention that the tablet also doesn't handle AC3 audio, so again you will have to downmix audio first before you transfer the file to the tablet.
You have to decide for yourself if it's worth the hassle, but I would personally suggest getting a Tegra3 - based tablet instead even though it's more expensive, just to save you from the hassle from having to transcode everything. It really is a terribly hassle if you are a film buff like myself.

Not a big movie buff, just like to watch them, and really for me watching a movie on it would be a once in a blue moon thing and not a big deal breaker. Most typically stream movies through my xbox, and my tv only plays at 720p so no 1080 for me as of yet. I did read your thread about the handbrake looks involved but not extremely advanced difficult. Thanks for your input think Ill go with this until the tegra 3 comes out then weigh my options then. Maybe by then Ill be able to get a new TV to compliment a new tablet.
And seriously you edited your post because of a missing semicolon? I bet it pains you to read the gibberish I just typed.

Yes she does...I think its so cute.her and a few of the guys are on me often for my lack of typing and spelling skills.
But they loves me so i not cry too often. Giggles.
The post for using Handbrake to convert the vids has worked perfectly fine on all the videos I have had to convert and is much easier to do than the instructions make it sound. The instructions are actually just really detailed, so there's less to do than what you read.
One of my favorite uses now for the tablet... I have a Super Nintendo again!. I finally got a wired generic PS3 remote, using some SNES emulator (forgot which), connected to my TV over HDMI, and some, um... "backed up" SNES games and BAM, full SNES center again. I am such a nerd for "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past".
Also, when I'm feeling really lazy, I use TeamViewer to remote into my HTPC and use it as my wireless keyboard/mouse. AND, if you have a Sony Media Streamer, there is a Android app to allow you to control your N100 or N200 from the tablet. Oh, and I read a lot of eBooks on it.
All in all, just as you mentioned, this tablet is a great "supplement", and since I never have the need for heavy duty computing while on the go, the tablet is all I've ever needed when I am not home. The main reason for me choosing this one ovr the others was the built in ports such as the miniUSB, USB, HDMI, and audio ports. Yeah those may have added a little girth and heft to the device, but those were bonuses for me instead of getting a device where you need to buy different adapters to have the same ports.

Then you should have no issues A500 works just fine for streaming movies, too, though there is no DLNA client on it by default. You can install one from the Market anyways so it's not such a huge issue.

Well I bought it last night and I gotta say what an amazing piece of hardware. I havent found a feature yet that I dislike. Seems to have ample computing power for what I need, and the display is fairly decent sems a little washed out on the white side but still good. Thanks for everyones help.
Read twice flash once.!!!!!!!
your very welcome thank everyone by reading before flashing so that you don't mess the tablet up.
Something that im guessing is easily done.
Flashed mine 30or so times and never bricked thou close once.
Man.... almost grounds for visiting a "dating" site....
What ever happened to "brute force"?
No, we have to have "correct" punctuation here... Wani wani wani...
Just get the tab. For the money, you will not find a finer device.
Or a better lot of people to support it
I just bought mine a couple of days ago and I am very happy with it. Trying to read as much as I can before the rooting process begins.... You will be happy with it.

[Q] output

being a total newbie to tablets i am looking to finally delve in with a nexus 10, it looks a amazing machine, and everything i am looking for, well except for one item.
i regularly use my laptop to give presentations, and need to connect to a projector via vga.
Colleagues use the iPad, and it is seamless, but personally i prefer the android route.
From all my research i have come to the conclusion that this is not feasible on the nexus 10?
cant beleive such a high ens spec machine cannot support it.
Please any one shed some light.
Thanks
kScot
VGA is low spec...
Get a HDMI to vga adapter.
Via my HTC Rezound
Adapters are cheap stuff. You will need two, though: micro-HDMI to HDMI, and from there, HDMI to VGA.
Thanks,
I assume then it just mirrors the screen?

well, technically, it doesn't "just" mirror the screen, it should also output sound. still, i wonder, why you put "just mirror the screen" in your post, what more do you expect from a video out? cookies?

It won't do audio through vga.

Adapters are cheap stuff. You will need two, though: micro-HDMI to HDMI, and from there, HDMI to VGA.

Kapow. Who knew these existed.
Whether the Nexus puts out enough juice over HDMI to power it though, who can say without trying it.

I feel for you man! At work we have to put up with the worst equipment paid for with ginormous amounts of money.
At my work, the technical coordinator bought a Smartboard, which is a giant touchscreen with a few software extras. It is about a 70" inch screen and has been introduced as the more expensive top model. Naturally, I brought some equipment to take it through a test drive - an hdmi adapter for my Galaxy S3 and some 1080p trailers.
Then came realisation - not only do they connect it via VGA to the presentation pc, it only supports 1366 * 768 max resolution (the S3 would happily output 1080p if supported). Piece Of Crap Deluxe. At least they extended a HDMI cable to where the PC stands, but it doesn't have a suitable graphics adapter. Will still look crappy anway when they eventually upgrade that one. :crying:
