Xoom screen variance.. - Xoom General

I've got 3 Xooms and I'm a bit disappointed with the contrast, and color saturation with two of them.
The two with the muted colors have an AU Optronics B101EW4 V.0
The screen with the vibrant colors and much better contrast ratio is a mystery screen.
I really wish the other 2 Xoom's we have had the more vibrant screen..
Any ideas on where I can source or ID the panel?

How do you find out if it's AU Optronics?
Does dmesg in term emulator tell you anything?

Great call..
dmesg on the unit w/ better contrast and more color saturation= lcd_manfid=SHP
dmesg on the other unit = lcd_manfid=AUO

I'm assuming shp means sharp. Mine has the shp

I'm quite surprised there are two different manufacturers...!

I'm not. There was the same issue with the mytouch 4g. Two different screens were used. One made by Sony and one made by sharp. The sharp panel appeared way more washed out then the Sony panel. If you just search mytouch 4g bad display vs good display you'll see what I mean.
While a lot of people deemed the sharp panel "bad" its not that its bad just not as the Sony panel

there's another thread about possible multiple mfg of the screen. this is just the first confirmation. the high contrast saturation screen also has bad bleed.

On my PC using the Android SDK
C:\adb shell
$dmesg
If you're using command in windows, make sure and set the buffer to at least 300 lines or you will miss it.
You can also use DDMS.. Select Device --> Dump Device State (Toolbar menu). This will dump the state of your device to a file, you can then search for the aforementioned text.

So since you have both screens.. which do you prefer? I too have the shp screen and noticed the bleed around the edges and was wondering if it was just my unit or if that's how it should be
So in your opinion which screen is "better" than then other?

I don't think its a Tiamat issue; I read on another forum that someone suggested if you're getting all those errors (with no LCD line showing up) to simply reboot and run again. I did this, and got a drastically different output, and it in fact included the LCD line. Give that a try, should probably get your where you want to be.

I like the SHP screen better.. it does however, have the same bleeding around the edges that you described.
The bleeding can be decreased by making sure the border on the front of the LCD panel (made of an adhesive tape) is adhering properly, but that involves taking the unit apart...
The AUO panel has little to no bleed, but the colors are not as vibrant and the contrast looks better on the SHP screen.
Also, for what it's worth.. this is what my SHP screen looked like with a black background

mine:
unit = lcd_manfid=AUO

Could any Wi-Fi model user report their panel type? Thanks.

[Q] Pixel Quality? Error?

So quick question XDA. I noticed on my HD2 running FroyoStone 3.2 the pixel quality is bad...I wouldn't even say "pixel" cause its just the textures on some things. I took a screenshot of my phone to show you what im talking about but it showed up better quality then it actually is... Confusing right? Well take a look.

This is what I see, Notice how the shading or the black part behind where it says "Speak now" is really bad quality.
Thats not the only thing that has bad quality. When I receive picture messages all the pictures are really bad quality. Also the pictures set for each one my contacts are bad quality. Is this something I can fix? Please and thank you.
If you really see what we can see on the pictures, then a a fix is available.
You only have to wear your glasses
The pictures are really bad. Maybe you should take a look in the manual of the camera and search for "focus" or "autofocus"

Compare the two images. The first one is what i see on my phone when i use it. The second picture is what it should look like.
Also I took the first picture with my moms phone, i sent it to my HD2 without changing the file size. When I received it on my phone it was sent as a 4 KB file and which is a really small size. It does this to EVERY picture I receive. Yet its only when im running android (FroyoStone 3.2)

I think I worked out what you're saying OP. I just checked mine and it's exactly the same. It's probably due to the 65k colour screen as opposed to 16million colour screens most phones have these days. It's nothing to worry about.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's what we think. I don't think anybody has been able to prove/disprove that the HD2's screen is only capable of 65k colors; it could just be a WM limitation, and the devs have yet to 'unlock' the 16mil colors using Android. (Of course, I could be wrong, but like I said there's no proof.)
The problem is the color gradient -- it's easy to detect the low quality of the images due to the gray gradient.
Concerning the MMS sizing, I think I encountered a fix for that, but I haven't tried it. I can't help you look for it now because the sub-forum search is down.

[Q] HD2 Color Depth under Android

Under WP6.5 they tell about 65k color depth - okay, I don't mind anymore
But: is this the WP limit and or hardware based.
I ask because under Android (MIUI) sometimes I see color artifacts at pictures wich I dont have at the same picture on my pc.
So what do we get from this fabulous phone?
The color depth is hardware based.

Thanks - and is it the 65k or more?
I've heard the screen supports 16M colours, n_hoss once posted a link to tech specs (I believe 't was on the official HTC site). The crappy colour gradients are quite eye-catching imo, so I'm definitely down for an upgrade!
im sure n_hoss only posted that our screen was capable of 262k? Please correct me if im wrong

Quadrant shows I got single core?

Firstly i got a brand new GS2!
Well I ran the quadrant test just for fun. But when i saw my device info it showed that i got only 1 core?? i got a wired feeling that i have been cheated !!
So just to confirm i am asking whether the quadrant is showing proper results..
Also i cannot find the hardware specs info from settings in the app drawer. Is their a way to see it? also how to confirm i got super amoled plus display lol??
thanx a lot!! loving this piece of beauty.
P.S. cannot see yellow tint by naked eye though :-D
It was same with me for the first time launching program. After the first test, I ran a second one and after that quadrant started to show 2 cores. Check it yourself.
You must have gotten one of the ones with the infuse processor. Read where there was a swap on accident.

Just a software detection issue, I believe quadrant also runs on a single core only as of now.
I had the same but checking it again is says 2 cores now, haha it would be horrible to find out you only have 1 core :L
sheez lol!! i had an heart attack.

by the way how to check if i have super amoled display? Heheh
Guys and Gals...
There is a VERY easy way to get Quadrant to show you have 2 cores....
Upon entering Quadrant immediately hit the system info button and it will ALWAYS display 2 cores
Quadrant is NOT well optimized for Dual core phones. So doesn't matter it shows 1 core or half.

Got a new SGS2 and noticed a few things

Hi guys,
I just sold my "old" SGS2 which I bought on the second or third week of launch of the international version and got a new one. Here are some of the things that I've noticed:
1. Red spot on white background picture while using the camera is GONE. I thought this was a software problem before but I guess it must have been hardware related. Flashed two different roms now including the stock one and still no red spot.
2. Yellow stain on the lower portion of the notification bar is gone. Color is even with no hint of the yellow stain that plagued earlier versions of the unit.
3. Color of the screen is noticeably darker. You wont be able to notice this most of the time but on apps like dialer one wherein the default background color is gray, you can really see a huge difference. Darker but not less brighter, I don't know how to describe it but you can really tell the difference.
4. Capacitive button lights are much dimmer. I tried them on different kernels and roms and they're still dimmer. Not a dealbreaker though.
Overall I am very pleased that Samsung quietly addressed these manufacturing issues
*edit* actually I'm not sure if I was just lucky or they really fixed it
Concerning the screen, you just got lucky. The yellow tint is still here on new batches. One thing I noticed however, is that the two new units I used, had no processor usage interference when headphones were used. Did they add proper shielding or was I lucky as well?
Actually I think I spoke a little too soon. Apparently the white's and the grays are my screen are a lil darker than usual and a little to the shade of purple. Some people have it as well. My white's are not as white as before but when i turn the brightness up it turns into a pretty good shade of white. But my grays are definitely more purple.
Oh well
Every sgs2 is unique, i like to think (so i don't get annoyed by it) that every sgs2 is a piece of hand-made craftsmanship.
Noticed the darker colours on my friends new SGS2 also. .
