I seem to be stuck. I have tried checking "Erase Recover" in settings, and have tried updating ROM Manager, then "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" It says it was successful, but it doesn't update CWM. I have tried rebooting, I have tried flashing back to stock CM7 RC4.
I want to try RoyalGinger 2.5, but it needs at least CWM 3.0.0.6.

What did you do to lead to this point. we need some more information.
Followed the guide to install CM 7 RC4 - which installed 3.0.0.5 at the time.
Flashed to a nightly build - the colorized version
Flashed back to CM 7 RC4
Flashed kernel to Faux123's kernel
Flashed back to stock CM7 RC4
Flashed kernel to Faux123's enthusiast kernel - tried updating CWM
Flashed back to stock CM7 RC4 - still trying to update CWM

Try redownloading Cyanogen's CM7RC with the gapps and store it on the phone's SD card. and make sure to verify the MD5SUM of the download.
Boot into recovery.
Wipe the handset
flash the ROM then Flash the Gapps
Then reboot
do not attempt to flash the kernel.
see if it boots.
Ok, I will try that. Just to clarify, my phone boots fine and works fine, just wont update CWM.

are you wanting to update to 3.0.0.6? is that what you are trying to do?
download the attached file and store just the .img on the SDcard of your phone
From your command terminal type
Code:
adb shell
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
=============
or if you have the Engineering HBoot
1) Download the attached file and store just the .img to your folder from which you preform all of your ADB commands
2) plug the phone into the computer
3) boot the phone into HBoot
4) from the ADB commands change the drive to the folder where you stored the recovery image.
5) type these commands
Code:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
the screen should say something to the degree of
Code:
sending 'recovery' (3426 KB)... OKAY [ 1.172s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 0.797s]
finished. total time: 1.969s

Dont mean to hijack your thread but I dont see a point in making a new thread from the same issue. I accidentally tried to flash RoyalGlacier with recovery 3.0.0.5 and now I can only get into CwR and hboot. Is there a ROM compatible with 3.0.0.5 that I can flash so I can get the phone booted and install the correct recovery?

since 3.0.0.6 is not official it will only show 3.0.0.5 when in the app. but if you boot into recovery it should show 3.0.0.6.

Searched, but couldn't find an answer to this. I rooted and installed ROM Manager so I can do a nandroid backup before installing a custom ROM. However, when I press back up in ROM Manager, it restarts and hangs/freezes on the HTC MyTouch 4g splash screen.
What am I doing wrong?
Have you flashed CWM recovery after installing Rom Manager. You must flash the recovery before you can backup/restore or install roms. I almost did that myself but luckily i read the thread concerning it again and flashed REcovery before trying to back up rom.
Yeah, I did that first and the problem remains. I just uninstalled and reinstalled ROM Manager and am about to try "backup current rom" again (unless I should reboot into recovery and back up from clockwork recovery?).
FWIW; Current recovery is ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2
anyone?
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I just started getting exactly the same. Cant reboot manually into clockwork recovery or from Rom manager :/
If you have flashed a recovery beyond that supported by ROM manager, you will not be able to perform recovery functions from the app (i.e. backup). CW3 is required for CM7 ROMs, but will not be supported by ROM manager until the CM7 RC drops. You can still manually boot to recovery (I always Vol up when powering then select Recovery) and if you have CM7 nightly installed, it has a "reboot to recovery" option in the reboot menu.
You need CWM3 to use CM7.

Sometimes it is necessary to flash clockwork recovery more than once before it will actually stick. Also, occasionally it will freeze on the splashscreen after a backup, but a battery pull and turning out the phone should be fine.

Here's what's going on:
The Clockworkmod Recovery that you can download from the Market only supports up to CyanogenMod 6.x. For CM7, you need to install Clockworkmod Recovery 3.x, but that version isn't available on the Market yet.
What this means is that you need to find the image file for a CWR 3.x on these forums and manually install it through either a terminal emulator or fastboot. The post below explains how to do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10862819&postcount=3
If you flash CM7 using CWR 2.x, your phone won't boot. There's just no way around it.

Careful with the terminology there. ROM Manager, the app you download from the Market, is a GUI front-end to the CWM recovery image, but you can download and install CWM without using ROM Manager at all. Just because you have ROM Manager installed doesn't mean that CWM recovery is also successfully installed.

You said "the Clockworkmod Recovery that you can download from the Market", and that kinda does. No biggie though.
Just an update for my problem, it turned out that clockwork recovery had corrupted for whatever reason and couldn't be reinstalled from rom manager. As I wanted to test Cm7 anyways I just ended up flashing clockwork recovery 3 manually through fastboot and its all gravy again

Thanks, everyone. What happened with mine, I have no idea, but I randomly opened rom manager and was greeted with an update to the recovery. So I downloaded it and voila - I can now boot into recovery and do backups, etc...
I want to flash CM7, but everytime I try flashing Clockwork recovery 3, it ends up staying at 2.5.1.2. What am I doing wrong? I tried flashing it from ROM Manager and that didn't help, and I don't know if I can flash it with the fastboot method since I'm using CWR already. What can I do?
Additional notes: Right now, I'm running CM6 RC2. And my phone looks sexy.
Like you I also came across that issue but trying to install kernel in Ice Glacier. Now what you want to do is install it manually via console. Check my other thread all you need is the flash image and clockworkmod recovery. I myself flashed ClockworkMod 3.0.0.0 as other howoto failed and True's didn't stick.

Go here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916930
And hit on the link to download the cwm 3.xxxx
Once the file is downloaded use root explorer, navigate to /sdcard/downloads/ and find the recovery. Make sure that it shows as .img and not as .zip. if it is a zip then unzip to get the .img file
Select the recovery and change the name to some easier name like f.e cwmrec3 (nnow u will have a cwmrec3.img file).
Move it to /sdcard (root) for ease of method
Open terminal emulator and do
Su (enter) (# will change for $)
flash_image recovery /sdcard cwmrec3.img
Wait for it to go to the next line.
Reboot to recovery and ur text will now be orange. You now haz recovery 3.xxxx
Also, note that if u enter rom manager it will still say that you have cwm 2.xxx that does not matter though as long as ur recovery txt is orange and not green

the fastboot method will work if you have CWM 3.5.1.3 already. I did that this morning, and it worked like a charm.
so I was able to do the easy cw method installing the zip from recovery then choosing 2.5.1.4, but after a few runs with the latest builds of CM7 i was having major issues with my mobile data connection jumping from H to 3G, each time lagging out my connection and making streaming videos, etc impossible to play. So I reflashed to stock, and my H returned to normal. So i thought I'd give it another shot, rooted, downloaded ROM Manager, flashed to 2.5.1.2 smooth, then tried the above method. When I tried to load the 2.5.1.4 in ROM manager, it said "An error occurred while flashing your recovery." So I tried the terminal, and no matter how I rename the file, and I know I followed the instructions flawlessly, it says flash_image: not found. So while ROM Manager seems completely capable of flashing to the 2.5.1.2 version, nothing seems to work to get me past it. What could I be missing?

Is it possible to go from Stock ROM to CyanogenMod via this path:
1. Using Universial Androot to root
2. Install RomManager from the market
3. Install Clockworkmod recovery 3.0.6 from Rom Manager
4. Install CyanogenMod from RomManager
That would be very easy compared to using adb. And it does not require a PC like the various one click root methods.
It should work?
I am asking because these optiions are already in the cyanogenmod wiki (some of them put there by me)
And if it works without problems, it should probably be the recommended update path.
I might try it out myself, but it requires me to go back to stock rom, which I haven't done before. If I understand correctly, it is not possible to flash a 1.6 ROM from a new Clockworkmod recovery, I would have to go back to maverick or amon ra recevery?
I am running Cyanogenmod nb 12, and clockworkmod recovery 3.0.6 at the moment.
to get back to stock rom, you just have to connect your phone to the PC, and double click the .exe of the ROM
I am not using windows, and do not have a rom exe file. I rooted and flashed my phone via adb on linux. I do have a nandroid backup of my stock room after it was rooted though.
Then flash back the old amonra recovery, before restoring your backup because it won t work with the latest clockworkmod

Uhm... I think not: is missing the "insmod tattoo-hack.ko" and it will fail the "remount" operation (and then the flash).

Well, i had a CyanogenMod "installed" on my tatto, and i flashed it back to the stock 1.6 rom without installing anything, without problem.
i guess that's the question, isn't it?
I used the method you're saying, Androot+Flash Recovery from Rom Manager to the latest ClockworkMod and unfortunately it's not working.
I don't know if it is because the new clockworkmod but my advice is don't use this method. I posted some questions in other threads but nobody could help me.
I reflashed Clockwork several times even to 3.0.6, but the startup recovery menu still the same.
I am trying to get the Clockwork 3.0.0.6 update so that i can flash RoyalGinger, but it doesn't seem to be working. I follow each and every step on true_blue's guide, but it stays on Clockwork 3.0.0.5. Can anyone walk me through how to get clockwork 3.0.0.6 please? it will say that it is 3.0.0.5 in rom manager, but as soon as you boot into recovery it should say 3.0.0.6
Are you looking at the list of recoveries at the bottom of Rom Manager? It will still say 3.0.0.5. Check that option then reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery. Does it say v3.0.0.5 or .6?
