Alright....so I messed up trying to install the GB ROM. Here's my problem:
The only thing I have access to at the moment is stock recovery. I am perfectly content with going back to stock and re-rooting, etc., if that's the only option. My most urgent concern is getting operational at this point. Do any signed ROMs exist that I can flash from stock recovery, even a stock D2 ROM? I have searched for two hours and can find nothing.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Edited for more info: I was originally running Liberty. Downloaded the GB ROM to my phone, but the download apparently didn't go through all the way. The ~240MB file was only around 100MB, but I didn't realize this until after I wiped everything to prepare for the new ROM. I thought, worst case scenario, I can get back to Clockwork and do a recovery image. But now I can't even get to CWR. When I try to boot, all I get is "LIBERTY" splash screen, and no booting
SBF to stock 2.2, reroot, redownload GB, flash, all fixed up
I don't believe there are any ROMs that can be flashed through the stock recovery because they must have a certain signature
Alright...so I figured it out. But now my battery is dead, and I can't figure out how to charge it enough to SBF. It doesn't appear to be charging on the splash screen (no LED), and USB charges until it goes to splash. NO LED when off
Edited to add: Right now i have it sitting on the splash screen (Liberty) with no charge LED, hoping that it's charging and doesn't want to tell me. Is there a better way?
Hmmm hard to tell. Usually in cases where the battery won't chargr, you'll have to find either someone who has a d1 or d2 and borrow their battery, or find an external phone charger

Boot into recovery and load one of your backups. If you don't have backups, then you just learned why you need them. Of course, there are people who have uploaded nandroid backups to this site and others, find one of them, move it to your sdcard, boot into recovery, and install it.
If all this fails, then just .sbf. It doesn't take forever, and you can make a nice clean stock 2.2 backup after you root and then upgrade.
What OS are you running? Have you tried to SBF your phone back to factory?
Im guessing its 2.2 only

Yeah i got it back by doing spf. And then reloaded a backup, but i could never get into clockwork, what do u do yo get into clockwork because the only recovery i was able to get into was the recovery that comes with the phone, just would like to know.

The same thing happened to me trying to update using the update.zip. Installs everything normally but when it comes to booting it simply stops at the motorola logo, then if you reboot it several times taking the battery out it boots into the system.
Doesn't sound like your rooted? Have to be rooted to use Clockwork.
If you are rooted might try reinstalling the Bootstrap Recovery.
Would definitely suggest doing an SBF on the phone. The guides here are a little unorganized, so I wrote up a nice one below. Includes everything including the SBF file needed for flashing.

Need help! My phone was rooted using the Easy Root process, all was peachy until I decided to try the latest leak of 2.2. Didn't work, got stuck at the M logo and could only get the bootloader screen up. I thought it was bricked but after searching high and low through the blogosphere got to this post. Now I've done the sbf as suggested, but when I try to do the Easy Root again, nothing happens. Any suggestions? I would like to root again so I can access the backup from my sd card and get my phone back to where I had it b/f. HELP!
My phone isn't working. My DROID 2 is running the stock ROM, and it's not doing anything. I can't get it into recovery, I've tried the PC recovery, it didn't work, because the "Droid 2 2.3.2 SBF.zip" file is corrupted. I boot it up, it goes through the boot animation, but when it boots up, nothing happens. The screen is black. I'm pretty sure everything is running under it, and the haptic feedback from both the lockscreen buttons and and soft buttons work. I'm at wits end, nothing it working at all. Help. Please, help. I use my phone all the time, I just got it 2 weeks ago, however it was a Certified Pre Owned device from Verizon. One little thing, I changed my SD card from the one I had in it before, and it booted up like normal, then after about 20 seconds, it goes to the black screen. I'm about ready to call Verizon and get them to send me a new one.
If it says the zip is corrupted, you might try re downloading the SBF file and trying it over again.

I tried downloading it several times. None of them worked. I can't open the zip to get the .sbf.
your back light prob died
You probably removed Backup Assistant. Do as the earlier poster said and re download the SBF its a lot easier than trying to get Backup assistant back on your phone.
And to the earlier poster he wouldn't see the phone boot up if the back light was dead.
Where are you downloading the SBF from? Try downloading it form here:
hxxp://bit.ly/dir7fq (replace xx with tt)
what I did was somehow get Clockwork Recovery loaded. I promptly wiped it clean, and requested a new one from Verizon. I got it, and rooted it and such. Now I'm running Fission 2.5.7 with an FM Radio. It's epic!
You must have had a bad sbf file. If i were sending it back i would have used the sbf method rather than having them boot recovery to see clockwork there. Hope they don't bill you for that one...ouch...

Actually, the recovery is the default Android recovery. Clockwork was temporarily put in there, so it's not anymore. The reason I couldn't fix it was because I couldn't boot back into Clockwork. When they look, they'll find nothing
Can you put [SOLVED] in your thread title? Thanks!
I flashed my Defy with froyo, then installed CM7, i charged it to 20% battery and turned it on. All worked fine for a couple of minutes, but afterwards it started restarting every 30 secs, So i tried flashing it again with the Chinese froyo (I'm from Israel, if it matters), but without charging the battery back to full, Which means I started flashing with about 15% battery.
I finished flashing rsdlite wrote "pass" and everything but the defy wouldn't power up, it just shows white led whenever i plug it to my PC. rsdlite recognized it in the first couple of hours and i tried flashing froyo again and again, but after a while even rsdlite didn't recognize it anymore.
I read a thread here that said that the phone doesn't charge in boot mode, and i thought that might be the problem, so i took out the battery and charged it at a phone store for about 15 minutes, then tried to turn it on but still no powering up. So now I have a defy that doesn't power up and isn't even recognized by rsdlite.
I'm hopeless, I loved my defy very much, and I really need an clue.
I'll do anything!
Thanks for reading this far, I hope you can help me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892026 maybe this will help
Tried it, didn't work, I also tried to charge the battery already so I think its not just a dead battery problem, its probably more than that.
Hi there and welcome to the forums. You didn't mentioned which was the base OS you've had on your Defy before installing CM7, but I'll assume you have had a Froyo version, maybe the stock one (please provide more details).
If you flashed nordic SBF before installing CM7 or if you had official Froyo on your phone then you won't be able to Flash the leaked Chinese Froyo. It has some partitions with version code -2- like Eclair, whereas the nordic ROM has the code -4- and therefore it's not possible to directly downgrade by applying the Chinese SBF.
To revive your Defy you must charge your battery (at least 50% to be sure it will have enough juice and will last the whole process), then start it in stock recovery (Vold Down+ Power and then by pressing both volume buttons when the android with exclamation mark appears) and wipe data+cache. After this step you can start your phone in bootloader mode (Vol Up + Power) and flash again the initial ROM you had right before installing CM7.
you are from israel right?
why you choose chinese froyo for god sake?
some chinese froyo sbf is intended only for different DEFY (ME525) / Chinese Defy, and normal Defy is MB525.
it could damage your flashlight and phone.
use sbf from central europe froyo for best result installing CM7.
thanks guys, I charged the battery, got rsdlite to recognize the phone, and flashed a UK sbf, now its back on, working, and showing that motoblur animation.
I guess now all that's left is to install a 2.1 OS and everything should work.
(Please correct if I got this wrong, since I AM a noob and i really don't want to make another mistake)
THANKS ALOT!
If you flashed a full Froyo SBF then you cannot install Eclair SBF. It's not possible to directly downgrade after you have flashed Froyo using a full SBF. However you can easily flash a Froyo official ROM or... why not CM7 or MIUI.
Thing is... I already flashed 2.1, and got it to the point where it shows me the M logo. but it didn't go any further than that. i tried flashing a 2.3.3 ROM, same thing happens, M logo but nothing more. right now im back to this version of 2.2:
p3_jordan_umts_jordan-user-2.2.1-3.4.2-107_JDN-4-000000-release-keys-signed-T-Mobile-US.sbf
and I'm getting an animation of Motoblur with nothing else.
flaah nordic sbf then go to cm7. Follow the guide read first cm7 faq before proceeding

All you do is flashing.. Have you actually do total wipe in recovery? Since you're having the motoblur animation splash screen, it is obviously your previous data is conflicting while the phone is trying to boot normally..

I believe you are right about wiping, I've bricked my phone to the point i couldn't turn the phone on. So all you usually have to do is flash the full sbf, when it tries to boot it gets stuck on the m logo, just pull the battery, power it up holding volume down wait for the the triangle and press the middle of the volume rocker and it will take you to the stock recovery. Wipe and factory rest, flash the sbf again.
wipe/factory reset didn't fix it, though I noticed nordic sbf got it to show the android animation.
is it possible that I need to install a rom after I flash an sbf? and if so, how can I install a rom (custom recovery doesn't give me an option to install a zip, only "update.zip").
do I install some sort of 2ndinit?
do I install a rom through "update.zip"?
sorry once again for another (hopefully last ) noobish questions.
The SBF is a full ROM so atfer flashing a SBF there is no need to put another ROM via recovery, unless you want to do so (let's say you'd like to install CM7 or MIUI). If you haven't flashed a 2.3.4 full SBF you should be able to revive your Defy using the nordic SBF. Try to download it again or try a different one (one of those official SBF's released this summer).
I did install a 2.3.4 full sbf, but it too didnt work, tried a factory reset + cache wipe, and reflashing the 2.3.4 and it's still stuck on the M logo
Ive done something stupidly wrong.. Help me please..
Ok Ive a me525 and I tried to flash my phone with JRDNEM_U3_2.51.0_CHN_P3_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA030.0R_USAJORDANRTINT_P029_A018_HWp3_Service1FF
Was not sure what I was doing at that moment(just following a guide/tutorial on YouTube)After the whole progress with RSD lite, my device turned black as the title says with only showing a white led light. Was getting pretty deperate thinking about I had broken the phone.. :crying:
I have searched for a solution on the forums saw some people did get their device repeared, but everything they had done didnt worked for me..
So please help this boy in need.. We dont have lots of money to spare so buying a new phone isnt really a fast option..
p.s. Not sure though but would a chinese sbf work and where would I find one?
Okay, I've searched and searched and no one seems to have the specific problem that I'm having with my phone, so I'm taking to the forums myself. I've been rooting since the G1, I know how to adb push things, I have used google and multiple forums to try to fix this problem. So here goes, anyone that can help I thank you in advance.
1-My phone, like some other MT4G users, reboots itself each time it's plugged in. Initially I thought this was because I was using a Kindle cord to plug it into the pc, so I bought an MT4G usb cable from tmobile, and still it boot loops (just the first white screen for maybe 4 seconds, then black then again and again). The only way to charge it is to let it start boot looping, take the battery out, turn it on, and if I'm lucky enough that it begins to boot up correctly I plug it in mid boot. If I wait til it's fulled loaded it just starts rebooting again.
2-It will not at all from any angle go into Recovery mode. If I try to go to recovery from Rom Manager, or from the screen you get when holding power and lower volume key or by flashing a rom through Rom Manager, it just boot loops just like mentioned above, until I pull the battery for a while (it is currently sitting next to me with the battery out) and then put it back in.
3-If by chance it's on, and plugged into the computer, it is not at all recognized. Ever. While it's booting up my computer finds something, but doesn't know what it is, and doesn't allow me to view any folders on the SD card. Yes I've installed the HTC drivers file. I've adb'ed things to this phone before, now it says device not found. I don't know when it stopped being recognized...
4-I've even tried to fastboot something over to it, but to no avail, still not found.
If I try to do a factory reset, it boot loops. If I sneeze it boot loops.... I don't know what to do, and if I trade it in under warranty, I have to reset it to stock rom, or they're going to charge me for a new phone. Any ideas!?
I have Cyanogen mod 7 on here.
have you tried a fastboot wipe? or have you tried to reboot to recovery from adb?
First, I don't trust using the actual ROM Manager app to do the flashing/installing.
Since you've been flashing since the G1 days why not use Clockwork Recovery? Just go into recovery and do the necessary wipes.
So I suggest to do a complete full wipe in Clockwork, meaning wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache. Install the newest CM nightly (Which is working wonderfully BTW) and see if your problems still persists.
Edit: I didn't realize you tried to enter recovery, oops. But yeah try what the buy above me said. Try re-installing the latest CWM recovery, if that still fails then try heading into there via ADB.

I second that, flashing ROMs from ROM Manager a terrible idea.
Well...if all else fails and if you are really thinking about returning it and still under warranty...few seconds in the microwave method should work just fine. They wont be able to see that its rooted if the phone wouldn't turn on, would they???
glimmer of hope...
So by the grace of god I did get it flashed back to unrooted, stock 2.2 by putting it as pd15img.zip on my sd card and going into bootloader. Once that was done I thought I would be out of the woods... I even plugged it in last night and no boot loop!! but this morning I unpllugged it (and I'm using a tmobile cable for the phone attached to my pc) and here it sits, next to me again with the battery out of it because everytime I try to turn it on (for over 40 minutes now) it boot loops to that stupid white screen (that is honestly driving me insane at this point). I know that it isn't rooted (because I dl'ed rom manager and it won't let me do anything without being rooted) so do we think that I'm safe to go to the store today to request a new one be sent? Thoughts? And thanks for the help thus far!
yeah I would send that back
Bad emmc chip? I'm sorry man, that's a terrible story.

I'm not sure where to start, so if there's anything i left out, I'll be glad to clarify.
phone: Motorola Bravo MB520
stock: 2.2.1
current: CM7 V5
i made the mistake of pulling the battery during a clockwork restore from CM7 for Bravo to a rooted stock nandroid, then the battery died before completion, corrupting the flash.
i hotwired the phone, and flashed the above linked 2.2.1 SBF and did a factory reset, all caches wiped and the phone is alive!... kind of.
from this point on, the phone will start up while hotwired, but I get an error that the battery is not recognized as a genuine Motorola battery (it is), and there is a question mark in the battery indicator in status bar and in the charging startup screen (phone off, plug into wall, moto logo, battery charge image).
"/sys/class/power_supply/battery/uevent" reads:
POWER_SUPPLY_NAME=battery
POWER_SUPPLY_TYPE=Battery
POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS=Unknown
POWER_SUPPLY_HEALTH=Good
POWER_SUPPLY_PRESENT=0
POWER_SUPPLY_TECHNOLOGY=Li-ion
POWER_SUPPLY_CAPACITY=100
POWER_SUPPLY_VOLTAGE_NOW=3753000
POWER_SUPPLY_TEMP=340
POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_FULL_DESIGN=0
POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_COUNTER=100
I bought a new battery, same issue.
I baleted the contents of "/data/battd/" and "/data/system/batterystats.bin" with no change.
The battery is seated properly, with no corrosion on terminals.
Is there anything more than can be done?
Just for sh**'s and giggles did you try to do another flash with the 2.2.1 sbf? Might help. Or just try flashing the CM7 rom, turn it on and just play around a little then flash back to 2.2.1. Post an up date please! Others might do this too.

i've flashed the 2.2.1 SBF 2-3 times now. after encountered this, that was my first thought, having been unable to get RSDLite to give me a success response. the only CM ROM's available are ports of the Moto Defy. This one just has the working cameras. Stock factory reset gives same error as does another CM port by rdanner/josuearisty as well as bandroidx's ROM.
