[Q] gps doesn't work - HD Mini General

i don't know how this happened.
i did run android but after that i removed it and i installed a standard rom from the htc support site.
can it be that it's still affected by android or is this something else?
my hd mini says that he can find the internal gps receiver but can't find the satellites.
i got the program port on com 4, the hardware port off and the rate on 4800, so did i used the wrong port or wrong settings.
b.t.w. when i start up my phone it says tctrayapp.exe can not be opened. i don't know if that is necessary information,

try removing the sd card, format it,install the ROM again (better without the sd card in phone)
there are still some settings on card from android which doesnt let windows mobile to find satellites, this is a known problem...

i did formatted the sd card after i removed android but is it necessary to do it also with the overwriting program that i also needed to use before the android ROM.
thank you for your help

hmmm, then put on card android again, enable gps(instructions in my link),test on WM,and after u can delete android if u dont want it

i don't think that's the problem i formatted the sd and i did a hard reset and installed a new rom so i think it should be out of the system already.
i dont know if the settings of the ports depends if it's working or not or that tctrayapp what i mentioned before?

well...as i said this is a known issue, many had this problem and they solved it doing what i said above..if you know better then do it your way and don't ask us!

TomTom Navigator 2.24 with Jeff's WM2003?

I am holding of on updating my o2 XDA to the Windows Mobile 2003 version from Jeff's Kitchen, because I want to make sure I can keep using my main application: TomTom Navigator.
According to tomtom.com, version 2.24 should work with Windows Mobile 2003. Has anyone verified this with the 4.00.05 from Jeff's Kitchen?
As the maps are of course stored on an SD card, will it be safe to use TomTom with WM2003 due to the "erase card" issue?
Thanks!
well if you have a SD flash reader for your pc you could always backup the maps before trying
if you dont have a flash reader for your pc and would like one
they come in external versions
http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/sixinone.asp
and internal versions
http://www.apacer.com/apacer_english/product_html/embedded_card_reader20.asp
since your sd cards could get flushed down the toilet and i'm sure a empty flash card would be less expensive then a sd card with maps on
it would be a good thing to back them up no matter what
Yes it will work since I've used all the 4.x ROMs and the first things which get installed is Tomtom 2.24!
It works perfectly!
And you can update your ROM without losing the info on your SD card. So after the ROM update you only have to install the tomtom software and it will find the map(s) on your SD card automatically.
About the erase bug: I never experienced it with any of the 4.x ROMs. So no info about that.
works fine on 4.00.01 update

You could use the lock switch on the SD-card too...
Yes, I thought of that, but:
- I figured that maybe TomTom needs to write to the SD as well (save some settings in or around map data)
- As the switch is merely a software thing as far as I know (a device "should not write" to the card when the switch is on), I wonder if a faulty ROM is still able to erase the card
@autora13:
i does work perfectly? hmmm. i use 4.00.01 and tomtom 2.24 but have the following problem:
when i start it it always says: "gps position unreliable" or something in that kind. but the sat signal is ok. i have to go to "card view" and not "navigator view" to make it work so it can find your position. then i go back to "navigator view" and i works flawlessly.
any idea?
regards ize|man
Never had that problem, sorry...
me neither mine works fine as it always has done just like on ppc2002
I am using the old 2003 version that was on her about 6 weeks ago, I have a "slippery" version of tomtom v2 and that works fine on my XDA i just removed the sd card with the maps on it, upgraded to 2003 then reinstalled my v2 put back in the SD card and thats it. It all works as it did befor

Could you please let me know where i can find the crack you mentioned as i only have the crack for V2.01 and not V2.24

TT 5.2 WM5

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&FID=3361
Interesting that it says:
"TomTom NAVIGATOR is now compatible with Microsoft Windows™ MOBILE 5.0 devices. See the compatibility list for more information."
And when you go to the list there are no WM5 devices in there
...but it works
btw, you don't need to have TT 5 already installed on the system ...just install this verison (5.21) and create a "Voices" directory with your voices files in the root of the ppc ...that's all

Does that mean you have to register this update with TomTom to prove you're a legitimate user? I guess so.
Still waiting for an official (tested and accepted ) update before I upgrade my legit v3 to a legit v5. (Currently running a cracked version cos I'm not happy that TT5 is working properly on WM5, or even that TT5 is the best solution any more  )

I have it on \Voices ...dunno if it works on the SD too
So what is different about this version. Or should I say what is fixed in this version? Does it keep the screen in the current screen mode (i.e. VGA or does it reset the screen to it's own bidged semi VGA size).

OK this is strange and i need some help....
i installed the app in my sd card...
i made the "Voices" folder in the root of the ppc...
and i runed the app BUT (this is the strange part)...
i am still in the preferences screen as after i press the screen to choose a preference i can only get to the next step by pressing the button with the red telephone and then maximizing the app again from spb. the moment i press the red button i can see tom tom proceeing to the next screen and then the app minimizes.
any ideas on this?
thanx
So it's not all good news then. Does this mean that TomTom's 5.2 release isn't quite ready for WM5 after all? Can anybody comment on differences in performance between 5.1 and 5.2? Does the screen still redraw slowly?
well it might be my mistake or something but...
so what about the rest of you? has anybody tested it? how did you installed it?
I did a full install on to the Exec, direct from the TT site download. I had hard reset the phone first, yes you do need to add a voices folder in the root of the SD card, but otherwise it all works fine - you can use the data.chk file from 5,1 if you like the real voice warnings, the only thing you can't use is the POIExtend software (yet) Mike
Downloaded the zip file from TT site unzipped it and ran it, it uninstalled Ver 5.1 for me the reinstalled 5.2 somewhere along the way it requested a soft boot.
It all appears to function. However I have not had chance to test it in anger.
I previously had TTNav 5.1 (plus maps, voices, POIs) installed and running succesfully from SD-card.
Installed v.5.21 update, which said it would remove the previous version whilst installing and gave me a choice of location for only one of the .CABs. Afterwards I discovered 4MB of main/device storage had gone missing, so checked and found that the new version had now installed itself into device storage and the old version 5.1 was still in SD-Card. Upon checking the registry I found all the entries still pointed to the old version in SD-card. Tried installing again, same result. Uninstalled and installed again, same result.
Decided "what the hell", moved all the new version files to the SD-card locations, modified the program menu shortcut to start TTN from SD-card, removed their "stupid" Today-plug-in, and fired it up. Now working again from SD-card, and have 4MB of device storage back!
As mentioned before, I feel TomTom have totally lost their way roll with PDA navigation. TTNav5 is just a bodge on their stand-alone TT-Go product code to get it more or less to run on a PDA.
I think it's been observed elsewhere that Tomtom seem to be writing a standard application that will work across all their supported platforms. This is cheaper and easier to support but is frustrating for power users.
I am now using Navigator 5 in addition to Mapopolis, and I find the delay in connecting to my Bluetooth GPS (GlobalSat BT338) very annoying. There is nowhere to specify baud rate and I am sure that Tomtom every time is scanning the range to find the GPS, it takes so long.
This makes TT fairly idiot-proof and user-friendly, but at the expense of the more technically minded. Of course, supporting technical options ties it closer to the particular operating system, which is probably what they are trying to avoid doing...
Hi all,..
when I use the update from the TT website, and installed it is asks vor an registration code, the activation code...
does anyone alse have this problem?

No connection with internal GPS

Hi
During my holidays the internal gps stopped working on my Touch HD. I was using Duttys 6.5 R5 at that time. I noticed this when I wanted to start a tool called GPSed again after some days of not using it (before that, it worked fine and never had problems with connecting or synchronizing). Any tool that use the GPS was not able to connect to the GPS anymore. I tried soft resetting and a hard resetting the phone. All the different programs were able to connect and lock to a GPS signal pretty fast without any problem before.
Now I'm on Duttys 6.5 Leo 2 (flashed the phone yesterday) and there's still no sign of life from the internal GPS. I've used a number of programs to check (GPS Test, HTC GPS tool, google maps, tomtom) to see if any of these programs was able to connect. Non of the programs is able to connect via any com ports (com0 to com9).
Has anybody experienced or heard about similar problems where the internal GPS module just died?
Before I give up and assume that the GPS hardware module is simply broken, is there any way that I can check if the interal GPS is enabled/disabled (for as far as this is possible) or check if it is broken or not?
I've been googling like crazy, but so far I found no solution/advice.
Please advise!
[UPDATE]: I solved the problem by installing Duttys 6.5 Leo 3
Have you downloaded latest data using QuickGPS?
I had a similar problem with GPS on my touch HD. I didn't do a hard reset but I did do a soft reset which did not fix the problem. I used the HTC GPS tool to do a cold start of the GPS and this fixed it.
Hello, i had a similar problem after installing WM6 voip.
I read some post and i found that the problem was with dnsapi.dll in the direcory windows. Try to search in the forum.
I solved renaming this file in dnsapi_old.dll, you can try...after that reboot. If it does not work you can rename again and return to the initial state.

This I will have to look into. I have not installed any voip application, and I believe that Dutty also has not inserted any VOIP tool in the ROM that I used. With File Explorer on the phone I'm not able to find the dll file under \Windows\ (That's were it should be, isn't it?). Is it a hidden file?
It's good to know that some of you have had similar problems. That gives me a little bit of hope that I can get this fixed. Maybe I should flash my phone again but this time using a WM6.1 ROM.
Yes, dnsapi.dll is an hidden file you can see it with resco file explorer.
I don't know if your is the same problem...bat if you find the file you can try.

TomTom not working - crashes and reboots

I've used a fair few of this version: 7.918.9193 VGA and for each of them it installs ok but when using the program it will crash and reboot the phone anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes in.
I've deleted the Navigator folders before the next install and yet it still it crashes!
Any ideas? I only bought the phone cos I love TomTom! I'd be happy with an earlier version if needs be - I only need traffic and speed cams (which I have a subscription to) and I've called TomTom support so when I have the program stable I can hook them up through TomTom home.
Desperate for help here!
Cheers,
Joe
First of all what ROM & RADIO are you using? What other software is installed? It may be unlikely that these are the causes, but you never know.
Is TT7 installed on the phone or the SD card?
Have you ever had it running without a problem?
Have you tried redownloading TT7 from another source?
Have you tried a hard reset and then installing TT7?
Have you tried earlier versions of TT7 (ie 916 and the 917)?
Hi,
I've replied to the questions in line below in case it yields any ideas.
Two things also I'm wondering is:
1. Is it best to have it installed on main memory or SD?
2. I hear a lot about the quality and speed of SD card affecting the lag/performance of TT. What's the recommended size/speed/brand for an SD?
Cheers,
Joe

What other software is installed? It may be unlikely that these are the causes, but you never know. - Nothing at all, fresh flash
Is TT7 installed on the phone or the SD card? - Currently on SD card, but have had it on both.
Have you ever had it running without a problem? - Yes, temporarily yesterday (I only got the phone yesterday). I flashed with the above, installed TT, got my maps working (I've transferred them from my old Xperia X1) then tried tweaking the bif files and read only flags on it to make my traffic/cams subscription work - possible point of failure here but this technique worked well on the old versions of TT I used with the Xperia X1. If TT has introduced code changes which are deep then perhaps this caused the crashes/reboots?
Have you tried redownloading TT7 from another source? Yes, many flavours of the version being used. Some with the extra BT files, but on last install (which has been working for 30mins now) I used the version with the BT files removed.
Have you tried a hard reset and then installing TT7? Yes, reflashed last night and then used TT without BT files.
Have you tried earlier versions of TT7 (ie 916 and the 917)? Yes last night before the reflashing I tried a few versions all with the same effect.

Just to add that it crashed again, so whilst I wait for some advice from the forum members I've stripped back the map folder to not include traffic.dat and speed cam folders, uninstalled and reinstalled to main memory.
It asked if I wanted to set home location etc so it looks like a "proper" clean install this time, will let it run and see how it goes.

GPS not working

Was about to post this in the forum of the rom i used but seems I can't reply there.
So I'm gonne ask here.
I just installed this rom ( [ROM] CM9 4.0.4 ICS HTC HD Mini [16.Jul.2012] )
* I installed the rom
* ran the rom and rebooted in recovery
* installed the update
* ran the rom and rebooted in recovery
* installed gapps
* ran the rom and rebooted
* installed the gps update
* rebooted and ran
But seems it google maps can't find my gps.
Can anyone tell me how i could fix this?
Yes in WM6.5 i could download the gps sattelits trought wifi
I see solutions to turn on/off the gps and reboot back in wm and should be fixed , but i have android nand install and gps dont work there
Just for sure, Have selected GPS in settings?
You may know what you have to do in Location service, there is GPS that isn't selected..
Eum i think gps is enabled since i had to choose if it was the internal sensor or not in the settings.
Just doesn't find my location with google maps
You think or you have chose?
And how about try what you have said: "Yes in WM6.5 i could download the gps sattelits trought wifi" so by wifi you did, but Have you tried GPS without wifi? and do that exactly in Android.

So you should do in Android also,
You go to Location service in Settings, and select the Google Wifi improve GPS Searcher (something like that written). :fingers-crossed:
Still not working, still can't find gps location, when you click on the gps icon in googlemaps says 'waiting for location' the icon is in the upper left corner but doesn't find location.
Well, if you selected the (Google's location service) in Settings, and still not work.. then I don't know what to say..
The only thing I may say.. try other ROMs...
Seems to work now with wifi on android
Anyone know this rom has root access?
How do you say?
Root access is ready on almost ROMs for HTC HD Mini!
see and look at Superuser...
Cause i wanne remove like the default ringtones and can't remove system files, normally with root access your able to remove those files?
