[Q] GB Bloat - Droid X General

Now that many of us have the GB leak, I wanted to know what people are doing with the GB bloat. I have autostarts to try and stop the bloat from starting (I'm not sure if it's working on 2.3), but I can't seem to kill things I don't want running. (the stock running apps leaves out things.) Anyone have a suggestion?

You can use root explorer and rename the bloat to .bak or you can use titanium backup and freeze the bloat you don't want, your choice

+1. This is the best practice to start with as deleting certain bloat will cause force closing.

I use a program called "bloat freezer" does what it says and it's cheaper than titanium.

i used titanium back and froze them ...

its funny, i froze bloat and everything worked fine....then i uninstalled the same bloat and my dialer started force closing.....
on fission i could uninstall any bloat i wanted and no problems....you do the math.
needless to say, im back on fission.

Why do apps automatically load?

it's the main reason for the major battery drain (every time there's a significant drain, i open up advanced task killer and notice there are 10+ apps running). i'd like to know what the point in this is? some of these apps are useless, and i can't see why the android would want to load them to make anything run more efficient. so is there an app that lets you choose the apps you want to "disable"?
and is it going to be better when froyo comes out?
if you have root, you can uninstall them
Just cause atk shows an app doesnt mean the app is actually running. This ignorance is precisely why task killers suck.

Get root, get Titanium backup, uninstall.
A program like system panel will show you which apps are actually active (running)

TwLauncher A-Z with JPX firmware HELP

Just flashed with odin up to the latest jpx firmware. I restored all my apps using titanium backup - all 120 of them!! I then went into the twlauncher and deleted the data hoping to get an a to z list but it doesn't work :-(
I do want to keep the twlauncher as i like the samsung Program Control widget which is only available on the twlauncher home screen.
Has anyone figured out how to fix this?
Thanx

Download one of these variants. i9000 TwLauncher does not have alphabetical sorting capabilities.
120 apps? always baffles me. Guessing you don't even use 10% of them! Phone performs a lot better with less apps on it.

Ahh, updated to XXJPY, all good again. I just can't do without the samsung task manager widget, it works really well with no need to add excluded tasks etc.

Home launcher

Anyone know if I can uninstall the stock home launcher after switching over to a better launcher. Even frozen with titanium, stock launcher still starts, sucking up my battery and processor.

Just use titanium backup to delete it once you have the other installed...
Make sure you have a home app... or else it'll hang your phone and you'll be learning how to use rsdlite

I installed launcher pro. That's the best I've liked. Learning rsdlite is no biggie as I had to use it 3 times already when following instructions elsewhere here on removing/freezing motocrap. Thanx for the info.

How do I delete unwanted apps from nook cm7

Just wondering how I can remove messaging, phone, and camera from my girlfriends nook on cm7 running from sd card. I cant find the system apps bookmark like I can on any other phone/tablet

Answer.
To bring that back, you hold on the screen, tap on Launcher Actions, tab Open/close App Drawer, and there you go! Access to your apps, where you can delete them!
Thanks for the answer but I meant delete them permanently from the nook. The phone app just wastes battery and since you cant message and take pics she wants em gone

If you are rooted I would suggest installing TI (Titanium Backup-free) and freeze the app. Sometimes nuking out apps that have interdependency can create problems. Freezing the app in TI should accomplish what you desire safely.
I believe the phone app was proven to not use the battery?
Like cell standby and phone idle under battery use was false.
Oh thanks to the both of you ill do the titanium backup thing but does it remove it from the app drawer?

Gosh. Been a while since I froze an app. I don't believe so. But as it's frozen, unless you have a butt-load of apps and scrolling through them is an issue, it really shouldn't matter. IMO.
Well to me it doesnt matter but my girlfriend is just ocd enough to care lol

My wife is the same way, and was getting irritated that they were in her way. I ended up installing Go Launcher EX and then was able to create a Folder in the App Drawer called SYSAPPS. I put all the unwanted system apps in there and they were out of her way. Cleaned the app drawer up nicely. Not sure if another launcher will do that, but knew Go Launcher could. She likes it now.

Using LauncherPro, you can hide any app you want. Just go
"Preferences->General Settings->Hidden Apps", choose the ones you want to hide, tap "save" and they're out of your way.
No need to go through switching launchers. or creating new catalogs. if you freeze them with titanium backup, they will disappear from the app drawer.
Don't turn off google talk, even if you don't use it. google talk must be working in order for the market to function. some other apps, if they arent installed, will filter the availability of certain apps in the market, although I am not sure if that is effected by freezing or not.
On a side note, I have read the threads about the telephone and message apps supposedly not effecting battery life, and they do spins reasonable, but I an beginning to question if theyv are right. I definitely have processes related to unused phone apsa running on my nook using memory.
The android.telephony process is shown to be running in several running apps lists, and is using 2.3 MBA of ram. I am just starting to wonder, is all...
I use both methods mentioned previously. Organize my app drawer using Go Launcher and freeze, as well as backup apps with Titanium. It's also well worth the money if you like to try different roms or tinker but don't want to loose your apps or their data.

Removing stock apps?

Hello all. I'm on my second G2 now after the first had the phantom touchscreen issues. On the original I ran,a few different roms before realizing -gasp!- that I really liked the original. So I've decided to root, and use titanium backup to remove the stock apps. Which leads me to my question:
Does anyone have a list of which apps are safe to remove? I'm really planning on gutting all the Verizon apps, most of the LG apps, and whatever else crapware it shipped with, but I want to be sure i won't break the os. Thanks!
Ok secondary question Does anyone know how to make the spacebar on the stock keyboard longer? I love it besides the fact I'm constantly hitting the comma button lol. Thanks again!

Hibernate them all with greenify
Sent from my LG-D803 using Tapatalk
Will that be as effective to free up memory and ram as removing them?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Here's a list for Verizon. Hasn't been updated in a while by the looks of it, but it should be a good start.
