Hello,
Sorry if this has been answered, but I couldnt find anything when I searched.
I am trying to go back to stock on my Vibrant just like when I first got it out the box.
I flashed the unofficial update JI2 and then the JI6 through Odin, but now I want to go back to stock to see if I get the update from Tmobile or just do it through Kies.
In order for me to do this I have to go to stock and I cant find or know to to do it. I seem to be getting this whole Odin thing so if I can do it this way it would be great. Please let me know. Thanks.
I search Development section, but none of those worked for me. Not sure if Im doing something wrong.
I am no expert by any mean just a noobie but I downloaded the files on the link posted in I believe it was the Development section that was the JDF Odin stock rom etc. Look for it posted in there or search it and it will come up. I used Odin and it went smoothly and then I updated to ji6.I believe the link below is what you are looking for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Here is the link again for some reason it shows up when I save it but when I exit out and come back it is gone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Ok, so I did find this one, but I had no luck!
So did you click on the last one that says All 3 Files?
Or did you click them one by one?
you should try a custom rom before going back to stock!

Either way you want to do it. The 3 files-in-one is a smaller download if that matters to you. But they're all the same...
Also, in the Vibrant Bible, there's a link to Odin1.3 which worked well when I had to go from JI5 (via Kies) back to JFD for the Kies Mini update to JI6. Just fyi, I'm running Win7 Pro 64-bit, not sure what your setup is like.
When you say you had no luck, did you mean you couldn't get into download mode or Odin didn't work for you? For Odin to work you have to make sure the ID:COM in the upper left is populated with a number. Otherwise Odin is essentially saying that it doesn't see your phone, most likely due to driver issues.
Thanks for the help! I finally got it to work!

Why would you want the OTA if you already flashed it? Now you may run the risk of soft bricking after accepting the update... Maybe it's just past me at this early hour, but can't figure out why you wanna do this.
posting to save this thread to refer back to later
The reason I wanted to try Kies OTA is because of the missing Market apps and also because I was having lag problems with the flashed version.
Actually everything went smooth after I figured out how to do it.
Unfortunately there are still missing apps, But my phone runs alot smoother.

Heya, guys.
I'm Angelo. Nice to meet you all.
First of all, I want to say Congratulations to all the people who built this website up.
THere's my issue now:
I got a Samsung Galaxy S on the 22nd of December, so it's kinda new, already updated to Froyo 2.2 firmware version (factory) I9000XXJPP build RSJP5
Rooted with Z4Root and Lagfixed with Ryanza's OneClickLagFix v2.2, I also modified the schedule (I've set deadline with tweaks instead of the default cpq).
I'm not good at all with all those roms and kernels stuff, Odin... Doesn't sound "safe" for me, don't want to toss it after three weeks.
I tried to speed up my phone, it went from 952 to 1857, but I don't see any changes, only at the start when I boot the phone, it loads faster.
Could you guys help me with this stuff out? I'd like to avoid to flash my phone, just to point this out.
Thanks in advance, Angelo.

If you are rooted then you might as well download a ROM that can be flashed using Recovery Mode.
Download [ROM] [11.01.2011] Darky's v8.0 Gingerbread Edition ★ JPY ★
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
Make sure your download mode is working... ( search for 3 button fix )
Install CWM (search for this)
Flash ROM by copying the ROM to you internal sd and reboot to recovery...
Done
Oh thanks! And how does this work? What does this introduce on my phone?
Do I have to remove my lagfix? Explain please >_>

I recommend flashing any custom JPY rom, 2.2.1 is night and day compared to 2.2, very fast, also recommend using Hardcores Speedmod kernel as well, make sure to disable your lagfix,(oclf does not work in hardcores) and use the ext4 lagfix from Hardcores kernel...
All you really have to do is flash your rom of choice in recovery, then flash your kernel, in recovery as well, and then apply your lagfix.. check your rom of choices thread, most come with instructions on installing

If you check the threads for the ROMs you'll see very detailed install guides that the chefs have put together. You will probably need to use Odin for some steps so get the right drivers and read up on that (it's all here in the stickies or in General).
That's why it's always good to do lots of reading before posting
The best ROM available at the moment IMO, in terms of speed, customizability, and the best support community, it's Doc's Kichen.
Put together your ROM at www.romkitchen.org.
Check his thread for the instructions and if you need help. You won't be disappointed

Since you are running Froyo currently, you must first copy your desired ROM to your SD card, and then flash a kernel that has ClockWork build in (such as Voodoo or Hardcore). Then you can simply reboot into recovery (volume up + home + power) and install the ROM from the SD card. That's about all there is to it If you have problems you can use the "clean install method" of flashing back to Eclair with pit but this is rarely necessary.
Using Doc's ROM is really the way to go, you get great choices of launchers, kernels, themes, modems, so you can make it just how you want it without having to waste time changing/installing things afterwards.

Either way, the procedure is basically the same. We could go back and forth all day
With Doc's online kitchen you can have Voodoo 5.1 with his awesome sound work ready to go right out of the box (hmm that idiom doesn't really work with ROMs does it )

Sorry bud, but there is no way to flash a kernel without Odin unless you have clockwork already. Which you don't if you're on an official Froyo release that has 3e recovery (clockwork can't be used unless you change kernels with Odin).
Flashing with Odin is easy, go into download (volume down + home + power), plug into PC, open up Odin, press PDA, and browse to the .tar of your kernel (such as Voodoo or Hardcore) that you downloaded. Press start and watch the magic happen. This is covered in great detail in many threads, plz look around

ROM Manager is not recommended for most SGS ROMs. In addition, it is likely to cause problems with Froyo ROMs with 3e recovery that don't like unsigned zips.

But don't I need a .pit file to flash with Odin? I have that tar file but always thought that a .pit file is needed?
I have both the DK17 & DK28 with modem.tar and .pit. Is the .pit version specific, or can I simply use the .pit from there (and build the .tar using the modem.bin, of course)??
You don't neef a pit at all. The pit is for mapping. When flashing a full rom tar the mapping is built into the tar

But what if I am flashing modem ONLY? I want to downgrade my modem on my DK28 ROM, so all I want to do is to flash the DI18 modem.
In this case, don't I need the .pit file, since I am not flashing the full ROM?
By the way, I tried using the flashable in Clockwork, but like many others, it didn't work.
Thanks.

It seems to be working fine for many here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922428
Edit:
Back to my original questions:
1) Is there a DI18 Odin (modem.tar + .pit) flash?
-or-
2) Do I need the .pit file if I am flashing modem only?
3) If I do need .pit, can I take the DI18 modem.bin file and inserted into a DK17 or DK28 modem Odin package? (I tried this, but it didn't work, don't know why. Is there a different procedure for this?)
1) Take the modem from a di18 odin image. Just open the tarball with 7-zip or winrar.
2) No, but it doesn't hurt to use it anyway. And all the pits are basically the same, with some minor differences in partition sizes. The victory pit is the latest and works with all previous odin-able images.
3) There may be some signing or a checksum needed to create a package that odin will flash.
Question for the OP-
Why do you want to flash the di18 modem? The dk28 modem seems to work fine for everyone. Is there some difference or specific reason why you want that modem?
People are having random 4G/Wimax drops using DK28 modem (mine does this too). It has been speculated that the DI18 modem works better with 4G. I am also suffering the Status 7 error trying to update the modem with CMR 2.5.1, so 0din is the only way to go to get around the status 7 error.
I am also looking for the modem/pit file to use. Can someone detail how to do this with the full di18 rom to just flash modem only?
Thanks!
I have not done this so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you open the full DI18 tar file (with 7zip or winrar) you will see modem.bin as a file inside. Copy that out of the tar file into a folder or your desktop. Then in Odin, select "Phone" and select the modem.bin you just extracted.
victory_8G_100528.pit or s1_odin_20100512.pit should work for your pit file which probably came zipped with your odin download. If not do a search for one.
I was able to flash the DI18 modem file using the .BIN from the official full, and the .PIT from Odin (victory). Make sure you select "Phone" and I also deselected "F Reset Time".
Baseband version shows: D700.0.5S.DI18
Running stock DK28. Lets see if this 4g is faster now
EDIT: No service now... anybody have any ideas what could cause this?
I ended up reverting. Was not able to get 3g service, but strangely 4G was working fine.

See my link from post #10. It seems like DI18 solves some random data drop issues. For me, [I believe] the radio locks up randomly, causing the phone to reboot. I am just curious to try DI18 to see if it helps. Despite the notion that DI18 radios to not work with DK28 ROMs, there are a few people in that link that are using DI18 and loving it.

Rocking dj05 and jt's voodoo 5
It is my understanding that if you run the complete odin package it will overwrite even voodoo.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
i have killed my phone 3 times not disabling voodoo correctly when flashing roms. and each and every time adrynalyne's full di01 restore package has overwritten the whole thing for the win.
so if you are going back to bone stock, unrooted, full bloated eclair, (ie because you need to bring the phone back to verizon for warranty work) then that is your best bet. it will indeed wipe any and all voodoo whatnot from your phone.
Isn't it fine just to bring it back to stock DL09 Eclair, since that's the latest official OTA release? I don't see why you need to go back all the way to DI01 if you're planning on returning it. But I guess in the end of the day it won't really matter either way.
It doesn't really matter, all of the all in one vzw fascinate odins will work.
You technically don't _need_ to odin anything but the modem though.
For me, there was no lagfix and I had a working cwr/rom manager, so I did it in three quick steps.
1. Nandroid restore my DL09 setup.
2. Odin DL09 modem over EB01.
3. install a DL09 kernel from clockwork recovery and wipe the cache.
I was exactly where I was before with no headache.
Nandroid doesn't flash modem nor kernel.
However the all in ones may be faster if you are building from scratch (and absolutely the fastest route to stock). You should pick an all in one with the modem and kernel you want or you will have to do steps 2 & 3 either way.

In order to make a backup, you need to be rooted, in order to root you need to have an update.zip file on your phone in order for the file to work you need to be on 2.1 firmware, you can probably find the file stickied in the development section, or q/a section.

Odin is the ticket. It doesn't do a backup - it restores your phone to it's fresh out of the box state. There are 2 files you need, but they're easy to find.
But blaqr0d is going to be right - once you start flashing you will only want to go back to stock if you encounter a problem.
Here's a vid I think is very helpful.
