Hey all.
New button on the Market app home screen... its where My apps button use to be.
It brings up some Sony apps like linkedin timescape addin. Also a contact widget.
Will post more when get home. Must be flipping switches on for Play
Running rooted Rogers 2.1.1.A.0.6. Confirmed button exists with friend with Rogers Xperia X10.

same here does not depend on the fw looks like depends on what brand your phone is
from that link nothing looks interesting, just hanashi which is a copy from whatsapp
this is the list I see
several extenders/plugins for timescape (free)
several games (mostly free)
IM called hanashi (free)
dunno if depends on the market's region
Same here i have it too
Not for me... I only see the standard Market options and nothing more! May be it takes time to update, I guess.
btw I think this is obvious, but you have to be on stock firmware to see this 'sony ericsson button'
For everyone else, you can just go to the market and search for Sony Ericsson to see everything mentioned above.
Yep - seeing it on my de-branded X10a here in the States on AT&T.
I prefer the downloads tab. Nothing in this new S/E section interests me.

i don't see it but i guess coz i'm running FreeX10 2.2?
I'm guessing SE's target for this are the people with newer xperia models

Mostly due to the Psp phone.. "short lived it may be... lack of tegra it has"
May the fail be with it..
Today we’ve launched our very own channel in Android Market. We’re the first mobile phone manufacturer to do this and I’m really excited to see what we will be able to use it for. It should start to become available for most of you out there starting from today. It is an operator dependant feature though so it will not be there for all of you but most of you will get it.
What it means is that the “My Apps” option in Android Market is replaced by a link to our specific channel. (Don’t worry – “My Apps” is still available as well if you press the menu key.)
We will use this channel for many things, as a starting point this is our plan:
- Provide recommendations to help you find the best games & apps that enhance your Sony Ericsson ‘most entertaining’ experience.
- Provide a way to easily find original apps from Sony Ericsson such as Timescape plugins etc.
- From time to time offer exclusive games & apps only available in this channel.
- Help our developer partners promote their apps & games giving them a highlighted market space to our consumers.
Navigating through Android Market finding the right stuff is sometimes a bit tricky and this will give us a unique opportunity to more easily help consumers finding the stuff that we often get asked about or things that we know really enhances the user experience of our phones.
I’m sure there are more ways we could use this channel going forward so if you have ideas or suggestions on what you think we should do just shout away in the comments section!

amen for that
the only thing that makes xperia play interesting is the ability to play games (good ones according to SE) but that's why I have my PSP
also most are looking for GB and dual core devices now so basically SE is like 4 years behind
Who needs that button?
I don't...

Not happy about this myself. The My Apps button was the most used part of the market for me to check for updates and uninstall things. Now SE have removed that and made it harder to get to while giving me easy access to great bloatware which we spend out time trying to get rid of!
It might not be so bad if my X10i was capable of giving update notifications but they only appear once I load the My Apps page anyway!
So SE haven't learnt the requirements of an Android user after all

For those of you that follow football will no doubt know that Sony has been sponsoring the UEFA Champions League (the most lucrative football tournament in the world) for years now. Now Sony Ericsson is jumping on the bandwagon and has become “the official mobile handset of the UEFA Champions League” until 2012.
As part of the new partnership, Sony Ericsson will be developing a new mobile application for the Xperia family of smartphones, in conjunction with UEFA.com. It’s unknown what this will entail but the app will utilise the “GPS capabilities of Xperia smartphones”.
day after day i fell in love with my phone more and more and thanx myself for making the right choice.
I see that after the 2.1 update Generic UK we've got this application (UEFA.com).
Has anyone been able to do anything with it? It tried to start it, I filled in some data I was asked, but nothing happened afterwards...
I just download it from PlayNow
It really has a friendly user-interface with nice touch
you can see clubs' group standings, view calender, news, pictures, choose favourite club and many more

with the update my phone scores 17pts in linpack, above of the galaxy S. lets see how it performs with an optimized kernel. outdated eh?
I have both the Galaxy and the X10 and im sorry but unfortunatley the galaxy blows the X10 away in every dept , i love my X10 but even after the 2.1 update its still not that fast and as an actual telephone ( to make phone calls) it is the worst one ive ever owned , i really hoped that sony would sort out the in call volume issues but they havent ! and the horrible blue theme and menus suck , but hopefully someone will release a custom rom which will sort at least some of the problems out.
do I have to get it through PlayNow? Couldn't find it in the market, and I have uninstalled PlayNow (I have a backup somewhere, though).
1. I do like Football (aka Soccer to some of you)
2. It is free even though it may be a gimmick
3. I'd use it quite a bit..
but
4. It does not seem to want to work. I register it, and then it closes down on me... anyone else have these issues and were able to resolve it? I can ee it in Play but it wont let me re-download it...

Decided to reinstall Playnow to get it...

I hope this hasn't been posted already, I have had a look to see, and didn't see anything so please forgive me if it has, but I was just reading through twitter and saw this:
XJohanPerssonX:
@SonyEricssonUK Will Xperia X10 get 16 million colors from 65k colors with 2.1?
SonyEricssonUK:
@XJohanPerssonX The display colours will not be updated at this time however all feedback regarding this has been passed on for you.
Sad news to some. Personally I'm not overly dissapointed, but with certain limitations unlocked in Android 2.1 from 1.6, if some are still being restricted by Sony Ericsson themselves, makes me wonder if any other additions will be stripped on the X10 2.1 upgrade (personally built in exchange support is my biggy).
Built in exchange support is the only real thing I am looking forward to the update for, I hope that isn't overlooked :/

This has already been discussed to death in the 2.1 thread.
"At this time" means probably not with this update... remember, to speed up getting 2.1, SE decided to split the 2.1 update in half, with parts to come in Q4.

No worries! I admit, the threads are pretty much people speculating left and right, and anything newsworthy gets lost in the shuffle!
I read a blog where an engineering student in India claimed an insider friend of his (or maybe somebody who had first hand time with the update?) confirmed the 16m colors are in the 2.1 update. We will have to wait and see but I wouldn't put too much weight on what SE UK says on Twitter or Facebook. Those are truly canned responses.

Well, that's not the blog I read but I believe it's the same guy. Either way, nothing is true or official until it's released. I did find SE UK on Facebook, and most of their responses to questions are absolutely canned. Almost AI like. I won't believe anything until I see it.
How can we check on the phone whether its 16m or 65K??????
That link above says its 100% confirmed that its been upgraded to 16million. Is this source reliable?

No there isn't... Look at the quick search widget. You can see gradient you wouldn't get with 16m colours.
The background itself on the right is a nice dark one which hides any colour problems.
Hello guys!
In about a week I'm going to the VIP launch event of the new Xperia-line in Brussels. I'll be able to extensively test the new phones and ask questions about them. If there is anything you want to know or want me to try out, please let me know in this topic.
It's Wednesday the 23'd, so you still have some time!

Hey
I'd like to know how all the basic applications are on the Arc, compared to HTC's. I'm talking about the dialer, contacts, calendar, clock and also Facebook integration... those things. I like HTC's, and I don't really like the stocks Android ones, so I'm wondering... No one really looks at those in reviews so far.
And I don't suppose you could install LauncherPro one the phone hehe...
Thanks, and have fun!
Many of us would like to know if the bootloader on the new Xperia phones will be locked. The true USP of Android is it's infinite customizability. Why does SE lock down their bootloaders?
EDIT: Also, I've read about a lot of lag on the Xperia Neo, during homescreen transitions and such. Can you please confirm if this is true? And if yes, how much would you rate it on the annoyance-meter?
EDIT #2: A lot of questions for you! :-D Does SE have any update schedule in place? How long will it take for them to deliver a point release update to their devices once Google releases it?

I guess I can answer those question for you.
1. Bootloader - It will be locked as always. There's no point in trying to convince them, as other companies are now following SE in signing their bootloader and locking it. It is not encrypted anymore, so there's no argument on blaming just SE that locks their bootloader.
2. The neo's video that we saw was running on an older firmware. I have a more current firmware, and it is lagless. I have mentioned that there's a small spike when you have massive amount of widgets that requires information from the internet, and it's been the same on all handsets, not just SE phones. There should be a video of it running lagless soon. I'll be sure to update on that.
3. There's an update planned. Cannot say much since Google hasn't announced anything yet, but it's planned

I can answer 1 and 2 for you already, I suppose. The bootloader will be locked, definately. There is no reason for Sony Ericsson not to lock it, and my guess is many other companies will be locking their bootloaders too pretty soon. The lag will probably be gone. If you look at reviews of the retail units on YouTube (they're rare, but they're there) you can easily tell everything is extremely smooth, even the widget overview thing!
On the update schedule - will definately try to get details of that!

Make sure to get the exact retail price in euros for the European market
Ask them about USB-OTG
Playstation Certified?
Please ask if it is Playstation Certified as well. It has the exact same processor and GPU of the Xperia play, so it'll be a little annoying if SE does not allow it to run the Playstation Pocket app.
If it will play the games, I am pretty much sold on this device, especially since the games will be optimized for the Adreno 205 GPU.
EDIT: If you can find a ballpark figure for the price in US dollars that would be swell, it doesn't matter if it's in Euros either.
the certification will probably involve physical controllers
I think if it was PS certified they would have already said so.

+1 to that. I agree that when it comes to the wholesome experience, nothing beats Sense. Android stock simply sucks on integration experience - dialer, home screen, calendar, synchronization, weather animation and so on.

I read a few unconfirmed statements (supposedly from Qualcomm) on the internet about SE employing newer optimised video drivers for the Adreno 205 chip in their new Xperia line.
This would make sense considering how they are pushing gaming with the Play, which uses the same hardware as the Arc. We all know that the Adreno 205 chip with the current drivers will come up short against most of the existing competition in 3D gaming performance, and that's not to mention the stuff coming out later this year. Better drivers won't make it a winner but it would likely create a very noticeable difference.
Again though, this is no more than a rumour. Confirmation of this would be great!

Well this is only the link to download the new and brilliant Android Market.
Official Information:
The new Market client is designed to better showcase top apps and games, engage users with an improved UI, and provide a quicker path to downloading or purchasing your products. For developers, the new Android Market client means more opportunities for your products to be merchandised and purchased.
In the home screen, we've created a new promotional page that highlights top content. This page is tiled with colorful graphics that provide instant access to featured apps and games. The page also lets users find their favorite books and movies, which will help drive even more return visits to Market.
To make it fun and easy for users to explore fresh content, we've added our app lists right to the Apps and Games home pages. Users can now quickly flip through these lists by swiping right or left, checking out what other people are downloading in the Top Paid, Top Free, Top Grossing, Top New Paid, Top New Free, and Trending lists. To keep the lists fresh and relevant, we've made them country-specific for many of the top countries.

To help you convert visitors to customers, we’ve made significant changes to the app details page. We've moved the app name and price into a compact action bar at the top of the page, so that users can quickly download or purchase your app. Directly below, users can flip through screen shots by swiping right or left, or scroll down to read your app's description, what's new, reviews, and more. To help you promote your product more effectively, the page now also includes a thumbnail link to your product video which is displayed at full screen when in landscape orientation.
For users who are ready to buy, we've streamlined the click-to-purchase flow so that users can complete a purchase in two clicks from the app details page. During the purchase, users can also see a list of your other apps, to help you cross-sell your other products.
With a great new UI, easy access to app discovery lists, a convenient purchase flow, and more types of content, we believe that the new Market client will become a favorite for users and developers alike.
Watch for the new Market client coming to your phone soon. We've already begun a phased roll-out to phones running Android 2.2 or higher — the update should reach all users worldwide in the coming weeks. We encourage you to try the update as soon as you receive it. Meanwhile, check out the video below for an early look.

...not sure on the implications it will have for those of us who have already modified our Nooks...?

Remember that web browser that was found hiding in the Nook's search function? It's time could be nigh. According to a leaked memo acquired by TechCrunch, Barnes & Nobel will be updating the Nook Simple Touch and Simple Touch with Glowlight with an email app, web browser and an updated store next month. The update will reportedly be sent over the air starting on June 1st and rolling out to all devices in the following weeks. The idea isn't too far fetched -- the Simple Touch is running a skinned version of Android. Nook owners not willing to wait for the official patch can always root the device of course, which comes with some peripheral advantages. Check out TechCrunch for a look the full memo.

I doubt it. The hardware is really old now and there are severe storage limitations.

Interesting; I wonder if they've got a newer kernel as well, or just tweeked there existing ancient one.

Very interesting, can't wait for the update!
Anyway I was hoping for the store, I would like to install apps without root, but I guess it's never going to happen!

I would doubt that we could get the Play store as someone noted that the new design of it does not work with our venerable Nooks.
Still it is a nice update, not sure if I would get it though as mine is rooted etc and thus it might prevent it from downloading.
This Nook is over a year old now (isn't it?)... There can't be that many tablet manufacturers still willing to perform hefty developments on hardware that old. So web browser and email client announcement will be just that. And no more... no kernel, no other android support. I guess the 'updated store' is their B&N book store, not any kind of android store.
(I omit other bug fixes and reading-centric improvements)
(and as someone who has rooted and set up their nook just nicely, I don't think I'll care about this update, unless it does anything useful for me).
It would be lovely have a official service to send and parse content to nooks, a kind of "Send to Nook" from web browsers and smart phones.

That's what I'm hoping. Even if it just lets you import epubs from email I'd be good with that, it'd allow things like News Beamer and the like to work, as well as adding new sideloaded books without plugging into a computer which is honestly the thing I miss most from the rooted version since I accidentally triggered a reset to stock
==EDIT== some way to import books without plugging in, ability to edit the screensaver banner (had it as an "if found, contact" statement), and a persistent 1 px battery bar at the bottom of the screen and they'd cover all the root features I personally usedwith any regularity
A web browser might mean the device will get official multi-touch support.
The increase from 1.2.1 to 1.5.0 would suggest a bunch of under the hood stuff.
