Should I stick with Sprint

I am going to be starting a new job soon that gives me a $50 a month credit towards my cell phone bill. I will also have to get off my dad's family plan. So If you were in my shoes would you:
A. Stick with Sprint, and wait for the next badass phone they release, like the Evo 2 or something similar.
B. Find new service provider. I heard Verizon has a very data speeds. I've also heard very good things about T-Mobile.
C. Hang tight with Sprint and jump ship at a later date when service provider releases something badass.
D. Get a iPhone.
I believe I might have to either pay the early termination fee or have to do the Verizon prl hack to get out of the contract with Sprint. I do not believe the area I live in will get 4G anytime soon, so I've given up on it and will be happy with good 3G speeds. Which is why I'm leaning towards Verizon. What do you guys think?

I think Verizon is getting rid of unlimited data. Something to think about

Wait until March 22nd, that's when the next big announcement is. $50 off the cheapest company with unlimited data is not bad (assuming you have good coverage in your area)

Sprint used to be my favorite carrier (fastest data speeds + OG SERO) but I will never recommend Sprint ever again UNTIL they fix their data issues. I'd wait a month or two to see if Sprint is just upgrading or modifying their towers but after that LEAVE.
T-Mo is pretty cheap, has HSPA+, and always gets a ton of great Android phones. HSPA+ coverage while pretty broad is still spotty, but if you can verify that you're area is good to go, I'd suggest that. The LG dual core phone is set to launch and more the next big 4.3" HTC is rumored to be released on T-Mo as well.
Verizon's coverage is king, their 3G data speeds are now much better than Sprints and they are launching LTE 4G. Phone-wise you can't go wrong with them. They have everything. Of course you pay more but it's worth it if you're willing to drop the cash.
AT&T is on the up. Their entire 3G network is now HSPA+ so you're almost guaranteed to get better 3G speeds than Verizon or Sprint (I get 3-5 Mbps). Plus they are launching LTE 4G in the summer. Like Verizon they got a ton phones, they used to suck Android wise but now that their iPhone exclusivity is over they have embraced the platform as seen by the HTC Inspire, and probably the best Android phone on the market, the Atrix. Price wise it's not bad, you can get a Atrix ($200) with 450 minutes and 2GB of data plus use GV for texting and you'll pay only $65/month (or $85 with unlimited texting and mobile to mobile). The 2GB cap sucks but if you don't view a lot of video on the go and got WiFi at home you'll probably never go over.
Personally I'd go with T-Mo with a Nexus S (or wait for something better spec'd) if I was in a good HSPA+ area.

OK so if i was you and you could afford the etf and can afford tmobile or verizon. Go for it. But for now im sticking with spritn

If you are going to leave sprint then your best choice is Verizon. Tmobile and ATT are despicable when it comes to coverage and call quality. I had tmobile for 7 years and had sooo many issues. I highly recommend you stay away from tmobile. I never had att but have heard numerous horror stories about drop calls.
I suggest you wait it out till the end of this month, if sprint doesn't announce anything worthy then just boat to verizon.

if you are gonna go with att or verizon, you might as well bend over and spread your butt cheeks cause thats what att and verizon do to their customer.

The true end of the G1 and MT3G????

Since at&t is buying out T-Mobile, just Google it I'm not posting links, is this the true end of our phones because at&t said all 3G phones will need to be upgraded to support their towers and speed they will provide. In addition what are everyone's thoughts on the matter?? It seems like we'll all min the USA have to buy new phones BC they probably wont do the upgrade for free xD

You don't have to change anything unless ATT drops 2G.

I don't think it will be the end of our phones the 3G upgrades may come over the air or we may have to go old school & actually have to get firmware upgrades in the shop. I don't really think T-Mobile is much slower than At&t, after all, T-Mobile pushed the GSM network in the US, which made everyone else play catch up, since GSM was already in the EU for several years prior. Anyway, as long as we have XDA & the great people giving us Froyo & Gingerbread for our G1/Dreams & MT3G(which we were never meant to have in the 1st place), we will never be too far behind...I hope.

Its not necessarily a software issue because At&t said that themselves that all 3G phones will eventually have to be replaced to handle the new network.. AKA moving everyone to 4G and more expensive plans lol..
If they're going to pay for the upgrades themselves im all fine and for it bring on the new phones for development, and they keep our plans i will be extremely happy!
But if we have to get new phones and new contracts a lot of people will probably drop them. I know i cant get the deal i have now ANY where else for as keep.. Unlimited data, texts and 750 shared mins bt two phones for 100 bucks a month. not bad in my opinion.

I'll get the pyramid if it hits T-Mobile in may like reported by T-Mobile news. Just ride the train and see what happens. If u get robbed bail out. My 2¢ anyway

Agreed, 100%. If the ride is still good, stay on it. If get start getting bad, jump ship.

Read unofficial t-mo news. Front page. Great info and perspective there. U might be able to get a new phone now and run the contract out before it affects u. I'm getting the HTC pyramid and riding this out regardless

I wet into a AT&T store today and there data line for "unlimited" is $45 a month with out tethering it was around $65-$70 with tethering (guys at the store were as helpfull as a bricked phone and didnt tell me much), (i currently pay $40 with tethering) ontop of your standared plans... to get a plan like yours (also mine) would cost us around $150 or more, im just hopin that we will be able to keep our plans how we have them due to the "grandfathering" law, not sure if it is covered from a buy out though...

I got a feeling that the govt isn't going to allow it. There seems to be a lot of media attention lately as to how it will hurt consumers. Mergers like this are not necessarily a done deal.

It is when companies own the Supreme Court.

So I am about to get booted off of my parents plan (college kid) come may. Would it be a smart option to buy a tmobile plan right now hoping that their prices wont increase with the potential merger? I have heard their plans are cheaper..
I am using an unlocked g1 on at&t right now- and I havent had much problem with at&t- I think all cell phones companies are low grade scammers... I do not use any data, just wifi, and probably text 500/month, talk 500/month..

I talked to a few tmobile people and they all say that the plan you currently have will remain the same price IF the merge happens

stick wit tmobile. tmobile will still carry out their prices. the two companies merged. which is great cuz HTC and other phone companies wont have to make exclusive phones for Tmobile etc. it will be available to both companies. so we get benefit of the new phones.

If noticed on alot of 3g and 4g phones are already set up for at&t aswell as t-mobile so im really not seeing a issue with the buy out except maybe a new sim card.

Well actually I started with cingular back like 6 years ago before they were bought by at&t.. And i am still using the same cingular SIM card =) I love it, probably one of the few cingular sim cards left.. so perhaps tmobile peps will keep their tmobile sim cards when the merger is offic.

From what they're saying when the towers get swapped it will be lte service and the current 3g 4g phones won't be compatible. I guess we'll see. All speculation at this point

Welk consider this..
Att phones currentlt work in tmobile and tmobile works on att so with that said if att changes anything they will cause priblems on there own network and phones. I dont for see any problems as ive already said before look in youre APN's you can already choose att or tmobile as a carrier atleast on all my phones

Tmobile sim cards suck I will move to a att one myself. I never had a problem with them but tmobile ive gone through three in less then a year.

With the merger no one needs to upgrade phones. If ppl read tmo's news, at&t pretty much just wants tmo's 4g capable towers and servers. If the merger Goes threw at&t will pretty much be selling world phones (phones that's will support tmos 17 & 21 hundred 3/4g bands and att bands).. all in all they just want the real 4g capable towers tmo has ..
PS ... my 2cents... the merger ain't good for no one.. monopoly ain't good! (Damn bush for reallowing monopolyzation)

Gonna go to SimpleMobile assuming that they don't get effected by the merger. We'll see when that happens. I'm tired of contracts and carrier bull****. I'll always bring my own phones.
I simply won't pay the ridiculous rates Verizon and AT&T charge. I can't stand helping companies that do that to people.
I pay $75 a month on T-Mo (w/ no contract, big plus) including handset protection and taxes, I'd be at about $110+ on Verizon or AT&T. And I'd be in a contract. F that.

Won't do business with Sprint again and absolutely despise AT&T so I guess that means Verizon.

IF the service ends up sucking (which given that they screwed up Cingular when they bought them), then I will switch to Verizon. We will see how this goes, if it even gets approved anyway, but at this point in time Verizon looks to have the better LTE network anyway.

Although the Evo 3D is tempting, I need a physical keyboard. Whoever has a 3D screen, multicore processor and a physical keyboard gets my business.

I don't think after the merger "if" approved our phone will be paper weights I'm not seeing the problem if so I'm sure ugrades and so on will be offered. Most of us on XDA don't even keep our phones for a year so by the time this all happens will be on to the next best dual core device out there. I think with the pressure on the other carriers if this deal is approved we will probably see some good offerings from other companies to solicit our business. I'm sure verizon or sprint would love some tmo customers. Sad to see tmobile go but its the nature of the beast with this economy today were seeing allot of our favorite companies disappear. I've been a tmobile customer for 6+ years and I don't ever recall them being out of the #4 spot. This was bound to happen and I'm almost glad its with at&t then the rumored sprint. I have 5 tmobile phone lines on family plan all I can do is wait and see and make the best choice when its done for my money. I'm actually looking forward to better coverage and more phone choices.

Same. AT&T's CEO said that they are "looking into" keeping the no-contract plans. Which means that they probably won't lol.
If I can stay on my $59.99 plan with no contract, and the service isn't complete abysmal, I'll stay with AT&T. If not, I guess I'll check my other options. Because I completely despise AT&T (as well as Verizon, boo CDMA) I really don't think I'd stay with them unless they can grandfather me in, which I don't think they'll do because they're not contractually obligated to offer me anything.

Simple Mobiles uses TMO's 3G towers. The same towers ATT wants to build their 4G on. Which means no more 3G towers.

Who says simple mobile won't be paying att for the towers?

if the deal goes through,and the customer service starts going to **** like at&t is known for and pricing starts rising im outta here,will def look into sprint cuz there prices are good as well as there coverage,and they got some pretty nice phones right now(evo 4g,epic 4g,evo shift) so im guessing in a year they will have better faster phones all with FFC and dual-cores....hopefully

I would love to leave right now because I'm honestly just pissed off at T-Mobile as a company (I know that DT did it, but it's a branch of them) and I don't want to give them anymore business, but, I don't have the luxury of paying $1000 to pay the ETF fees on the account.
I'll be pretty screwed if AT&T doesn't nullify contracts and let people leave.

Most likely Sprint. They're currently the closest to T-Mobile in pricing and unlimited data. Plus it looks like Sprint and Google are gonna be working more closely with the full integration of Google Voice and Google building their new gigabit broadband network in Sprint's backyard.

I'm going to have to go with Sprint as well. Even though their coverage where I am at isn't the greatest, they're the only other company that can get close to the rate plans that Tmobile offers.
Also: bugger paying $30/mo for a a data plan that I LITERALLY MUST PURCHASE TO ACTIVATE THE DEVICE even though Verizon has no 3g or 4g coverage in my area. God forbid I actually utilize a smartphone as a cellphone by turning off my data connection whenever possible. I already do this on Tmobile as they have zero 3g coverage in my zone and will likely continue doing it into the future.
Telecoms in the US are holding the consumer over a burning cauldron of oil and splitting them in half in the name of "good customer service." This unmitigated greed will not be stopped by those who are charged with protecting the populace from the foibles of big business.
Edit 2: Okay so I've done comparative pricing between my current Tmobile plan and a rough equivalent on ATT. All in all I would be paying an additional $6 dollars before tax and fees for 50 less minutes and no insurance on my device. The fact that unlimited texts cost $20/month is absolutely absurd as lets face it, that calculates out to something like just over a grand per MB of data transferred
In short: Go set your head on fire ATT. I will remove myself from the 21st century and forgo the conveniences of smartphones if it means giving you any of my money. I'll live in a box under a bridge enjoying sprint band coverage on virgin mobile for $25/month with unlimited text data and 300 talk minutes.

Simplemobile maybe a good alternative but I'm holding out for the LG phone which is supposedly going to work with at&t 3g signal as well T mobiles. Also my main concern is how Android friendly at&t will be since they are still committed primary to the iphone?

i intend to find out if the gov't approves, then i am going to upgrade all 3 phones on my plan, and lock in my plan for 3+ years, even if ATT acquires Tmo, they will have to honor all the existing contracts for at least a few years, that we we can see the prices level out with only 3 "large" carriers...I would have to pay 75+ more dollars for a comparable plan to my tmo plan on ATT, and thats just nuts, to step down on the customer support and network quality is just crazy, but in a way since all us tmo people have good service, i see that the added towers to ATT's network will improve it for everyone, and thats why ATT wants Tmo, a 'cheap' way to 4g, not to mention the spectrum space.

Sprint for sure my parents just switched from ATT after 7 years to sprint cause I pushed them to do it, and I'm waiting for the evo 3d to come out so I can make my move.

If the merger goes through, then yes. I have been a tmobile customer for 7 years. I have been satisfied with the hardware, the accounts, and even the customer support. Especially the customer support.
AT&T want a stellar company before the SBC buyout, but it became terrible after. I expect the same thing if Tmobile is consumed.
I do not look forward to finding a new carrier.

I don't think I'll leave TMO unless AT&T acquires it and doesn't let me keep my current plan and pricing. I travel accross USA and do not have a voice coverage problem with Tmobile. Its excellent with few to none dropped calls. But the data sucks, my phone switches to edge 80% of the time as compared to my co workers AT&T and Sprint.
Not to mention I pay less than $160 for 2 lines with unlimited everything.... The next cheapest is sprint @ $210

If the buyout goes through, absolutely leaving. I will never be an AT&T customer again, even if it means taking my Vibrant over to Simple Mobile.

I'll be leaving as well. As far as when, that depends on when the merger goes through and who gets the SGSII. One things for sure, I'll NEVER use AT&T again.

I agree with most the other comments....... I pay 152 per month for 2 lines unlimited everything......... and I use it............ When and IF ATT does get T-mobile. . . then I will have to find a new carrier, I really like TMO but tempus fugit......
As far as the customer loss I do not see that as a real big issue, if I remember correctly, the average for all the major carriers is between 6-8 million per carrier per year or as it is called in the industry the "churn"

any other provider sounds better then att. i would gladly switch to boost with an unlocked android. or even metropcs has got a few good androids to date. att is making a losing bet unless they all of a sudden change their pricing plans.

If you knew T-Mobile coverage was bad in your area perhaps you should have started out with a different carrier in the first place. Here in Dallas I get 3G or H almost everywhere.

Add me to the list of people who will leave T-Mobile the day AT&T goes through. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen.

Hi idiot.
I did. No one else had coverage but t-mobile thanks to voice roaming, but at&t put a New 3g tower up so now they have everything. I went from at&t to sprint before t-mobile.

And traveling with a t-mobile phone is a lesson in frustration compared to at&t other Verizon.

Don't care where you live and how your signal is, tbh. even at the hspa+ market down the interstate your phone can go from full 3g to edge at any random time.
T-mobile are not defendable, so stop ****ing trying Even with good phones and low prices people are leaving, and for a reason. They aren't spending more just cause they can... There are sizeable cities here that can't get more than 3 bars gprs from t-mobile here, but the other three carriers have full 3g

I've been a T-Mobile customer for almost 5 years. Up until I transferred to the college in this town now, my 3G data service has been great. Im actually so unhappy w/ T-Mobile..Right now i live in Huntsville,TX where I goto college at and T-Mobile is beyond garbage here. Personally, If I'm going to pay the same amount of money as someone who has 3G/4G coverage, i have to have to have the same equal coverage. I'm back and fourth on GPRS and Edge here missing important calls like clockwork. I can get a similar plan with AT&T for the same amount with 4G service here in this town. (Trust me i work for Radioshack and I know all about both companies plans and prices as well as restrictions) When the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes out this summer for AT&T, I'm leaving T-Mobile to give AT&T my money instead. I'm not handing over my whole pay check for a Verizon phone LOL and I'm not going to Sprint with their 3G coverage map looking like a pepperoni pizza LOL
For the most part, T-Mobile has been beyond great as far as customer serviceand pricing, its just that voice and 3G data coverage is, always, and forever will be their weakness and that doesn't work for me.

so i was thinking.. my evo is almost ready for an upgrade, but now i have the choice to switch networks.. this is my only phone with sprint, i choose sprint, because it was my first cell phone i paid for on my own, but i just dont know if i should switch to T-mobile, when they have unlimited everything for 50$.. compared to sprints 80.. yea i know T-mobile caps(well slows down at 2Gigs i believe) your data but i dont really use phones net works i use mainly wifi and from what ive seen t-mobile gets more 4g in my area.. i just dont know, what is your guys opinion, with phones, network, cost, data, overall satisfaction

I actually disagree with everyone. If you have great coverage and 4g then go with T-Mobile. You'll get overall cheaper prices. T-Mobile has unlimited but they lower your speed down once you hit 2 gigs. I'm guessing that devs for T-Mobile phones have developed a way around it anyway. The only thing you probly won't like is customer service. Its not horrible but sprint is deff. Better.
And also you should wait for the new HTC one phones to come

T-Mobile
I have had sprint and t-mobile and i liked t-mobile better, even doe they do the same as sprint when it comes to the bill but, they have good service. even doe I'm loving Metro right now, I'm free.

I came from t-mobile to sprint. both were/are great carriers. i live in a town where 4g is nonexistent on the sprint network and t-mobile has it. im sticking with sprint though. great phones, decent experiences with cust. service, solid data, and the simply everything plan means what it says.

Same here when I was on t-mobile I loved it as well. The only reason why I even switched carriers was because I wanted the Evo 4G.. But honestly if I could go back in time I would have stayed with T-Mobile I miss being able to try out different phones just by popping in my sim card haha

i'll say sprint i like there service and phones lol i was thinking bout going to t-mobile but i dont like what they have to offer with there phones sprint is better

If you don't use your data all that much, have good service, its cheaper, and if you can get a phone that you like on it, then go with T-Mobile.
I don't understand why everyone hates sprints data speeds. It takes a few seconds to bring up a web page, and only a few minutes max to download a big application or document. I'm perfectly happy with the speeds.

Sprint for sure dude. Don't upgrade until the LTE phones start rolling out, though. Once LTE starts rolling out, Sprint will be one of the best companies . T-Mobile is merging with at&t anyways and at&t sucks.

At least around here, T-mobile service is crap. You get more then 2-3 miles outside of a city, and you be lucky to make a phone call let alone get any data connection.

I find that you get what you pay for. I did have T-Mobile a couple years ago and jumped ship when I heard that AT&T planned on buying them out. The customer service if far better with Sprint but service is a little more expensive. T-Mobile's tech department is horrible compared to Sprint. The tech staff at the Sprint Stores are awesome. The don't care if your device has root ( most of their personal devices are), they will still assist you if you need the help.
Overall I would go with Sprint if you want good coverage and tech support. If all you care about is the price then T-Mobile is the way to go.

Depends on where ur located....for me and everyone in this area 4g has been up working since day one so sprint was the best option. I've been watching the price wars among the companies and everyones trying to match sprint but ones really close....I'd wait til at least June for the status of the new LTE network before I'd decide......remember you'll be stuck with what cha choice....LOL....
