Claims of WP7 from Tom_Codon march 2010

Well were coming up to to the month milestone of when Tom dropped the news of having WP7 running on his HD2.
I know I will get flamed for this, but I am niave and a part of me still despite no real proof being given, is hoping.
It would be great if we got some news/proof at the end of this month.

that's plenty of proof in my book imho

please people, let it go....nobody was gonna get wp7 on the hd2 before the news and so there is no difference if it was all a lie...
that said, i do belive in it, reputable people have said its true. just enjoy the damn device and when wp7 comes, it will come, and i would like to see a thread with all the non belivers apologising

I know some good reputable ppl have clearly stated that its true. I am not doubting them for a minute. I personally expected to hear or see something else since the initial statement. I do enjoy my device, I just love trying new things.
The conversation surrounding this, had died a little lately, so I thought I would spark up some more interesting conversation/debate.

But thats just it, how can you EXPECT something from somebody when they dont owe you anything? you can expect customer service from HTC, or expect an official statement from HTC about wp7 (which we got), but you cant expect news about someones personal project...you arent paying them, they are doing it out the kindness of the heart and the passion they have for this phone...
well thats my opinion for example...i fix my friend's and family's computers from time to time for no charge. nobody can expect me to fix it in any reasonable time frame, nor even even expect it to be fixed at all, even if i say i can. if they do, then its really unnappretiative and its quite hurtful. alot of people did ***** about the videos of wp7 on the hd2, if it was me, i wouldnt even bother giving it to anyone, just on the fact that so many people grinded me down about it.

I know that there is written record of da_g saying that. Is there one for Chainfire also? I thought that was just an unrecorded chat.

I think you have mis-interpreted my use of the the word "Expected" by this I meant "Hoped" or "Thought"
I do agree with you though, they don't owe us anything, and after the slagging off that some guys gave them, I would say F off to everyone.

ah ok, well yeh one can hope for it, thats all good! even i hope for it! well actually i dunno, when they said wp6 and wm6.5 isnt interchangeable made me decide not to go with wp7. but still, id love to see it! but even if they lied (which i keep stressing i dont think they are!), i wouldnt think less of them, none of us are really gettin affected and we have got alot from them anyway with wm6.5

yeah I asked him last week in a podcast he visited on ppcgeeks...said a lot including a test rom for tg01 which also makes a lot of sense. I've said on htcpedia that I wouldn't be surprised the devices we see in the fall are very similar to devices released LAST year with minor improvements in hardware (if that)
If the htc touch hd2 and the g01 were the true test devices that wp7 was based on, then as a developer I'd just go hey why do I need to make a new device? Use the old internals and I have a wp7 device. I think for early devices that's what is going to happen but again that's just my speculation on htc and toshiba. Dell et al probably have devices built from the ground up...
I mean I want to try wp7 too and its looking better and more fluid every single day that gives me hope that microsoft has made a better "coded" os that when unlocked will actually be more open than the devices we have right now. To get to that point will take time, but that's what xda is for. I mean zune hd is hacked, I expect wp7 to be hacked too. just depends on time and devices

hoping this conversation remains civil because so far no flames no claims of it was publicity and I said on htcpedia again why does a site like that need publicity it averages in US daytime 250 members per hour! late night 125! a site like that doesn't need real advertising.
We can't say its an april fool either that's come and gone. so the only other logical outcome is that it exists there are some issues (lo and behold tom said there were graphics issues)
so I am waiting enjoying wp 6.5

Does anyone actually know Tom or Da_G or ITJE? Could they ask them for an update? Anything is better than nothing.

I asked Itje a while ago, he doesn't know anything and told me that it is all up to tom and his team.

I just don't see the draw towards WM7. I stopped using the iPhone because the locked down environment... even after jailbreaking. WM6.5 w/ Sense is the BEST OS and GUI that I've used on a phone. It has usability elements while retaining the functionality of WM. It seems to me that M$ is moving backwards.

Sure, WP7 is locked down OS with many disadvantages, I agree with that!
BUT it brings lots of new features and its going to have full flash support etc.

Sincerely, I'm not understanding why tom_codon gave the news of WP7 on HD2.
I mean... okay, WP7 HD2 ROM does exist, noone apart tom_codon and some other people has got it, but why are you saying to all that it does exist if you can't/don't want to release it?
It's not so mature and smart in a community where all is shared and that lives on the ROM sharing to say "I've got WP7! But you won't get it! Hah!!"........ am I wrong?

Yes it's cracked but there's a catch!
Yes it is confirmed that it is possible to bypass it, however it requires an activation key to be dumped from an already live WP7 handset.
The Caveat to this is that each key can only be used a limited number of times - 3 apparently, and if its used more than this amount of times all devices assigned to the key will lose the ability to access live services.
So seems there's still some work to be done before a viable solution is found..

I really doubt jailbreaking/rooting is illegal anywhere, voids you warranty yes, but far from illegal.

Now in U.S. law, jaibbreaking is not technically illegal. (What other countries' laws are would have to be researched by those concerned.) But, it seems that bypassing Microsoft's cloud security is another issue altogether. From a legal (not technical) point of view, it appears to be similar to hacking a version of Microsoft's Windows operating systems to appear as though it had been activated so that it can download security patches and other Microsoft software. The flashing of a new ROM on a phone itself in terms of Windows Mobile has been a gray issue with Microsoft. It is certainly hoped that flashing a WP7 ROM onto the HD2 would fall under this gray area, but cloud verification is the fly in the ointment, I assume.
At any rate, the current method of bypassing Microsoft's cloud security is not a feasible solution for the common variety of XDA-Developers flashers, as pointed out in this link in one of the above posts.
Our discussions here seem to be nothing more than academic at this point.

JBing isnt illegal in majority of places, US was an exception until now.

You sure are right in that. I can put a computer together from scratch, but the idea of doing anything with JTAG sends me running to the hills with fear.

Why is HTC protecting wildfire so much

After the release of the wildfire it took a unusual amount of time to root and now the hboot has been changed to prevent rooting I ask the question why the consumer should have the right to run roms that suits them best I refer to geohotz jailbreak with the iPhone

yeah i agree, they want to sell you newer devices with new android versions. they must also be pretty mad about the hacked app markets

Its the solemn duty p) of a company to protect its products. No product I believe has a weak security system, and, its always a cat and mouse game between the devs and the company devs. Be it iOS, Symbian, Game Consoles.. etc.
No one likes to see their product "hacked" and to be used in a manner better than it was intended to.

As far as I know the Nokia N900 and LiMo devices are very open to hacking, very much unlike Android, webOS and iOS phones.

Why would anyone protect their properties

Also maybe cos they were planning for Gingerbread release on the Wildfire, and by then they want all devices to be hackproof or something.. jus maybe..

I'll give you a reason.. It's because their support teams couldn't cope with the amount of idiots they'd get phoning them saying that their phone wasn't working anymore after they'd made a complete bodge of modding it.. Just like the guy above said..

But if they wouldn't lock the wildfire, the chance of getting your device bricked will be lower in my oppinion. The chance that a procedure fails is directly correlated with the amount of steps, and just because the phone is that locked, people have to do 1. a multitude of steps that 2. don't use software of the phone in the way its develloped to be used -> chance to brick your phone.
Compare it to a computer: ever bricked it because you wanted to install an new OS?

Don't wait after DFT, they were working on lot of phones: Now we have no news of them.
I don't like very much the way they work: all closed source, no eta.
However we can thanks them for all they were doing for us, at the beginning. But now I must admit I'm a little disappointed
Yuki is working with community and to my mind, this way is much better.

Do you honestly expect them to put in the time and effort into unlocking all currently released devices?
If so, I certainly hope you never start a business, because you'll have some serious financial trouble with that kind of thinking.
Last time I checked, businesses/companies/corporations are in business to make money, not spend money by releasing a product and then having to go right back and waste more time/resources overhauling them again.
Patching **** that doesn't work right is one thing... as a corporation/business, you're expected to have a working product, otherwise no-one is going to buy your ****, but adding new features to something you've already released is much much more of a cost sink.

Also, HTC has already come out and said that they will unlock their bootloaders on future phones.... They already got the message. I believe if the 3D wasn't already in production and the OG's GB update not finalized, both would have been unlocked. There's no need to spam the CEO's inbox asking them what they have already answered
