I've read on several sites about this phone and i'm planning to buy one but the problem is i'm confused whether this device is pumped up with a LCD, TFT capacitive or AMOLED screen? now some websites state that it has AMOLED tft capacitive screen. I would like to have some clarification about this. and some feedback would be appreciative about this device...
The first stock had AMOLED screens, now they are produced with TFT's you may be able to find an AMOLED one via ebay etc.
Many people will say there isn't much difference anyway.
Well actually, there's a huge difference..see for yourself !

Yes it's brighter etc but also the con being screen burn!
Anyway you will have to buy second hand or old stock for AMOLED
Glad baught mine when first came out...
It's actually quite easy to find out if your Blade has the AMOLED or TFT screen.
Go to settings> About phone> Build number
If it ends in 05, it's an AMOLED. If it ends in 08, you've got yourself a LCD. (This is only true for grey devices.)

I thought it was a TFT LCD screen.
LOL just like sprint to possibly print the wrong specs on their own website. I guess from a development stand point it doesn't matter if the screen in AMOLED or TFT. I worry about AMOLED considering the stuff being reported about the nexus one screen though.
as someone using an AMOLED phone I'm glad it has a high quality TFT instead. My phone is absolutely atrocious to view in sunlight. While Super-AMOLED takes care of this problem, it isnt available on any non-Samsung phones and Samsung probably wants to keep it exclusive for a while
Hi!!!
just though id share with you...
I just called HTC europe to enquire about getting my cracked screen repaired-
£150 is their "general cost" it could be more or less, depending on severity, they told me.
and that it could take a minimum of 2 weeks, with pickup and delivery included as long as it's in warranty...
Then i asked about the screen type it would be replaced with, in light of the recent news that there is an AMOLED shortage...
and they told me that SLCD will be the standard replacement screen from now on!!!!
yay!!!!
Darren
I wonder if there will be a flood of cracked screens now ..........
Would like to see a direct comparison here before I crack mine ..........
LOL
i hope not, otherwise they'll run out of SLCD too.... and then what.....
iphone-like retina displays.... OOOoooo
here it is: comparisons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY6qpnoziZM&feature=player_embedded
But they wouldn't replace our screen with AMOLED anyways... the shortage has no effect on our screens.
I doubt 4.3" slcds are being made
If this is true , that would be amazing SLCD on HD2 very very nice
Yay, if what you're saying is true, maybe no more multi touch issues.

First, the HD2 never had an AMOLED screen, so, shortage in amoled screens?Strange!
in any case, too bad i can't benefit from this given that my property insurance would replace my phone right away and not bother with the screen =)
expensive
A little too expensive for me to want to crack my screen
I heard that only at first Htc used Amoled display for Legend, and later on Super lcd. How to check the type of our scrren (display)?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
read the specs on back of the white box the legend was in
I just know about AMOLED Devices.
The switch from AMOLED to SuperLCD has been done at the Desire and as far as I know not on the Legend
I am very satisfied with display on Legend. Is there any significant difference (better or worse) with S-LCD?
well i compared it with a SLCD htc desire and i think the AMOLED is much better
Legend only uses AMOLED anyway, don't worry about it
S-LCD almost the same that amoled, only maybe contrast have some little difference
if i'm not mistaken
s-lcd
Super LCD is much nice when reading text and websites AMOLED is better for watching video,
SLCD is much sharper but isnt stand out bright and over saturated like AMOLED which is fuzzy and soft around sharp corners like text
look here and it shows you actual pictures were you can see the difference

Note though that the Desire AMOLED had a PenTile arrangement which seems to account for the marked difference in the shift to SLCD. The Legend's AMOLED screen uses a conventional RGB arrangement so probably wouldn't have suffered the same comparisons had it also moved to SLCD.
This page has a good breakdown of the differences.

Yes, you are all right. I have bought desire z and I can see the difference. S-lcd is much sharper, but amoled has much better contrast - black is really black
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Some webshops often say that the black HTC legend is equiped with LCD and the silver one with AMOLED. My collegue has a black one, I have a silver one and both have amoled.
You can easily see the difference when you tilt them. Amoled's colors almost don't change (even if you're almost at 180°), LCD's colors go weird...

Oh, Thanks ! Is that the simple way to tell ?
My new Virgin Mobile Canada Legend's box says AMOLED but I think the box is lying. Wonder if I can sue somebody, LOL, jk. I guess HTC may be at partial fault too since their spec page claims AMOLED: http://www.htc.com/www/product/legend/specification.html
I recall some article quoting an HTC rep saying the "backward" move to LCD would save power, but then tests (and common tech sense?) showed that was a lie. I originally was disappointed at the loss of AMOLED, but from what I've read though, I'd prefer LCD if given the choice, simply due to the better legibility. On the down side, LCD takes more power, doesn't have the deeper blacks and colors, and may be a bit harder to see in the bright outdoors.
Bell supposedly dropped the Legend because of the AMOLED supply issue. AFAIK all of the later (after last summer or there-abouts ?) Legends are LCD. Would be nice if we could tell via serial numbers or something.
My Legend's colors start going weird somewhere around 170 degrees or so (just a rough guess). So I guess I have LCD ?
You could also take a cheap microscope and look at the screen. The difference is startling. Amoled will be made up of a lot of lines, more red than blue (I think). LCD would look completely different

With the screen on and white, right ? I tried this with a jewelers loupe and see lines about twice as high vertically as horizontaly (with the phone speaker up and mike down). It looks like there are thin red lines and thicker green lines that are somewhat blue-ish.
Would there be any difference in device drivers loaded ? I see a driver in dmesg with "oled" in the name.
This microscope diagnostic method will not work on Legend and it has an RGB matrix - the Desire LED had pentile matrix.
All you have to do is display a mostly black screen (the android settings menu is a good example), find a dark environment and look at the display. An SLCD will seep light from black areas where an LED will be an almost perfect black.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
i have legend with amoled my friend have desire (i guess it lcd)
i can notice his display has slight better screen in the menu like smoother or something but on the legend view aspect is higher than on the desire....
both of them are good
"The Korean company’s yet to be launched AH-IPS display for mobile devices, just received the prestigious Quality & Performance Mark from Intertek – a global testing and certification company. What’s particularly important about this award for LG, is that it has been achieved by comparing its display with no other but Samsung Galaxy SII’s Super AMOLED screen."---gsmarena blog
Are you excited about this ?? Do you believe its going to beat Samsung's SUPER AMOLED HD.

they are saying an IPS display beats an advanced AMOLED display
.......
Yes, Im very excited about this but we would only see this on LG's phones or on the Iphone5.. I do hope its gonna beat Samsung's SAMOLED HD!
If there is anything which can outplay S-AMOLED Plus then I will be greatly happy. Don't wanna stick with Samsung frankly as I don't like them at all.
(I am not a fan boy of any brand btw)
Regards.
But you don't know how the SUPER AMOLED PLUS HD is going to look like, only time can tell you.
Even though AMOLED+ has gorgeous colours and blacks are jet black, OLED has a lot low life span compared to lcd, and the burn-in can be a problem, you just have to avoid static images, the status bar can be a problem, i have see pictures of the time burned into the screen.
No LCD will beat OLED technology and IPS is just LCD. Don't believe that.

I perfectly know what to expect with Super AMOLED Plus HD, its gonna have the same inherit issue as what the non HD counter part has, thought not all screen will be defective but pretty sure it will be at a higher rate than the non HD.

which shouldn't be surprising at all. Everyone knows that SAMOLED is often oversaturated and burns power when showing whites.
Meanwhile super amoleds (as well as other OLEDs) still outclass LCDs in contrast, viewing angles, response times, color gamut, black levels, and thickness. SAMOLED is still better, and will always be.
You people are missing one point here LG's AH IPS display is a HD screen, whereas s2's amoled screen is not. THe award was won by LG because they were the first to launch HD display, now samsung has its own amoled hd display. So there should be direct comparison between 2 HD screens and not with s2's amoled+

That's pretty old, meanwhile LG Nitro has incorporated that HD screen and a battery of 1830mAh.
Has anybody seen the battery life of that thing ? It's a piece of crap even if LG stated that it's more economical than the SA+

I'm considering purchasing a Dell Venue Pro for AT&T. At $300, it seems like a pretty good deal, even if the new ones are coming out soon.
My question, does it have a PenTile screen? That would definitely be a deal-killer.
No, it has full RGB amoled screen. Not super-amoled.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The Venue Pro does have a PenTile (also known as Bayermatrix) Screen, its not the standard Matrix like a LCD would have.
Its a standard Samsung amoled, no super or super+
You certainly notice it on very bright colors, but its not as bad as i expected (its my first amoled phone)
Hmm. Two replies with conflicting answers and no answers by looking at specs. Anyone else? If it has PenTile, there is ZERO chance I will buy it. I had a Nexus One and I hated that screen.
It is PenTile, visible with the naked eye.
So far as I know, all Samsung AMOLED screens were PenTile until Super AMOLED Plus (as seen in SGS2). The tech was just not there to deliver a true RGB matrix for a reasonable price.
Damn. Oh well, saved myself $300. There is no way I will buy another PenTile screen.
Thanks for the help!
What's wrong with a PenTile screen?
I absolutely love the screen on the DVP. It's the best screen on any phone I've ever had. I hate super amoled and super amoled plus, I like my whites to be white. Not yellow.
I bought a Dell Venue Pro a few weeks ago and can tell you that the screen really is good. Colors are really ok and although the screen size is rather large, you will not be able to see any disadvantages due to the PenTile screen. I suggest if you are interested in buying one, then simply go to a shop and take a look at the screen for yourself and you will see that it is really good.
I compared it to quite a lot phones (such as LG Optimus P990, Palm Pre, Samsung Galaxy i9000 / i9100) and can say that the screen is far better than all the usual LCD screens and has no visable disadvantage compared to Super Amoled (Plus).
I do not believe the DVP is sold in any shops near me. The Microsoft Store had it when they first opened in November, but not anymore. I didn't get a great look at the screen back then, though. I was mainly looking at the hardware and it looked very nice.
I can't buy another PenTile screen, though. I can notice the crappy image that PenTile causes, especially to text. It was very noticeable on my Nexus One screen, the DVP has an even larger screen with the same resolution, making it more noticeable.
