what do u mean by front keys? as in the 4 soft keys?
i had the same problem with my phone (very dim notification LED and soft key lights). i sent it back for the manufacturers warranty, and apparently there's a part on the motherboard thats faulty. if you send yours back for a warranty claim you could get the problem fixed.

Yes I ment front softkeys. At the moment I have NO idea what to do with it.

I have/had the same problems as you do. I didn't find a solution for the keyboard and softkeys backlight problems, but I don't find them so annoying. I think it's just a little tweak and it'll be solved. About the non-responsive touchscreen while answering calls, I realized that it was my fault: I always put my MM2 on my pockets with the screen turned to my legs, as an old habit, since I've owned a lot of Nokias and their screens weren't that strong, and being a mechanical engineer I've always had sharp things on my pockets (screwdrivers, screws, washrings, you name it). What happens is that the screen is SO sensitive that it can sense the skin of your leg, and when it gets a imediate response when receiving a call, it would "crash" while it was still ringing. I could see who was calling, I was able to silence the ringtone through hardkeys, but the touchscreen was basically dead during the call. The solution that I found was to turn the screen side to outside, and I never had this problem again. It's a peopleware problem =P
Hope that helps you.

If you attach a rubber square to the back of your pocket (between pocket and leg skin) you may be able to solve this problem
BTW, gorilla glass is very strong against scratches, but it breaks easily. I'll keep my screen turned to my leg.

Hi,
I know you are new on here but a few threads up from yours you would have found this one...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Take time out to read it and you should find answers to at least some of your problems.
Good luck

The screen is capacitive, so it shouldnt be possible for anything to be pressed in your pocket.

Whilst the screen is capacitive, the material of a pocket may be thin enough to still allow a key press to register.
Also I believe the hard keys would still be available to press and could hang up the call.
I think there is an issue with the keypad becoming active while on a call.
I've used this phone since launch and it's driving me nuts.
One of the main problems is the proximity sensor which should turn off the touch screen during an active call intermittently doesn't work.
I called my wife today and cut her off at least twice because of this bug.
There is a reg tweek to reduce the sensitivity of the screen- you have to google it.
SMS is alos occasionally sticking.
I'm going to start a new thread to ask if 1.61 cure these issues.

Screen turns off right after phone calls are dialed

Hi folks:
Sorry if this problem has been covered before. I ran a search to try to see if I could find someone having this problem and could not find it. This problem started all of a sudden (without any ROM updates or nothing).
This is it: I make a phone call, and immediately after I press "TALK" on the screen, the screen turns itself off, and I don't have access to the keypad, or any of the touchscreen functionality.
I tried pressing all the hardware buttons to see if the screen would come back on, but nothing, it stays off.
Then, when I hang up the call (by pressing "END CALL" on the screen), the screen comes back on and everything is back to normal.
Can anyone offer any clues to solve this? Thanks in advance.
is the phone near something? maybe your ear?
is anything in front of aproximity sensor? (upper left, near speaker)

Nope... I use a BT headset since I got it (this only started happening 2 days ago, and I've used this device for over a month now).
It also happens everywhere (in my room, outside in the street, etc).
Very puzzling... I am thinking of doing a hard reset, but want to see if anyone has had this happen before...
Does it happen when you don't use the headset?
Yes indeed, I had already checked that and ruled out that the headset was causing the issue.
have you recently installed a "screen protector" ? This happened to mine as i hadn't quite got the holes lined up for the proximity sensors.
thanks,
scater1983
This happened to me as well today. Had the phone for 3 months now and can't say I've noticed it before. I do have a screen protector which also covers the proximity sensor (no holes in that area), but this was like a month ago and I have had no problem accessing the screen during calls until today. I have made a couple of calls after the one I mentioned but didn't remember to check if the problem was still there. Will try to see on the next one
ive been able to just press a face button to bring the screen back up. of course mine turns off when i put it near my ear thats intended. i had an issue where the touchscreen would not work at all durung a call. the screen would be on but only the physical buttons could do anything. a hard reset fixed that
Yeap, coincidentally, I just installed a screen protector and a protective case (darn). I will try this without the case and report back.
Thank you !
Problem solved ..
Been trawling these forums for hours for a registry edit to fix screen blank when making a phone call - LOL - who would have thought it was the cheap plastic case I whacked on the other day!

In call screen problem HELP!!!!

During a call
When a call is in progress, a shade covers the Phone dialer’s onscreen buttons to prevent accidental taps. Only the Keypad and End Call buttons are active.
Well for some strange reason this is no longer the case with my HD2, the shade is no longer there and all buttons are active without having to pull down which is annoying the hell out of me as I keep pressing random buttons with my cheek, anywhere in settings to turn this back on? I cant find it grrrrr!!!!

Have you installed BsBTweaks? If so, you've de-selected the Phone Slide Cover option.
Nope, no bsb tweeks, its really odd, and i cant find it on the settings page, oh well, was due another hard reset anyway!
Do you have screen protector? . If yes, take it out. And your problem is solved . Plz notify me . If you have a screen protector its not necessary, it will not correct your problem to make hard reset. If not..then we will what we can do for you
I have a different problem? When I make or receive a call as soon as I accept, the screen goes dark and I cannot see the display. I can tap any button and then it shows the display. Can I change that to c the display all the time? On my iPhone, it would go dark when I place the phone to my ear, but once I removed the phone from my ear, the display would be there. Thanks!

Man, do you have a screen protector yes or no ?. Because i had the same problem. Look mate, in the HTC there are two sensors. It is on the left as you watch the phone. Sometimes the screen protector becomes dirty, then this brings problem to the sensors. So, if you have screen protector please remove it, so i guess that it will work like the Iphone after. When you have the phone at your ear, the screen becomes black. When you remove it from your ear the screen appears. Did you understand me ?. If you dont have screen protector then we will see. Plz notify me.

I do not have a screen protector on my HD2. I also keep my screen very clean, too.

When you place the phone near your ear when you are calling someone the proximity sensor will turn off screen light,is this the case?
Hello, in my experience, this happens if you installed some skins that sometimes conflicts with other system programs.
And so it sometimes goes to block or crash when using the phone call, sometimes when it comes into operation on lookscreen.
To understand skin: skin various widgets, widgets CHT, taskbar, etc..
The advice I can give you is to do a hard reset if you can not do proxy conflict.
First i would like to thank you for your response.
The phone turns black immediately after push call button or push the contact button.
I already tried a hard reset.
I'm sorry: you did a soft reset or hard reset? very strange .... your rom is cooked or original stock?
You do not have any spare housing that protects the phone and could cover the sensor? stupid question. but it is very strange.
Problem is solved. The glass has been repaired and the repairman has forgotten to remove a strip that covered the sensor.
Thanks for your help
OK! sometimes it happens .....

Unintended taps during call: how to prevent them?

Hi!
I"m not the only having the problem: during a call unintended taps takes place while screen waking up is not registered during the call. So, you see, I'm not sure a proximity sensor is the reason of the problem as far as screen is kept turned off.
I have tried to reproduce the issue by fingers, but wasn't lucky.
Have you any ideas how to eliminate the problem?
I mean not-rooted official up-to-date stock firmware use case.
And, by the way, I haven't found proximity sensor calibration in service menu for A1. Is it placed somewhere into another place?
That happens to me all the time too.
Yup, me too. While in call I sometimes unknowingly turn on the flashlight and probably look like an idiot. ?
With the rn3p I would constantly end up muted. With mi a1 the problem is much less although I've noticed that numbers are still pressed. I've learned over time to switch to keypad so when something gets touched it's not the mute and at worst the other person receives some key tones.
I also have this problem a lot. I mute myself 9/10. To bypass to problem, I just lock the screen before placing it against my ear.
Yes, a simple soutions is just when you call someone, imidiately press power button to lock the screen (no password or fingerprint requred to unlock)

That's what I've been doing. That and pushing the top part of the mobile on my face just to make sure. lol
Oh and use the Feedback app and send it to xiaomi and hope they fix it on the next update.
i had this problem too, has it been fixed in the latest of updates? its a really annoying bug.
You must be doing something wrong. This issue "must" have been in all smartphone operating systems in the world, if what you are saying is the truth.
There's no way to drop the call, or press anything while you are calling someone. The proximity sensor doesn't allow turning on the screen when it's close to an object. The gyroscope also turns off the screen when you rotate the phone vertically during a call.
But all I can say is that it's not a bug, this is how is your phone knows when you are in a call, and you put your phone to your ear, or when you use your "speaker", and so the phone knows it's supposed to used it's speaker to transfer voice through the call.
Beside my poor English, try to move your phone a bit vertically before putting it close to your ear.
same problem here, also disabling ambient display... i also tested proximity sensor with some apps and it seems ok
I have that problem too from the beginning. None of the updates came up with a solution
Same here: I mute, turn on the flashlight or even open apps sometimes with my face. And thanks for the input @SmallTarzan but i know how to operate a smartphone and did not have any similar problems for the last five years. Apart from that annoying bug it's a great phone.
Wow, i dont know of this bug since i'm using custom rom from very beginning.
Try to make a call then use your hand to cover top part of the phone, screen doesn't lock??
I am having this issue too and it is really annoying
And still nobody came up with a solution???
It's easy to understand why it happens.
Proximity activates while you're in a call, but apparently the touchscreen digitizer remains working (even though the screen is off). Touching the digitizer with your ears or cheeks activates different actions while you think your screen is locked.
I can't believe how this issue is not fixed yet! That's a shame!
Same applies for the network fluctuation issues. You need to either choose 3G or 4G to avoid loosing your data connection.
Xiaomi that's more than LAME! You need to be ashamed of yourselves.
It happens to me quite often, although not always.
It's more frequent during long calls. If the call lasts for less than a minute or so, it doesn't happen.
Proximity sensor works, and screen turns off as soon as I put it at my ear.
Keyboard is off and not responding for a while. Then, all of a sudden the phone comes alive.
In my case it's not the torch. What I activate unknowingly is the handsfree loudspeaker, which can be even more embarrassing, sometimes.
Maybe it's because I am left-handed.
In an attempt to have the proximity sensor fully covered by my face, I tried to make calls by holding the phone with my right hand, but to no avail, after some time the screen wakes up regardless of everything.
Happens to me too. Although I did notice some differences regarding the position of the phone on my ear or which side of my head I put the phone on, I started pressing the power button long ago to turn the screen off. It may not be ideal, but it takes care of it.
