I've reset my phone twice now. I've installed the new ROM from Adrynalyne 3.30.11.
I was hoping to get the feeds to work after the install.
Here's what's going on:
-I subscribe to Preloaded RSS feeds or User added RSS feeds without incident.
-Shows as "successfully subscribed"
-Result: NO FEEDS COME IN
-I unsubscribe and sometimes I get an error, "Server problem, Try agian" but not all the time.
-I'll try again to unsubscribe and it works.
So I start all over and I select to subscribe, "successfully subscribed" but I get no feeds.
WHAT'S GOING ON??? AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
I do receive notifications of email, twitter, facebook, incoming/missed calls, and text messages. I just don't see any RSS feeds working even though I've subscribed to them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sync stays on? Not sure what sync you're talking about.
I'm running "Open Advanced Task Killer". What process do I need to look for to see if I've killed RSS feeds?
I've turned off my Open Advanced Task Killer and I've subscribed to a Preloaded feed as well as a User feed (XDA-developers and Android Central).
Still nothing.
I've got a process called, " RssProvider" running but it maybe from using GoodNews. But until today, I didn't have GoodNews installed.
Thoughts?
Check your Settings>Accounts & Sync>Background data is checked.
Check Settings>Ticker settings>RSS feeds and ensure you have them loaded and check that in Ticker settings all of the other options are turned on in each desired category.
Last, check that your Ticker Sleep Time in Ticker settings isnt set for when you dont want it to be.
Hope that helps!
I believe that this is also handled by the SNS apk that Samsung provided, and on the Fascinate, the SNS services are less than reliable.
Funny story:
Just went into verizon the other day to complain about this. I've reset my phone to stock about 10 times in 3 months to keep my ticker working. When I went in, of course, it was working. Check my phone today just out of curiosity... totally gone again. FML.
I don't know why so many people are having problems with their ticker not working. Mine always has
My ticker displays out of date Facebook notifications when I get a new notification.

Yes I'm grave digging but I stumbled upon this thread after recently suffering from a similar issue.
I have confirmed that Z7.apk, SnsProvider.apk, RssProvider.apk and DrmUA.apk are all needed to receive Preloaded RSS feeds. Browser.apk is also needed to read these RSS feeds. Otherwise, when you click on "Read the full story...", RssProvider will force close.

I use Advanced Task Manager to 'turn off' Peep and Stocks, but they keep coming back, and I know they kill the battery. I've tried to remove them from my phone - I hate Twitter and am too poor to play the markets - but it isn't allowed, it seems. Any suggestions?
Thank you, in advance.
Peep set to manual update and not a scheduled one will not do anything to your battery. Same goes for Stocks.
Just make sure you open each app and set Manual updates.
I did this ages ago with v1 of the firmware. My battery usage decreased and my slow downs went away.
Don't worry about it.
IF you've rooted your Hero, you can remove peep, stocks and other 'un-removable' apps by following Paul's posting on Modaco.com:

Thank you! I have done this with Stocks (the default seems to be to auto update every hour, for some reason) but Peep doesn't seem editable unless you log into it, and I don't have a Twitter account. Might it check for updates if I have never logged on, and is there a way of setting it for manual updates without an account?
Thanks again for your reply.
Well, even though I am using Advanced Task Manager to close down both Peep and Stocks, they keep coming back! They're like Zombie Apps!!
Any idea as to how to make them properly go away? I'm getting fed up with opening ATM every few hours to shut 'em down...
Also, 'Auto Update' keep unchecking itself in Google Data Sync. Is this usual?
Many thanks
if you don't use them, just remove them from your phone.

TBH, as long as Stocks is set to never update and you are not logged into Twitter via the Social Networks section of Settings, why worry ?

Because peep with default settings is far from idle. I've not managed to get the battery to last longer than 6-8 hours with the phone idle and wifi&gps off. Once peep is fed with account credentials you can turn refresh and notifications off, but that's impossible without an account. The clear message to HTC is to either fix peep so that it remains fully idle when it doesn't have the information it needs to do its job, or isolate it as a separate package that can be removed separately without rooting the phone.
My battery will last more than a day and O am not a light user...
Why not sign up for a Twitter account, log in to Peep, kill the auto update (set to manual), log out of Peep (in Settings) and then ignore your Twitter account.
Its free.
See if that helps before the pain of rooting and removing apps.
Worth a try.

I hope HTC's developers not not share your attitude.
It's not about the cost. It's about the failure to meet one of the most basic requirements in programming. An application which hasn't been configured for use should not use any system resources other than possibly storage.
Why on earth should someone with no interest whatsoever in twitter have to sign up for an account just to be able to turn the damn thing off?
Woah... I am just trying to help out here and suggest ways of sorting your 'issues'
I used my girlfriend's twitter address to log on and then turned automatic updates off, before logging out. And... still it returns!
It will return point is is that it won't use resources.
Just don't worry about it. Seriously, all this fretting over background processes and task killers, no need to.
Kinda hard not to worry about it when it's using 9mb of precious RAM. :/
Even after turning manual updates on, still can't kill it.
i cant believe thatit doesn't auto update an add a little notice anywhere is it just me or is this £495 phone not pulling its weight, starting to think about selling this and getting an iPhone or going back to my 8900 have I set everything up correctly? why use is it if it doesn't notify you of anything
sigh......
It might just be me but that seems to be quite a vague statement...what doesn't it update that's upsetting you? I found this:
http://www.montecristoff.com/hd2tweak.htm
earlier today and its got a nice feature which will automatically update any apps that you've installed...how cool is that? (I do hate calling progs "apps"...its so apple dont you think?)
Wel on some hand I can agree .. But did you know you can tusrm notifications on and off, quite easy actually.
In sence env go to SETTINGS > Display Notifications sounds.
And there you should find it.
And sorry for the name of the menu. I got the dutch version over here.
And please explain more about the auto update. What exactly is it that you want to "autoupdate"
regards

why update automatically and update everything,,, instead of what you want to update
Martyn,
Can you come back with a more concise statement of what your problems are please? If its what I think it is there are tons of threads on here about that AND solutions which you can easily search for.
However let's start at the beginning and get our heads round what your problems are.
Cheers
WB
i just want things like facebook and twitter to update automaticly without me having to get an email first...
on my bb 8900 i would have an icon at the top stating facebook 1,2,3 etc
this phone seems to only notify me of sms, email? no app like facebook or twitter interaction at all??? and my facebook is ment to update every 2 hours, (cant seem to change this )
Your signature bemoans the price the HD2 cost you - but you dislike it because it's default settings limit data connection use, persumably to cut costs?
To your issue, I don't know what facebook app was running on your blackberry but if it's that important to you why not add an rss feed with your facebook updates or open a gmail account that's mailed whenever something happens on facebook and setting it as an exchange "push mail" account?
And that's before the obvious suggestion of googling for an appropriate application O_O
I hope I'm not too reproachful. My point is that Windows Mobile is more like a desktop os than it is like whatever blackberry uses or osX mobile. Solving your "issues" shouldn't take more than half an hour's browsing in the HD2 Themes and Applications forum.
you don't have the twitter tab? and the intergrated facebook? not that its working in all aspects but still I like it..! The standalone facebook application works. The phone also notifies me for twitter and facebook messages..
go to settings in htc sense then choose the data option (says set up sync schdules or similar under the heading) then click on facebook or twitter and set up sync settings to automatic.
they will both now update at the intervals you set.
twitter is available in sense via it's tab and facebook inegrates itself with your contacts in the people tab in sense by pairing your contacts on your device with the contacts of matching names from your facebook. names have to be the same to auto integrate otherwise you have to manually select which contacts to add to which facebook friend.
hope this helps a bit
All the above, plus make sure you don't use any form of 'Auto-disconnect' program to turn your data connection off, or all 'pushed' updates like FB and Twitter will fail till the next time a polled update occurs.

I don't use that- have you got any settings for data disconnect active? If so, it might be worth disabling any auto-disconnect
As far as I know Twitter and FB do not notify you of anything?!
Only emails, SMS, Missed Calls, etc... get a notification.

Twitter has notifications. Facebook does not, unless you install the facebook instant messenger application from this site.
where is that app?

The fix for me was from "Weudel" at androidforums:
"From your home screen hit menu> settings> accounts & sync hit add account and add your Facebook account there. That should do it."
Maybe this can help you.
the only thing I noticed was that it completely deletes your settings when you first do the update. Once I set it back up I haven't had any issues.
Thanks...got facebook working again but still nothing from the built-in RSS feeds...espn, fox, npr, cnn, health...selected and unselected between restarts and still nothing...have a quite time setup as 11 pm to 6 am where I don't get any feed updates

same issue after the update. just test messages going to ticker. no rss or sms going to ticker
Having the same issue here. Its hit or miss for twitter and Facebook. Get nothing, then get a burst of tweets and Facebook comments. As for RSS, nothing.

I can't even get the pre-loaded feeds to work.
I called verizon yesterday and talked to a friendly voice and she didn't even have a continuum to walk me through troubleshooting the problem.
By all accounts, it should be working.
Her final solution was to reset the phone to factory settings. Not what I'm really ready to do just yet.

Email and Facebook comes in on Ticker but can't subscribe to RSS feeds or cancel RSS feeds and if I've subscribed to a feed PRE or USER added, I don't get anything.
Canceling or subscribing to feeds give error, "Server problem, try again".
Also, I don't get any Twitter notices.
Going to remove account (twitter) and reestablish account to see if I can get Twitter working again.
Totally stuck on the RSS feeds issue. Any help would be appreciated.
Note: Have reset phone and it worked for couple days, then nothing.
Is there any way to clear user added RSS feeds? I messed up typing in an Address, and now every time it tries to sync I get RSS error on that particular feed.

Its all in the tickers settings, i made the same mistake too so i just deleted it
My Facebook and Twitter SNS feeds have suddenly stopped working. When I go to Setting > Accounts & sync and click on my Facebook or Twitter account under 'Manage account' the SNS Service is unclicked. When I try to click them to reactivate it, it fails giving me an error saying, "Activation failed, tap to reactivate." I discovered this problem because I received a notification from both Facebook and Twitter in my Notification Pane at the top of the screen saying, "Facebook/Twitter registration error. Register manually."
These feeds were working wonderfully before last night. I was receiving updates via the ticker every half hour or so. Has this happened to anyone lately? It started for me last night sometime.
For troubleshooting purposes, I have done nothing to my phone lately. I have not installed apps or messed with any settings. All I have done is used my phone for normal things like making/receiving calls and sending/receiving text messages along with accessing my Facebook/Twitter via the app installed on my phone. My phone is completely stock and is not rooted. I updated to DL17 around 1 week ago. Again, the problem did not rear its head until last night.

I didn't place my post under that thread because I'm not having RSS feed issues. I'm having SNS feed issues.
As a follow up to my original post, today I did a factory reset on the phone and am still receiving the same errors for my SNS feeds as listed above. One observation I have made however is that while I'm trying to active my SNS feeds via Setting > Accounts & sync, I will receive Facebook/Twitter ticker updates. However, I do not receive updates via the ticker once the attempted activation of my SNS feeds has failed.
To me this sounds like a Samsung software bug. I called Verizon yesterday and they had no record of this problem reported elsewhere. They advised me to notify Samsung via their device forums.
The SNS feeds started magically working again after about a week. Here is a list of things I attempted to correct the problem:
1. Delete all my SNS accounts and recreate them.
2. Active and deactivate my SNS accounts countless times.
3. Turn off the ticker sleep function.
I'm not sure which one fixed the problem but my guess is the ticker sleep function. I saw at one point my ticker sleep function was continuing past the time I had set which was really odd. Keep in mind too that the problem did not correct itself immediately after any of my attempts. After doing all the listed above it just started working days later.
Maybe this will be of some use to someone experiencing the same problem.
Anyone else having issues with the email app? Mine seems to just keep spinning when trying to download new emails so I have to keep killing it and relaunching it to get new emails. Sometimes even after I see the list of messages, if I click on one to read it just churns like its trying to d/l message. I have to kill and relaunch again. Irritating as you can imagine.
I'm on yahoo and believe I'm on the latest release. I'm not on any fancy from, just the stock + updates. Yes. I'm the original owner.
Just looking for guidance here. Seemed to be fine until the last few months. I thought it might have been the widget so I removed that and just check email from the app itself. No go. I really kinda miss the nice widget UI that tells me how messages in queue but will just take a consistently working email app I don't have to re-launch every time I want to check email.
Thanks in advance for any help.
